Feel free to check out gedeROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25312180#post25312180!
Brightness is fully working, and mounting too Plus, you get to hide/show your status-bar!
gedeROM runs on the CPU-governor OndemandX as default, giving you great batterylife.

My favourite at the moment is:
Hashcodes latest ROM (Not just the Kernel):

Here are the GApps needed for it:
GApps: http://goo.im/gapps (4/29 is the latest in the CM9 row)

04-28: KERNEL.ZIP #8 IS NOW READY HERE (FLASH IN RECOVERY): http://bit.ly/Iz9J4s
md5sum d80dae28760cd1c8590d71bf53573ba2
- Kernel now has the 1.2ghz setting added again, but is default to 1.0ghz. To enable the higher clock speed, go into Settings -> Performance -> Processor and change "Maximum CPU frequency" to 1200. Then select "Set on boot".
- Added bluetooth USB support modules to the kernel for OTG testing
- Fixed early backlight bug. All of the bootanimation should now be visible.

Its the same as the kernel zip Hashcode released but he complied the whole ROM also, just handier. Screen brightness works tough and USB on Hashcodes one.

Sounds good. Thanks.

On Hashcodes 28/04 ROM I linked to above you must go to Settings > Storage > Press the menu button in the top right and select USB Mass Storage and then the USB connection to the PC will work.

My Vote
My vote out of the ones listed here would be for GedeROM 1.2. I have tried all of the ones listed here (except for Hashcode's which I can no longer find in the Dev Forum) and Gedemis's seems to be the smoothest, at least on my KF. I don't think you can go wrong though with any ROM that uses Hashcode's fantastic 3.0 Kernel.
Hope that helps Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
William

Thank you guys. Now will try GedeROM 1.2

Installed gedeRom 1.2
There is no sound on keyboard click. but battery life is awesome

The best way I can put this is GEDE rom is amazing. I just bought the Fire a few days ago with the refurbish sale, and rooted it within 15 minutes of opening the box. I already own the transformer prime + dock, and sadly I haven't picked it up since I got the fire. Gede rom is as close to perfect I have come across all the roms so far. It does everything my prime can do. Only downside (a plus is my eyes) are no key sounds. I hate them anyway.
The fire just feels soooooo much better in the hand than the prime. I thought the 7 inch screen size might be a limiting factor, but I don't really mind it. 7 inches vs 10 inches of screen space is negligible depending on how close you hold it to your face anyway. I've actually been on the fence about putting my prime up on ebay. I honestly don't see the benefits for 500 dollars over the fire outside of more memory. I have tons of apps, emulators, movies and music on my fire, and still have space to spare. Don't think I have a problem with only 5gb of space if you know how to format your media correctly.

I have tried Hashcode's, lithium76 AOKP ROM, Reloaded and GedeROM.
I have stuck with GedeROM.
I have not tried Energy ROM yet though.

The modaco rom works well if you like stock

Its there now Time to flash when I get home.

another vote for gedeROM however it is the first ICS rom I have used coming from CM7 but I dont see any reason to switch. Transition was super smooth also, just backed everything up with titanium, flashed ICS, restored the apps without a hitch

GedeROM all the way.
I was on Hash's ROM for a while, then thought I'd try gedemis' ROM, and it AWESOME. Smooth, quick, and very few noticeable errors. No offense to any of them, but I do find it funny some people are saying the keyboard makes no sound. What, your magical fingers don't make a sound when they tap on glass? I personally think it's a trivial bug, but there are some out there who might NEED it for whatever reason, so it's understandable.

[Q] Best choice for custom ROM

Hi friends.
First, I want to praise this forum ... that is fantastic!
My question is about the currently ROMs for my milestone 2...
I want to flash my ML2 with another ROM, to get a better experience with the battery life...
What ROM is the better choice?
- Argen2Stone 2.7
- CM7
- TIM Retail 2.3.6
- MIUI 2
- Others.... ?
Thanks again guys!
I test all these roms, personally I prefer CM7 of Tezet + the update of Endless7
Lose the video recording at 720p, but it works great.!!
It depend on your version of MS2. I have problems with gps in cyanogen's rom, so i'am using ms2ginger 2.1. It's perfect, everything's working, but it have shorter battery life. My friend have older revision of MS2, he had serious problems with keyboard and multitouch, but Endless7 cm7 runs perfectly on his phone.

YES!
+1 for that rom .
It's pity, there's no Endless7's update for latest Tezet's CM7
Guys, I tried flash my phone with CM7 times ago....
I first flash the SO with "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE-signed.zip"
After this I apply "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"
All using Bootmenu.
But, the phone doesn't boot... the screen stay black and nothing happends....
After this, I recovery to 2.2 TIM RETAIL...
Can you post a link with a better tutorial for me?
Thanks!

May sound stupid, but allthough the milestone 2 and droid to appear to be the same phone, they are not the same phone.
Main difference is one is cdma (no sim - droid 2) and other is gsm (has a simcard - milestone2)
No method will ever get a droid 2 rom working on your milestone 2.
EDIT:
(moved to start of rant) If you have upgraded to the official gingerbread you can only use CM9, CM7(endless7), argen2stone. Just the ones with the GB kernel.
But as for other roms all roms, the choices are:
CM9: Not finished but quite stable now and a great look into ICS certainly work having a try of it. Uses GB kernel so no multitouch bug.
CM7 (tezet version): Stable, good, fast, has multitouch bug due to froyo kernel
CM7 (endless7 version/defy port): Not much difference from tezet version, but some added bells and whistles. Also uses the CH gingerbread kernel, so no multitouch bug and better touch response. I'd recommend this version personally, but it's all a matter of opinion. Also both versions show all market apps regardless of compatibility - can be handy if you wanna take advantage of a great sale knowing you can just use it when it is patched for your device or you upgrade. Or if you can tweak some stuff enough to trick it into working.
MIUI: Simply wonderful. Most stable one i have used. At first i hated the iphone likeness of it - but you can install a custom launcher if you wish. I got used to it though and ended up loving it once I tuned it to how i liked it - 1 screen with several folders and a clock widget the themes are great. It also uses the froyo kernel, so unfortunately has the multitouch bug. So i had to leave it
Argen2Stone: Pretty close to stock so if you liked the stock firmware but not it's slowness you will probably like this. Simply wasn't for me but for the time i used it, it was quite stable. Uses the CH gingerbread kernel though, so no multi touch bug here too . OH and is one of the few that has 720p video recording working I think.
I can't really remember ms2ginger and i have never tried blurless, so I won't comment on them.
Moral of the story, you can count the amount of roms we have available on you hand so why not get them all, and try them 1 day at a time?
They are all great roms and far better than stock was, so you can't really go wrong. No one here can possibly tell you what you like so you will just have to test them yourself soon enough and find out

+1 me too great works of tezet and endless7
ive used Argen2Stone 2.7 ..its a really good rom.
now im using CM9 by tezet.
My vote goes for tezet's CM7, because I like more that clean CM7 than endless' mod.
i think CM7 of Tezet is the best.
I'm voting for MIUI - but I understand if someone don't like it due to it's quite bad touch responsiveness.
I want to shar my experience with you. I used all the rom you listed except "tim retail 2.3.6".
I'm now using A2S and UK 2.3.4 kernel. It has the perfect experience whatever daily use or game playing. But it has the shorter battery life(the same as cm7 or may be a little longer).
I often got reboot when i using cm7 especially when i entering games.
MIUI has the different style from other android roms. It also based on cm kernel, if you are boring with the original android UI ,you may try this rom. But this rom has the shortest battery life even less than CM7, and has the slow reflex when you have incall.
Sorry for my terrible English.
Sent from my A953 using XDA App
CM7 for me.. even if it doesn't have 720p recording it is battery friendly.. i like argen2stone but the only thing i dont like on this rom is blur UI.. they should have remove the UI because it eats too much ram >.<

[Q] Stock rom with latest patches?

Hey guys I'm pretty new to android roms etc etc I have a 512 mb gen 2 european blade that much i found out but i wanted to know whether there was a complete stockish rom with the latest kernel patches? I am running GSF now and it is fast and stuff but i would really like it to go faster with the latest kernels as it was updated quite some time back so i imagine it wont have the latest patches... any ROM without any cm7 mods and all just plain and simple stripped and modded stock with latest kernel mods like gpu axi uv etc ?

U know the answer cm with tons of performance boosts and options
to be honest if you want your phone to go faster i would go with cyanogen mod 7 latest kang + wbaws kernel with GPU overclock
So the stock based ROMS arent the ones with the best performance..?okay and by latest kang which should i try?(i really dont want to overclock and things like that as it may damage the phone no?)
Err.. Cyanogen?
In my experience, cyanogen is one of the heaviest and slowest roms I've encountered, although that might just be me . It's filled with cool stuff and options though.
So far I've been hugely impressed with Elite Blade Rom:
It also has a stock looking ui, except for a sexy lock screen. It's very fast, and battery lasts f o r e v e r. Which is very important to me atleast.
Overclocking doesn't damage your phone, because it only lets you overclock to about 800mhz, and if it doesn't like that clock, it just crashes and goes to normal. Around 730mhz always worked for me, and battery life seems not to be affected.
Stock roms are like buying a new laptop, filled with user friendliness and sponsored apps. In other words; Mighty damn slow. So custom ones are definitely the way to go.
One down, nine to go!
By stock Roms i meant stock based modded roms but i agree thats what i thought was bad about cyanogen that it was real slow when i tried it once before i dont thats why understand how the KANGS will make a difference plus i want stock similar roms as there are no bugs not even minor ones for example in elite blade in landscape mode in the status bar the peeking android looks weirdly stretched and stuff the small things..are perfect in GSF.. if the KANGS can work faster then im willing to try that but preferably i want to know if there's a way to add the latest kernel patches or the latest kernel to GSF..?
Thanks for the replies guys
(Swedish Snow was nice but for some reason GSF still feels faster )
hmm ok i will help you out a bit after trying a lot of different roms available for the blade including ones not available on these forums since they are only Chinese based (im not chinese i just like to try out there roms).
Overclocking will not damage your phone mate because if you overclock your phone to a limit which is not supported by your phone it will simply reboot and put back the normal CPU settings for your phone to work in a proper manner (Do not tick set CPU settings in boot).
GPU overclocking is nothing to worry about because the GPU will overclock when you overclock the CPU (3D games experience on the ZTE Blade has improved)
As for other saying they find cyanogen mod 7 slow i do not know what version they flashed but i prefer to use CM7 Kangs developed by BurgerZ & Kernel developed by wbaw (both extremely talented devs).
The reason others may find CM7 slow is because they use ADW Launcher (free) by default but burgerz uses stock gingerbread launcher.
if you dont want to use CM7 my second fav rom for performance would be Swedish Snow
@ruckus92
i tried the rom when it was updated last, it was not bad neither good as the libs it uses need updating nowadays.
CyanogenMod is pretty bloated, but some kangs are not as bloated.
I find that Burstlam's kangs are pretty light and fast. I guess he must have gotten used to developing for Chinese blades (they only have 256 mb of ram)
You can find his latest build here.
I have tried the stock-based roms but didn't notice any major difference between them and Burstlam's rom.
And like Kannibalism said, ADW Launcher free is slow as heck. I suggest you switch to ADW Launcher EX, or a different launcher the next time you try a cyanogenmod rom.

2) power on the phone holding the power button + volume down button (keep holding do not let go of these two buttons till cwm boots)
3) Clockwork recovery will boot up
4) select backup & restore

Comments on Energy™ - ICS CM9 Kang ROM Themed

Hi,
Long time reader, 1st time contributor to these forums. Had some comments on this rom, but not yet allowed to post in Dev section yet so thought I would post here and hope it filters to dev and team.
1st, this is an excellent build and as always I want to thank the dev teams that work so hard on these. Ya'll are awesome
2nd, had issues with numerous SOD errors with this rom which mostly went away once, as suggested by someone else, I increased the Min CPU freq to 800 MHz. It seems to shorten the battery life some, but as it seems to help significantly, I can definitely live with this until this issue can be ironed out.
3rd, most of the remaining SOD issues I have had seem almost always to follow use of graphic intensive apps (e.g. games) or ones that attempt to show HD videos. I am unsure if this is related to the known graphic hardware acceleration issue, or to something as of yet unknown. I also wonder if this is the common experience or if this is specific to my hardware for some reason.
4th, these issues have persisted through out all the updates. I have already tried multiple wipes, repeated fresh downloads of the roms, and fresh re-installs of all apps (i.e. no Titanium restores of apps and/or data) with no change, better or worse, of these SOD issues.
Thanks for reading this post, and for your comments if any. I plan to add to this thread as I gain more experience with this rom.
Sincerely,
William

I had not flashed this because I heard that the Dev on this kernel was having RL issues and therefor not able to work on this kernel right now.
I have also been watching Hashcode's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545172 but looks like it is still not quite ready for widespread use.
Anyone else have experience with these kernels and would care to comment on one verses the other???

I tried to flash this rom, kept getting stuck in the boot animation. I let it set for about 10 minutes once, as someone suggested it might just take a while, but it still didn't boot. Had the same problem on the Reloaded Rom CM9. Finally I just installed the Hellfire CM7 Rom and was able to boot. So I'm sticking with this one for now. Someone suggested wiping after installing the CM9 rom and trying to reboot; I haven't tried this yet but will give it a go later.
I also had the SOD a lot while using this rom. But, I sold that Kindle Fire. So, I didn't really have time to troubleshoot.
The girl that bought it was not tech savvy in anyway. She was telling me the thing won't come on. I was like oh yeah, it does that sometimes. It's called the sleep of death. She didn't understand my technical terms there. So, I said, "It's zombie mode." It is un-dead. She understood that. Then, I told her how to fix it, and talked her through installing CM9.
The point of my awesome story is that SOD is now a feature called "Zombie Mode."
Just have her flash either hashcode's or intersectraven's (sluggish in my experience) kernel.
It's a pretty sweet ROM and the main issue (SODs) isn't the ROM's fault.
Now, if there was a way to switch between different wifi signals like in the stock one, without having to access the Settings menu...
I had numerous SODs while running the default clock frequencies. After changing to the following, I haven`t had a single one:
Sleep: 600 min / 600 max
Wake: 300 min / 1200 max
Sent from my Kindle Fire using XDA
Note that I`m using the default kernel provided in the Energy ROM package, and getting amazing battery life(11+ hours of reading)!

I have tried similar settings with virtual elimination of SOD's with the stock kernel with this ROM, but still occasionally getting some.
Though I had originally (see 1st post) said following graphic intensive apps, I realized last night that these apps are also sound intensive as well. Not sure if it might be a glitch in the sound driver as before the last update I was getting multiple FC's of the mixer.

The 2.6.* version, not the new 3.0 one - it was packed with Energy ROM up to 3-13, then it was switched to miui's kernel.
It's very stable and fast, in my experience. Intersectraven's kernel was stable, but performed poorly. Your mileage may vary...
Since getting my KF back in December I have tried numerous ROM's most of which refused to shut down for me without holding the button till my thumb went numb. Since I know nothing, I follow the loading instructions religiously although sometimes I do wipe twice, just to be sure. On some the wireless was a problem and most froze at one time or another and others would not access the market reliably.
After each trial I have returned to a ICS ROM which was released on Feb 09. Don't know what it's called anymore but it has worked flawlessly for me. It's not quite as fast and smooth as Energy or Reload, but it just works with decent battery life. There are not a lot of bells and whistles but what it does do, it does well. I will keep trying the latest ICS, just for kicks but until these great developers fix the video portion, the battery life portion and the freezing, I doubt I'll stay. I wish I knew who developed the one I am using. I'd like to thank him/her.

I believe you are referring to the rom that now has the thread name "[ROM][24 Feb] IceCreamSandwhich Development/Discussion" originally posted by Bl1nk. Its dedicated to hash and jackpot clavins work. If you really want to thank them, go hit the donate button on there signature remember they work for free so do them a solid, even if its a dollar

The 2.6.* version, not the new 3.0 one - it was packed with Energy ROM up to 3-13, then it was switched to miui's kernel.
It's very stable and fast, in my experience. Intersectraven's kernel was stable, but performed poorly. Your mileage may vary...

Thanks for this information. For some reason I can't pull up Hashcode's web site, but I am at work with a very restrictive web blocking policy (In fact this site is blocked ) If I get a bit of non-family time at home this week I am going to see if I can find the previous version and try it out. I'll report back when I do.
Sincerely,
William

Hey,
I'm having the same SOD problems with this ROM. It can happen at anytime really, getting email or browsing. The only ICS rom that doesn't do this for me is HellFire so I'm not sure what the diferences are between It and the others

I just realized that I had forgotten about this thread. Since I last posted here, I have had a lot of RL issues and I have since switched to gedeROM v1.1 {3.0 Kernel, CM9, Android 4.0.4} which includes Hashcode's Ver 3.0 Kernel. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619550) So far, I have NOT had anymore SOD's even with the standard CPU speeds set to standard. Also, HD video is working (yay!).
Thanks to all who replied to this thread. I would consider it closed.
Sincerely,
William

Hi,
I was running Energy 3.19.2012 until now.
Tried to install Energy 4.29.2012 update (with Hashcode Kernel and new CM9) but I was stuck on boot animation (never got to the system itself).
Did a FULL Wipe (Factory reset > wipe cache > wipe dalvik > wipe system) before flashing. Got stuck on boot anim.
If anyone has the same issue : I had to reflash on top of already installed ROM (Full wipe > 1st install > factory reset > 2nd install > wipe cache + dalvik).
This solved my "stuck on bootanim" problem (which I never had before). Now with KF and HWA \o/
Just flashed the latest Energy ROM. Everything is AWESOME except for the fact that the Google Play Store force closes every time I try to open it. No more SOD or freezing, and it is extremely snappy.
Anyone know of a fix for the force closing of the google play store?

Never happened to me.
Did you wipe everything in TWRP before flashing the 4.29 version ?
"Forced Closed" market problems has been fixed since the 3.19. If you didn't wipe it may be the cause of market FC.
Or you could just try to go to apps > All > Google Play Store and delete cache here.

[ROM][25-04-2012] gedeROM Discussion

A thread in which to discuss gedeROM and the latest build.
Get gedeROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25312180#post25312180
So Far, So Good.............................................. .............
Installed the latest update today and so far working well. Still having an issue with no sound on screen/keyboard press otherwise nothing but the standard 3.0 Kernel issues. So far the best ICS build for the KF I have used
Thanks to Gedemis for all of the hard work on this ROM and thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
William

Diamond in the rough
I would have to say a triple thanks to Gedemis for this ROM. I tried others and have to say that this is the best "polished" one so far. I troll everyday looking for the next big WOW they did WHAT!?! moment.
I only hope that I can get enough "quality" posts so I can start posting in the dev thread and will hopefully get to help out.
The best rom available in my opinion
Great work on the full screen switch

First ICS ROM I have ever tried... EVER!!!! and honestly it's smoother than butter All thanks to you and Hashcode. I might've said this in the other thread but adding gtalk would be nice. (Tried to install from the removed apps zip, didn't work)
Best rom by far and I have no plans on switching as long as gedemis and Hash keep up the good work. The only problems I'm having are otg, some apps that need full screen still crashing despite the option to hide it manually, and that most of the time wifi doesn't connect automatically.

Just wanted to say thanks for the Rom! It works fantastic for me, don't even have any wifi issues seems to like my router. I was wondering about the sounds thought it might just be me, not really an issue I care much about though it must be said. Thanks for all the hard work!
I Still having wifi connection issues, my connection resets every 10 :banghead:
Great rom and thanks for your Job.

OK, I have to say, I was a little hesitant to buy the Kindle Fire, wondering how much I would actually use it. After putting gedeROM on it, I use it more than my galaxy nexus. I used to be on my GNex all evening, now it sits and I use the Kindle Fire. I haven't noticed a single issue/bug yet.
Thanks for the awesome ROM! Expect a donation from me soon.
One small question, does it include network location features?
ADB driver not recognizing KF after 1.2 Install.
Just so it is in this thread (i.e. easy to find) the solution for fixing the KF not being recognized by the ADB driver was posted by Nathris in this post.
Basically cut and paste the lines that are in that dialog box in that post into the sections marked "[Google.NTamd64]; HTC Dream" and "[Google.NTx86]; HTC Dream" in your android_winusb.inf <aka Kindle Driver Installation File>. Reinstall the driver, then reset your PC and viola.
Gedemis said he was going to fix this in the next build but until then the above worked flawlessly for me. Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
William

volume / sound
the volume is too low .... kindle fire ..this thing have 2 speakers and on the stock firmware blows .... what can i do to increase volume ?
My kindle on the new v1.2 keeps disconnecting from the wifi every 5 minutes and then takes about 10-20 seconds to reconnect. Gets kind of annoying when I'm on the browser for an extended amount of time or trying to download something.
Thank for this is my first ICS ROM, and the flash process worked great.
I want to get the Google Apps on it, where and which version do I need to download?
As I understand with ICS you have to have the right version of Gapps.
EDITED: I just realized that calendar and contacts already sync. Where do I get the Gmail app?
Thanks!
Gapps

This ROM comes with "Google Play Store" built in. I just used that to D/L all the Google Apps I wanted. The correct versions will automatically be D/L'd. If you just wanted to flash Gapps, here is the link.

Actually, the ROM comes with the entire gapps built in! Google just decided to let out the gmail app. You can download it in the Play Store though.
Gedemis, could you also have a look at my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638587
I was very satisfied with the rom, but unfortunately had to switch back to be able to use the magazine app.
I don't want to try other roms because they lack the additional features you have

Did you try the newest version? The device is now spoofed as a Galaxy Nexus. Might be that it is compatible with the app now
Yes, I just installed the rom yesterday.
Actually, I'm using Modaco version of the stock rom, so I'm also using a modified build.prop, which disguises the device as Galaxy Tab. But the magazine app works fine. I guess that there are some kind of additional device checks in the app, which would require additional spoofing but I'm not sure if that would be possible or viable.
As far as I see from various comments, it runs without problems HP Touchpad CM9 roms. I wonder what's the difference between those roms and KF CM9 roms.

[Q] Advice for a ROM

Hi guys...
I have a N7 16Gb from october and I think thare's not a real reason to change the rom on this device...except the tablet ui and the general fun to make it!
Well...
I'm not here to ask you guide etc. but an advice.
What custom rom do you advice? many talk about Paranoidandroid but I try it on an old Galaxy Scl and it was pretty horrible and unstable...but on nexus seems the rom most supportend and with much more feature...
Or I'm attracted by the Dirk AOKP that seem pretty good....
Beside this....it's difficult also the kernel decision...
Franco Kernel? or M3 or Trinity? I'm not interested in overclock...
thanks to all in advance
no one?
No one is answering because there are a ton of these threads asked all the time. There is no best Rom or Kernel. Try searching and see what features you like or what sounds interesting and then just install it and see for yourself.
I personally like the Omega 3 kernel, OC is optional and it has just about every scheduler/governor you could possibly want. Performance and battery life are pretty much on par with the other top kernels. I haven't tried any ROMS mainly because the 2 I flashed ended up boolt-looping. So I am using the stock with some pretty major tweaks. I am a DEV on other sites and once I jump through the hoops to be able to post in developer forums I will be posting my own ROM. OC is for people who don't know how to optimize. *cough*

Modaco custom ROM (currently version Jr13) is light, mostly stock, extra features that help me are- prerooted, enhanced power menu, tweaked youtube app for video preload, enhanced quick settings panel, comes with gapps etc.
Modaco cyanogenmod custom ROM (currently version r4) consumes more processing power, based on CM 10.1 so has all its features, prerooted, more enhanced power menu(with screenshot and extended desktop options), tweaked youtube, enhanced quick settings(devoid of vol control), comes with gapps, comes with cyanogenmod file manager etc.
MCR Jr13 and MCMCR r3 are interchangeable with dirty flash so I get to retain all my apps.
M-kernel (currently a33 version) gives me ample undervolting option (lp, cpu, gpu, ram), and I can set minimum brightness with rootdim, so I can extend my battery life.

Don't know why people make thread to ask others what's best rom, kernel... Answers will be different from users and depends what they prefers, so it'll be difficult to make a choice because every answers won't be the same. What I did when i wanted to choose was reading threads and try by myself to see what I liked. Sorry if my answer will not help you to choose but it's the best i can advise you. Hoping you find what best suits you.
Phone: GT-I9100P
Kernel: Dorimanx
ROM: 4.2.1 Vanilla RootBox
Tablet: Nexus 7
Kernel: M-Kernel
ROM: 4.2.1 AOKP PUB
MOD: JusTunBean
Xenon
Im usin Xenon HD its a 4.2 rom (aokp base) and it's very customizable for your likes. You should give it a try.:cyclops:
If you are doing any ROM other than stock, I suggest AOKP for sure. It has a ton of mods for your ui and allows a lot of customizing. Make sure you get 4.1.2 milestone version and get your gapps as well or you won't have necessary files. Hope this helps look in the aokp official thread for download

thanks to all...
all advices are really usefull to understand the mod world...
I was intent to install an AOKP rom, but I don't really understand the difference...
I would like to try the the paranoid but i think is AOSP...
for AOKP I don't know what rom to try...I see the Dirty AOKP but I'm not sure....
There's also one called smooth ROM check it out, you should search YouTube to see if you like it. personally I'm back to the to the 4.1.2 stock rom because on aokp it wasn't allowing me to install some APK's from the play store that i really wanted. it said they werent compatible with my device when I knew they were compatible with n7.. I wish there was a way around that but nobody on here would tell me if there was or not when i posted a thread asking... anyways hope you find what you are looking for and I do suggest checking YouTube first for custom Roms for nexus 7 before flashing over hella different ones it would take less time, peace and good luck!
