[Q] Re-flashing CwM recovery? - Fascinate General

Hey guys,
I rooted my Fascinate successfully, then I installed Titanium Backup.
On TB, I tried 'force uninstalling' VZW Apps.
Then, my Fascinate crashed, and now it boots into recovery.
On recovery, I can't do anything. I'm planning to reset my Fascinate.
Do I need to re-flash CwM Recovery to reset?
Also, do I keep Superuser when I reset?
Android version: 2.3.5
Thanks.

No need to flash again. Since you are still on gingerbread you can use 3 finger method to get into cwm (hold power volume up and down to turn on the phone until the Samsung screen flashes)
You probably don't even have to flash a new rom and can just do a full user data wipe. The caveat to that would be if you tried to push the bad apk as a system app.

Edit: I assumed you had flashed cwm to start since you said reflash but nowhere do you state that you actually have. In any case, try 3 finger. If you end up in cwm you arr golden. If its Samsung recovery then flash cwm.
Oh, and ALL decent roms come pre rooted so don't worry about that. And there's really no reason to use the Samsung stock from as both superclean and geewiz are based on it and include additional fixes and features not found in stock

Still some problems
Hey, thanks for the advice. I think I need to reflash.
Also, I have used the recovery system before.

Fixed Black screen when flashing roms

Fascinate geniuses:
Ever since I uninstalled voodoo, I can't seem to successfully flash any roms using clockwork. I believe I have properly uninstalled it,but cant really be certain.
When I flash a rom, starting from stock, I clear all the memory and data using the options in clockwork, install zip from sdcard, and fix permissions. It says it successfully installed and I reboot.
I get the following:
1. Samsung screen
2. Galaxy s
3. verizon
4. Black screen with keys lit
I let it sit for 10-20 minutes and then pull the battery when nothing happens. The only thing that seems to work is nandroid restore, but cant flash new roms.
NOTE: i had successfully install jt's clean rom v2 and can flash non-voodoo kernals.
Any suggestion, fixes, etc would be greatly appreciated!

NVM....I think I figured out what I happened. I think I lost root when I uninstalled voodoo and didn't notice it.

[Q] Need help rooting

I'm trying to root my Telus fascinate (SGH t959D) not to sure if i should be posting this here or in the vibrant section...
anyways I've tried numerous rooting methods and none have worked, I'll list what I've tried. I've also made sure I have the 64bit drivers for windows 7 installed.
super one click root - goes through the process, appears to be working, says ROOTED, but does not provide root access, it also disables haptic feedback on my 4buttons until a restart
galaxy s one click root - restarts into recovery mode (3e), although no "reinstall packages" option is available. The option i do have is apply sdcard:update.zip which fails do to a signature error.
various other 2.2 root files - same error as in the one click root, except i manually boot into recovery mode via the volume buttons.
various market one click root tools - none work, I got really desperate.
also, im looking for a download link to nero v5, the team whiskey website doesnt have one that i can find...
I haven't tried flashing a new rom with odin yet as some guides say to do... I want to backup files on my phone with titanium backup first, but that needs root.
can anyone recommend any other backup app that doesnt require root?
z4root is flaky and buggy but sometimes it gets the job done.
Replacing just a system partition will not destroy your apps, though it would of course be a good idea to make sure you are flashing a rom based on the stock for your phone to have the lowest chance of FCs on startup. Most roms out there are intended to be flashed in CWM. CWM is actually a kernel flashed to the recovery partition with Odin, but it also lets you make a nandroid backup which will backup almost everything on your phone except the kernel; subsequent restores will make it so you reboot into your phone exactly as it was at the time you did the nandroid. Might want to consider that, as if all goes well you can just flash the rom you want, keep your apps, and be done with it. If not, well, you did make a nandroid after flashing CWM but before flashing your rom, didn't you?

I'm quite familiar with nandroid backups, I'm coming from an HTC hero running modaco's custom rom with some different custom recovery image.
I've tried using z4root before but I'll give it another try. right now I'm looking at an alternate method which i found here using linux. going to give that a try tomorrow.
As for the custom kernels and roms, im still on stock and haven't flashed anything yet with odin. would it be possible to flash clockwork with odin before i get root? will that mess anything up?
So I was at my girlfriends today and decided to give the super one click root another try... it worked.
I've had problems with the usb ports before but I forgot to consider it as an option

Help!

I'm needing stock Kernel and rom for the continuum. cant tell you weather dj17 or 20, and needing files to be flashable via odin. phone goes to stock recovery screen and wont boot CWM. Needing this cause the links in the other threads are broken.
Thank you!
Continue of prior post.
Phone is stuck on boot loop to samsung, will go to stock recov and download mode. when do wipe data/factory reset, it goes into the loop agian. How can i fix this. Another question is if i want to go with a standard mod rom like peteralfonso's, other than loosing the ticker, are there any other issues to be expected. I can think of a few because i dont think the kernel would be compatible. Personally, i dont care about the ticker and think it's stupid. would rather have froyo or GB. Has anyone flashed one of those roms successfuly?
Don't try to flash any roms that aren't specific for the Continuum. It won't work.

It's not because I tried to install custom rom, it's because i tried to install cwm from rom manager. Was wanting to do a cw recovery before i did anything to the phone. Can someone pm me the stock rom, or as close to stock as possible, rooted would be ok. Fortanitly VZW is sending me another phone because of the 14 day no hassel gaurentee.

do you still the files? and what files specifically?
Do a factory reset. I had the same problem after flashing to get CWM. Also, you'll boot into the stock recovery. The confirm button is now the menu softkey, so you select the update.zip for cwm, and run it with the menu soft key. Once in cwm, the power button is the confirm button and the back softkey is to navigate back through the menus. I hope this helps!
It this doesn't help, I have an Odin image for bone-stock, unrooted, as well as stock, rooted. I haven't uploaded anywhere, but I could, possibly tomorrow.
I am having similar issues except when i try a factory reset it hangs up on formatting "/scard/.android_secure..."
Also when i load recovery it says it cane mount /cahce/recovery/command, /cache/recovery/log
any ideas?
Nevermind.

Problem after flashing roms

Hey so I've been flashing roms for awhile now with no problems... But the other day I odined back to stock... Now after I flash any rom when I use the power button to try to wake the phone up to get to the lockscreen it takes forever for it to wake up... But this only happens after I flash a rom.... Doesn't happen on the stock jfd rom..... So I know its nothing wrong with the button itself....
And also after flashing custom rom and booting into recovery from cwm the recovery will be red not green and I can't restore any nandroid backups....
So anyway... I haven't done anything different than I have in the past as far as flashing goes but now my phone is jacked!
If anyone knows why this is happening I would greatly appreciate any help!
Thanks

This happened to me the other day and I could not restore a nandroid either. Still don't know what happened and I haven't even tried to restore anything b/c I don't want to have to Odin back and rebuild everything again from scratch.
When I was on Cincinnati Bell stock Froyo, I was able to root and install CWR with the green recovery and screwed something up and was able to restore just fine. I have since flashed Toxic8 which comes with the Red Recovery and through some self-inflicted stupidity, caused an unrecoverable bootloop that I couldn't clear, wipe or restore. That is when I had to Odin and rebuild.
Interested if anyone else knows why this is. Wonder if I could download CWR from market and use that as opposed to the Red Recovery that came with the ROM?
The red cwr is for voodoo enabled roms make sure you disable voodoo before flashing roms that do not include voodoo lagfix.

I knew that Red was for Voodoo, but would I have to disable it to restore the same ROM, just a backup? With the Red Recovery,I haven't been able to restore anything at all. In fact IIRC I did try it with it disabled and it didn't work that way either.

[Q] Wiping didn't work, messed up restore - now can't boot into TWRP

First time flashing CM, and I may have messed up.
I rooted, installed TWRP, everything went perfect. I made a backup, and then tried to do a factory wipe. The wipe ended with the messages "unable to mount /system", "... /cache" and another one. I still tried to flash, and it just immediately got stuck, nothing happened. I rebooted, and everything worked fine. It was the Samsung stock image and all my apps were still there. I'm assuming it just didn't wipe at all.
I then went full retard mode, and tried to do a restore. I wanted to be sure my phone wouldn't fail on me in the recent future because some random stuff may have been partially wiped or something. Feel free to tell me I have the IQ of a chimp.
This completely messed things up, as it just got stuck at "Restoring System...". Eventually I restarted it with the power button. Now it can't boot normally, it can't boot into recovery mode, which just leaves download mode.
Any way I can fix this and subsequently install CM properly? I'm using TWRP 2.6.3.0. I've been told it's recommended to use 2.5, as the other version may have some issues (including not being able to recognize partitions). Only download mode still seems to work, so maybe there's a way to flash my phone back into the living world?
Versions:
Team Win Recovery Project 2.6.3.0
CyanogenMod 10.1.3 (RC2 jfltexx)
Thanks!
No idea really but maybe try to flash default rom/recovery etc with odin?
I've had this problem. Seeing as you only have download mode you have to flash a stock Rom and start again. Recoveries for our phone are still I development. Use official CMW to install CM, using links in Op.

I got the Samsung stock ROM of july, flashed it using download mode, and everything was back! I then rooted it again, and installed CMW (see versions below). I went into recovery, and tried to do a backup. It told me it failed: "Error while making a backup image of /data!". I then wondered if it may have been due to a lack of storage (which could very well be, as that was the issue before and the old backup by Teamwin was probably still on it somewhere), so I rebooted my phone. That's when it just failed and kept showing the Samsung logo at boot. I tried flashing my ROM again, again the logo. Then I did a factory reset using the regular recovery (cache and data reset), which fixed it. Now all my apps and data are gone, but that's no problem.
I'm back at the unrooted Samsung stock image now. Any ideas what I did wrong? These were the versions I used:
CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505
i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2(0611)
Odin3 v3.07
I did nothing more than root, install CMW, try a backup and then it all went to ****. I'm surprised a backup can even do that.
Mmm I'm not too familiar with the internal workings of backups. Perhaps something was corrupted during flashing? Glad to hear that you have got your phone working again. There is an updated version of CMW somewhere in the original development thread.

i've had the exact same issue.
I did go back to stock firmware and recovery, rerooted(chainfire) and installed the latest CWM 6.0.3.6.
Then, i did download Jamals Google play 4.3 rom, placed it on my SDcard and did follow the instructions. Works like a charm, and i've got noe clue what happened to my phone. however, it works now.

I tried CMW 6.0.3.6 and the Google Play 4.3 ROM as you said, and it works perfectly! I didn't try a backup this time, as it didn't exactly have anything to back up anymore.
Finally my precious vanilla Android again, I missed it since I switched from my Galaxy Nexus to my S4. Thanks a lot guys!
Edit: I do seem to be having one issue. Quite frequently after it's booted, and I enter the SIM pin, the message "Unlocking SIM card..." stays there indefinitely. I can use the phone but the message covers everything up. This doesn't always happen, but quite often. I've read some ROMs can't handle SIM lock, like CM. This is a Google Play edition, however. Is it normal that this doesn't work?
I can seem to fix it by holding the power button, and choosing "Unlock SIM" from the menu. I guess it's not that bad as I don't often reboot my phone.
