try this
turn Tab off and then on again.
uninstall Kies
restart PC
install Kies
open Kies first
connect usb to MOTHERBOARD USB, not front panel or through a hub, go DIRECTLY to the MOTHERBOARD
wait for Kies to detect your Tab.
let me know what happens.

if you're using PC, motherboard usb is located behind of the CPU.
if you're using laptop, try all socket without using usb hub.
if you're using Mac, i don't know. never use it yet

This is the same message i had on the weekend. I disconnected and rebooted the tab, connected again and it worked.
You can also go to the kies install folder and run the USB driver install again to be sure that the correct drivers are in place.
What you want is any USB port that is directly connected to the mother board, usually all are, it is rare to see a hub on a PC, infact usually there is a spare one or two USB connectors that are not in use.

Ok thanks i'll retry it and report

Ok so i finally got the usb drivers to install properlly, via kies folder, but i am still having issues connecting tab to kies. I have rebooted my tab several times and still same problem, i have also ran the connection trouble shooting and still a no go. What else can i do for it to connect?
EDIT: the only way i can connect to kies is via the kies air app, that doesnt help if i want to update to ICS.

drivers
hi people i am new to this forum...well i have the same problems when i try to use the samsung kies for the same device (samsung galaxy tab 7.7) first because the kies have a lot of bugs, second because there is no drivers for this device.... u can try to find them and u are not going to find a compatible driver to conect via USB.... i am a software developer for android and the issue is because this device is not very known and is the first table that have cellphone utilitys ....
My recommendation is that use the kies but via wireless not by usb .... :cyclops:

You said Vista before, did you make sure you were running Kies as administrator ?
Driver wise Samsung have released drivers for the device, my 2 win 7 64bit machines have no problems connecting via Kies etc, just once I had the error and a reboot fixed it. I do however run Kies as administrator.
Also, Firmware for 7.7 should be over the air as well as Kies.

Just so you know, I just had the unable to start service issue on my laptop.
I disconnected the tablet, rebooted it and with Kies running in admin mode (right click run as administrator) it connected just fine.

I get same problem.
The usb driver is correctly installed. When my P6800 pluged, the "P6800" logo is displayed in "portable devices". And its driver is the samsung usb driver. "MTP connected" also shown in P6800 screen.
However my Kies always showing "connecting".
I am using Windows 7 64 bit. Tried uninstall and install, debug mode. Maybe I should try with a new pc now....

Kies recognizes my i815 apparently, but i get this window:
I assume its not supported :silly:

How can I flash modem or CWM w/o sd or odin

So I can't connect my phone to any Windows PC as it says: USB device not recognized.
I tried Samsung drivers for Galaxy S phones and for the Epic 4G from three different locations and Samsung Kies and I still can't the connection to my SD card to work.
Also Odin will not recognize the phone at all either on any PC.
That is fine I can still download things on my phone with Wireless Transfer Pro application, but how can I flash the modem or install CWM without any direct connection to the phone?
Right now I'm running CWM 2.5. I want to put 3.0.25 on it and then flash the ee03 baseband and then reinstall a ee03 ROM since the one I'm currently using is being flaky.

Yeah my windows firewall is off and antivirus (windows security essentials) process is gone.
I just need to know where to get the correct drivers so Odin will work. I do the 1+power key to get to the yellow logo screen but it won't detect the phone.
I already uninstalled anything samsung usb related in my add/remove programs.

Ok i'll try those. And yeah, I uninstalled everything from device manager and add/remove programs that relates to the phone.
So I installed those drivers, restarted my computer, turned off my phone and then pressed 1 + power to get to "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!!" screen, loaded up Odin, and plugged my micro USB cable in to phone and computer and it still gives the the error "USB device not recognized"
The cable used still charges my phone, do you think its a bad cable?

1. if you're using the factory Samsung cable, toss it and get a good cable.
2. If you still can't get any of the drivers to install or work properly (I couldn't either, I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit).. find and install PDAnet. Select Samsung, follow all instructions carefully during install. You can un-install it when you're done but this was the method that involved the least drinking to accomplish for me.
If this helps (or any members suggestion for that matter) remember to hit the thanks button.
Thanks guys. It turned out the original Samsung cable was bad. It could still charge but for whatever reason it could not connect to the phone's SD card over USB.

[Q] Accidentally OTA update on clockwork recovery, now no USB.

Nexus 7 is rooted and unlocked.
stupidly hit OK to OTA update, even though clockwork recovery was flashed. Didn't work out so well.
So now there no USB support. Doesn't show up in device manager, doesn't work with fastboot/adb.
Not sure how I can fix this. It seems like the best solution would be to flash a factory image, but I can't without fastboot.
I think maybe its an issue with the kernel, but I don't really know.
Tried searching for the last 3 hours, can't find anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks
After researching more, and trying all sorts of things, I'm starting to think its a problem with the boot loader.
Still same problem, with no usb being recognized anywhere, not sure how to proceed.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Same problem here, did you find a solution?
mine shows in Fastboot mode but not ADB mode....same kinda problem maybe??
have you tried a different usb cable? or if it works with another computer?
Think I might have solved my problem... have you checked USB Debugging is enabled on the tablet?
Mine wasn't and therefore ADB didn't see the device....
I know there are those who advocate manual steps but I just used one of the tool kits to solve this. But my tab was still being recognized by my computer so it was pretty easy. Just flashed root and Recovery in one step.

I cant´t get any USB Connection, even not reinstall the driver, because the Nexus is not shown in the Device Manager.
I tested different Cables on different PCs with no luck.
But OTG with stickmount still works, so i think it can´t be the USB-Port that´s damaged und must be some Software error.
I just flashed the Paranoiddroid in hope that it changes anything, but it did not.
ADB not working, no connection too.

Just speaking from my own experience....
With USB Debugging set to on, ADB recognises the device as does the Device Manager.
With USB Debugging set to Off, ADB doesn't see the device and neither does the Device Manager.
Only other thing I can think to do is to try a different USB lead and failing that, reinstall the Android SDK/Drivers

With USB Debugging OFF
As you can see the Nexus 7 is still listed as a portable device regardless of weather debuggin is on or off
the only difference is that with USB debugging off the ADB interface will not work
The only thing i can suggest to the OP is to try a Live Linux CD and pray that you can get it to recognize it in there, if you can then it is possible that you can reflash a completely stock image & bootloader
My Nexus is not recognized by Linux too.
So the problem is not the driver, it´s the tablet´s system.

Fastboot and adb are two different things and the device is identifying itself with different ids when connected to the PC. Adb over TCP/WIFI is possible (see http://anddisa.blogspot.de/2012/10/remote-debugging-over-tcpip.html, fastboot not.

You need to add the correct dbus-rules. Have a look at http://anddisa.blogspot.de/2012/10/nexus-7-mtp-automount-on-opensuse-114.html where you can extract the rule-devs you need.

Got it, thank you. So it´s not possible to flash the Stock image via WIFI - it´s necessary to be in fastboot-mode to do that? Or is there a way to activate the adb-WIFI-Connection in the fastboot-mode?
Is it possible to flash the Factory Image with the Clockwork-Recovery from SD-Card?
Or is there any other way to get back to stock without the need of an USB-Connection?
What version is our boot loader, did ota update also update this? If not you could try to flash this. You can download it from a thread in android dev section of the forum.

The newest boot loader that goes with android 4.1.2 is version 3.41. It is a cwm flash able zip called JZ054K boot loader which you can find in the android (not original) development section of the nexus 7 xda forum. In windows it can show up under various device groups depending on how your cpu feels, check them all. On Linux (at least in Ubuntu) you can only access it via fastboot and adb unless you modify some files in addition to the usb rules for your phone.

Use a high quality USB cord.
Plug it into a good USB port.
Try a different computer.
Uninstall drivers and install drivers and then restart phone and computer.
Put phone into debugging mode.

I just had my phone repaired under warranty by LG due to a bad USB daughterboard. The phone would charge no problem off of any USB port and with any cable, but it wouldn't sense data at all.
I tried stock, modified, manually set fastcharge off, and I did it on a computer that was originally working with the N4 as I rooted it from there.
Call them, they know of the issue. It was free for me, even though they said because I bought it used, it would cost $40-$100 to repair.

[Q] LG Optimus L3 usb not connecting but charging

Hello
My phone: LG E400
rom: SDmerge+ miniCM (not sure if the problem is connected with that as everything was fine at the beginning)
All of a sudden my phone didn't show usb connection any more. No connection is shown in the phone or PC, but the phone is charging.
I tried all usb connection options, usb debugging on/off, no result.
Uninstalled all phone drivers in my PC and reinstalled LG driver, nothing.
Tried another usb cable and another PC, the same problem.
Also tried turning off my phone while connected, no help.
Please help me.
Don't know if it helps but I once saw a strange message in Titanium backup while usb was connected (this was after the problem started, so no usb connection was shown, usb debugging was on). It only happened once, so I'm not 100% sure what it said but it was sth about that I should turn on usb debugging.

?
if you can then try to recovery mode flash new stock firmware
if not leave it because if anything happens to your cwm you will be stuck until you get usb port/controller (i think controller) repaired (yes its most likely hardware damage)
you could also ask if anyone will provide you with .img partition dumps and then adb wifi sideload them (HARD AND DANGEROUS)

No, LG support tool doesn't recognize it. I gave up on usb, just been using bt and wifi transfer (not the best solutions but at least I can transfer data).
But sth happened a few days ago. I plugged it in to my laptop for charging and suddenly it connected. It showed as device in the computer. But then I looked at my phone, it was connected as media device. I don't know why but I changed the connection to usb storage straigth away and lost the connection. Changing back to media device and replugging doesn't connect any more, it still charges.
What could that be about?

Those apps will not work in Zenfone 5. You have to root your device by using pc only. If you want then i can guide you how to root your zenfone 5 using pc.

Go to developer mode in settings and check android debugging is turned on or not? If it is turned off then turn it on and then connect it to your pc.

#1 Make sure that, you have the right drivers
The probability of this issue will be less if you are using a windows PC. Bcause almost all required drivers will be installed by windows once a new hardware is connected to it. You know, every hardware need some software part to install for the smooth working. We call it as drivers.. Make sure that, your PC automatically installs it. If your computer didn’t install it automatically, then you can manually download and install it directly from the ASUS website.
Download and install ASUS USB drivers for Windows
#2 Try all of your USB ports
I don’t know the technical reason behind this. I am writing this because, this issue had personally faced by me. I have windows 7 installed on my PC and my USB port behind the CPU won’t detect my zenfone. There is no issue with charging. The issue is only with the data transfer. But the USB port in-front of my CPU detects as well as charges my zenfone. So try changing the ports to all possible extend. If anyone knows why this happen, please comment below. It will be an add-on tip for me.
#3 Check whether you have turned on the MTP option
This is yet another option to check out. And this is the answer for the Balaji’s email just above. Many people accidentally un tick the MTP option when they connect mobile to PC via a USB. Then to activate it again, there is no direct USB options in your Zenfone. You may get messed up with this issue. Don’t worry here we have the solution. The USB options are available in your Settings>Storage. Follow the steps through the screenshot.
◦Go to Settings page of your zenfone.
◦Now select the storage option
◦There you can see a USB symbol on the top right corner. You need to click on that and put a tick mark against the MTP option. Check the below screenshot for clear understanding.
◦Once the MTP option is selected, your PC starts detecting your Zenfone 5 or zenfone whatever it is.

You will see a number saying device if it's connected.
