[Q] ICS: GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi Issues - Acer Iconia A500

I had many issues after the ICS update. I finally had to factory reset the tablet. It solved some issues, but several issues remain:
Seems to be solved:
- Unstable applications (flashing and crashing, including Gmail).
- Unstable folders (flashing, crashing and all icons on the desktop disappearing).
Unsolved:
- The GPS does not work (this is a new issue I had not noticed before; I am not sure if it is related to ICS, since I have not had my tablet for a long time and I had not tested location through the GPS; I have tested recommendations in forums, but they did not work).
- Wifi is unstable (the strength of the signal varies constantly; it disconnects; it does not connect automatically when I arrive at home and activate the device; this is a new issue since ICS).
- Bluetooth is unstable (it disconnects me regularly; I have to turn Bluetooth off and back on for the devices to connect again; this is a new issue since ICS).
Anyone else with similar issues? Any solutions?

To many questions here. Did someone else have it ? Etc. All I can do is tell you my experience. After prior update I lost root & didn't bother to re-root it. When I did the current update Wi-Fi was spotty but settled down after a few days & works fine now. GPS was really bad prior to this update now it's incredible & no other problems. Hope it all works out for you.

I too have the Bluetooth issue. Driving me batty. I had some wifi issue initially too, but after a few reboots they seem to have subsided.
GPS is working fine for me too, but I sure hope a Bluetooth fix comes soon.

Got ICS yesterday.
After install had crash every time on WIFI connect. Factory reset fixed the problem.

[Q] Certain pages do not load over wifi

I bought my A500 about a week ago, and for the most part it has been working fine except some minors bugs.
One thing however I find really weird is that when connected to my home wifi (this problem does NOT occur when connected to my HTC desire tether or my school network) certain pages do not load. I just don't get why most pages can load, while other ones do not....
Since I had problems updating, and just got update 1.139 after I registered my device with Acer a few minutes ago I thought it would be fixed in the update. However after testing it, I still have the same problem.
Pages I have found not to work: NBA.com, android market web page (the app works some times, but crash most of the time)
Worst of all ofcourse is that the system updates do not work either.
My router is a D-link 2730B, I tried different settings on it but no change.
Could this be a result of faulty hardware? I never thought this could be the case since tethering and school wifi works good, but I'm a bit confused now.. I can still return in within a few days, so would like to know what you guys think before I do.
Thanks in advance for your help

Newest 3.2 Update Ruined Wifi

Hey guys, the newest 3.2 update (not the first one but the second one that came out) messed up my Wifi and now I can't connect to it. I've turned off/one my roouter+modem, wifi on tablet, tablet itself, and re-added the network multiple times and nothing seems to work. What happens is that I add the network and it would try to connect and authenticate but then it just retries connecting again and then all the available wifi networks are gone. It's a mess. And it happened a few times where it would finally connect but then no webpage would open after a few minutes and the wifi bars on the bottom right turn from blue to grey. Wtf. How the hell can Samsumg mess up something like that? And no it's not my wifi since it works perfectly fine with alllll of my other devices.
I just had exactly the same problem. 3.2 was working fine for a couple of days for me but now has difficulty connecting and when it does connect doesn't seem to be able to reach the internet. No issues with other devices. Time for a custom ROM?
Had also issues with wifi and the latest stock 3.2. It went away with Task 6.1 and probably the other custom rom also.
And now it is all working again.
Strange but worrying.......
On the contrary the wifi is better now with me. I used to have wifi issues after the TW update. The first days with stock Android I dont remember a single day dropping my wifi connection, but after TW update I sometimes picked my Tab to see "no internet connection". After 3.2 update it is just always on. I am quite happy with this update. If I ever see a drop in connection it is %100 router related which sometimes confuses and tries to assign the same the IP address to 2 different devices.

Exchange / Wifi Issues

I know that there are problems with Exchange and such, but everything was working fine on my phone up until about 2 weeks ago. I have been running CM7 for quite some time and always left wifi on to connect at work and home. Never had any issues connecting to my Exchange account. Then I started to notice some connection issues with e-mails not coming in, etc. It was very random it seemed, sometimes on wifi, sometimes on 3G. So this weekend I decided to try installing CM7.2 and CM9 and maybe it would resolve my issues. Now I can get my phone to connect over 3G, but if I turn on wifi it will not connect, even after I turn wifi back off, until I reboot the phone. Not sure how to fix this problem, I enjoy using wifi quite a bit and it obviously keeps my data usage lower. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Currently running the latest CM9 beta.
Did you flash any kernel? Anyways try updating now the kernels are fixed today.

WiFi unstable

Hi,
Is anyone having an instability issue with WiFi connection? This happens at home and work, but my phone at times disconnects from WiFi. It also struggles to connect to "saved" WiFi at times. For example, I came home today, and it didn't connect to my home network, so i turned wifi off and on, and kept checking it, and it eventually connected. I'm on stock (never rooted this phone) 8.1, but I've had this problem even before updating to 8.1. If you have any suggestions to fix this issue, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you,
I haven't experienced that behavior. Did you try resetting your network settings? If that doesn't work I would do a full factory reset but if you do it's important to select the fresh start option in setup instead of restoring from a Google backup. The backup restores some system and app data and can easily restore whatever is causing your problem. Sometimes data gets corrupted and your phone needs a fresh start.
i have seen this issue. It only happens on my 5ghz network. When i connect to my 2.4ghz network it is stable.

Thank you for chiming in. This was driving me crazy. I'll try switching to 2.4 and see if it'll go away.

I'm having a similar issue where after the phone has slept for a while, the wifi basically doesn't respond anymore until I've turned the wifi fully off and back on. Signal shows fine even though no data flows. Happens both at home and my office. This wasn't an issue at all since owning the phone through all the betas. Only started happening with official Oreo release. Forgetting networks didn't work. I'm not willing to reset the whole device right now, too much to redo. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and has a solution.
I have one phone that sort of logs off. It says "tap to login" it is a google dialogue. It is on my home WiFi at 2.4GHZ. I will be doing a reset within a week to see if it fixes things...
I am doing my Hard Factory Reset now....wish us all luck.
8.1 Oreo broke my Essential, I want it back...
More to come...
Mine was doing that as well, after resetting my router no connection issues.
HARD Factory Reset
Well, it's done.
It has to be done and done as hard as possible. No reinstating ANY previous software settings of any kind.
I linked to my WiFi (non 5G) after reboot, and there has since been no issue.
This doesn't mean the problem has been solved. Days may pass before it surfaces again...
In the meantime, Telus, who provides me this service has stated that an in store test of device should show whether or not this is a warranty issue. Connection to an in-store WiFi should show quickly if it's a firmware issue, and a discussion can begin about device exchange.
That's all for now.
Good luck.

No issues at home or work connected to an N router at home and an AC router system at work. Also no issues connecting to various public WiFi nodes.
I second elkay, same exact problem I'm experiencing. I may consider a hard reset on my phone soon, in hopes that it resolves the issue. Otherwise, I will continue running on my mobile network. Hope an official solution or fix comes soon.
Unfortunately, even a hard reset didn't fix it for me. I did end up buying a new router a couple days ago which does seem to have fixed the issue in my home (was buying a new one due to wifi coverage in corners of the house anyway), but that obviously won't solve the issue at work. Not sure where the incompatibility is. FWIW, I went from a Netgear R7000 to an R7800. Both running DD-WRT with same configuration.
I had this issue with a new PH-1 that updated to 8.1. I was not able to connect to an 802.11n router with cloaked SSID without difficulty, when saved, amidst several other issues, that I attributed to the 8.1 update. I downgraded to 7.1.1 and the wifi issue is resolved.
I just got an Essential Phone during the prime day deals and was experiencing the same issues. Download at 20mb/s for a couple of seconds then tank to 0.2mb/s.
Has anyone tried the latest Android P beta 3? It seems to have fixed my wifi throttling.
My phone was doing OK until a recent update. Now my phone disconnects and reconnects WiFi like crazy. Sometimes a dozen times in a few minutes. This is driving me crazy.
If you do not have Pie on your device load it.
I had serious WiFi connection problems on the last Oreo update but when I got the Pie update they disappeared and the phone has been fine since.
I'm on Pie and I still have this problem where the wifi will drop randomly every minute or two, but sometimes it's fine.
That's bizarre.... I had the one horrible Oreo update (as did a lot of others reporting in here) but since Pie it's been ok. I have both 2.4 and 5Ghz here but usually run on 2.4 as my router is in the next room and 5Ghz doesn't get through the walls nearly as well.

Data and app issues over WiFi connections.

Hi fellas,
I got a p10+ 2 had no issue so far. However since b366 I have issues with usage on WiFi. Google search works ok, some apps works sometimes, majority of apps only works on 4G.
Internet connection is stable, all other devices got no issues whatsoever in our household.
Also noticed when I switch off WiFi mobile data get switched off automatically.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue?
