[Q]Why mixes this thread Defy and Defy plus? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear staff!
Does somebody answer me a simple question? As I see, Defy and Defy plus two types of android phones. Defy roms, mods, solutions aren't compatible with Defy plus and vice versa.
So why they are in same topic? I am often confused, not sure that I read is useful or not to me. There are lot of themes, where I cant figure out, which phone is targeted.
Why don't you cut to two half this mixed topic? Make one named Defy and another to Defy Plus.

The que is not directed to me but still I'll answer..
Defy & Defy+ aren't two different Android phones but variants of the same phone..just like a green lens & red lens defy.. and that isn't the only thing which differentiate.. the bootloader versions, the stock OS also varies phone to phone.. as far as the mods, and solutions are concerned, a mod for even defy+ might not work on every defy+..and perhaps a mod for defy might work with + .. so different section will not only increase the useless overhead but will also make things more confusing..
Just try to read through the posts..most of the things have been discussed.. if still confused just ask, and you will be helped..

Thanks for your answer. Its getting clear.
So, if I am not sure I will ask a question. But it's not too simple, because I can't post questions into every topic. (Just after ten "helpful" post.)

[DISCUSSION CLOSED] DZ forums vs G2 forums

Edit: This topic is already in discussion. Please do not create duplicate threads simply to bring the subject "up again." Please direct further discussion to [DISCUSSION] Merge subforums? A single development Forum for ALL HTC Vision phones? ~TheRomMistress
Now that the DZ has finally shipped, we're already starting to get questions about stuff that's already been worked out over on the G2 forums (e.g. deleting stock apps).
Aren't we going to get increasing overlap, and discussion of the same subjects as on the G2 forum ? The same applies for ROM Development as well as general, e.g. discussion on DZ rooting - why duplicate what's already going on for the G2 ?
If you haven't done so already, head over to the G2 ROM dev forum and see how out of date we are here already on the DZ side.
Surely there's very little stuff that's G2-specific, why don't we merge the forums ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797956
ok, sure, there was a thread before on this, but I thought it was worth bringing up again, now that the DZ is shipping and that we're already starting to get a lot of duplication.
If you're offended that I didn't bump your original thread, then I apologise.
Dont worry mate,
just wanted to point out this has been discussed and there were detractors,
but hey I absolutely agree with you:
we are starting to DUPLICATE EVERYTHING that has beed asked/posted/discussed @ G2 fora
1.- the hinge
2.- overclocking
3.- deleting apps
4.- root
5.- torch
6.- etc...
I still think it's THE SAME device, just different 3G bands !!
Technically it is the same device but until we get full root on both there is some subtle differences.
size of /system
sense -v- non-sense
therefore until we get full root its probably easier in the long run to just replicate threads rather than merge the two.
After root though the phones become one and the same and should then be merged.
Well, I just PM'd my thoughts on this to svetius, as he asked in that previous thread. I'd encourage anyone else who has views on this to do the same.

erm can't remember where I read it but I am sure the /system on teh g2 is smaller as the rom size of vanilla is far smaller than the rom size of sense.
Root & dev will prove cross-fllash possible / impossible
Maybe shipped ROMs will be unable to cross-flash, but custom ROMs ??
Still many Qs...
but as I just stated @ the other thread, let's keep the door opened to such possibility
.

[POLL] New sub-forums

Dear Community members,
Should we have 2 separate sub-fora for Android development and Themes and Apps:
-Sense
-AOSP
I think it will make our live easier, but it's just an idea. I included a poll so please, do MASSIVELY express yourself! I did vote Yes, of course!
Regards
forelli
Can't say it would be a bad idea, might split people though and some forums don't like that.
Sent from my ADR6300 using......you get the idea.
any organisation is good organisation
I voted no. Why? Because there are so much common things for both builds in those forums.
Android dev: leaks, radios, guides, kernels, general mods (like recent usb host). It should be a general place to find all the custom ROMs.
Themes: I agree that themes are usually for CM or Sense only, but there are also common things like bootanimations, splashes, etc.
I agree with both sides of the case here, however a well titled ROM Thread
e.g
[ROM][SENSE][etc][etc]............
or
[ROM][AOSP][etc][etc]............
Would do just fine. So I voted no.
I opened this thread because it proved difficult to find a CM7 theme or kernel! You have to go through I don't know how many pages before you find something for CM7.

As it has already been said, a well titled thread should help more than the infinite splitting of the forums. You'll just have to use the search button. What's next? Froyo and Gingerbread subforums? Once i get to a computer I'll vote 'no'.

I don't know about AOSP or SENSE forums, but I think it would be a good idea to gather all guides (rooting, flashing, s-off etc.) to the same place. That way they would be easier to find than now as they are scattered all over the forum. This would also reduce the numbers of new threads started by people asking questions that have already been answered several times.

The sticky roll-up thread in Android Developement maybe?!? They are there, but unfortunately you can have those guides in big red letters on top of every page and there will sill be someone, who thinks it's easier to ask than to read. It has to be the human nature . Actually proposing this, means that you too have never looked at the sticky roll-ups in the forums! Shame on you!

I think this will be the best if we just tag them, so the common things will be in one place and the different ones Wilkinson be much more easy to find.

Yes I've read the stickies, but there isn't listed even nearly all the most commonly needed guides like the getting back to stock guide, improving battery life guide and radio s-off guide just to name a few. Also it would be good to have the known solutions/reasons to common bugs/problems listed somewhere. These threads can ofcourse be found on the forum as it is but if no one posts to the threads (because they are solved) they will fall back to the last pages of the threads list and thus become harder to come across.
And yes I know that the common DHD issues can be found in the general section sticky, but also that one isn't fully comprehensive. Just to give an example the CWM booting while charging issue can't be found there even though the issue has been there since we got CWM on our phones, hasn't it?

Most stable fully featured ICS ROM

Hi guys,
Sorry for this question but I'm looking for the most stable ICS ROM, as long as its stable has touchwiz and everything works, rotted would be a bonus - I'm bamboozled by the amount of ICS ROMS. Not bothered about speed kernels as its my girlfriends phone. Camera+camocorder must work.
Can anyone recommend any please?
My GF's phone is currently o2 UK branded but not bothered about losing the branding.
Thanks

its a standard starter question though. maybe a helpful volunteer journalist could keep tabs on the developments and report in a sticky. then again, just an idea~
Wow, you are brilliant! Instead of reading at least two or three threads, you come straight away and create a thread, and searching for answers.

YES but they refuse point blank to read such threads FAQS and GUIDES are not for them .Result a big jumble and harder to get answers to difficult questions . Experienced users stop reply to the same question asked over and over .Noobs then give wrong information .
You will probably find that development lists are on the forum already .
jje
Please just try the ROMs until you find one that works. There is no other way to do this but spend a little time reading and researching on your own. I think you will find that all ICS roms have some issue, you will just decide which issues you can live with.

[OFF TOPIC] Problems with SGS2 Forums

The SGS2 Development forums are being ruined!!!!
Its meant to be a forum where the great devs post their roms, but users are ruining it with posts, posts about
'how do I flash this kernal' or 'how do i flash this rom? what order do I flash it? how do I add a mod? this doesnt work?!!
thats not really nothing to do with Development of Roms, its laziness of not reading the General or Q and A forum! each of the two forums I have mention have a very in depth guide how to flash a kernal, flash a rom, flash anything!!! Also on the first page of EVERY rom is a guide on whats included/not included
this place is not a playschool, you shouldnt need your hands holding flashing anything to your phone, thats what search is for!!! you spent money on the phone......LEARN!!!!!
MODS..... You need to sort out the dev forum, it makes horrible reading the amount of off-topic posts (not telling you how to do your jobs, as you do your jobs very well!)
who agrees with me? look, my wife is not technology minded at all, but reading all the posts, she managed to install a kernal, installed a custom rom, root and install a couple mods.....surely my wife (bless her) doesnt know phones at all, managed to do that, surely any/every user can do the same, remember.....read General forum (STICKY POSTS) and Q & A forum, or use Google!!!!!
Another Thing....People expect EVERYTHING to work perfectly as soon as a new version of OS comes out, users were DEMANDING everything works on kitkat within days of first version coming out....give devs a break
Lastly a 'Well Done' to the Devs, who are still creating roms and mods for this nearly 3 year old phone, you deserve a bloody medal all of you the amount of stuff you have to put up with!!!
...and Breathe........
this post is in no way directed at one or two of you, its directed to the people who demand, and basically want everything done for them and handed to them on a plate.
Bravo.
I could say more, but I'm pretty much over the stage of lazy, demanding n00bs (and some not so n00bs who should know better) giving me the ****s. I learned it's just not worth getting worked up about, because nothing will ever be done about it. I figure if TPTB don't care, why should I ? 'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, etc, etc'
But you've absolutely nailed it (5 starred & OP thanked).
Agree with MistahBungle here, well written and 100% true.
I am a keen follower of the ROM NeatROM and you wont believe the amount of off-topic crap that appears there everyday.
I mean, i have seen some problems posted in this thread that remotely has nothing to do with Neatrom or any other ROM for that matter. Some guys have even starting to talk and discuss about whether they should flash .pit files or not.. <-- That has absolutely nothing to do with neatrom or any rom actually.
To make even matters worse.. everyday you just keep seeing the same question/issue posted, the posters dont even have the decency to search! Even with the custom search bar that searches only in the specific threads!
I feel bad for the NeatROM seniors that repeatedly have to answer the same question.. and be completely ignored when trying to control the chaos that is the NeatROM thread.
The sad truth of this is that no one who actually needs to read this will read it, and the same crappy cycle of ignorance will continue on until the Galaxy S2 forum bit by bit will die slowly and painfully.

Issues on the Moto G (2014) XDA section

I'm a senior member of this forum. I'm 51 years old. I always used this forum for the several devices I own(ed) with great pleasure ever since I joined XDA.
This is the first time I start a thread because I need to say this!
My latest phone: the Moto G (2014), XT1068, is a great phone.
Unfortunately I can't say so about the XDA section here!
First of all there's very littlte development here. Understandable, because it's a relatively new device.
But now to my point: people here are starting threads for the most silly reasons and this morning I read a thread that almost made me leave this section and triggered me to make this thread.
I don't know what kind of people buy this device and then sign up for XDA, but I see a lot of 'unprofessional' posting. A lot of new people who obviously don't have any experience in flashing roms, kernels, recoveries, etc. Nor do they have much experience on this forum! A lot of people seem to have only signed up to know when a Lollipop update wil be there and how to get it! I'm afraid many people are just teenagers here...
I miss the threads with Orginal Developed roms, with questions and logcats to improve a rom. I miss Cyanogenmod, and all the other general roms...
Furthermore, I don't have anything against people of India. On the contrary, one of the best roms here is from an Indian: Pyr0_Bl4de with his Andro-X! But you Indians dominate the threads, not only here on XDA, but also on the Motorola Owners Forum with just asking for ETA's of Lollipop. Many people (and not only Indians) don't read and search first. They just post a question that has already been answered before.
I'm always willing to help, if I can. But somehow my patience has come to an end.
Possibly this thread wil be closed soon too. It doesn't directly contribute to the development here. But I wanted to have it said anyway.
Sorry in advance if I offended people!

Agreed, had many phones in the past, never seen such a boring section as this, multiple threads closed down because of stupid lollipop questions, imagine how motorola must feel with the amount of owners asking about LP all the time, I want the update like most of us, but come on people, get some sleep, go out and enjoy the fresh air doing walking, sports or family things and get on with your lives.
In the process of waiting for a new phone to arrive, as much as I like the dual sim on this phone, redraws, memory problems, screen touch problems are starting to get too annoying and I think it's nearing the time to say goodbye to the moto g 2014, sadly., but I will not be loosing any sleep over it.

To be honest, I did report several posts and threads. Most of them where closed after me complaining... But I'm always reluctant to say I reported, because I don't want to be flamed for it....
I'm not a senior member and I get a lot out of this section for our great phone, with advice and tips here I've improved it considerably from stock. I've also owned other devices and XDA is a great resource for those and will be for the Moto G 2014 in due course. Patience is the key, more development will come in time, although a couple of non stock kernels and at least one ROM are already here. Enough for me to be pleased about so far.
I don't pay to attention to the kind of threads you allude to, so am happy to ignore them, it takes all sorts to create an active forum, though gw's immature outburst earlier today was classic and earned him the temporary suspension deserved, we shouldn't let posters like that spoil XDA and derail the section. The thread title is usually enough for me to know if its worth opening.
I like this place.

If you thought that was bad, take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2942803
(Same OP)
The lack of any significant project work for the XT106x is easily accounted for -- an update to the next major revision is due OTA. No-one who is seriously considering working on this device is going to bother until then. And even then, it is best to wait for Motorola to publish the kernel sources.
I don't really understand the fuss about CM on the Moto G anyway. The stock environment is close enough to vanilla that I would be happy to apply Xposed (assuming it will eventually be rewritten for ART and the new framework), build a kernel with a few extra modules and useful patches, and then cook up a zip with half the gapps and motorola software removed... Job done.
It seems like 5.0 still has a few significant bugs to squash before Motorola are happy to roll it out. I'm glad they're taking a more cautious approach, rather than pandering to impatient and self-entitled kids.
I have been a member for nearly 10 years now, when XDA was a very small site dedicated to the XDA PDAs and phones back then. During this time I have seen the site grow into an extremely useful support and development forum for professionals and enthusiasts.
But now I am witnessing a slow decline in those people and a rapid increase in members who contribute nothing and complain when they don't get immediate help and don't thank you when you do give them that help. There are more and more vile trolls who stir up the community too. It's disheartening .
I am not a developer and I still see development as a black art which I would love to be a.part of. But over the years I have offered my help to those in need and spent many hours working through something technical in order to do that. Often as I said with no thanks.
I am not sure what we can do about the influx of those that spoil it for the rest of us. But I am not going to give up being a community spirited contributor to these forums and I hope you guys don't either.

For the most I totally agree with you! Still, for the past few years CM was my rom. So I was accustomed to it. It never ever crossed my mind when I bought this device, that there wouldn't be a CM for it... Call it naive, it probably is!
To make things clear: I'd prefer CM11 over stock lollipop! Even when this lollipop it's very vanilla and AOSP
Whatever, most likely there will be a CM12 in the (near?) future.
Guess I have to learn to be patient too...
@smitharro It is a sign of these times. People do not read. Do not give anything from each other. They think that it's okay to start hundredth thread on the same topic.
I'm on xda since 2008. My first phone call, because of which I set up an account here,is the HTC Wizard. I knew then that I was a noob, so I've read. I read everything possible,to not ask stupid questions, to find answers, to learn something.
People do not read and do not care about others.
Now I think that ignorance requires napalm and a bulldozer.
@rufflove i will always prefer cm over vanila aosp or stock mototrola....cm is way better than anything else out there...
and yes i am a member since 2008 ...and i used use my htc at & t 8525 hermes phone( ya that phone still working and i sometimes use it as my 3g modem).
That time xda used to be a site for windows mobile enthusiasts. (xda is name of windows mobile pda)
Now the members grown to enormous amount....
Still i think xda is the best site around to get help ...

Since my old was 5830i Galaxy Ace , i was happy with that forum it was because half of the forum was controlled by us ( RC's ) , no one was a big noob like don't know anything , even that person doesn't know anything but posting in right section helps him . In these forum when i came to see , my first observation was it is totally messed up with many new to ( ANDROID ) users get my point (ANdroid ) due to that , that members post anything what ever they think & just post .
To control these 1 . Take all over unread thread to be read and understood , then a genuine reply . ( it will take too long time not easy )
2. Or just simply reading there OP & hit report button .
3. Or just ignore them & simply watch .
I understood your thoughts , but what can we do 1 or 2 people against the whole bunch of million people so just time is a key wait for a while & we will be on track . Let they get little bit matured & understand what is XDA .
Thank You

Funny! My daughter owned a 5830i once. It came to CM 9 quite stable! Then she dropped it on a rock while riding a horse. The phone rests in peace...
