ICS OTA Stopped? - Acer Iconia A500

Hi,could someone confirm if Acer have decided to pull back the OTA update for is cos my device keeps telling me it's up to date. I'm in the UK,on stock 3.2.1 and never been rooted. This is beginning to look ridiculous now.

Have you installed the Acer Iconia Tab Update Enhancement from the Play Store? Some systems won't update unless you do.

Hi,
you're not alone here; Still on 3.2.1, and still waiting...
I reinstalled the acer update app nearly every day... without succes.
Picmania delivered me a UK model to Belgium... and my friends with belgian a500's have had their update last weekend... frustrating!!!
c'mon acer... speed up the distro of ICS

Me too.
Wonder what the common denominator is for those of us who have yet to receive the OTA update?

Same here. I bought my A500 in France a year ago.

I sent Acer UK an email yesterday about the ICS update issue and something the Rep mentioned in his reply baffled me. He said he could see I was out of warranty. Could that be a factor in getting an update? Cos if that's the case, then, I'll forget about buying devices off Acer. He also mentioned that I should get the latest Acer update Enhancement software and do an update check after. That process had been done over and over and still no luck. I'm fed up right now. Not even checking anymore
The reply to my email:
Discussion Thread ---------------------------------------------------------------Response Via Email(Krishna Kishore Kollabathula) - 04/05/2012 02.13 PM Dear Nas Dejai,
Thank you for contacting Acer UK.
We understand your concern.
We request you to follow the below weblink, which have the detailed information for the ICS update.

According to our records, the product is out of warranty.

htf can Google promise anything for a Acer product? I doubt that source has anything to do with acer product range or releases..
You need to get the releases from Acer and for iconia a500 specifically.. What Google does only relate to a possible release of the source code to the 3.1, not what 3rd parties choose to do.

Am I the only one who noticed his post said Acer Thailand? I don't think Thailand ranks very high on most developer's list of places to localize first and foremost given their relative position economy wise in the world and their language not being spoken the world over. I'm not saying the US, Europe and other places won't have to wait until July, but we might not have to either.

System Update 4.010.07

Is there anyone that knows about this update. I was doing my homework, and then it just popped up. Im normally not one who updates, I usually update right before the next update is released. But i know the Honeycomb is still buggy so i would be willing to update.

I even looked on here first, but didnt see anyone else with it.
Maybe its a region thing. If so im in New Orleans,La if that helps.

Was on WW.26 and OTA to WW.29 came up this morning.
Device Tracker now recognizes my SN as valid, so I think Unlocker should work now too.
I downgraded to DE.17 again (using Wolfs method) to get root but now there's no OTA to WW.26 coming up ( Maybee they save the last firmware state of the device beside our SN too.
Will try to manually update to WW.26 again and see if OTA to WW.29 comes up again.
If not, I think I'll unlock it too
Im confused....

No, unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty, but rooting won't because you can easily unroot.
wait, so what is there to rejoice about then? I dont get what the OP is talking about in this thread
Ever since the tablet was released, some people haven't been able to get OTA updates on stock, locked tablets, and entering the serial number in devicetracker.asus.com resulted in a message that the serial number was invalid. A lot of these same people tried to unlock their tablets but got a network error. The problem was that their serial numbers were not listed in Asus' database.
The OP is rejoicing because the previously-undocumented serials have finally been added to Asus' database, so now the people having problems, of which the OP was one, are now able to get OTA updates and to unlock their tablets.
Rejoice!

I have called them about 5 times now. I explain I'm not getting OTA's at all because I don't want them to use the unlock tool as an excuse not to help me. Jelly Bean coming VERY soon?

Hey guys, first post here...anyway - think the jelly bean update is coming for the RAZR i tonight or tomorrow - checked my phone for an update and it said "You cannot check for updates at this time, please try again later"..gave it a quick google and sure enough some other thread came up when there was a guy who couldn't update because Motorola were updating the OTA files. Probably just checking it and testing it out to make sure all is ok before we brick our phones haha, so I'm hoping it's coming our way soon.
I'm in Germany by the way, and I also bought my phone there (if that makes any difference).

When will the 4.2.2 update come over the air from Google?

I still haven't gotten an update even though I've been clicking "check now." Has anyone gotten the update over the air yet? I'm stock unrooted btw.

Yes they are currently being drip fed via OTA from Google. You either have to wait your turn, or manually install it.
It happens when it happens, be patient. I rarely ever wait for OTA updates and just get them manually, I've already installed and reinstalled this 4.2.2 like 5 times now on my N7 without issues.

Well, considering what I have installed was downloaded from Google's website I would say "Yep, it most certainly is."
It's the same exact file - someone that got the actual OTA update went back and looked at the log file made during the update and pulled the URL the actual archive came from (and the filename, obviously) and that is the file that a lot of us have manually installed.
So yes, it's exactly the same file.
In time we'll see a full 4.2.2 factory image and when that appears I'll most likely redo my N7 with that just because that's the kind of stuff I do sometimes.

4.1.2 to 4.2.2 - is it worth it?
Hi Forum friends.
I live in New Delhi, India & got my N7 from the US in Jan.
It came with 4.1.2; very soon it d/l the 4.2.1 OTA update & till now I've fobbed off the nagging reminders to install it, seeing all the issues that came with the update.
This morning when I turned the N7 on, I got the notification that the 4.2.2 update had been d/l & was prompted to install it.
My N7 is as it came - stock, unrooted- I understand being the lingo of the gurus in this area.
I am an old guy with no ambition to modify my N7; I just want to use it for what gives me pleasure- read/watch/acquire knowledge/communicate etc.
The only mod, if you can call it that, has been to d/l the NMI & watch movies off a pen drive, w/o going thru the bother of loading/deleting stuff via the USB cable; while on the subject, can anyone enlighten me why MX player won't read the srt file off the OTG/pendrive when it can do so when I transfer the folder containing the movie+ the srt file onto the tab via the usb cable? TIA
Qn - Am I better off with 4.1.2 or will 4.2.2 bring improvements w/o bestowing problems like 4.2.1 did - or is it too early to tell?
TIA & A Very Good Day to all.
Finally got the update over the air. I don't see much of as difference.

Hi, lucky you! I'm still waiting for 4.2.2 OTA.
Actually I've got zero problem with 4.2.1 so far and therefore can't comment on the issues people tell of. So 4.2.1 is for me perfectly fine. However just because there is an update I can't stop thinking when does it come to my device

I think almost all of the people are already on 4.2.2. If you can't wait, just sideload the update.
Why is that the downloadable updater's files are dated May 3, 2012? The same was true of the last update. Why wouldn't Google let the timestamps be whatever they were when they were went gold or were last updated? It's disconcerting to update with files dated 10 months ago for a brand new release.

I think the time stamp refers to JB in general and since 4.2.2 is still JB the stamp hasn't changed and will probly change when KLP is released, but this is only my theory.
