Bye bye dhd - Desire HD General

Well it looks like my dhd will out of the window at the end of the month.
Was going to get the htc one x but just looked at the sg3
And hello to the Samsung Galaxy III
Just been watching the launch of it and looks nice what do you think of it guys?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191

Well it looks like its a step up from the DHD.

I would really go with One x, since it has 100 mhz faster CPU and has geforce instead of old Mali 400 (SGS III)

SGS3 was a disappointment for me.
-pentile screen
-still a hardware button
-seems too big
-hardware isn't that impressive compared to current smartphones

User of DHD
Hi,
I am not an expert in phones, however, using the Desire HD for the last year and a half got me to appreciate the efforts were put into it by HTC. The UI is very user friendly and I love all the aspects of the phone.
Since most of our life style and coping up with technology is now becoming expensive as there are tons of phones coming out like every month or two, one have to really evaluate the need for change. I currently have the same question that you are having, should I upgrade and to what?
Galaxy S3. Nope, I don't think so, after understanding the premium quality and feel of HTC, there is something about them that always keeps me attracted to them, not to mention how specs packed is the One X is.
Since HTC is promising ICS for my DHD and since it is in a great condition, I will wait before I upgrade to the One X. Let's see what updates we will get with the DHD.
Sorry if this reply is too long. Just thought it will help.

I wouldn't buy the sg III just because of the pentile screen. Also i think that the back cover looks way too cheap.

The fact it has expandable memory, the S3 has my vote right now.

That seems to be the only positive point in SGS III compared to htc one x
EDIT: After reading this i would change my statement above and go on saying that this article states that the CPU used in SGS III is actually faster than tegra 3 but despite the fact that it is using the old MALI 400, overall it puts itself below HTC One x. But i don't think you'll be disappointed by both of the phones so now the choice is upto you.

I'll be keeping the dhd as a backup phone or give it to my wife.

The exynos is better than Tegra 3.

The SGS III really looks nice. But there are some problems for me.
-Bloated and (imho) ugly software, with sooo many stuff that i will never use.
-Screen may be too big. I already had the One X in my hands and i'm not sure i could live with it. I have medium size hands but certain actions just arent comfortable..
One X has the same screen size probem, less not exchangable battery and only 32gb memory (i need more).
Soo i have an update in September but i really wouldnt know what to get at this point... I think the Huawei Ascend D quad XL looks veeery promising. Vanilla ICS, huge battery, 4.5", but its the first superphone from them soo... Its really not that easy atm imho. 6 months ago i would have said SGS II all the way.

Maybe because not everyone has a thousand dollars to splurge on a phone?
The Mini is obviously going to cost lesser than the S2, so it gives people an alternative to buying the 'Ultimate Flagship' phone.
Because not everyone want to have "laptop" in a pocket. For a primary phone which is used daily I find 4.3 screen too big. Still SGS2 or HTC Pyramid will most probably be my next phone, but before I buy it, I want to check how it goes into a pocket. My current HTC Desire have good dimensions, but is already almost one year old so I have to buy something new. If SGS2 is too big, then SGS2 Mini will be good choice. Looks like it has even faster processor (1.4 ghz).
Well looks like it's a cheaper version with a non dual core processor and a camera with lower resolution

A lot of people complain that 4.3" screen is too big, so its smart move to offer similar hardware (dualcore etc) with smaller display and smaller dimensions.
I would already pre-order Desire S if it would be dualcore.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
galaxy S II mini has no dual core. well no one actually said what it has for real, but people are guessing its a snapdragon, overclocked msm8655 i believe. i rather wait for official samsung announcement (hoping its a hummingbird, not snapdragon, dont really care about dual core/camera)
if this costs simillar (or close enough) as xperia neo, i will get sgs II mini
LOL 3.7" a mini? ...
the engineers needs some eye check
at the very maximum 3" might be passable as mini
mini should not go beyond 2.8" in size
3.7 is the new mini! 4.0 is average, 4.3 is big, 4.5 is yummy big, and 5.0 is sleddable. Like how they secretly enlarge shirt and pants sizes as the world gets fatter.
I think everyone needs to take the "Mini" part relatively.
Compared to 4.3" a 3.7" screen is certainly the smaller brother!
I think 4.3" will get the job done for me though. (I imagine that's something "she" definitely didn't say.)

Getting an Arc.

Well, I have a Blackberry Torch at the moment, I know I know, I suck. Its a good phone, but I miss my Galaxy S after selling it to get it!
With no rock solid date on the Galaxy SII I had to decide on another phone and this is it I think!
Few questions first though!
Will I regret not getting a phone with a dual core CPU? They're only 1 or 2 months away, and don't know!
Whats dev support like with this? Any major devs interested yet?
EDIT: Oh and is the Adreno 205 powerful enough?
Thanks! Ben.
If your in it for the long haul and want a phone for a couple of years its probably worth the wait. especially if you really liked the SGS. Arc is nice phone and nothing wrong with it but its rather underpowered for a flag ship device these days.
I'm not likely to keep this for very long I've gone through 3 phones in the last 6 months. I will most likely upgrade in the next 6 months anyway, so I've pretty much decided on this one, depending on how quickly I can sell my Torch!
I was thinking about the same thing!
Why wait a couple of months for the SGS2 to get it for 650$ when we can have the Arc now which is a jewel ?
My N1 which is not as powerfull as Arc is still very smooth and fast with 2.3, in worst case scenario I can get the Arc now and switch to htc Pyramid which will be even better than SGS2 in 6 months...in a much lower price

This is pretty much what I was thinking!
By the end of the year, we might be on quad core CPU's anyway
I have to say that I don't think that the Arc is at all underpowered.. the processor is very quick and will hold it's own admirably against anything out there.
Never been impressed with Qualcomm, then again, the last one I had was 533Mhz and was on WinMo
I've pretty much settled on this beast now anyway! I just need to order!

Well its ordered anyway! Hopefully I'll like it.
Anybody got any comments on the size compared with a Galaxy S? Hopefully its not too much bigger, that was my perfect size!
Galaxy S -
Dimensions 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm
Weight 119 g
Arc -
Dimensions: 125 x 63 x 8.7 mm;
Weight: 117 gms
Having used a Nexus S, Desire HD and Galaxy S...
I must say I am very impressed with the Arc... Was very disappointed in the X10, did not keep it longer then the a month...
I sold the iPhone 4 and got the Arc and I am very happy with my purchase...
Good call!!! and welcome..

So this size isn't that noticeable?
I've always thought the Galaxy S is thinner than the iPhone, probably due to the materials used and the much light weight. I hope the same is true with the Arc!

Desire HD or HTC HD2

I want to buy a new smartphone. What is the best?
Is there other options because those phones are both nice but there are newer ones with dual core about the same price as those phones. If you want versatility then the HD2 is the phone for you. if you want pure android from the door and dont really want the hassle of messing around then I would go withe the Desire HD. I have the HD2 and i love the phone alot of development for it but it is getting old. I would go with the Desire HD.
czarsuperstar......... Define versatility.
Uh...
Desire HD has newer CPU and GPU.
So... Desire HD/

Grip of death issue on the Sensation...and the nail to the coffin for the Sensation is that other brands do offer better per dollar value...such as SGSII. lol.
Between HD2 and Desire HD, go with the Desire HD, its a far newer phone with improved CPU and GPU as well as other small tweaks such as the camera, most importantly, a far more superior operating system...HD2 had a lot of issues with the digitaliser...

If I were you I would not consider hanging with these phones. Though very popular phone but...I would put 10% more on the top of my budget n bought the new dual core phones like sensation or GS2.
I got DHD now. I like it but there are couple of other phones more powerful, better GPU and better battery life.
Decision is yours: If no last options I would prefer DHD far better specs than HD2

I'm also tempted to buy a S2 galaxy.
People b*tch about it being plastic but you have very good plastic and bad metal if you know what I mean, as long as the chassis is sturdy.
Also rf-signals (gps, wifi, bt and gsm (still a phone)) pass through plastic more easily than metal.
For one I would not buy a HD2 anymore if it would be your only phone.
Like someone said, hardware issues. Head down to the hd2 forum and you will see loads of people complaining about bad blocks, digitizers etc. things that are not really replacable etc.
As being a 'toy' phone then yes the HD2 is fantastic.
I now have the DHD but I'm still not sure that I like it. I also have a ZTE blade (yes the cheap thing) and it beats the DHD in wifi, gps and loudspeaker (as being able to hear something not like a tweeter on the DHD)
The DHD on the other hand is faster, has a better camera (still seeing pink spot, check a grey wall and bump up colour and contrast) and larger screen (did I say that the ZTE screen was brighter also?).
So it all depends on your needs.
I would love to testdrive a couple of phones and compare them for a week.
There are 2 things about SGS2 which wins over Sensation. It's Super Amoled bright screen and it's light weight!
Downside: very cheap looking phone! seems like bought from a $2.00 shop lol
Sensation: It's got sense 3.0 because it make sense! a bit lagging If I'm not wrong my DHD runs smoother than HTC sensation. > May be they have fixed with the new update!
NOT to overwhelm OP with these ideologies . Ya should have these things in mind before buying your SMART PHONE. Or else you'll end up regrating. Now we say HD2 is old 2,3 months later you'll say to Sensation or GS2. It's all Money and Marketing but on top of that you should consider your own needs and requirements from a smart phone.

Owned my desire for a week and it's BRILLIANT compared to HD2 problems.

As few have mentioned the DHD has better hardware spec than the HD2.
What nobody has mentioned though is the screen is way better on the DHD especially in terms of accuracy of typing, thats what i've found anyway...
If they are your only 2 choices defo the DHD in my experience...
DHD is better than HD2,they are uncomparable, but why not another newer and more powerful dual core phone? The two of them are out of fashion now.
I think the Desire HD is still a very good phone compared to the newer generation phones (SGS2, Sensation) and a viable option. It depends on what features you need though.
Why?
-Dualcore does not bring any real advantages right now. When apps really profit from it there will be better phones. + it usually uses more power than singlecore.
So the speed improvement compared to a DHD is very minimal and probably not noticable in general.
-DHD has one of the best custom rom support. From different Sense 2.1 and Sense 3 roms to Cyanogen or MIUI variations you can flash what you want on your DHD. Custom roms on the newer phones are still in early developement.
-Software from both SGS2 and Sensation isnt quite there imho. Touchwiz is well... touchwiz, and SGS2 has some problems with 3d games and overheats sometimes. And somehow the sensation just doesnt feel that smooth (i had the feeling sense 3 on my DHD runs smoother^^) we can only hope updates will correct that.
I could go on. But in my opinion upgrading from a DHD to one of the newer phones is something you should only do if you have more than enough money on your bank.
But you're in another situation. You need a new phone and if money is an issue i think the DHD is still a good option (forget the HD2 its just too old). Its not without flaws but neither are the newer phones.
I will stick to my DHD for at least another year. But if I would be in your spot(and money wasnt an issue) right now id probably go for the Sensation with a good custom rom (they should be out soon with the bootloader unlocked now).
The SGS2 is very good, but there are some things that are dealbrakers for me. For example the screen. Everyones praising it to heaven but i think its just awefull to look at^^ Colors are way off. And stuff mentioned above..

Leak: Droid Incredible 3 Pictures

Pictures of a new HTC device running Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0 were leaked. The device is heading for Verizon and it will have LTE capabilities!
Check out the source for pics of the new device running sense 4.0.
Source
This might be a true successor to the original Droid Incredible. Some sites are saying AMOLED, so that would be nice. I'm not a fan of SLCD. Now, if only they can do something about battery life. That's the reason I didn't go to Rezound (oh, and the fact that the phone was way too thick in the first place).
I'm really torn. I like HTC Sense (Yeah, I guess I'm in the minority) but the battery on the Razr Maxx makes me want to overlook that I am not a fan of Moto's UI as much and their screen issues. If by some miracle HTC has addressed battery size/life, I think this will be my next phone.
Looks nice and all, but I'm pretty reluctant to purchase another snapdragon phone. Sense can be cool but future-proofing is cooler. As we all know from our Adreno 200 woes, snapdragon products are not future-proof and qualcomm has made no effort to collaborate with the community to bring us updated video drivers or open source userspace drivers. I'm voting with my wallet on this one.

Here's what this phone's gotta have for me to get one: a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, an HD screen that is NOT pentile, and a battery that approaches 2000 mAh.
I would also like to be able to turn Sense off and go plain vanilla, or I'd like to use a launcher of my choice.
I've been eligible for an upgrade since January 4th. It's hard holding off until MWC and CTIA... If I don't see anything I like, it will be an LG Spectrum for me.

I only did a 1 year (remember those) upgrade when I got my Incredible.. and I got it day 1...
There has been nothing yet to want me to change to a new phone...
What I want: CDMA / GSM / LTE on 1 chip (which should be in phones by end of year - will definitely help battery life if everything was on one)... Super Amoled.... 4 inch Screen (slightly bigger than the Incredible.. but not huge like the others. I have big hands.. really big.. but its a phone.. not a tablet I want)... GREAT camera... And long battery life (hopefully fixed with my first wish)...
I'm not an Android fanboy.. or an iOS fanboy.. I just want a phone to match what I want.
Hmmm... I'll probably miss my optical track "ball". I rarely use it but comes in handy for editing.

I just want to see Verizon's line of phones for this summer so I can make an informed decision. Rumors are great but the one thing not mentioned is becoming more important, battery capacity.
Looks huge. Why have all the companies gotten caught up in a screen size pissing contest? We need another RAZR that is thin AND small. Not like the current one, which is closer to a machete than a razor.

I need your opinions ...

hey guys ... really i need your opinions ...

but sometimes i feel that i will not find a big different between them.
what i will got in sensation :
-better screen type

-secondary camera (doesn't matter at all)
- Dual-core 1.2 CPU ( with old Scorpion cores based on Cortex-A8)

also i'am thinking in Sensation XE i can buy it too
but plz don't tell me wait for HTC ONE series cause it will be expensive for me
note: i still have a chance to keep my DHD
A friend of mine has the Sensation.
It a little faster and the screenresolution is better.
But the screen of the Desire HD i have is a little wider and that is for me more interesting.
There a two important things for the Sensation:
- better camera like HD video
- front camera (for esp. video chat)
If you don't need this you have a very good smartphone with the Desire HD.
I'll be waiting for the One because these are really new ones!
Otherwise it's a personal feeling for your favorite phone.
All of them are very good smartphones.
I think it all comes down to what it's gonna cost you to change, for anything more than 50GBP I think you'll be disappointed with the sensation, if it where me I'd stick with the DHD until the ONE series drop to sensible prices
