I was under the impression that the 3.0 kernel was a pretty core part of the ICS update. However, the 4.0.3 update still have the 2.6.39.4 kernel on my tablet.
Is this because the update has gone slightly wrong, or has Acer kept us on 2.6 for some reason (like some other manufacturers)?

So I have 2 iconias. One running stock + honeyvillian kernel, and one that I installed tabooney 3.2 with the 3.2 honeyvillian kernel. On the second, I decided that I didn't want to run 3.2 until the official came out for the a500 (not the 501)
So, I reinstalled stock 3.1 acer rom + stock kernel after doing full wipes. Ran the tab and decided to run the honeyvillian 3.1 kernel on top for OC in the system. I installed it and everything on my tab is backwards. I did a full wipe again, reinstalled the origanal kernel and worked fine. Reinstalled the oc kernel and then everything on the screen was fragged. Back to stock 3.1 kernel.
What gives and how can I fix this irritation? This is my wifes tab and she is not happy lol. Please exuse the noobness of this inquiry and all my spelling errors.
Thanks Guys
The problem lies within user not properly reading the info before proceeding... Considered yourself lucky that you didn't permanently damaged the device
here's the quote from RichardTrip Villain kernel thread:
"As of 3.0 this is only for Honeycomb 3.2"
If you're running HC 3.1 or 3.0.1 ... your kernel version have to be versions below 3.0 !
Yes, I understand that. I should clarify... using version 2.5 for HC 3.1. I looked well over the villian kernel which is why I am confused about my issues. I followed the procedure for the donwgrade on the rom and the kernel and am confused why I can't move to "v2.5" of the honeyvillian kernel without issues. Am I just trying the wrong kernel? I can use the wrong kernel all day and switch back to the stock kernel with no issue just cant move back to a 3.1 custom kernel without issue. I can run the 3.2 a501 rom + honey villian kernel with no issue and re downgrade to 3.1 w/stock kernel no issue but can't seem to get a 3.1 custom to work.

aNY new help?

I know our device runs on kernel version 2.6.32. But what all improvements benefits would we get if we were able to get kernel 2.6.35 or 3.0 working on our device ?? also is getting 3.0 working on our device much more difficult than getting android 4.0.3 working ???

I think the new kernel brings bug-
fixes and security patches.Porting it should be much less difficult then porting Android 4.0.3 but you really need someone like mercellusbe with a fair bit of lnowledge in C
I want to root my acer tablet because I'm tired of all of the garbage that is on the tablet. I want to know which ROM runs the smoothest on the A 500 and what roms people have used and why. Looking for 4.2 build.
I like LIGHTSPEED 4.8 the best, it's ICS and stripped DOWN. lots of bloatware taken out...IF you want to goto to JELLYBEAN 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 beta 3, you can try those..but as far as i know ACER A500 NEVER put out past ICS, so a JB rom is ANOTHER Tablet BASED ROM, it will work, but not made spacifically for acer, has other programs on it.. either way won't hurt. You'll have to have UNLOCKED ICS BOOTLoader for most of them...
LIGHTSPEED 4.8 has both kernels on it.. it checks for HC or ICS bootloader, then installs correct kernel (boot.img)
some info here on post #5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026591
some say manually install of bootloader is easier..so maybe manuallly install is better to try. instead of APX method.
If you use lightspeed 4.8 , on his page u can use OC kernel and goto 1504 MHZ, i use it and create my own newer ACER A500 based rom.
ROMS are here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1136
I'm sure there's a million other threads like this, but the Iconia development world moves too fast for me to keep up, and for those older threads to maintain relevance. So I'm wondering what the latest and greatest ROMs are for the Iconia A500, and better yet a good guide on how to get it going.
Here's what I have going on right now:
1. It's running stock ICS (4.0.3, image Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1) applied through the OTA update.
2. It is rooted.
3. It has stock recovery, stock everything besides being rooted.
I do have experience flashing ROMs on Androids, rooting, ClockWorkMod, ADB, etc. but I have never flashed anything on an Acer before. Ideally, I'd like to throw CWM on there and a (mostly stable) JellyBean ROM. Can anyone hook me up with some threads?
Thanks!
EDIT: You know, from the looks of it, that CUS1 kinda screams that something isn't stock. The only explanation I have is it changed when I rooted it.
In Developement section I noticed JB 4.2.1 beta3 is most current if your going on JB numbers (over 4.1.x) not all works (but is getting better each version), read thread
if you goto any JB ROM , it will based on another BASE... ACER A500 STOCK ROM only has gotten to 4.0.3 so far (NO JB)
A good MOD or addon, I like is "Google NOW by Civato MOD" it adds Google NOW to 4.0.3. (ICS)
Lightspeed 4.8 is a great ROM (older ICS 4.0.3 based) but nice how it is stripped of bloatware) and you can add OC kernel and have @ 1504 Mhz
Civato, has made a few ics 4.0.4 ICS roms with A700 mixed in, better screens, etc.
I Like sticking with STOCK Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1. It's the most current STOCK version.
Then I strip out a lot of Bloatware, add in Civato's Google NOW mod. another MOD AD Blocker (etc\"hosts" file)
I tried JB on Another based ROM, couldn't get into it, I'd try 4.2.1 in few weeks when more is working.
*** MOST important to get onto ICS UNLOCKED Bootloader, and before that, GET CPUID before u do any other CHANGES
Hope this has been helpful.
So... Where do I start? What software should I use? Do I fix the bootloader first or flash CWM, or what?
hi guys
has any of you managed to get their hands on kitkat on our n7, or somehow know is the kernel version still 3.1.10?
thanks, cheers
Kernel is still 3.1.10. (At least in the current non-official build released by PA)
