Been booting cm7 off the same sd card for a long time, but now when booted from this card it refuses to scan for or connect on wifi. Wifi works fine when booting to stock as well as off an older clone of the boot system from another sd card. I had several force closes last night in xfinity mobile app I think might be responsible. Think I finally powered off during one of them.
I've tried numerous reboots, enable/disable wifi, removed the network, etc., no joy. Also tried booting to recovery on the sd card, hoping by clearing caches it would magically again start working.
Any suggestions to sucessfully reenable wifi on the main card?
On it I have titanium backups on the sdcard partition which I don't know how to access on my pc (i.e., without wifi) for purposes of copying and making available to another sd card. Best I can do is see the boot partition from a usb reader on my Windows XP USB reader.

Just connect your USB cable and choose to 'Turn on usb storage'. Your PC will see the SD media partition to copy the tibu backups.

Thanks, at least now I can now transfer over the titanium backups for apps and data, and other miscellaneous files from the sd card partition. Before I reformat the old card, do you know if/how I can capture the various wifi network ssids and pass keys I had?
Edit: Still would be good to know, but it turns out all my networks of interest are already on the older sd card.

I have two 16gb micro SD's and I've found a similar situation in both cards.
When I'm in usb data mode (either in Android or WM) files will NOT copy onto the SD card. It will show the file icon but there is no data there.
eg. I copy a song onto the memory card, I see the song name + icon on the card. Disconnect USB mode, and go to play the song... it's not there. The phone can't read it.
At the moment I've resorted to sticking my memory card into my N95 and copying data that way... so sad lol.
Any Suggestions/Ideas?
It could be that the data is not actually being written before you dismount. Make sure to properly stop the USB device. Its happend to me before. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

I had some similar problems, I ended up using micro sd in laptop to copy some files over. Or, I rebooted phone after sync and they were there.
Sorry if this is a n00b question... but I've been able to unmount and remount the SD card in my HD2, or connect it to my computer via USB (which unmounts it on the phone side), all while running Android from that same card.
I'm wondering if this is safe to do, or if the only "safe" method is shutting down Android and rebooting into Windows Mobile. After all, the 1GB data.img and the Android system are both kept on the card, so if it is unmounted, you'd think the system would crash or otherwise corrupt data...
Thanks.

I do think the system would crash or be corrupted because if all the files are running from the SD card and then it is removed, then all files would not be accessible causing the system to crash or even worse - corrupt data. Whenever run it from the SD card and connect it to my computer I use the app called "Dual Mount SD" which allows me to still access my SD card (from my phone), which means the android files on the SD card can still be accessed by the phone for the system to still run. I believe this way is the safest.
I read somewhere that someone removed it and nothing happened, but take it from someone who tried it: Do NOT remove the card from the phone when it's running android. and unless the developer specifically says that it's safe to connect his build through diskdrive mode do not connect it that way as well!
I'm using the above mentioned program and it works fine. Music and other media files will be recognized by the music app only after you rescan the card using any free tool available (search the net/market for a tool to rescan the card on android) and that's all you need
OK, something weird just started happening. For some reason, my Win 7 PC will not display the contents of my micro sd card when I connect my A500 to my pc. My pc recognizes the connection as soon as I plug it in, the dialog box asking if you want to open the folder comes up, all of the files on the internal sd partition are viewable, but when I click on the ext sd card it opens and nothing is displayed. I took the micro sd card out of the a500 and put it in a usb reader and everything was fine. All files were there and accessible. I even ran checkdisk on it and defragged it. I stuck it back in the a500, rebooted, and connected it to the pc and still nothing is displayed when I click on the sd card. This wouldn't be a big deal but now it makes it real difficult to move any files to my a500 from my pc. I have to copy it to internal memory and then move it to the ext sd using a file manager on the a500. If anyone knows of a solution please chime in.
My a500 is currently running a stock rooted 3.2.1 with all the latest updates installed.

I had similar problem to u except I only had internal storage showing on PC. You can try this - Remove micro sd put it in a usb reader and transfer any file to it, I just used an apk, put it back in tab, connect USB to PC, uncheck USB debugging and you should have access to both internal and external sd.
The weird thing is i'm sure i never had to disable USB debug before I could see external contents. In Device Manager under Portable Devices if USB debug is checked my tab shows up as "MTP" and will not show in win exp. If I uncheck it then it shows as "Acer ICONIA TAB A500" and I can access . Can anyone tell me if this is normal behaviour??? I'm running rooted stock 3.2.1/Win 7. thanks
I had similar problem with no external SD card display when I connected my tablet. Recently, I updated the Android SDK and all of a sudden, my PC displays the external SD card. I am currently using rooted Honeylicious 3.2.1 with the latest recovery RA 3.14

I'll try that, I am running the exact same thing. I have run several roms before going back to stock rooted and I believe the stock rooted was displaying it properly. I can't think of what might have changed on my computer but I will hunt down the android sdk and download it and see if that changes. I have tried several different drivers for the acer with no improvement.
Similar Issue
I have a similar issue. The Music folder doesn't show up, but all the other folders and files are available.
I noticed when I select properties of the sd card in windows explorer it says under file system: Generic Hierarchical. What the hell is that?? Shouldn't it say FAT32?? Also, up on the top or the windows explorer windows when you have details selected under view it has Name, type, size, track number, and artist as the headers. Luckily, I backed up the sd card the other day to my computer so I'm going to take the sd card out and format it and copy everything back and see if that fixes it.
Anybod work out how to fix it I am using stock 3.2.1 and contents of external sd not visable from pc. Internal sd shows contents no problem.
I Think this is a issue due to the original format of the sd card. I to had a similar issue.. I copied everything off the sd card into my pc to back it up.. then put the card into my android phone and formatted it.. Put card back in win7 pc copied files back to card then put it back in the tablet.. CONNECTED usb cable and all is well.. this was months ago. The issue started all at once for me as well. And i do know the card was originally formatted in my pc... This was talked about alot with flashing rom issues as well as not seeing card thru adb..
This is worth a try .. LET me know if it work or not..
Erica Renee.. the BLONDE ANDROID CHIC WATCHING OVER YOU..
no, didn't work for me erica - the weirdest thing is I can see everything fine from my win7 laptop but not on my win7 desktop - until I disable USB Debug then everything is fine??? I think my issue is drivers - i'm loathe to change them tho as it took forever to get ADB working successfully and not too much of a prob to disable USB debug - it would be nice if someone was able to come up with a definitive solution tho
acer uses mtd in order to sync your data. It also allows you the tablet to continue using the internal memory while allowing access to it at the same time. If you are to change it from mtd to a regular drive then the Acer sync will not work and you will lose access to the memory from the tablet while connected to PC.
I believe I read the sdcard slot was only there to allow you to copy items to the tablet. Maybe they changed it with a early update.
When it is in mtd mode the system does not see the memory directly. That is why you do not see fat32. Just Google mtd storage and you will understand.
I dont remove the SD card throughout the whole process of formating, imaging, and copying files over to it while it is in the Nook for installing CM7/CM9. I boot to internal Nook software and format the card through the Nook. Then I image it with the appropriate image. I resize it if necessary and copy the installation files over to it and then restart it. I do this because I have had problems unmounting it in the PC and then remounting it again to put files on it from the PC. If you need to add files to the boot parition later on, I just reboot to internal Nook and mount the SD card on PC through Nook software. Works great for me since I hated taking the card out all the time.
Yesterday I installed CM9 to a bootable sd card and my 2 biggest problems with this setup are: can't seem to get a usb hookup to a Windows PC working for either boot or sdcard, and can't get Adobe Flash to work. Anyone else?

Flash does not work yet on CM9. Dunno about the USB..I don't use it.
I am using a recent ICS nightly and have the same problem. It worked on an earlier install so this may be something with the current nightly. One work around is just to boot into stock nook and then connect.
Hey guys so I tried installing Icecream Tosti's ICS rom v0.6 but it after booting up I saw that the previous version (o.5) was still on the the phone and all my settings and stuff were still there. I had done a fresh install and was confused. So I tried again but it didn't work and when I tried formatting my sd card it wouldn't let me.
I have tried many different tools: Mini tool partition manager, easeus partition manager, hp sd card utility, panasonic sd card formatter, and windows disk management but I kept on getting the errors, can't format. I plugged in the sd card into the computer via a sd card reader and a usb sd reader and even tried different computers but the same error popped up.
Just recently I booted into the rom and plugged in the phone through the usb cable. When I formatted using some of the tools above it showed me the format process was completed, but when I unplugged the phone and rebooted the phone the sd card reverted back to its original state and the sd card was not erased.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it? or is my sd card completely gone. I feel like it is just locked and write protected but I don't know how to unlock it since there is no switch on the side. I will really appreciate. Thanks in advance.
