1. 60% more gpu power than its predecessor. not a fail.
2. pentile screen. agreed sort of. but at 720p is it really that noticeable?
3. ram only having 1 gig? why would u want more? not a fail.
4. design. absolute fail.
5. android 2.3 key arrangements? explain why thats a fail
5. hardware keys. its been said there are people who prefer hardware keys so not a fail. maybe in ur eyes but not true for others.
7. software gimmicks. not a fail. the possibility to watch videos while using other apps looks awesome to me.
so really youre just full of it.

1. gpu is fine
2. couldnt care less, i thought the consensus was you can not tell at this resolution?
3. definitely does not need more than 1gb ram
4. quite like the design, but prefer my one x,
5. dont mind
6. dont mind
7. yes they are gimmicky, but dont detract from the phone.
You left out the biggest flop of all, that it is designed to look like gingerbread - this is a monumentally stupid mistake. For samsung's sake i hope they use roboto as the default font, cause right now it is damn ugly.
Roboto on the htc one x looks absolutely gorgeous in real lift, i can not understand why on earth they left this out
Comments?
You're too negative. No reasons given, just saying fail fail fail. According to that and using such a strong word, the S III would have to be a total disaster which it clearly will not be.
Not very convincing. For instance, 1 GB is good enough for now imho. Design is a matter of flavor but definitely not a fail.
No matter what, it's probably one of the most innovatives smartphone at the moment.
reaction across the board seems very negative, i actually like the design, and think it will look better in person, but i hate that they have not included roboto
the design is ewwww!
i was hoping for 2 GB RAM to run VMware on Android
everything else is okay
no penta band = big fail
Honestly, I am underwhelmed by this phone. I really dislike the design and I wanted a better camera....although I'm still using a Samsung Vibrant so I'm sure any phone that's out right now would be a vast improvement....still, I was hoping for something more. I might even change to a....dare I say it.....iPhone 5 :O
I was waiting for a full hd display;but the design is to beautifull and evething else is just fine to me;let's wait for the reviews...
The Hardware buttons on it look horrible. I'm glad I got the Galaxy Nexus back in December.
Well definitely disappointing (at least for me)..
After almost 3 years of using Android phones (Pulse, Galaxy S, Galaxy S2) 3 days ago I bought iPhone 4S.. I was thinking - what the hell I'll play with it for 2-3 months(always wanted to try it) at most, then I'll take Galaxy S3.. Now I don't think so..
Hope that HTC One X will not be only "phone of the year" and that will see soon some new great Android phone..
What is most disappointing for me is - Same camera (I had very, very bad experience with S2 camera), plastic, not that good display (for such big phone) and all in all - ugly..
Too bad..

Samsung SGS III...
So how many who said they cannot go smaller will do just that to get the SGS III?
I think it will be interesting to see if I will after enjoying this "phoneblet"
If the screen size of the G3 is around 4.7 inch or larger I will seriously consider it the purchase/upgrade. Anything below this size is to small for me.
I agree its a problem. any normal size screen is titchy! it wouls however be a real silema if apple released a 4.7" iphone 5!
Good thing hoqwver the note still has decent resale values. . The htc one x looks nice but note with ics will be better!

The SGS III has it all over the HTC.
http://www.knowyourmobile.com/comparisons/1293339/htc_one_x_vs_samsung_galaxy_s_iii_rumours.html
I don't see Apple in the picture for me at all. LOL...Too much Cuperton control. I would miss a lot more than the screen would make up for.
Smaller screen, no improvment in resolution/qualityt, no S-pen, a useless quadcore that only 1% of the games (gameloft ones) will use. 12Mpx camera that i dont need cause i already have a real camera (and a phone camera will never match a real one), nothing here can use NFC (in france).
Conclusion, i'm fine with my note.
It's not going to cast a shadow on the pure functionality of the g note.
Won't even be considering trading

I plan on getting the SGSIII just because!!! I had the SGS (sold), SGSII (still have) and Ive had a Nexus S (sold) and a Galaxy Nexus (still have) AND I have a Note and a GTAB 10.1...

Thats exactly the point! I noticed it as i went to a mobile store and played a bit with the nexus. For me, the working screen space on 4.7 " was significant smaller than on my Note. Before the SGN, i had an Dell Streak. Due to Dell used Monkeys to write the touchscreen driver and no devs wanted to hassle with the driver, the development stoped at Gingerbread at Beta. Streak has an 5 " Screen. I cant go on smaller size.
Actually my Note is running on 1,2 Ghz (ICS). My Device is speedy and functional. i cant imagine, that Quadcore would boost the daily phone or text experience that much. Games woud run quick as hell, hands down. but for my purposes, Note ist the best Device i ever owned and won´t get back on smaller screen.
No...
No I won't. I need to spend my money on other things and I love my Note too much already. :3

Nice! Wish I had that kind of money. I've owned almost every flag ship android device the past two years, but I always traded an had one at the time. Wish I could have them all still but the note is the best one so far. And I doubt that I am going to trade it for the GSIII. I love the screen size. We'll see when the SIII comes out. The One X also kinda turn me on.
I am not a frequent phone changer, had a n73 before note and won't be changing phone a couple of years. Hopefully there'll be more devices in the 5-6 inc range by then.
I'm not getting anymore Samsung devices after this because of one reason.

I also disliked the software buttons on my galaxy nexus. I am a big fan of the home button on the note though. Very nice.
I am not considering the Galaxy S III at all and the reason for that is the Note's abilities. The screen is perfectly sized and it supports the S-Pen, something that enhances the usability.
On the other hand, the S III is interesting since it will be an "early preview" of what Note II will offer since it is highly probable that the next Note will be based heavily on it.
Therefore, it will be possible to get an early impression of what the next Note will be.
Now with the 5.3" screen - going smaller is extremely hard. My old HD2 feels tiny in comparison.
What do you think of the galaxy s3
My opinion: only a better camera and processor than the GN.... so its a ****tty ugly phone.. this time you FAILED samsung!!!!!

I'm totally with you man!!!
I mean, samsung created the galaxy nexus! The most beatiful phone i have ever seen... then they make a s3? Most ugle phone i have ever seen!!!
Then the camera: same as the s2, so basicly the only thing bettee is the processor and a ugliee design...

I also think the GSIII is disgusting. I'm getting the Sprint Galaxy Nexus once this semester is over but I'm not a fan of the Galaxy Nexus' look or build quality either. I wish HTC would make the Nexus line. I loved my Nexus One.
I think they kinda dropped the ball on this one. Sure it has great specs and all but the design just turns me off, it looks too wide, and it reminds me of an egg. My eyes are set on the GNex still, same display, direct AOSP support, and one of the most beautiful designs of any smartphone. Maybe my opinion of it will change as time goes on but for right now it doesn't interest me much. Oh and Samsungs whole "inspired by nature" talk was so cheesy lol

samsung seriously delivered on the gs3, but with just a few critical errors
1. pentile screen.
IMO, idc if its pentile/non-pentile, as the 720p screen is more than enough, but a lot of people seem to think otherwise.
2. plastic finger-print magnet glossy casing does NOT looks premium.
3. back design.
4. 8mp camera. yea, megapixels arent everything, but a 12mp camera would have been MUCH better for marketing, as well as impressing more people on first glance
everything else if GALAXIES better then what the competitors offer.
still pleased with the s3
Demo was a joke, which completely sums it up with this device: a simple joke, that isn't even funny. Camera has pink hue, ****ty "S" branded gimmicks, plastic build, hardware buttons, 4x4 grid on 4.8" screen (hilarious gap), pentile display.
Lol haters. The gs3 is the biiizzisssss. Open up eyes dummys. Plus when is hits here it will most likely have a slight makeover.

what i like most about the gs3 is:
1. fast camera (rate of 3.3shots/second)
2. popup play
3. all the gesture functions
4. front design
5. camera face detection
6. smart stay
7. exynos quad
8. wireless charging
9. screen is 0.01ms response speed
10. 2100mah battery
the only reason you guys are dissapointed is the pentile, plastic, and placement of camera/speaker, but not looking at all the new features which honestly makes it much better then the one x.

Complete dissapointment, were still waiting for full support for dual cores. And Samsung decided to put a quad core exynos, when the dual was amazing. Also when is Samsung going to get the memo, not body wants cheap plastic maybe polycarbonate or something to that effect but HTC and Apple seem to be the only, ones who know how to build a sturdy phone. Maybe Sony and.Nokia aswell
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
Not a big surprise that this doesn't appeal to Nexus users. I'm not a fan either. That being said everything about that phone says "I'm for the masses" and the gnex, not so much. I think Samsung wanted to make a user friendly phone like the iphone. Steal away some customers from the crapple crowd. To be honest, this looks like it will grab some of those customers. We are not those customers. What I did find funny reading some blogs today was that people were complaining about it having Touchwiz on it. I hope no one here actually thought it wouldn't have that on it. The galaxy s has always been a phone for the masses and this falls right in line with that marketing strategy. Throw a ton of user friendly apps, that will all be available to us soon, make it bright and shiny, and have it come in some groovy colors, and bingo. Not to mention a nice size screen, not to big, not to small. Add to that all the cool kids are using Android now and people are becoming sick of the same old iphone year after year. This is a good play for Samsung. May look like garbage to a lot of us but it will sell very well to masses. Lastly I don't see us getting the quad here in the states. They have borked almost all the quads so far because of the radios here in the US so if you are saving your pennies for one of these because of the quad, don't count on it.
†††
It's so ugly, I can't believe that the editor form Cnet made a comparison with HTC One X and iPhone 4S. And this editor told us S3 got so attractive design. It's the best phone till now. Holy ****! Galaxy S3 totally can be define as a crap because of its ugly home button and back and the shape and the screen.
Hey guys i need your help urgently ! !
I am in a big trouble of buying a smartphone. My 2 choices are galaxy s3 and note.
these are the points that i like about each:-
galaxy s3:-
1.Best performance
2.Lots of added features
3.one of the best camera with burst mode too
4.Great battery life
5.WOLFSON
galaxy note:-
1.bigger better screen imo(its brightness is about 100 cd/m2 more than s3)
I know that s3's ppi is better but that mere 15ppi doesnt mean anything to me
2.Its by far much better looking than s3
3.spen
My main reason for loving the note more than the s3 is its SCREEN.Its sooo bigger and hence better for browsing, gaming, movies etc.
So here my maib questions are:-
1.Is the performance soo much better on s3 than note, specially the gpu?
because i love gaming and the gpu performance is what i need the most ! !
2.I heard and have seen that the ui of s3 so fluent that its now on par with iphone? Then how will be the ui of note?
3.how will be the browser comparision between s3 and note?
I am in hurry for gettibg one because in india we have some offer for note,in which samsung gives sennhieser headphone, flip cover,3000(60usd) games totally for free and this offer experies on 31st may.So what to choose?Even the note 2 will be launched in may be september,so is buying note good idea?
so plzzzzzz help meeeeeeee. . ... ...
thankx to all in advance....
Don't get note for now. I think you should get the best Samsung out there aka s3.
Sent from my HTC One X on Leedroid's ROM v5.1.0.
you should simply go for s3 , it beats note on all aspects except the screen size(if you like the bigger screen).
s3 packs the most powerful gpu for a mobile that are released so far.
Mate go for what you like at the end of the day, You're getting the phone for your needs. Just get the one you think is best suited for you ...
Ya all of you are right.I should be going for s3,but i think that the s3 is a bit narrow on the display front, isnt it? and may be thats why the resolution differ on both i.e 720p vs 800p?
BTW i am currently a s8500 user,i know the s3 will be the right jump for me but is the screen that too smaller than the note?
Personally, I'd go for the newer, better spec'd SIII over the Galaxy Note.

Well it's 0.5 inch smaller than the note. That means around 1.25cm in diagonal range. On a phone it's obvious if you put them next to each other but otherwise I think you will be really happy with S3's screen.
Also just to add to your first post regarding the specs... S3 has C-Pen, it's almost identical to note's S-Pen. Just so you know

I'm sorry but I really hate these types of responses. It doesn't offer the OP any real advice either way. He's asking specific questions about performance and quality and answers like this don't tell him anything.
Edit: OP, get the S3 and don't look back. It'll have much better dev support as well, being a flagship device.
Herp derp Captivate XDA Premium App.
Easy, get the Note now, enjoy that big ass screen. Then get the Note 2 and sell the old one.
I hope the Tmobile SGS Note comes with the S4 processor....
I had the Note and I'm planning to get the SIII. I think if you are a business or artistic kind of guy or use EverNote or have other uses for the wacom pen should be your main reason for getting it.

You can refer to these benchmarks for now, the Note will be slower, but for real world usage it fast enough to perform any mobile tasks, due to the dualcore Exynos at 1.4ghz. It has the same Mali GPU as the S3, you shouldn't miss out much on the gaming side. I'd say inevitably the S3 will perform faster for gaming, but I don't think will big enough of a difference to matter (besides the typical nerds bragging rights).
Games will still look nicer on the Note big screen. Another advantage with its large screen is if you use onscreen gamepads a lot, you have large area to move your thumbs so the controls seems to register better. It's decent enough that I can play a lot of 'classic' games without needing a physical controller. I think the S3 will be on par too though since its a big screen too.
(its brightness is about 100 cd/m2 more than s3)

Do not worry about screen brightness for either devices, both Note and S3 will be very bright with these AMOLED screens. The Note at 100% brightness is equivalent to staring at the Sun.

I don't have an SIII yet, so I don't know. As for the Note, if you have lots of stuff installed on a non-rooted Stock rom, there will be some lag in animation with touchwiz interface, but if you custom rom and use a lighter launcher, its smooth. It also have ICS now, so that might improve things.
3.how will be the browser comparision between s3 and note?

I don't know, I don't have the S3 yet, there are new software features and improvements with the S3. But large screen of the Note is a winner here obviously to me, text will be just a bit bigger, sometimes you don't even need to zoom in. It is possible that the S3 can render webpages faster, but I don't know.
Overall, it will be a hard choice, if depends on how much cheaper you can get a Note over the new S3, if you can save at least $200USD by getting the Note over the S3 than its a good deal. If you enjoy large screen estate go for Note, its easier for reading and watching HD movies on it is fantastic. It has excellent camera, great battery life (2500mAh, ICS as well, and better look (imo). If I was someone who already have a Nexus or Note (international), I would not upgrade to the S3, unless I have money to burn. I will get the S3 though since I always want to try the latest stuff and it has some interesting new software features that I don't think Samsung will port to older models because they want you to buy their latest phones.
Same "dilemma" except I have the Note.....I say BUY the Note USED.....try it then decide. You can't lose too much. I have never bought a new International device. Probably won't with the S3 either.
I love the Note's screen. In fact that is the reason I bought one. I still have a back up SGS2 but will sell that when I get the S3 and use the Note as a back up to our phones. The DAC is what tipped the scales for me. I had an iTouch mounted to my bike and had plugged in my earbuds to it when I went for longs rides. (and short ones) The Captiave, SGS2 and Note relagated my iTouch 4 to permant duty on my nightstand alarm where it inevr gets used as my phones also are my alarm clocks.......Be really nice to have some VooDoo Sound again. (Although VooDoo Louder came in handy on my bike.)
I am HOPING I won't miss the screen size of the Note and the trade offs for the many benefits the S3 has to offer in may other areas are worth it. Such as the ease of pocket carrying ( I LIKE the rounded corners LOL) , the many additional features, The Pen is something I do use and will use more since flashing to official ICS as it is virtually no lag anymore.
The SGS2 screen is too small for me anymore. I am not going back there. I think a slightly smaller screen will work better ergonomically.
I have no issue with using the phone with two hands although ICS now has "one hand mode" for the Note" where the keyboard and dialer are rendered smaller and moves to the left in effect giving on the same size as an S2 or iPhone.
Then the Note 2 may or may not come out if those using Note find the S3 covers all the bases well enough.

Guys i tried a lot for convincing myself to go for the s3,but my heart doesnt allow me for that Its still crying for the 5.3 inch hd samoled
So plz tel me how will be the gaming performance on both?
The main reason bothering much is now its the quadcore season so many apps will be made accordingly for the quadcores......So can i still be able to play those highly graphich demanding games at a good fps on note?
Only the processor is the factor that is stopping me from getting galaxy note! !
I will go for GS3. But, I still have a soft corner for Note. I will suggest OP to wait for Note 2.
Here's my reasons -
I suspect (no insider information, purely connecting dots) Note 2 will have Exynos 5 SoC. I think Exynos 5 just went into mass production in Q2, and was never ready for being implemented into SGS3.
We definitely can expect incremental update in Note's screen. So, either it would be HD SAMOLED PLUS or something like a PenTile 1600 x 1000 resolution keeping the aspect ratio same as OG Note.
But the most important factor could be Samsung huge marketing and developer push for S Pen apps.
They now have a $ 4million prize money for Note and Tab apps. Just a month back they had another S Pen app contest.
http://www.smartappchallenge.com/eng/main.do
You could be getting much better Pen apps.
In either case, both phones will have great support and winner in their own respect.
The note has much more of a "tablet-esque" functionalities to it with handwriting recognition and such.
S3 has only standard android handset features plus the newly demoed items which are unrelated to a tablet style larger screen interface.
For me the question you need to be asking is "do i need tablet functionality and screen size more than i need processing/graphics power and the new added features in S3's touchwiz (smartstay, svoice etc)?"

My main reason for loving the note more than the s3 is its SCREEN.Its sooo bigger and hence better for browsing, gaming, movies etc.

Huh? I think the answer is clear which phone you want.
It would be extremely handy to have som release information on the next Note, now. I am considering getting that instead of the SGS 3. I have the SGS 2 and the only thing I miss is screen real estate. And lots of it
Which would you go with? I have a few people who are due for upgrade and they're unsure whether to go with the Note 2 or the S IV for AT&T... What does everyone think? Pros and cons of both.
S4 = 1080P = decision over.
Your question should be S4 or wait for N3.

The Galaxy S4 is just the better choice for me.
1. A lot more pocketable than the Note.
2. 1080p screen.
3. Pretty much anything can be used for screen input.(gloves, pencil, keys, screwdriver, etc...)
Those would be my big 3 reasons.
The display on the N2 is fine. It's achieves 1.073 arcminutes with "1" being the most the human eye can process at 12-15" away. Anything under 1 arcminute can't be resolved by the human eye. The SGS4 and One are probably about 0.66 arcminutes.
As for which to buy, unless you plan on using S Note/S Pen, the SGS4's a better choice. It's got newer more powerful h//w and a bunch of new features. A Note 3 is due out in fall and will have all the features of the SGS4 plus (if rumors are true) the Orb 360 camera, Octa/LTE with Qualcomm's new RF360 LTE radio that supports all 40 worldwide bands, and most likely a 5.9" display in the same size body as the N2. If you buy a SGS4 and take good care of it you should be able to get a decent price selling it as it should hold its value well. Then you can buy the N3 in the fall. I'm a heavy productivity user and won't buy a non-Note phone because of S Pen/S Note. But I think I'm like one of ten people that actually use those features and multiview.

What he said. Although I wouldn't stop at 1080p = decision over, it's more than that.
but yeah at this point it's either S4 or wait for note 3.
i would go with s4 or wait for note 3

But if you want more battery life (nearly all tests seem to proof that) and more daily usefull gimmicks (s-pen, multiscreen etc) then you should by a Note 2 for a lower price.
The size still matters

As said above ^^^^^^^^ I don't need no stinkin' daily gimmicks and always purchase a 2nd battery just in case so as not to worry n such.
It's already been said but:
1080p Screen - Awesome!, Especially with my eyes gettin' older....Lol
Android 4.2
13Mp Camera
More pocketable
Faster Processor
Can't wait - gonna hook it up when the time comes

S Pen and S Note are far from "stinkin' daily gimmicks." The problem is too many people buy or consider the N2 for the wrong reasons. I use S Pen and S Note heavily (like at least a dozen times a day) and bought the N2 because of my experience with them on the Note 10.1. And you need a display the size of the N2 in order to be able to ink on it. Some people bought/buy it over the SGS3 for the larger/better display and others bought it for Exynos/LTE. But S Note/S Pen are meant to be the driving features. So I get people not wanting or needing those features but they aren't who Samsung made the N2 for in the first place. There's nothing like the Note-series for people that "get it;" for those that don't, move along, there's nothing to see here. And when the N3 comes out it’ll do more than the SGS4 and be Octa/LTE and a whole new cycle of people buying it for the wrong reasons will start again. And to your point, Nexi purists think every phone that’s not AOSP is a “stinkin’ daily gimmick.” To each their own.
I wondered the same thing for a while,
even though the S4 improves over pretty much everything on the Note II the S-pen and the size do matter.
I decided to go with the S4, but the Note II is isn't in any way a bad phone, maybe it's just everything you need and more

only 1080p ? More pixels please for your old eyes. :silly:
Android 4.2 will be on both available.
8 vs 13 MP Cam on smartphones is really nearly the same for me. Except S4 Panorama Software feature.
pocketable? yes this one is a countable difference :victory:
Faster processor? Games?=maybe in 1-2 years a handfull games will profit? standard usage? I run Android 4.2.2 with Dualcore processor on 1,3 GHz lagfree! ?So for what?
You should change the title to Note 3 or S4. N2 v S4 doesn't really make much sense as N2 is still a last gen phablet. I'll get S4 over N3 anytime because the notes are too big for me. And I don't really need s pen so S4 pretty much perfect for me

I have only used dumb-phones until now and plan to get a smartphone.
I did a little surfing and found Adreno 320 is better than Mali 400 GPU and Qualcomm Snapdragons are better than Samsung Exynos, right?
But in real world they say Note 2 is considered better phone than Nexus 4. I don't understand this.
Different phones top in different benchmarks, and still some things like display quality are not considered in benchmarks i guess, right?
Now I haven't used any smartphone before, and the I would be using it for gaming or watching videos/movies only most of the time as I'm a student.
Which of these phones that I mentioned (all in 23-29,000 INR range) are better than others in reality?
Those who have used these phones or are techsavy might be able to guide me in making the right choice
Just found S3 in India has different specs than in US, Canada etc.
India: 1.4 Ghz Quad-core Exynos 4412,Mali-400,1GB
US: 1.5 Ghz Dual-core Snapdragon, Adreno 225,2GB
It really depends on your priorities.
You should take by consideration the battery capacity, camera, and other features.
Nexus 4 is not a champion in the last two, its camera relatively sucks, and the battery is not very impressive (for me it's pretty good actually). One of the main advantages of the Nexus 4 is the fast updates compared to other phones. Anything with quad-cores and 2 GB of RAM is more than enough.
HTC One X on the other hand is getting old, even though it has a great look, and a polished UI (Sense 5), and amazing sound (comes with beats audio, and believe me it does make a difference!)
GS3 is a champion, but is getting old too, and soon will run out of updates. Good camera though, and pretty fast.
Note 2 is full-featured, not really a phone though, pretty huge for a one, packs lots of great assets from S-Pen to better camera (than N4). I'd suggest you try it.
Xperia ZL is not a flagship like the others, but has a good look, and great specs. Don't expect fast updates from Sony though.
Note that all those phones are relatively recent, so you won't notice any big differences in the daily performance. And don't forget that you'll eventually buy a cover for your phone, so the size/design won't actually matter.
My advice? Go for the cheapest! you'll end up bricking it anyway if you stick around xda

This made me chuckle.. In all honesty I'd go for a nexus 4 there's not a reason not to go for it
think about it.. S3 is getting old and thus will stop being supported by newer android updates.. The note 2s downside is the size many people hate the size and its uncomfortable in the pocket put a case on it and its not only big but its bulky.
Sony has never had great support by android and usually gets left behind quite early after release... The nexus 4 shatters the s3 I had a s3 and its not on the level of the n4 and its obvious when using it.. Id say ur only choice is nexus 4 or note 2 between the phones listed.. IMO nexus 4 is one of the best phones out even right now.. Do some more research and you'll find your own choice :good:
Forgot about the HTC Onex.. HTC is a great manufacturer and makes top quality devices but it also doesn't compare with nexus 4.. My T-Mobile s2 was neck and neck with the htc Onex

forget one X. totally outdated, even xperia ZL others are way better in that range.
1st you have to decide what size you are comfortable with.
Phablet size - Note 2, G pro
Phone size - N4, S3(23k) - higher range, N5 (30k)
If you choose any of above you wont be making bad decision. All are good performer in real life with couple of adv and dis adv with all.
so 1st go to some store and actually hold and decide size phablet or phone later we can discuss choice among those
I love my nexus 4, faster than anything, google support, i bought this phone in nov 2013, quite expensive from flipkart at 24500 INR, but still satisfied, s3 looks like grand and all cheap models of samsung, samsung actually sucks with its touchwiz laggy utility, note 2 is so big, its actually not a phone it is a tab, nexus 4 is comparatively small in size yet powerful, looks great with a bumper cover, i have a white one, after a lot of research i bought this phone and its great
