I wanted a 2.3 ROM for my X5 and I tried three stock ROMs including the last B528. I have two problems with these ROMs.
1. Unstable Wifi. It is always disconnecting in my university. It also shows only fair signal strength when other devices show good.
2. Hebrew support is missing. The fonts exist but Hebrew in SMS is shown as left-to-right while it is right-to-left script.
Is there any solution for these problems in stock ROM? If I need to install custom ROM, which one won't have two these issues?
B136 stock ROM has Hebrew support and more stable Wifi but I'd like to use 2.3 because its interface is more smooth.
I think you should try custom roms like Miui, aurora etc. Don't worry, flash custom roms.If you know what you're doing, there won't be any problem.Just backup before flashing
I'll try. I used custom ROM on my old hp iPaq handheld computer so I'm not afraid of custom ROMs.
Good luck then

Hi all,
I'm very new in the Android world, so please reply as if i'm a complete bastard
I've got a Galaxy Apollo (i5800), without simlock, running Android 2.1 from Samsung (original rom).
Now I read many thing about roms, jpm, jpf, jpg, jpw, jpz, jpb, etcetera etcetera. Now I really don't know what these terms mean.
The only thing I know, is that I would like to try a good custom rom, with easy installation. Do you guys know about a very user/beginner friendly rom?
And also, do I have to root my phone before I'm able to install a custom rom?
Sorry for my bad english and poor knowledge.
Thanks in advance for your reply

Hello, welcome to the android world!
jpm, jpm, etc are firmware builds of android 2.2 (froyo)
All custom roms have easy installation (with odin).
You dont have to root your phone before installing a rom!

What do you guys think about this rom? youtube.com/watch?v=NY1cySzOh0U
This rom is based on XXJPM.
Will it work on my i5800, currently firmware version: PDA:JG6 / PHONE:JG3 / CSC:JH2 (BSE), language: Dutch?
Will it be buggy, laggy? Will Samsung Kies still be able to detect my phone after flashing this rom?
And, when I don't like this rom, how easy will it be to get the stock firmware on it?
Last, but not least: is this rom going to drain the battery life of my phone?
Many thanks for the replies

You can't update with kies if you have a custom rom. you have to flash back
Thanks for the replies! I'm currently running Indroid 3.0, and it's working perfect!
It was very easy to install the custom rom, which I didn't expect.

Hy, i have also a question:
- If i flash with a custom rom/kernel can i then install official rom from Kies? Or it's irreversible?
Kies only works with official roms as far as I know...
If you flash a custom rom with odin, kies doesn't recognize the phone (and you can not install official rom from kies).
You can however flash an official rom with odin (rom from samfirmware).
- With the official rom kies also works again.
Thanks, i will be watting for the official rom for the 5801 and then i will install custom rom depending on the users feedback.
Has anyone else noticed differences in quality of signals between custom roms? I'm searching custom rom, with a best quality of signal and batterylife also should be long. If I understood right, there are several custom roms which are named by miui, and now I'm little confused that is there any difference between them? and also is there a list of all custom roms for u8800 with info? thanks

for me as far as roms are concerned, the only version which i came across with best battery life and good signal quality is MIUI Version: 1.12.9. this is 2.3 GB and .32 Kernal, the only bug in this is the wifi tethering doesn't work and a minor bug with the camera (Inverted image at the click) but in gallery it comes out as normal
Cyanogen is best in terms of no bugs but lack battery backup
Download Link for miui Version: 1.12.9 is
http://roms.miui.us/u8800/MIUI.us_u8800_1.12.9_MUL.zip
Eliterom miui is good on both counts, especially the galnet framework one. I am currently using Cyanogen mod 7.2 and it seems good on battery but reported signal can be a little variable, it works fine, but signal bars can seem a bit all over the place much like the default froyo rom.

That causes for me just boot loops. I have wiped all three and let phone to do boot loops 30 minutes. I have downloaded that two times and checked MD5sum and zip is correctly downloaded.
Can MIUI be flashed over any ROM or does it need official 2.3 like Aurora 4.0.3 ROM does?
Should I try to delete /system/data directory with rooted filemanager first on working ROM, as that is what I have read to help boot loop?
This is what I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152240

well I want...
improved functions
radio
longer battery life
no essential fails (like no haptic feedback or missing wifi ..etc like the official GB)
play games that froyo can't
i think you must try it one by one.
I would choose a .32 kernel based ROM, as they are still more stable at the moment. Oxygen by dzo would be my first choice
Which rom is stable and less bug?
i am newbie..
I Have Tried Lots Of ROM. I Can Say Best ROM It CM7 Till Now.
The first thing I did when I bought my phone summer last year, was root it and install a custom rom. Didn't even boot it to look at the stock set up first!
First rom I installed was Oxygen, and I have it say it worked great. Stable, fast, good battery life, and never had any problems.
Last month I decided I needed a change, not because there was anything wrong with Oxygen, but just because once in a while I like to play around with different roms.
Tried Aurora, and have to say it's great. Not quite as speedy as Oxygen and battery doesn't last as long, but pretty and damn stable, haven't had a crash yet.
Tried MIUI one afternoon, but not to my liking, too far from the Android experience imo.
Can't go wrong with either Oxygen or Aurora, depending on what you're looking for.
So far , I've tried out tytung's NexusHD2 ICS Rom (incredibly bad experience) and a few others , but I haven't seen any completely functional 4.x ROMs for the HD2.Most of them have a lot of bugs and I can't use Viber with them because the phone application crashes when I pick up the phone. So my question is this - is there any ROM based on 4.x that can match a 2.3 ROM in terms of performance and stability ?
I've been searching the forums for an answer but so far I haven't found one.I would be very grateful if someone could just point it out for me.
As far as I know, almost all HD2 ICS ROMs are fully functional (except for viber, it's a known issue).
And if you're having so many problems with tytung's ROMs, I don't know what else to recommend. (Not that this is the best, this is just the least buggy)
I have been using the SlimRom 8.0 on my HD2 since it came out and I have had the smoothest post-GingerBread experience with my phone.
Try it, I don't know about Viber because I don't use it.
I'm running it NativeSD on CLK with Extended TWRP.

Hi Murali,
The nature of mobile development is such as you have mentioned above. It doesn't work like windows or linux etc where you can install a generic OS on any system configuration by any manufacturer. The firmware has to be specifically built for your device. It takes great skill to port inter-device especially inter-manufacturer ROMs, so the fact that you actually have a bootable and semi functional SENSE ROM for a non HTC device itself is a big achievement. But it will never function on your Micromax phone like it does on an actual HTC phone. There are too many dependencies to counter. Also, there is a lot of closed source code that is not freely available to developers, especially with overlays like Sense and TouchWiz.
I would suggest you look for a good Custom ROM built on your phone's official firmware or wait for support from CyanogenMod, PA, Slim or such series to offer support to your device.
Sorry for the bad news, but I hope it helps.

It might. Then again, it might not. Changing kernels can make a huge difference in performance, both in a good and a bad way. There are too many variables to contend with, and without a strong active community behind your device, any answer I give you will be just guesswork and not based on facts. You can always try out a couple of compatible kernels and test out the difference.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
