Got a Trophy on Ebay..... - Trophy General

Hi Guys,
I just got won a Trophy on ebay, only paid 30 bucks for it including shipping so I am pretty happy with that.
Anyways... The thing doesn't boot (I knew that when I bid on it)
Here is the story, the guy broke the screen so then he replaced it. It worked fine for 3 days, then gets stuck on the HTC logo. It is never custom flashed. Anyideas where to start with this phone when I get it?
Worst comes to worst, I can just resell it, but I would really prefer to use it.
Aaron

Is this Verizon Trophy, or Euro GSM Trophy? I would build a GoldCard and try restoring the stock rom.

HTC Customer Support -- Replacing a Phone?

Hello everyone,
So I need to replace my phone, but since I am with T-Mobile on an unlocked 8525, I have to go through HTC to do so (I bought the phone on eBay). Does anyone have any experience with their customer support and if this is an easy task to go about doing? (I have the classic white-screen problem)
I already called their American "hotline", and it was just some guy who picked up and didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about. He told me to call back tomorrow when their warranty department was open and they could help me out.
Thanks!

I have had my phone replaced by HTC. But that was only because the repairservice misplaced my phone.
At least here in Europe you need a proof of purchase with a date on it.
After this date the warranty period starts. So you could have some problems there.
eBay / 8525 repair
Hey there,
I had purchased an 8525 on eBay.
A few months later, the phone had some hardware problems.
I tried fixing myself, but was unable to do so.
AT&T / Cingular will not help you if you do not have their service and HTC will not help you, because it is a Cingular / AT&T branded hone.
After selling my broken 8525 on eBay, for parts, I waited to buy a new one.
Just bought another used 8525 on eBay last week, and unlocked it.
Today I purchased a warranty plan from www.squaretrade.com.
They will replace your phone, or give you your money back if they can not replace it.
It is well wirth the money spent for a warranty through them, since AT&T and HTC wont help.
Let me know if you have any questions.
How much can I get?
Well, it's too late for me to get the Squaretrade warranty, but I will keep that in mind for next time, thank you.
Now my question is (if I can't get HTC to replace it), how much could I get for this phone? All it is is the white-screen problem, which I've read people can easily fix by just taking the phone apart (I'm just not good with that so I don't know if I wanna risk it). How much would I be able to sell a white-screen 8525 for on eBay? $250 maybe? Thanks!

Bricked HD2

Yep. I bricked my HD2 by flashing the 51. Last night, half asleep I did it. I was running droid for about 2 weeks no issues. Phone is dead, won't power on. Tmobiles policy is because I didn't buy the phone from them, they will not warranty it. HTC service center is opened M-F.. If they dont want to fix it, anyone know of any online sources that would like to fix this?
Phone is completely bricked, doesn't power on. No led lights. Seems loader / spl is gone. Paper weight. I know theres 10000 threads about bricks, but I didn't see any about repair centers or reputable members of this great community who are unbricking them. Any ideas?
Sorry to hear that. Others might know how to get it back up running but in case no one does. Not sure how it is in the States but in Switzerland I never had luck with Official HTC Repair Centers. They might be able to fix something realy easy like doing a hardreset. but they always quoted me a huge price to fix anything else. Basically replacing it for the original full price. For about a third of that I was able to buy a new one on Ebay. Got my last T-Mobile HD2 for $242. If your old one is still in good cosmetic condition you can still sell if for parts and get atleast $120 to $200 depending on how you do it. The HD2 Screen and Digitizer is worth allot of money because its so big. But I hope you find someone that knows how to fix it. Good luck.
Yeah your HD2 is completely and hopelessly bricked if you flashed a .51 radio. Currently there is no way that we know of to recover from this, other than sending it to HTC and letting them fix/or replace it. You are looking at around 150USD +/- if in warranty, and God knows how much if you aren't. Don't be sleepy and flash kids!
Wow,
Even with JTAG there is no way to recover? That is such fail on HTC behalf...
I know that its negligence on my behalf for flashing it, but the fact that it bricks the devices like this is just
And if the phone is under warranty .. lets say power goes out when flashing an official tmo rom.. wouldnt it brick in the same sense?
yes jtag willdo it, but its about 100 dollars for the kit, and you have to totally dismantle the phone.
I've used the Riff-Box to un-brick my HD2 but I'm no electrical engineer. There are some engineers at the following link (hxxp://preview.tinyurl.com/25unuds) that offer to repair a range of devices. Hope you find someone local
ty. There are two local people here in the usa
Thanks!!
I bought my phone on craigslist with a cracked screen.. I also bricked my phone from flashin .51 without paying attention..
I called HTC and told her directly what I did, she told me they could fix it with no problem.. and that it would be between $50 and $170..
When they got the phone, she told me they had to replace the motherboard in my phone and would do it for free as long as I paid for the cracked screen, which was $120.
I have my phone back now, good as new

How long did the warranty process and shipping take?
Did you have a different SPL? Because I was running droid on mine.
But if I tried to flash to the .51 wouldnt this reset the spl?

i suspect htc use screens and boards pre assembled when doing repairs. a friend had his cracked glass repaired (paid repair by htc) and i sent mine in with a faulty usb port(so new board, screen fine) and in both cases we got new boards and screens, but the back of the phone was the same.(both have full body zag, still in place, but not on the screen, plus new imei numbers.)

is it safe to buy a refurbished hd2 tmous ?

hi, i plan to buy a brand new hd2 (the tmous one), problem is i inspect tmob site (t-mobile.com) and found that t-mobile no longer producing a brand new hd2, so they sell the refurb hd2 only
question is, is it safe to buy a refurbished hd2 tmous? or should i choose to buy the used hd2 tmous one?
refurbs are ok. you get a warranty.
My HD2 is perfect
warning before you buy!
i ordered my hd2 from tmobile on the 23rd... got it on the 28th... BROKE. for some reason this thing would not stay on for more than 2 min with out rebooting. took about 2 hours and at least 3 seperate phone calls to set up a return and cancel the contract i had to extend to get the (broken) phone. i ended up buying one in mint condition off the local craigslist for $50 and 2 years less. just a warning. i do like tmobile but after the crap they gave me in trying to return it.... ill pass.

Sorry you had a bad experience with the refurb from T-Mobile. But at least T-Mobile took it back, they probably would have sent you another one if you would have asked to replace the broken one. Also I am not downing your choice to buy off of craigslist, but if you get a broken HD2 from there you probably will not be so lucky to be able to return it. Just a thought, it is ultimately up to the buyer to make the decision.

I ordered mine in mid March. I already had one, but by ordering a refurb through T-Mobile I was offered a lifetime warranty for 1.99 per month. I'm probably going to sell my original, which was advertised as "open box", but had about 13 hours of talk time. Maybe it was used in a store or something, I don't know. This one had been used for about 3 minutes, so it was very new.
The site did list new ones as of a couple of weeks ago, but only for new customers.
I bought mine off of amazon.com second hand for $250.... it had issues at first ...kept on restarting ...but it turned out the baseband ( software that interprets the rom's instruction to the hardware) was wrong
I upgraded to 2.15.xx.xx and it works flawlessly now...

[Q] Tips & Pointers Needed for buying a HTC Wildfire

Hi All,
I need some tips and pointers on buying a htc wildfire on gumtree. The person is saying that it is brand new in box used for 2 hours.
Could you tell me some things to look out for and to check when buying second hand.
you could probably ask if the phone has been updated to 2.2.1
If you are wanting to root it or think you might at a later date you really dont want a 2.2.1

Hi, its not from a shop, the person said its was a present for his girlfriend but she never wanted it and used it for 2 hours, i think it locked to vodafone. Im not sure if i can post the link to the ad on xda, can i do that?
how much is it, if your on a different network you'll have to pay to unlock it, but it will still be loaded with voda apps that you won't be able to use, and i would imagine a vodaphone splash screen when you boot. if you do get it for a good price and its still 2.1 you could root and flash a custom rom which will get rid of preloaded bloatware. also i'm not sure if warranty is transferrable.

hes selling it for £160 but i think i can budge him down to about £20 down, What do you recon should i just buy one new?
that seems a bit excessive, they are selling over here brand new on prepaid for$299
australian, according to exchange rates about 187 quid
and i've seen as low as $260. they are locked to a carrier same as the one you are looking and also unlocked on ebay for $280. in the end of course its your call, but if you have to unlock its going to cost as much as a brand new phone and have bloatware from voda.
and if there is something wrong, with a retailer you can normally get an immediate swap if less than 14 days old, i would presume you would need original receipts from 2nd hand phone for warranty sake.
Used is used, even if its 5 minutes.
You never know what he has done with the phone.
I just suggest you to buy a brand new factory one, that way you will never have any problems, and even if you will, they will be easily solve-able.
The extra cash is well worth it.
I got a used one from e-bay for £130 a couple of months ago but they were selling them for £129-99 in Phones4U a couple of weeks ago but you had to pick a network and buy £10 top up, but I dont know if the deal is still available

My HD2 ⋆ 08/10 ✝ 02/11

Ok, i realy dont care if this topic will be deleted or not, but i like to share my experience with my beloved HD2.
Im brazilian and cause of that, im destined to pay a lot of money for devices that cost not SO much in us or europe. For example, ive purchased my hd2 for more or less 750,00 us dollars. It was a lot of money for me, im student and live with a tiny scholarship.
Here in brazil htc is almost totally unknown and sell few devices. The HD2 was never sold officially here, so i imported it. The three first months with it were wonderful. I bought it because its capacibility to boot multi os, customization is essential for me (ios sucks cause of this) and the capacity to run winmo AND android conviced me.
I was online when cotulla post the magldr (30/12) and i was so happy to finally be able to flash android roms and later wp7.
I'm not sure when it started but my device began to show some wierd problems. I remember being using it and suddenly it restarted. And when it restarted it took some resets to be able to boot again. It froze many many times and got hot in the area of mainboard (In some cases it was not so hot, arount 38 ºC). I tried flashing other android roms, wp7, winmo roms and even uninstalling magldr/hspl and flash back the stock rom, but neither works.
So i had two alternatives: Send my phone to us HTC, which could take months to get it back and be subject to high shipping rates or send it to a local technical assistance and lost my warranty with htc. I chosed the second alternative. The phone went two weeks for technical assistance. When I got it back I was informed that they could not fix it. So, after 2 more days trying to make it work correctly I GAVE UP. I spent many of my summer vacation nights trying to this but no more.
I put him back in the box with all accessories and when I put the box cover back seemed to me that I was closing him in his coffin (that's where the idea of the topic title came out). This phone has brought me much joy and fun and it's a shame to have to do this.
So, I hope this never happens to any of you. If anyone thinks it's worth buying it to use some part (the screen is in perfect condition) send pm me.
I would like to thank all who make xda an amazing place. And especially to developers who do this great work to bring us many advantages for choosing the right phone.
Now I have to save my money again to buy another phone, maybe a galaxy s or a x10. But I'll probably buy another hd2 or wait for the next generation of phones with tegra2
I had the same problem. Your mainboard is going to die.

=/
I cant believe that brazil do not have a certified htc warranty repair center?? If your phone is under warranty so why the h are you willing to pay for the repair cost? Where did you buy your phone?? Contact them and they must fix it or the country is retarded.
call Tel: +55 11 4003-0482 ( latin amerika brazil) and demand free repair
Sad to read stories like this. HTC really need to get their global act together pronto...
did you do a task29? could have maybe fixed all of your issues.
