Battery life experience on ICS - Galaxy S I9000 General

I get Gingerbread drain overnight at about ~1% per hour maximum. No excuses anymore to stay on GB for "better" battery life. I hope this thread will allow others to achieve similar results.
This is on CM9 nightly 04-27 with devil kernel 0.77 and Nova Launcher.
I obtained this by optimizing system settings so the system uses as little battery, and using BetterBatteryStats to reduce unnecessary wakelocks. I also deleted all unneeded system apps. I've read through a couple of threads similar to this one, and this one. But I don't go to the extreme and put airplane mode at night. Just general smart phone usage I use my phone for.
I've put each setting in system with in mind to optimize battery life. This means no active sync, no Google Backup, short screen-off time, reduced brightness, UMTS only, 2G only (hardly use data as I have wifi at work and at home), no location services, rotation off and much more.
I also went through all the apps I have installed, to see if they cause any unneccesary wake locks. Superuser for one checks for outdated su binary, and creates logs. For me it's unneeded, and it uses system resource, so I disable them.
This battery cycle is with medium usage. 2 hours screen on time. Had a few phone calls, downloaded a few large files through Wifi, and had unnoticed BLN notification twice which causes my system to not sleep/drain battery more quick
The drop off at the end is 10 hours of battery statistics lost because of lock-up of system, because I re-enabled Wifi.
Here's a cycle with light usage, just usual checking of news apps, whatsapping and messing with phone, Wifi always on (even in advanced settings). 1 1/2 hour screen on time. Only difference in setting I disabled BLN, I also set a static wallpaper instead of moving wallpaper.
First @ 56% (yesterday)
BBS @ 56%
And today @39%:
With light usage I now get +3 days of usage. I'm baffled, and never expected this on ICS.
Devil specific kernel settings:
I don't use selective OC, but Ï have set Wifi to PM_MAX (better batterie life)
Here's the text from the settings I use in NStools. My system is really fast and snappy when I use it.

And I've recently applied the same settings to my girlfriend her SGS2 with CM9, and Siyah kernel, and her battery life has never been better as well. She was amazed, she never had this battery life on Gingerbread.
Drained battery with 4 hours screen on time:
With her usage she'd normally get 1 day maximum of battery life.
Anyone else shares this battery experience with me?
PS. And I haven't even tried inverted apps to display black instead of white, and I've yet to find a modem which gives me good reception at home in urban area, where I should get green signal. (Green signal in screenshots is when I am at work, it's denser urban area)
I also haven't even applied any tweaks to build.prop to save even more battery.
Neither was I on Devil 0.79,which has even more powersaving options then 0.77.

Nice elaboration.
Yet I must object to a few points.
First off, you have to loosen up a little. Deleting unneeded apps, ok, but disabling sync, not using 3g etc... That doesn' t sound pretty smartphoney, does it?
Second, yes, battery life is great, yet deep sleep has nothing to do with it. Deep sleep (or deep idle, or didle) is only effective if you listen to music on your phone a lot. Its implications on battery life in daily normal usage are next to none. Mind you, less than none.
I never turn off my Wi - Fi or sync, brightness is at 60 percent, and i get an average of half an hour of talks a day, including viber talks, and i can still sqeeze two days of average battery life. Devil kernel has never been good for battery life for me, I see it as performance oriented.
My setup is the Tiramisu 1.9.5 rom,
MNICS 202LR kernel overclocked to 1128,
and the ZSJPG modem.
Just my two cents.
Cheers!

On another note, everything on thos topic is pretty vague, because about 80% of the battery usage really comes down to the user and his usage of the phone, it's very individual.
On a third note, I presume we both don't live in an post-apocalyptic environment, where power sockets are as rare as smart politicians are today.
So if you can get by the day with your phone needs fulfilled, charge your phone.
Oh yes, and moving wallpaper is enabled and i use BLN.

My battery life is just like realy bad i think. whit just 2 and a half hour, battery dropped to 78 . i got only 30 minutes screen and 5 minutes of radio on. anny suggestions how i can improve? Im on latest CM9 nightly and MNICS-202CM9 kernel

My battery life on ICS is just awesome! it's better the GB.. at least for me.

I m still confused i tried every thing remove all of the system app i use only 2g no Maps i use to watch movies and music and i even changed my battery with new one 2 days back. i haven't seen much improvement from GB i still get a maximum of 10 hours (no mobile data or WiFi with just Music) and 5.5 hours(either WiFi or Mobile Data with Social Apps and Music) on ICS(Slim edition) without putting a charger
Note: no Talk time during these sessions

You are wrong about deep idle. Your phone still has other processes running in background, other than you listen to music

i did read them and i did alot of those things. i just kept the settings i needed. but my battery life is still worse. i don't think its the rom or kernel to becouse in the forums of them people got great battery life whit rom and kernel. I don't know what to do

my screen is on lowest brightness all the time btw.

Use betterbatterystats to find why ur phone doesnt sleep. Looks ok in your stats until your first time screen on. Something keeping your phone awake and drain battery.

I already did but for i can see, it's only a few little things like audioout , activitymanager-launch mediascanner..... . Could it be whatsapp thet couses it? since i get notifications like every 5 minutes or something?

anyone?

I've tried team icssgs but didn't have it long enough to really judge the battery life, but at the moment I'm using Slim ICS with semaphore1.1.1s and the Im down to 50% battery and it's been on for over 12 hours. Admittedly light usage but still pretty good considering with stock GB i got roughly 7 or 8 hours and it was gone.

I think most of the 4.0.4 ROMs last longer than most Gingerbread ones.

Battery Life Stories

Hello,
I have been following these forums for a couple months now, and wow I am impressed. I love this community. I feel like I haven't contributed yet, so I started this thread. Below are my phone specs and my battery success. If this helps you, great! If you can contribute to this thread with your success, please do. If a similar thread is around, let me know; I don't want to take up extra space if I don't need to. My primary goal is for people to share their specs, usage, and battery life with Android. I had my brightness on high and 3g, GPS, and sync on (things you would normally want on all day). Peace!
Specs:
Leo - T-Mobile version
SD - 16GB class 4 (not sure brand, doesn't say)
Radio - 2.12.50.02_2
ROM - 28/7/10 Elegancia V 1.0 Final, Max Sense (T-Mobile version, if there is a difference?)
Android- 03/08/10 shubCRAFT CM6RC2/Froyo/Themed V1.1
Kernel - Cotulla 2.6.32.9#103
Info:
Unplugged at 07:30 am with 100%
Immediately checked email/XDA app for any updates (yep, I'm lame)
Standby for about an hour
Music/web browsing on Train to work (30 min)
Standby for 3 hours
Video playback during break (20 min)
Standby for 5 hours
Music/web browsing on Train home (30 min)
Home for about 3 hours with mix of standby/web browsing
9:10 pm - 15% warning (close to 15 hrs)
I stopped at 15%, because that is my "safety zone" for normal usage.
Anyone else care to share similar stories?
Before sleep yesterday, i have 97% battery, but when i wake up today, the battery left 47% :S 6hours drain 50% battery life only in stanby!!
when i checked background for what was running, Nothing..... maybe the android's screen is off, just it's not really sleep..
Hey guys, it's totaly normal, the actual HD2-Android roms are RC's, these problems will get fixed, just be patient.
My battery expirience:
8:30 - took from charging at 97% and went to work
normal use @ work (sms, googletalk, twitter and facebook)
15:00 - 15% warning
its about half the time from my windows rom, i think at current state of development it ist totaly OK.
And if you use SetCPU you can get a 1% discharge per hour in standby mode, if set up correctly
And what Waldemotor said, it's still in development.
Powermanagment isn't fully functioning, yet.
patience young grasshopper
5:40pm 100% when leaving work, started listening to music
5:55pm Standby for train ride
6:45pm Listening to music
7pm: Stopped listening to music
7-10pm: bit of xda app, checking my ps3 friends to decide whether to play MW2, showed the kids a couple of games
10pm-7am: Standby
7:40am-7:55 - Music before train
7:55-8:45 - Standby
8:45-9am Music
And here I am 09:35 and I have 30% battery left.

I'm with Darkstone Froyo 1.1 and i sync:
Gmail (push)
Exchange Mail, Calendar Contacts) every hour
Facebook every 2h
Twitter every 2h
I use SetCpu set to 245/245 profile screen off and 998/245 standard profile
I also Use
Juice Defender (paid version from market) :
With this i can plan usage of WIFI/3G :
- U can choose from push up to 5mn every 2h, i don't plan
- U can disable during night my night is from 22h to 7h
- disable if battery under 15%
- enable when i use choosed application in a list form exmple email, browser ... (keep disable elsewhere)
- U can choose automatically enable when screen is ON i don't : i prefer enable with application
Note: it's possible to control CPU too but i don't .. i think setcpu is better
- Wifi may be auto disabled when there's no access point near u
Estrong Task manager
- With this i kill all application except a choosen list when screen is off
GPS is always Disabled
With theses applications and settings i can get:
0% lost during night
and during day, my battery life depends on how much i use applications with 3G or Wifi and ... over all how much i phone
Note :
I've same conf on my Htc Hero ... (Android 2.1 hect sense) my battery life is almost 3 days
With HD2 desire V5 results are not so good
So i recommend :
Darkstone Froyo 1.1 (waiting for next build)
Wirh SetCPU, Juicedefender (paid version on market), and Estrong task manager
JuiceDefender has a free version but wiyh less options but u can try it
U can control battery JuicePlotter : it draws a graph for ur battery consumption and temperature telling u if wifi or APN were enabled.
Hope my contribution will be useful for some people

Went to work with a full 100% battery, did a bit of webbrowsing and texting. It was down to 30% within about three hours.
But I'm not fussed. As it's been said, it's still in its infancy. I've done nothing to try and amend it (SetCPU etc). I just have everything running on default settings.
When things drop so far though, I just switch back to Windows if I'm not near a charger.
My 2 cents on the matter
I own an HD2 since last Friday, I think. I found out that it can run Android and I wanted to test it. I spent an entire day with the Android. I started with a full battery, but I browsed the market, installed a lot of applications, listened to some music, even played a few avi files. The battery is drained faster than on WinMobile, but just like it was pointed out here, Android is still in development. The main idea is that I used it a lot and the battery was almost drained in 9 hours (I also stop around 15% too). I used Darkstone Froyo 2.1 build (Dan1j3ls Froyo V1).
- zImage 3/8, Dan1j3ls Froyo V1 (without Sense)
- setCPU enabled (always ondemand between 245 - 998)
- Yesterday 7 am - unplugged with 100 %
- Sync enabled with 3G over the day, some web browsing and playing around all day, measuring
- *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone info -> Menu -> set frequency band to Euro band, afterwards the constant 2G/3G flapping disappeared, switch to 2G only happens, when no more 3G available
- 11:30 pm went to bed, disabled Data overnight -> 50% left.
- Woke up this morning 8 am with several alarms ringing -> still 41% battery left.
With little usage good two days possible!

I left mine at 98% before going to bed and 8 hours later (yes, I slept that long) there was 78% left...
I'm on MattC's build, German Vodafone Stock Rom (1.72...) and 2.10.._2 Radio.
SetCPU activ and Exchange checking for mails every hour...
However, I'm not sure if 20% or 2,5% per hour is good or bad
u can globally underclock ur cpu for better effect, I run mine at 80% clock (main profile)
Im now on my 3rd day of using mattc v1.4.
1st day battery life was SHOCKING (as to be 'expected' (can you expect a shock???) for a RC running off an SD card).
I probably got about 4 hours heavy use from 100% to 10%.
2nd day I set up SetCPU with profiles for 'screen off' and <25% battery, disabled all data except wifi, disabled gps (tried juice defender but didnt find it useful as I never really use mobile data anyways). LEFT SCREEN AT 100% BRIGHTNESS!
This ^^^ helped with battery drain a lot and stopped the huge drain i was getting while the phone/screen was asleep.
BUT on day 2 I got a WEIRD problem:
Tried to set a pattern for unlocking - Put phone to sleep and rewoke to test lock.
The screen came on almost all white with my home screen barely visible underneath the white 'vail'.
I shutdown android and booted into WM6.5.x.
THE WEIRD THING IS THAT BEFORE THE 'CRASH' MY BATTERY SHOWED 49% BUT AFTER A REBOOT IT SHOWED 14%!
Multiple restarts into winmo and android still showed 14%/13%! WTF? I had to start charging again from there.
Now the HD2 wont charge past 91% (in android), untested in WM. I unplugged the USB and replugged numerous times - still wouldnt charge past 91%.
Left on charge overnight (android) and still at 91 this morning.
Been using it quite heavily ~3 hrs on and ~1 in standby today with lots of wifi and batt has gone from 91 to 76%.
ONLY LOSING 0.5 PER HOUR in standby now.
So basically, my battery is going nuts lol.
But so far I'm more than happy with it (considering it running from sd etc etc).
To all devs working on android builds - THANK YOU and keep up the good work.
Anyone else had any battery anomolies like mine?
I also experienced wrong loading behaviour, or maybe it's just the percentage showing wrong.
The following helped for me: Reboot into Windows Mobile, there the battery loading status was display correctly as 100% (also with the status LED glowing green constantly). Then with loading cable still plugged in, boot Android, then in Android the percentage reading was correct again.
really offtopic but anyone care to share how do you choose what to run in the background and what not? I use the task killer app but I kill the apps and they just reapear without me starting them.
thanks for sharing brothers!
can anyone comment on the battery life/consumption with this latest kernal and 384+ RAM ?
im using zimage 08/03 right now with Darkstone froyo v1 and my battery life is pretttty bad...
it will go from "93%" (full, it wont charge over), to about 25% in 4.5 hours..
and this is making NO phone calls and on standby. I have setCPU with the settings from the other thread too
just trying to figure out a good solution
I'm using the CM6 froyo.
Without setcpu and without the Aug 3 zimage, my battery drain was about 12% an hour on standby.
Now, with the Aug3 zimage and setcpu, I have about 6% battery drain per hour on standby.
Win mo: stock Tmo-US ROM. 2.08 radio. (both stock). 16GB class 2 MicroSD.
I always make sure I charge when phone is either off, or in winmo. I never charge the battery on android. I don't yet trust the android kernel enough to charge my battery correctly.
5%/h in standby problem

Yes.
Not matter what I do, and whatever distribution I'm using there is huge battery drain in stanby mode (~5%/h). I changed ROM, radio, android version (mattc, darkstone, ...). Even used winmo registry tricks.
HD2 (eu), ROM Energy, checked mattc v1.5, shubCRAFT 1.3, NexusLeo v1, ...
But there was a time I had very good results - like 1%/h in standby. Do not know what changed (except changing Android ditribution very often). The other users (a lots of them) has 1-1,5%/h in standby mode, so I'm sure it is possible. There is some kind of setting/mistake or something to discover. For now Android (even running form SD) is capable to have as good "battery results" as winmo.
I will try
- charging in winmo only
- sd format or using another microsd card
- clean Android (without data and additional software)

same case for me as little usage (sync email few times a day manually, play few songs for kids, little browsing and market). 2 days with batteryminder. ~ 50% since last charged 1 day ago.
The one that making real different for me is when I used GSM auto (PRL) (in *#*#4636#*#*).
Also auto turn to airplane mode 11:30pm-7:00am for me.
I also applied the sdcard registry changes in winmo. seems this will take some effect also.

The solution was to
1. I did battery calibration (not sure this task was really necessery) and checked winmo battery drain - to make sure battery is not broken by Android. No, it didn't
2. Charge battery to fulll on WinMo (or turned phone off), boot Android then remove /data/system/batterystats.bin .
Use this commands from Android Terminal (free).
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
Click to collapse
3. Restart Android (in that moment I had expected 1%/h drain) and use battery till it come empty
Thats all.
Propably, after many android switches (new distribution tests) the battery stats was broken - collected partially in different Android version.
Then finally, after 1 week with 5%/h battery drain problem in standby I have 1%/h in standby again. I think it is standard drain in haret.exe version.

Awesom Battery life X10. Post yours too!

For Battery improvements I did the following. Please point out if there are any improvements left undone by me.
1.Display set to 4% brightness using Battery booster app.
2.Screen time out 15 sec/30 sec depending on activity.
3.All auto-sync disables (i dont need them currently)
4.Network mode set to GSM only (disabled edge using wifi)
5.killing unused tasks couple of times.
cell standby(GSM) -33% - 1day 9 hr 10 min
display - 29% - 3 hr 40m
phone idle - 25% - 1 day 5 h 26m
wi-fi - 7% - 2h 6m
android system - 3%
voice calls -0.xx % - 4min
total up time 33 hours 10 mins during this session + previous day uptime 5 hours = Total 38 Hours up time
with 22% battery left
(did normal usage like websurfing few pages on wifi, installed 5-8 apps from the market, few mins of gaming , few mins of youtube , some 150 text messages, few Video playbacks for 10 min )
I'm really enjoying this awesom device from SE.
Previously been a victim of Nokia's cheap strategies and products , a couple of times but now i feel like i'm back to heaven with this device. Thank God!
3 days 23 hours to date best, without all the jiggery pokery
any custom roms out there that give a massive boost to battery and performance?
I suppose long standby battery life is pretty cool but it is a smartphone and personally, very impressed with thy battery life on my x10 with what I consider heavy usage;
Autosync on all the time with my Google account so I never lose my contacts and calendar ever again
3g also always on but when I get home from work until next morning WiFi on, that's about 12hrs
Auto brightness on, using tasker for automated 100% brightness on videos and games
K9mail for push email - receive and read about 10 to 15 of them a day
1 to 2 hours of web surfing
Half an hour of music
Above usage lasts me about 16~20hrs and about 15~20% battery life left, how's that?
x10 a+root+jit
I consider myself a pretty heavy user, not sure how long my battery would last as it is charged overnight.
It comes off charge at 7am and will last until 9pm with usually around 25% remaining.
Tbh I don't put much effort into conserving battery since 2.1, it is already fine. The only change I make is nothing updates automatically, I do it when I need it done.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
6. uninstall moxior using titanuim backup.
7.disable time scape.
8.don't use Live Wallpaper (Use regular wallpaper).
9. use real player or vplayer instead of media scape.
then you can go up to 2 days with normal use.
and with (Games - GPS - wifi - media) ... around 14 hours.
the X10 has awesome battry but the poor programmed apps and high graphical use apps kills it.
If you guys are so worried about battery life why did you get a smartphone
If you have to turn off all its features just to get it to last longer I don't see the point of owning a smartphone... just saying
As long as it lasts me through a day with everything running so that I can charge it when I get back home I'm fine... and it does that
Even using live wall papers I receive a solid ass two days with WiFi and GPS/location services fully enabled (I have a 6 gig data plan and try killing it as much as possible lol). I use it pretty heavily too. A few hours of straight internet radio or on board music, watch some videos over VLC, lots of browsing and tons of texting throughout the day.
I do kill tasks if I've run a ****load of programs and have a few suspect ones that may drain the battery before I put my phone away for a few hours. But lately I've not killed tasks and it's almost exactly the same to my surprise. Last charge might have even been longer despite not killing tasks too!
I use Titanium to uninstall all the useless crap and have JIT enabled.

Why should anyone uninstall Moxier? In my tests I've seen that if I don't configure it, it will not impact on battery life.
However, I'm running with GMail and Moxier both in push mode on 3G network and I get about 36 hours.
I've uninstalled moxier, not to save battery but to save memory, and improve boot time..

i don't use it and it keeps auto-lunch it self so that's annoying .
anyway i delete the unused apps to increase space and speed in general.
i use smart phones for movies , games and GPS . most of the time so the battry life is too much important to me. i didn't active the 3G internet in my smartphone it costs alot.

What ROM are you using ? ... What are the other settings and apps you have been using to get that statistics ? ... anyone tried underclocking the CPU ?? ...
i don't recomend downclocking the CPU.
it makes the x10 too slow and laggy.
after 15 Hours.. down to 56%.. would get 2 full days out of this.. (I usually put it into flight mode at bed time). Wifi set to always on..

Being able to undervolt the processor would be awesome. It's a common practice in the laptop world, and a must do if you plan on using the laptop a lot relying on the battery only.
My solution to all this! Just charge it every night, so you don't have to worry about having juice the next day when you are out and about...

[Q] Serious Trouble about Battery Life

Yes, it's really official , my battery life is draining like hell... I actually hope that's a battery problem or a rom problem so i could fix it cheaply, but if it is about the phone , i'm messed up .
so here it goes, i've got that htc hero i've bought from a friend so im not entirely sure if the battery is well, at least it was when it came on my hands. I had the official rom, and i cant be sure how many time did it spend without charging because i did change immediately the ROM . Now i have froydvillain 1.7.2 installed and i can say that i putted my phone on charge before i went to bed, when i woke up there was 15% gone from the battery, not so bad, i guess.. the worse became after. i did the usually stuff with it, texting, one or two calls not so much, always not using wi-fi, bluetooth or anything like that at all. not listening to music... when i arrived home there was been 16 h and 20 min and the battery was totally off. when i checked up which program was affecting battery most, and it was the screen and it was taxed as 51% of utilisation, i dont know why , there was just 1 h and 30 min of using it, and i can say the my brightness settings are automatic. Im really getting crazy, i also turned of 3g, only using 2g now to save battery, what a mess here guys. any help ?????
Model - HTC Hero
Android Version - 2.2.1
Radio - 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14
Kernel - 2.6.29.6-flykernel-12a
ROM - FroydVillain 1.7.2
I have installed elelinux 6.2.0 wifi always on if not connected to 3g.screen at 8% !no bluetooth,no gps...just 2 calls, whattsapp texting and surfing during the day.100% at 8 am 50% at least in the evening.try this.as far as i know there is no memory effect with these batteries.
Try my settings or delete apps that work in the background.
Hope this helps

Battery Calibration
Hi there,
I have 1.7.2 also and I get approx 2 days of battery life before it hits 15%. Light usage though. My display usage always seems to be approx 30-50% overall so don't worry about that just yet.
What i think you need to do is calibrate the battery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Battery_Calibration
Do that and once you are on full charge, before you turn on your phone boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
Should be all good .
Also are you running any overclock? 352-576 is more than okay and should help with battery life... Most people run it on smartass but I get screen wake-up issues with it so run it on-demand.
Give that a go then if that doesn't work come back and ask some of the smarter people for some advice as thats about all i know about battery issues.
i had setcpu installed with some settings, i already uninstalled it, i believe the settings were switched off , thats what i hope..
anyway , my battery is fully charged in 2 hours, is it normal ? it could be cracked, perfectly normal i guess. sometimes when im connected to wi-fi , it starts decreasing the battery level and i watch it lol, 71 , 70 , 69.... thats really strange in due that i see people using 2 days or 3 with normal usage. i believe that's nothing about the rom, im going to do that , im going to calibrate and wipe, text u as soon as possible to tell u the results
9unk, should i use the setcpu with those setting to save battery, im order to obligate te phone to use those settings, or should i just let it default ?
How did this survive in /dev
Also check any background processes.
My hero sometimes just drains like hell untill restart it (as I haven't found out which app yet) .
i believe there are no background apps , but if there is , how could i close it ?
Try calibrating your battery. VillainRom have a guide on it in their guides section.

i just want to note something, here you say you are fully charge in 2 hours, thats strange, mine are 4-5hours charge before its full.
in my experience with all is ON, i got 14 hours of battery life, this what i turn on:
- 3G Data is always on, no time schedule, it on all the time.
- Mail (3 account) and Gmail (1 account), (always on, with 15mnt refresh freq)
- Gtalk and Yahoo messenger (always on, cant live w/o it)
- LauncherPro Friends Widget (Facebook and Twitter, always on, with 15mnt refresh freq)
- Weather with Fancy Widget (always on, with 1hour refresh freq)
- Battery Widget
- Game NFS Shift 3D (15mnt a day, is a must, very love the game)
- Browsing (average 2 hours a day)
- and other normal process and background process (network location, contact sync, etc)
can you describe what is you use in your phone and please detail how much hours you get with your hero??
Mine was also draining like a hell , but i let it switch off for one day and now it works great . try that might it will help you
I had similar problems. Very frustrating indeed, but easily corrected.
Calibrate your battery using the above thread. Usually this takes a while, but sounds like it will be quick for you. Follow it closely and carefully.
Install setcpu and start with a conservative governor at 576/176. That alone should give you a day between charges. Play with these settings until you find something you're comfortable with.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
about the screen, i have 5 screens, one has the calendar with my schedule dates, other has youtube and music app, the main one has beautiful widgets that only update 3 in 3 hours, the other has people widget and last one has just power control widget. I believe this is not too much, for instance i already calibrated my battery and look at my stats today :
Activity time : around 17h
apps tha use battery most :
display 41% (45m e 25s);
inactivity of the phone 18% ( 15h e 30 min )
inactived phone 16% (14h e 44 min )
Media Server 11% (14min e 53 s)
the best of this is when im texting there is nothing about the battery when i start to listen to music i can watch my battery drainly constantly, like 59,58,57 per minute sensivily. is there anyway that my battery is cracked or something ? or is just my settings ? i believe i have set all up to save power, i also set up my screen to minimum stats. another thing that i might let clear is that my phone really charges all up from 0 to 100 in 2 hours, really strange that sometime it stucks on 77 for instance other times is draining and draining and it kills me watching other people using 2 days battery with more apps than me
i dont know if this is important or not , my battery drains 6 % on rebooting , dont know if it is normal or not, but im totally sure , aint normal to got all the battery drain in 17 hours with normal using... please i appreciate any kind of help
If you had calibrated your battery, and if you already had uninstalled all the apps that drain your battery quickly, but still no improvements, I suggest you to try the following things:
_ Change rom (I had a lot of problems too with battery life on FroydVillain, I personally recommend Elelinux 6.2 RC, I got an amazing battery life)
_ Make sure you have Update your Radio to the latest version:
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...adio-Roms-Download-Links&highlight=hero+radio
_ Try different Kernels, if you are currently overclocking your Phone, I use flykernel 12a, but the 11c is excellent as well for battery life
_ Use sometimes, not set it automatically, some task killer like Advanced task Killer Froyo from the market, to kill sometimes too many running apps.
Make sure to flash the new rom when your battery is full, then recalibrate it again like other suggest you already on this thread.
I personally notice that, when you calibrate your battery, takes a week or more to see improvements on the battery life, so be patient!
Its good as well to restart your new rom fews times to reach the full potential...
Then, when you set up your rom for the first time DISABLE google backup, I've been told that drains battery like hell, don't set the brightness on automatic mode, but just leave it as less as you can, it will helps.
It would be better also to go to setting, under sync, and leave on the automatic sync mode only for the apps that you really need to run..
If none of this will work, if you have can, I would think to buy a new battery, I checked in an official HTC store once and I found it at 30 pounds...
I don't think I have anymore suggestions, I hope it will help you...

To close an app or clear cache or data go to:
settings>applications>manage applications>running>
and choose the apps you want to close..
I found a major battery killer is an area with no reception.
So if I know I'll be there a while, I'll put my phone on airplane mode to stop it constantly scanning for a signal.
Today i really noticed something strange about battery, i let it charge when it was off. Ive turnee it on, browsed over the internet and it was stuck at 100 % for 30 minutes, than it decreased for 96 in 5 min..
i went to sleep ( turned wifi off ) 6 hours later it was in 77 % ;( and the best part, i reboot it and it get in 51 someone got a help

use cpu spy to see if the phone is not entering deep sleep mode.
use better battery stats to check which app is consuming more power. link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Go power master is a good tool for reducing the consumption by setting profiles.
Go Launcher Ex has good customization as well as running apps indicator in the app drawer where apps can be closed selectively / collectively.
use battery monitor widget pro to check the drain (better than the stock battery indicator)
Using Maps-Latitude , facebook app, fring mobile voip etc can drain the juice to a great extent.
Juice defender app has a good track record & would come in handy for better battery performance.
Above mentioned steps are for non rooted users.
Best if you can root the device. By this way you can use a good custom rom & a custom kernel combination to get good battery life.
Use Titanium Backup or similar to freeze Wi-fi sharing and Wi-fi sharing manager (by TempusFudgeIt)
After flashing a new rom, charge the battery to full on power off. When @ 100% remove the battery & wait for 2 minutes & reinsert & restart the phone. Said to be good for better stats in the first cycle. (by Kr$na) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209087
use your Note when needed (dont check the time every minute etc)! This will help the system to get "deep sleep". (by mR.fR34ky)
Turn off automatic brightness ( use Stock brightness adjustment or alternatively use widgetsoid widget / Brightness control / Brightness level / Screen filter app with custom screen brightness % button) (by mR.fR34ky)

Here is a standby test I did a few months ago. I didn't follow all that , and my Note managed 8 days 8 hours and some when it hit the 30% mark.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473692
It all depends on how much you keep the screen on.
yes, true. I only have about 3 hours screen on time from my 3+ days of usage. Also, this is the first battery cycle after flashing the new speedmod kernel. Dev was somewhat halted in speedmod but is active now with some great offering. Had been a great fan of Hardcore's work from the s2 days.
Does changing screen mode save battery ?
LOL... Disabled everything??? Then why do we need a monster beast like this???? What is the use of sacrificing all these wonderful features for saving battery??? Buy a cheap one with no features stated above... There is a phone with 15 days battery backup in samsung. No offense. Just a thought.

Actualy i have to agree with you XD carrying it around without using it better off with a smaller thing dont you think ?
though each step he mentioned was true you can get long standby time if you don't use the screen meaning just dont take the phone out of your pocket, vibration eats battery too. i have almost 85% of the time the wifi connected and and browsing listening to music and downloading manage getting 14 hours with bluetooth GPS WiFi gamming a little and some calls i would say 15 minutes
i mean a massive battery just root and flash a worthy KERNEL anyhow you can also use setCPU and make the phone run at 200Mhz when screen off and run at 800 Mhz when battery fully charged infact nothing actually demands for more power than that i tested it and it flows.... plus when getting to 35% range use it at 500Mhz that way it saves works never hangs and for sure gets 14 hours of standby & usage.
I know this probably doesn't matter much as many usually replace the phone before the battery is dead but draining a lithium battery all the way down greatly takes away life. You should charge your battery every night as you are sleeping anyway. The depth of discharge takes life away from lithium. Deeper you go the less cycles you get. Take advantage of your sleep time and charge the phone.
A lithium that is only taken down to 50% can have up to 4 times as many cycles as one that is taken down to 10% every cycle.
I read somewhere that lithium batteries lost their lives trying to absorb last dose of charging.
There came that famous Ezekeel kernel.
Don't know much about it so I could be wrong too.

Exactly.. I'm using mobile phone for past 13 years.. Right from day one I charge my devices when I sleep (never mind it's completely drained or full) it'll be plugged to charger whole sleep time. I'm following this all the years and I have never changed a single battery of any device. To maintain life.. Do not let battery drain to its death. All the device have builtin circuits to cut off the charging when it's done so I never cared to switch off soon after full charge.
As REVERSIN suggest... To get a better Battery, mod your phone optimum with good kernel and rom..

I dropped the brightness by 20% (from 40 to 20%) and used Opera Mini instead of the stock browser and I went from around 4 hours screen time to 5.5!
Use Titanium Backup or similar to freeze Wi-fi sharing and Wi-fi sharing manager made a difference to my unit. Got an extra few hours a day.
Also freezing social hub helped.
It does not matter it last for 2 days or 10 days, but at lease last for 1 full days. I can charge the battery daily but I can't have my phone stop working some time in a day just because of battery.

It depends what your usage with the phone is like - everything I have read indicates that the longest continuous use you will get with the Note is around 6 hours - that is with the screen on all that time... (Not putting it into standby and then checking it seven days later to see if it has any juice )
I consistently get over a day and still have around 30-40% charge. My use would be:
1.5 hours video
15 minutes calls
30 minutes music
1.5 hours reading ebooks, emails, sms and browsing the internet
I'm pretty happy with that. Having the tether cable means I can charge the phone from my PC when in the office every second day.
i have followed some of the tips & i m getting 2-3 days. Thanx.
+1 for a sticky.
Good compilation of the details. Think this is good for a sticky.

There is a world of difference between having a phone with no features, and having a phone with features that you have turned off by default if you aren't using them. I have a car with lots of options in it and I don't leave the car running 24x7 with everything switched on.
for those with <1 day battery life, if you have used any of these methods to better your battery life, pls post them with some stats in the forum to help others !!!
Also, i will update the 1st post with suggestions from you (just to keep updated).

We pay for the features to use it when we need it.
I don't leave wifi/3g turned on at nights.
Nor do I need google+, facebook, twitter, google docs, google current auto-synchronizing when I'm asleep. Edge is enough to sync gmail.

Battery sometimes just crashing down

Hey there, I really have on problem with my N4 since I own it:
From time to time my battery drain just goes huge. For me it feels like that is everytime I go out and have my phone in my jeans pocket. So at some point I thought I would press the button to active the display all the time.. but thats not happening (according to GSAM Battery Monitor).
I had all 4.2.x stock ROMS + stock Kernel and also with Franco Kernel. I always had this problem from time to time.
Signal is there, there is no significant battery drain from any app. The % of each app is normal and I also dont use any app more than usually. I don't have new apps.. everything is like always. Still my battery goes from 100% to 0% withint ~ 6 hours (30 mins SOT).
Any ideas? My battery is at 47-50 Celsius, the cores go offline as they are supposed to. I tried reboots in between e.g. in case an app is bugging. But actually all apps are as usual :/
Thanks
@edit: it also happens when the phone is on my table.. i just had it with 17% left on my table, didnt touch it.. after 30 mins it was off because the battery was empty. wtf ?
The biggest battery suckers are radios and the screen. I turn off wifi, GPS and BT whenever I'm not using them. Keep a short timeout for the screen.
Unfortunately, six hours doesn't sound too far off from normal if you've got things running. I'd go through an entire battery cycle watching a 2-hour 1080p movie. Overnight, my battery dropped about 15% while only bluetooth and GSM were on. The N4 isn't really known for good battery life :\
BT is off. In general my battery holds up one day without any problems. But sometimes it goes down within a few hours and I dont know why.
Possibly a scheduled background service? Maybe Google Sync is pushing a whole bunch of data periodically?

Hmm no not really. Also, it would happen every day or in some interval. Not just on random days?
besides that I dont use any syncing and also it would be shown in the GSAM Battery Monitor or general battery usage ?
I dare not say I'm a professional in battery saving, but I did break the 8 hour SOT on N4(minimum brightness of course).
Let's see, I only use 2G, because I only need internet for Whatsapp, and I greenify every single other apps.
You might undervolted too much according to your signature. -200mv might reduce heat but consume 1.2-1.5x more battery than normal voltage, its hard to explain, but its the truth, try -150 then -100.
Since you're on Franco, reduce the vibration a little, as for scheduler, I personally prefer Deadline on 2048. Governor definitely interactive, and freqs at 1.2Ghz. Because personally I dare-say at 1.2 Ghz you can run most apps almost instantly.
Like the second post said, Off wifi, GPS and bluetooth. Under settings > location settings> one is GPS and another is google location, off both. And you might still even have NFC on? No idea in this.
Download an app called build.prop editor or kernel tuner.
Modify build.prop a little. Add in pm.sleep_mode=1 and change the value of wifi.supplicant_scan_interval to 600 or 900.
Disable auto brightness and fix to something you like but below 50% .
I am not on -200 anymore.. -100 all the time
i also use greenify for nearly all my apps.
GPS, BT is turned off, Wifi normally too (tasker is doing that, depening on GSM antenna reachable or not).
The other tips are really nice but should affect the battery drain THAT much ?
Thanks !
As a little update:
It seems like this only happens at certain locations ?!
E.g. at work.. everything disabled (wifi, BT, gps, etc) .. even Tasker is disabled incase it was bugging -> about 10% for 30 minutes.
I have full connection bar to my carrier.. what the hell is that ? Battery temps are normal, same apps running as I had running when I was at home. I don't even use the phone but as soon as I get to work and my phone gets a carrier signal, the battery graph shows a rapid drop.
19:34 - 61%
20:03 - 54%
20:20 - 48%
20:54 - 38%
21:20 - 31%
Battery sitting at 37 Celsius... why.. why why ? :S
Alright now I know when my battery is crashing:
as soon as I turn off and I connect to my carrier. but why? Normally it should be exactly the other way. When WiFi is on and connect, the battery drain should become higher.
But as soon as I leave a WiFi, my phone gets hot and looses A LOT of battery very quickly.
Any ideas ? I have full signal.. but in any case.. I have the same signal as I also when while connected to Wifi.
e.g. at home with wifi - good battery life. but as soon as I turn the wifi off -> battery loss !
