CM9 and V3 Bootloader, won't wake up - Acer Iconia A500

I have CM9 with the V3 bootloader and I'm loving it!
I have one issue and I was wondering if anyone else has come across this. When I lock the screen (tap the power button) then come back to it 5 minutes later I have to do a hard reset. It's like it's going to sleep and not coming back on. This isn't a CM9 issue I don't think because the official dump I flashed originally to get on ICS and the V3 bootloader had the same issue. Is it the bootloader? Is there a firmware update I missed by not using the official GEN1 update? Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: I used the Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1 update.zip to get onto ICS and it worked beautifully except for this issue. Should I reflash with one of the other ICS leaks for the GEN1?

Search for sod (sleep of death) and you will get a zillion hits...

CM9 isn't using the correct kernel? I thought they said they would no longer be providing a HC compatible kernel in their images.

[Q] K1 rooted 14_14 ROM

Hi
To be able to bypass the process of a flash to v13_13, open the backdoor, flash to 14_14 etc. can anyone point me to a rooted 14_14 rom?
In particular "K1_A301_14_14_120109_US"
Thanks
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-alpha-ideapad-k1-cwm-stock-rooted-rom-120109-build/
Although still in the alpha stage, I switched from using timmydean's rom to this one specifically so I could successfully run the 14_14 rom and keep my root. Nothing against timmydean and his work, this just worked easier and faster. Also this rom add cwm which is the only rom out currently that does this for the k1, from what I've seen.
Just reemeber that this is still just an alpha, so be sure to read the post fully. Hope this helps!
Thanks for posting the link Dueces99. I compiled the CWM and ROM that Deuces99 linked to. I just wanted to add that there is nothing alpha about the ROM, just CWM. The ROM is stock and rooted and has no bugs (Other than the ones the stock ROM has).
The reason I left the Alpha status is because backup/restore don't work in CWM, and there is currently no key combination to boot into recovery. You must boot to recovery using the included app/widget
Right, there is no physical key combo. associated to booting into Recovery, the rom atleast provides the means to boot into recovery (widget/app) which atleast leaves the option. I personally, have not had any issues at all with this rom, and love the fact that all the bloatware misc. 3rd party apps and some Lenovo apps were removed, which made the rom seem that much more responsive upon first boot IMO.
Glad to hear that was of some help to you, kinda surprised there hasnt been anyother spinoff roms from this, regardless of its released stage. Just how cut and dry it is with flashing the 2nd newest update with root, then simply flashing the 14_14 update through CWM and keeping root. That was my biggest hurdle following timmydean's guide (and still is) was keeping root once taking the update from Lenovo.
Just my 0.02
so all i need is to flash alpha 3 and latest update 120109 in order to be on a rooted 14_14 build? can someone confirm?

Correct. After that you will be up to date and rooted.
Right, confirming with khanning88 flashing alpha 3 would be the 13_13 update. After flashing that, reboot into recovery via the Reboot Recovery app/widget included in the ROM, follow the instructions from there provided by the rootzwiki post and you'll be good to go with the latest 14_14 update. By far, the most cut-n-dry rooted ROM out there as far as I know. IMHO kinda deceiving that the ROM is listed as an Alpha (for CWM understandably) only because it's been extremely stable for me with nada one FC.
Wierd how an alpha build ROM is more stable than the OS that the K1 comes with...

From what I understand, it's the same firmware as the stock Lenovo, so maybe a little bit of a placebo effect? The CWM ROM does take out all the built-in non-Google apps, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I hope Lenovo gets its act together and shares out the proper source code so that some good samaritan out there can build a stock Android ROM to run on the K1. I've been using it a bit on the 14_14 CWM firmware, and it's still not as good as the firmware I've experienced on the ASUS Transformer TF101 or the Acer Iconia A500. The biggest issue I've found with the Lenovo firmware is that there is a lag closing out of apps and going back to the launcher, sometimes to the point that a forceclose-wait window pops up. I've not experienced that on the Honeycomb ROMs of any of those other two devices, so I wonder if it's because of Lenovo's customizations to Honeycomb, like the ability to close apps from the multitasking sidebar. In that case, maybe a more vanilla version of Honeycomb won't have that problem. Don't get me wrong; I think it's a great feature that Lenovo added to the taskswitcher. But I'd rather not have it than have the operating system lag. I trust Android's memory management enough to not really need to go manually closing apps.
Right, im sure all the bloatware taken out from Lenovo had to have some effect on overall performance. As far as stability between the two, maybe I meant to say "Wierd how an alpha build ROM feels more stable than the OS that the K1 comes with..."
But placebo effect or not, I've experienced zero issues with this rom even though I probably don't do near as much as other K1 owners with their tab. Lenovo does need to fix this, or preferably just provide full source to all...

Thank you so much, khanning, for all of your efforts. As I mentioned in this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets/K1-not-booting-after-update/td-p/548285 , your CWM firmware is the only effective workaround at the moment for those of us whose K1's are inexplicably locking up with "unrecoverable bootloader" errors to get onto the latest firmware.
We still aren't completely out of the woods though. In post 44 of your rootzwiki thread http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-al...-120109-build/page__view__findpost__p__390175 and post 47 http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-al...-120109-build/page__view__findpost__p__392343 , the users kennethrkennedy and aig787 both confirm that the "unrecoverable bootloader error" can still come back with updates, even through your CWM recovery. With your Alpha3 and your 120109.zip update, you managed to avoid updating whatever it is that causes the "unrecoverable bootloader error." This is my long rambling plea that, whatever you did there, you will continue to do for the latest update you are working on, so that those of us with these K1's that are prone to the "unrecoverable bootloader errors" can join the fun too. Thanks!

[Q] SOD, really confused.

My A500 is experienceing the SOD! I was on the HC bootloader and FlexReaper v12 and not having any issues. I decided to upgrade to the ICS bootloader and FlexReaper RF1. I installed v5 of the unloacked ICS bootloader, and then flashed RF1, and now every time my tablet goes to sleep, it won't wake up. I tried flashing the stock kernel from civato's thread, but still has SOD's. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Is this a new SOD???? seems strange the new BL should do that - Is anyone else having the same problem - is there anything in the rom thread that may shed some light - have you done all your wipes, and reflashed again??? - what does ARI report your BL as, have you tried restoring a backup to v12 and see if the issue persists???
I ended up reverting to the HC (3.01) bootloader and RF1, and the SOD's have stopped. Must be my tablet really didn't like the new bootloader.

wow, i just read that , about the roll back solution.... worked for someone else having ICS BL issues...
did you happen to run a backup while you were there, for yr CPUID????
Would you list the steps you took to rollback??
What rom and BL you were on then and what you are on now...
Did u roll back to a stock rom or your own backup??
v3-v4 are both pretty good - i had 1.7.2 cwm running sweet on both -
and its the only one I've found that backs up your HC CPUID...
and thats the one u just gotta have...
unless you have a working fastboot......
At least yr sod has gone...phew!!
I followed the instructions here:

I was on v6 of the ICS unlocked bootloader and FlexReaper RF1. I am now on HC 3.01 bootloader and FlexReaper RF1. And no more SOD's!

I'm staying with the HC bootloader for now.
If you experience SoD even with ICS bootloader make sure to reinstall the kernel for ICS bootloader users. Its possible that for some reason you still got the modded kernel for the HC bootloader users on your tablet , that combined with ICS bootloader gives SoD.
i'll vouch for roll back

i'll vouch for this.....seems rolling back fixes quite a few of these weird BL issues.
I just rolled back to HC and then reinstalled ICS again - well, I dont know where I've been living lately, but I am truly amazed!!!! -
First I tried flashing the boot/recovery images from HC via fastboot, no go there...
Jumped to apx mode then nvflashed boot/recovery/system/ rebooted
bootloop, no recovery -
flashed official acer ics rom - no go
Wifi disconnects -
Tried hard reset - no go
used settings>factory reset - bingo!
No wifi issues, no bootloop
on signing in Google Restores Data
It restores to my last HC backup before i ug to ICS??
not what i've been using for the last 3 weeks....
My whole tab feels brand new
Everything looks amazing
I'm blown away...it rocks......amazing

I am getting a lot of SOD as well. Where does one get the kernel to re-flash? Or does the kernel flash with the bootloader?

I went back and tried all three ICS kernels, and they all gave me SOD's.
SoDs and kernels (FLEXREAPER-RF1_rv3)
I am on the ICS V6 multi bootloader and FLEXREAPER-RF1_rv3-CUSTOM-ICS, and have dual boot with the following two kernels:
- ICSbootloader_users-RF1-EXTREEM-TW3 op primary
- ICS_bootloader_users-RF1-GPS-TWEAK_2_1033 op secondary
Tweak 2 works fine, no SoD
Extreem TW3 gives me SoD with every deep sleep.
I also had random SoDs with ICSbootloader_users-RF1-GPS-TWEAK-1.033.00.
I have not yet tried the new OC kernel. Civato mentioned that he will include the SoD fixes included in Tweak 2 in future kernels, so I suppose it should be fine.

New ICS leak rom A500 1.054.00 WW_GEN1

Hi,
user paugustin posted a link to a new ICS leak ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28357252&postcount=630).
Someone has already tried it ?
I'm not rooted so I fear that if something goes wrong (boot loop, freeze, brick...) I cannot recover/unbrick my tablet...
Thanks.
Ok, I see that user civato has prepared new rooted rom 1.054.00 based (original and deodexed) this means that leak rom is working...
So I took courage and installed it and everything goes right, tablet is still working...
I don't see evident differences, nor speed increase...
In settings/info the items different are:
Image version: AV041_A500_RV17RC03_WW_GEN1
Build version: 1.054.00
Image P/N: FM.S14A0.01Y
Wipe or no wipe update?
It was like an ota update...no wipe.

Thank you for the heads up, as i was having problems with the first ICS update and i hope this will fix my problem, flash with out problem and so far working great, just waiting now to see if my screen problem happens again.
Oh yeah don't forget to rename the .zip file to update.zip and copy file to external sd card to flash, guess who forgot to do this.
Still 4.0.3 then?
Yes, same android and kernel versions.

Everything on home screens disappear only wallpaper on screen

Hello im have a problem where all my apps, shortcuts and UI randomly disappear or my screen and the only thing left is my wallpaper. The only way i resolve it is to go to settings/apps/launcher and force close it. It restarts but its just a temp fix cause randomly it happens again. I have tried Multiple Flexreaper,Thor, and Cm9 roms Multiple bootloaders and Kernals but it always comes back. I ALWAYS do a full wipe (by wiping everything even data) but after a while it comes back. Anyone know how to fix it or Any info would be great thanks
I can't help with a fix, but I can confirm that you are not the only one with this issue. I have three Acer tabs, One that's stock ICS A500 no root, one A500 with V3 bootloader and Flexreaper, and one stock rooted ICS with the V8 bootloader. All three do this same thing. The only way that I can get rid of the issue is to downgrade to the Honeycomb bootloader. If it was any more annoying I would go back to the Honeycomb bootloader and pretend to be a chicken while enjoying my nice solid user experience. I'm not sure how Acer bugged it up on this one. But as far as I can tell, it is an Acer ICS bootloader problem that carries over even if the bootloader is patched.
I've been trying to find a solution. So far, other than changing back to HCBL, nothing has worked. It's too bad that one of the Dev's can't see a tablet with this issue. Those guys can fix about anything...
Thak you for the info. Its good to know Im not the only one who has this problem. Do you think CM10 will fix it since its Jellybean?
I never experienced that issue...until I moved to Jelly Bean. It happened all the time on the first alpha port, but the latest cm10 is OK. I hasn't happen since. What launcher are you using?
I've tried a ton of launchers and it happens on them all. Also, it happens less frequently if I don't have a email widget on a home screen.
I'v also tried alot of launchers and they all do the same. Thanks for the email widget tip
Has there been any new developments on this issue and how to fix it?
I'm on hc bootloader and never have that problem. I am fully capable of flashing ICS bootloader, but have no interest in doing so. I see no clear advantage and hear nothing but problems. I'm running the newest TO Jelly Bean and it is practically flawless. Call me a chicken if you like, but I'm a happy chicken with a sweet tablet
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
It happens to me all the time with all the launchers I 've tried. I am in unlocked ics bootloader and stock rom. The same happened with the locked bootloader. I tried the CM10 Rom same results. I removed all widgets from the homescreen with no luck.
If it's in the ICS Bootloader then all must have the same problem or not?
Any solution except going back to 3.2?
To fix it I had to go full stock to Honey Comb then reinstall CWM then install Thor cm v15 and no problems since. I think the problem is the ICS bootloader

[Q] out of practice and need jelly bean advice

Hi xda
I am totally out of practice but really want a jelly bean update. I am running the last Taboonay vache did before he had to stop development, so i already have cwm running (version 1.3.4)
Is this just like usual? Grab a rom, boot cwm, wipe data dalvik and cache, flash new rom? Do i need to update cwm first?
And finally, what jelly bean rom (if any) should i go with? Looking for something nice and stable.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

noooooo lol you have to update your bootloader if your still on honeycomb i got the ota then got an unlocked bootloader after that install your recovery and your good honeycomb roms wont work ics bootloader though so beware
This thread has a guide on how to get from stock to a custom ROM, it also details how to unlock the bootloader.
In one of their updates, Acer updated the Iconia's bootloader (the part that starts up Android) and it is now necessary to install a patched version in order to install ICS/Jelly Bean ROMS. Feel free to ask more questions in that thread if you get stuck.
