Since NOW (samsung weather/news application) was released about two years ago i've always encountered a lot of problems. At the beginning I didn't care a lot, but as Mango was released, the problems started becoming worse and worse. Every, and i really mean EVERY, 2-3 weeks live tile stops working for 1 week at least than samsung updates the application (without a lot of success). This happened in october, december, february, march and nowadays.
Since 25/04/2012 live tile stopped completely working even if they updated NOW (2.11 version). I think that this application will never be fixed as it should ...what do you think? Am i right? Does your live tile work yet (almost impossible)?
Same issues. It's a shambolic app and I deleted it for good upon them breaking it again with this recent 2.11 update.
I use Microsoft's recently updated Weather app for instead. Only uses a single tile too.
Since the latest update my Live Tile has stopped working, and after installing the update I've found my phone to be switched off so now I've deleted it and the phone hasnt turned off since.
Wish I hadn't updated the App as the previous one worked fine for me and I quite liked the layout of the tile. Now using the Microsoft Weather App but I dont like it as much, maybe cos there's no colour and its just the same colour as everything else on the home screen.
I'm not going to use microsoft weather application because it's awful (as you said). I would suggest that you download "amazing weather" which is a lot better, but is costs 2€ (maybe 1,5£ or something like that). This one has got some "amazing" effects. However i think i'll wait for Samsung to update again "NOW" hoping this time the tile will work.
my lifetile actually never worked, so I am using weatherflow, because it is the one with the most beautiful tiles...

Hi ilboy, i had same problems and i was really upset too, but finally works again for me
I found the solution too. I had to clean and install again the application. But this does not change my opinion
works again for me too
I HATE THIS APP

third people from bologna (Italy) in a row
nice game!
warning!! warning!!! there's an update!!!
no fear, update went ok, apparently no issues now version 2.12.2.1
Actually, there IS an issue....live tile does not work anymore. I understood I had to clean and reinstall the application and it had been working for a week. Since the new update pushed out today it has stopped working again...
I agree.
I think that the NOW app is made by the mentally challenged at Sammy's HQ. How hard is to read properly a GPS API?
Live tile? if it rains directly over the screen.
Weather updated upon location? WHAT A JOKE.
It is the most useless OEM app I've ever seen...even WebOS has a better weather app...
loool, true, live tile stopped working for me too, just rebooting phone, why all the times?? :O

Hi all.
Ever since updating to the new ROM (Orange UK) I have been getting the com.htc.provider error message. Everyone is saying that this is because of Peep and Twitter but it is causing another problem for me: The weather on the clock widget is no longer showing. It displays the name of where I am but that is it. Around 10% of the time the weather is there but 90% it isn't.
I have tried wiping (factory reseting) the phone and re-installing the ROM but this doesn't help.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
I am Having the exact same problem with the weather since the update, but if i just choose the weather by itself, then that will update.
Yep, that's the problem alright.
Glad I am not the only one but I would prefer it if it wasn't happening at all!
I logged out of Peep and the problem as described disappeared....might be a coincidence however!
I am also seeing an issue sometimes with the HTC Weather widget not updating as regularly as before. With the v1 firmware it would update a few seconds after I moved to the Home screen it lives on, now it takes ages or does not update at all. You have to go to the Weather app and manually initiate an update.
Just (now) checked the widget and it updated immediately
I think the newest firmware (may be Orange related only) updates at longer intervals than with the 1st release.
A pain and IMHO as the weather in certain places can change quickly, and not how it should work.
I hope HTC don't think the v2 firmware is the final one they need to release.
BTW, not logged into Twitter via Settings but use Twidroid and log in via this.
Not had the .provider error message at all.
Well the weather bug on home screen happens because of the com.htc.provider error.
And since the com.htc.provider error comes from the Peep application and not Twitter you need to not use Peep until HTC releases an update.
A fast way to get the weather to work again is if you have saved your scene. then you just need to change to the normal HTC Scene and then back to your own again.
And regarding the latest release it will probably only be one of many since already in October it is rumored that the next firmware which will probably be a build of Donut will be released.
I've had that problem since I've had it, about 2 months, Done factory reset twice. And it cures it for about 10 minutes, then just name of homebase, and no weather.
I Had the same problem after the update. I deleted the clock from the homescreen, reinstalled the HTC Clock widget and it works fine now. Hope that helps.....
is there a way to manually set the weather so that it shows under the clock??
i mean i m not connected to GPPRS or 3G all the time..so can i just make it show manually?? without being online??
I've had this problem almost since day one. It's a G2 on stock T-Mobile ROM.
No weather data under clock and if I manually update it just says 'no data available'.

Yep, same as me, apart from when it was brand new, worked for about half hour, then 'no data available' for my home base in 2months, and deleting and installing new widget makes no difference as worked for some others
I've been getting the no data available problem as well.
What I've found is that using 'current' as the location sometimes gives this for my location (Leicester) however, if I add Leicester as an actual location and choose this as the one to display, then it seems ok.
There's obviously a bug of some sort that results in Leicester current having no data when Leicester actually selected does.
Also, when I add the clock widget, no matter what city I choose to display, it always displays the one which is top on the sort order. I get round that by sticking my local one at the top...
Not sure if that is exactly the same as what you guys are experiancing...

Two days before the Google I/O I started noticing a new "Report" button whenever a Application would force closed. At first I thought it was a new feature of bTunes app until my phone died the same night. After waking up the launcher 2 crashed at boot and the report button was there again. Now thinking this was just some sort of odd temporary feature I just ignored it.
When the Google I/O keynote announced one of the new features would be Application Error Reports, I quickly realized my phone had a Froyo feature. Now the question remain, was this a silent update? Am I the only with 2.1 and this reporting feature? Also all numbers appear the same 2.1 update 1, same base band and kernel number. Thoughts?

I noticed the same thing just today and hadn't ever seen it before.
I wonder if this is some sort of sign that the Market has changed something, rather than a change in our phone's OS?

I actually had messenger crash shortly after the keynote and the report feature was there. I had never seen it before - unsure when it started appearing (running stock 2.1)
Same here, saw it about 2 days ago, but assumed it was part of the app that crashed. While watching the keynote speech I noticed a familiar feature, but after seeing these posts I went back to check, and it is definetly one and the same.
I have been a little supicious last few days, as I had received an out of mem notification while at work, when I hadn't been using my phone. Checking net counter it seemed I had downloaded several MB that I was unaware of.
Are google slowing trickling down froyo to us on the sly?
Has happened to me too, I now get that button whenever something crashes, and just about the same time this change happened my Genie Widget stopped working and I can no longer use it
I think that was built into 2.1.1 I've been seeing that for a while.

I've had this for about 2 days now. I didn't think anything of it at first, and I though it was part of the app itself. Looks like they did do a silent update. Since everyone here's got it, looks like they're going to be quite swift with the whole thing.
I think it is a silent update because I'm rooted on cyanogen and I havent got it. Unless you guys are rooted too

I'm rooted but on stock, I can't tell exactly when it happened, but it was at least 3 days ago.
Nah, Im on CM and have had this for some days and I (supposedly) can not recieve ota of any kind from Google so that would imply it was part of an application update.
I have Enomther's 1.9.2 and I have the report feature
hmmm any specific apps? I haven't had it yet
Yes I've been seeing this too and only in the last week. I just thought certain apps were doing it that had never crashed before.
Could it possibly have been an update to the SDK? So applications compiled since the SDK update have the feature?
maybe we're all having FroYo madness and we're imagining all this because we're getting so crazy from waiting lol jk jk
Maybe it's just part of the market app and it updated itself.
I couldn't reproduce this because I got no app to crash (and i think that's a very nice fact )
May I add: My stock AWS Nexus One has been on a shelf for many weeks since I got my Milestone, while I wait for Canada's first AWS carrier to launch. When I turned it on this weekend SIM-free, it connected to wi-fi and within a few minutes I got a notification of 30something app updates from the Market. I cleared the notification.
But the odd thing was, a few minutes later. I got a little notification "Lookout is scanning Market...", "Scan finished: Market is safe." This is from the Lookout security program and it normally happens every time an app is installed. So it looks like Android silently updated Market in the background and Lookout just happened to catch it and tell me about it.
So... I too suspect this is an updated feature of the Market.
I had believed it is the updates to market and attentant updates to apps that have the new feature enabled.
I've had it happen quite a few times I thought it was a rouge app or something. I started uninstalling stuff. I had it on a couple of apps.
I think the market app got updated
the report feature came up when something force closed yesterday....it was speedtest I think.
I've got a problem that's not related to GPS but locations. When I'm at home, the weather widget says my location is Sweden, however, Google Maps finds almost my exact location (two streets away or so). If I take a one km walk it finds the location and says Stockholm. I tried re-installing the locations software with no luck. Maybe my phone doesn't like my flat? :S

If you read what I actually said I clearly state that it's a problem with the weather widget (which naturally does display weather)
I have a different, but frustrating issue:
On the clock widget where you also can see your location and the weather:
I live in a town called Geldrop in the Netherlands, which always showed on the clock widget, including the weather corresponding to this town.
Now since a couple of days (do not know when exactly)...it just says: 'current location'...when I select the widget, bring it to the left bottom on the homescreen to edit it, I cannot select Geldrop anymore, it says it does not exist.....
My girlfriend has a DHD as well, and hers still says Geldrop.
Now, I do have flashed Leedroid, kernels etc, etc, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it...but is anyone able to point me in the direction of the solution?

The problem I'm experiencing only seems to appear when I'm in Stockholm, nowhere else.
I had the same problem with it saying "Current Location" before too, both on the DHD and my old WM. It solved itself eventually. However, the reason Geldrop doesn't "exist" is because it's not added in the built in database that comes from HTC. Because of this, you'll only see Geldrop when it's your current location since it gets the name of the location via AGPS and then looks it up on Acuweather.com. There's a program to edit the database for WM which I used to add Opitter in Belgium with, but I don't know if there's one for Android.

This actually makes sense
I have now chosen Eindhoven, as it is next to Geldrop and the weather is very similar

Yes, but the fact that your girlfriends phone finds the location while yours doesn't is very strange since it's the same device. I will report this tomorrow.
Another thing that's strange is the weather animation for fog. On the weather tab it says FOG with black letters all over the animation while this text is not visible on the clock widget. I asked HTC about this and they said it's all as it should be. Seems strange to me though.

Okey, so I mailed HTC today and they told me to remove the ip for the Proxy and port from the API, which seemed a bit strange to me, and to my disappointment it only made it worse by saying "Connection failed". Yey!
I am having the exact same problem, my original htc weather widget shows only "Sweden". This happened since the upgrade to 2.2.
I'm pretty sure the weather information is correct though. Since I've compared it to other weather apps and widgets. I've switched to beautiful widgets temporarily (well for a couple of months now), and there it shows even the parts of stockholm if I move around. Right now it's showing Fruängen which is correct.
I remember reading about some problem with the htc weather widget long ago on the modaco forums when 2.2 came. I don't think it's fixed yet (at least from HTCs side).

Yeah. That was my argument too when I spoke to HTC, but they said it's Googles fault even though Google maps finds my location correctly. They didn't accept it as their fault and therefore they didn't even file a report about it to the developers.

Hello,
I've got a similar problem with weather widget and location too...
I went to a small village for Christmas and since this time, my location in the widget is locked at this village.
When I open the weather app, I can see my good location very quickly, but after the refresh the location returns to the bad village.
And my location in google maps or in google’s website is good...
I have the same problem I have to delete all data for weather and clock and update it again. anyone have any idea why this happen?

Is it just me or do the live tiles never really work?
The hub never really seemed to update and now with the newest version it does nothing. Other weather programs don't work. I have researched it a bit but who wants to hard reset every time a standard feature doesn't work??
Love the phone & OS but just a little disappointed on the live tiles.

The tiles work fine for me. Are you talking about the core tiles or 3rd party application tiles?
The only "stock" one that doesn't work is the HTC hub. The mail and message counts work great. So I guess it is only stuff from the market that doesn't seem to work, weather and stuff like that. And why isn't there a great simple, double space clock so I don't have to squint to see the time?..

The HTC Hub works for me...make sure you have some data connection, and you can try to set it so that it updates more frequently. All the live tiles work fine for me. I just wish more applications took advantage of the live tile system.
The only tile I've had an issue with was the Facebook one that wouldn't clear notifications after I acknowledged them. I use the Weather Channel live tile a lot which never has given me trouble and my stock tiles work as they should.

Yeah it's just it seems inconsistent. My HTC hub started working after days of nothing. The WPcentral live tile all the sudden came ‘live’ after a couple weeks.
I always have great 3G data and plenty of 15mb wifi...
Don't get me wrong - I love it but just wish it was more reliable
All my live tiles are working just fine... even the new Foursquare one.
Any idea what would cause ALL of my homescreen widgets to stop updating i.e. freeze for no obvious reason? I'm completely stock & un-rooted, and when this issue first came up I did a factory reset but the problem still comes up out of nowhere. Everything will be working fine and then out of nowhere they all stop updating. Here are the widgets I use:
Fancy Widget
Switch Pro
Android Pro Widgets
BattStatt Pro
I've been using these same widgets for at least three years, and over three different devices, and this has never been a problem, which makes me think it's something weird with KitKat. At this point I'm removing widgets one by one to see if I can narrow it down, but it is so f-ing frustrating because everything will be fine for a day or two and then WHAM all of my homescreen widgets just lock up and the only way to get them to update again is to reboot the device which is a pain in my ass. It's worth mentioning that even after all the widgets freeze the stock 'Weather' widget still works fine...

Thanks, I'll give it a try to see if I still have the issue. I used to run LauncherPro back in the day - even paid for the plus version - but then the dev promptly stopped releasing updates, and I felt somewhat ripped off. . . From then on I've stayed with whatever launcher came stock on the device.
How did you manage to put widgets on lock screen?
I had it on my S4 but I couldn't find that settings in the S5.

I posted about the same issue in the Verizon GS5 forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738912. Hopefully one of us will get an answer. My weather widgets were stopping the refresh (BeWeather and Beautiful Widgets), and I use Go Launcher and Apex. And my interval between requiring a launcher restart drops - initially its a couple days, but as time progresses, I need to reset more and more frequently.
Not sure its a KitKat specific issue - my Nexus 7 (2012) running KitKat runs all widgets fine.

So, I'm NOT the only one after all. And you have this issue even on Apex? Not good - I was hoping that would be a solution for me.
In searching around online I found the following info on another forum:
"this issue occurs because kitkat has changed the way it manages background alarms. most widgets that update frequently use "alarmmanager" to trigger each update. but in kitkat, the trigger event is intentionally delayed so that android can group processes together, saving battery life and data use. so, for all those clock and weather widgets, the developers have to write a bunch of new code for kitkat devices, so that their widgets update at the intended time."
After reading this I tested a theory and set my alarm to go off in 2 minutes. The alarm went off, and sure enough all widgets were frozen . . . I figured it must be the 'Timely Alarm Clock' app causing the issue, so I uninstalled and went back to stock alarm. This didn't work however, because two days later everything froze up again . . . I'm wondering now if it might be one of the other apps I'm using in the background, but there are so many possibilities and the issue is so intermittent. I never use 'task killers' or battery monitoring apps, so that isn't it. I could spend weeks trying to narrow it down, and it's always possible that more than one app could be causing the problem.

I can't speak for the author, but I believe he was referring to "alarms" from a programming sense. I.e. the alarm is what "wakes up" the phone to tell it to go on the internet, fine the latest weather info, and update the widget.
Widgets are working fine on my Nexus 7 (2012) that runs KitKat. I think I had a similar issue on my SGS3 when I first got it, and I posted to those forums a couple years ago, but now for the life of me I cannot remember what the solution was...it may have been to move to Apex!
Interestingly enough, the problem seems to have fixed itself. There were updates to Apex in the meantime, perhaps its that.
My friend with Go Launcher is also seeing the same impact - the issue is gone.

I hesitate to respond for fear of tempting fate . . . But since installing Nova launcher two weeks ago I haven't had a single issue with home screen widgets freezing. I am also experiencing truly great battery life now, but I'm not sure if Nova had anything to do with that since I made a number of other tweaks I'd done trying to fix the widget issue. In any case, I finally feel like my S5 is glitch free and functioning as a next-gen device should.
