[Q] Sweaty Hands! - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just finished setting up my brother's nook color (phiremod) so I started to teach him how to use it. The problem is, he can't use it at all! He has very sweaty hands 24/7 and due to the capacitive screen, wherever he touches, "sticks", and can only be solved by rebooting.
The bottom line is, is there a screen protector or something that will help his sweaty hand problem?
Thanks in advance,
ScienceGuy3

Maybe something like this.

Nice try, but I don't think those gloves would work to well in Florida's 95+ heat!

Getting a screen protector might help.

Maybe someone makes thinner gloves. You could have him use a Stylus with conductive foam like the one I made. But , the stylus is limited in use depending on whats he's going to use the NC for. hmmm I guess your best bet is get a screen protector.

Can someone recommend a good screen protector for the nook color? I don't want anti-glare, because that will hurt the screen quality.

Get the one from Barnes and Noble. It's a little more expensive than what you can find on the internet, but you get two and they will install it for you. No small task to get it right. I have been very happy with mine.

Thanks, but the nearest B&N is very far away from me. Plus, I have heard that the B&N screen protector is very hard to apply/not as good as others. What about this one: (sorry I can't post a link, don't have enough posts yet, look it up on amazon for the reviews)
ArmorSuit MilitaryShield Protector for Nook Color
Seems to have good reviews.

I know you said you didn't want a matte one, but I got a set of 2 off of ebay for like $3, I think, and have been very pleased. There was very little loss of clarity to me, much less than the one on my phone, and I haven't had a problem with fingerprints/grease and ghost touches again since. The matte ones also are supposed to be especially good against fingerprints (and of course glare).
That said, I would almost recommend just getting whatever's cheap on ebay (just get at least 2 in case you screw one up). Make sure the Nook is perfectly clean and install it in a steamy room (ie. in the bathroom after running the shower on hot for a couple of minutes). I've had good results using this method.

That one is probably fine. I got the regular (not anti-glare) B&N one when I ordered my Nook. It was a little pricier but not crazy and came with two protectors and a micro fiber cleaning cloth. It is nice if they put it on for you but I did it myself with no issues.

I have the B&N anti glare screen protector and it doesn't hurt the viewing at all installed it at my desk at work almost year ago and it's been great. Just get the screen perfectly clean and just hold the edges, it was easier than any other screen protector I've put on before.

Thanks Guys! You really helped a lot! I am going to go ahead and get that screen protector.
P.S. I know this is a really noob question, but how to you mark a post as solved?

Martin Fields Screen Protector

Got this today and it's significantly shorter than the screen (3/16"). Any other owners - is this normal? Expected it to be a flush fit.
Anyone? I know people have them - they were recommended on here repeatedly. Thanks in advance.
Havn't got mine yet. Their US site was backordered so I ordered from across seas. It should be here some time this week though.
I recently got boxwave protector.
Quite good and smooth under the stylus.
funny, i've had a few and they alway fit perfectly. perhaps take a picture of the fit and email them, and post the pic and their response here for reference.
well, i've had a few on the 3.5" devices, none for the 2.8" so its been a few years since i've had one i guess
This is funny because I thought the same thing and was really really angry. But it actually fits perfectly. I think you made the same mistake I did by sliding it too far up (going underneath the front housing) causing it to be too short and not fit right. If you line up the screen protector perfectly with the screen it should fit perfectly. Look at the piece you peeled it off from and compare it to the size of the screen and you will see what I mean.
I ordered another one because it wasn't too good after i took it off the first one. Hope this helps.
Expert Shield screen protectors are just as good and are half the price.

kp's got it right. i think OP slid the protector under the top frame of the screen. i made this mistake the first time i put in this screen protector too after positioning it correctly, it fits perfectly.
great screen protector btw. WAY better than the OEM one.
I have gone through many different screen protectors over the years, and I have one thing to say about all of them - none of them hold a candle to Martin Fields.
Every one I have bought on eBay have made my screen look grainy, for lack of a better word. It's like looking through a screen door. Only MF protectors look, and act, like the actual screen. It's like they are completely invisible. It is most noticable when you turn your phone on in the dark.
Yes, $25 for two of them is kinda spendy, but WELL worth the money. They are easy to apply and reusable. Wash them under the faucet, let dry, and reuse it. All the other ones are one use only (despite their claims).
I just received my screen protector from NuShield and I have to say I am extremely impressed with them. It comes in a pack of 3 for $11.99 and they are not adhesive. They fit perfectly, you dont have to worry about air bubbles, and the clarity is very good. You can get clear of anti-glare. I got the clear ones and once they are on you cant really tell they are there. The only thing negative I have to say about it is that it is a little tricky to install, but once I figured out the proper way to do install the protector it was easy. I would definitely recommend this as an alternative to adhesive screens.
Has anyone used one of these protectors in combination with one of the cubes floating around?
any issues (eg loss of sensitivity/harder to get touchflo to respond etc..)??
I completely agree with Lidberg. The Martin Fields is the best screen protector I've used to date. I had a couple pieces of lint/hair get on it during installation. I peeled it back up, took a piece of tape, pulled the lint/hair off the protector and placed it back down with no issue or bubbles. It has no effect on the touch screen either. Great product!
Well I ordered my Martin Fields on January 7 and it's still not here... blah. I'll give my 2 cents soon... hopefully...
So I've tested a few screen protectors:
The Invisishield
Martin Fields
Expert Shield
Invisishield IMO is VERY clear very easy to apply, NO BUBBLES!!! it's just very VERY grippy and is a PITA to use with your fingers.
Martin Fields and Expert Shield all in all are basically the same IMO same clarity, they have about the same degree of difficulty to put on (which isn't hard but harder than the Invisishield) and they are cut perfectly
The Expert Shield costs less, but is much harder to find, it took me a LONG time to find the expert shield for the kaiser =/
I also compared the Martian Fields and Expert Shield on my SE W810i with same results as the one for the Kaiser
IMO Martin Fields of the Expert Shield you can't go wrong with either
Well finally got my Martin Fields today and let me just say if there was ever a more difficult screen protector to put on, the manufacturer should be in court.
With that said it fits and feels great, and looks pretty darn good. I can tell it's there (just because I stared at it) but it looks pretty nice.

you dont have a screen protector on your phone?? it shouldve came with your phone unless you got it else where. better get these
well i screwed up the one that came wit it by trying to get it perfectly on the screen, so after ripping it out over and over again i kept gettin dust on it, so i threw it away and for now i put that original one back that has the pictures on it and shows you how to tilt ur phone? u know the one that comes on it when its brand new wit "warnings" and stuff...
either way...i am about to purchase either the "Expert Shield" or the pocket solution ones and i am tryin to get some feedback on the pocket solution ones first before purchasing. as for now, i have my phone on "baby mode" and am leaving it at home
geez...no one?
Expert Shield all the way. Don't even second guess it.
Expert Shield rocks. I have used them for my Tilt and a couple of cameras. You just have be careful putting them on. It is really easy to get dust under it if your not careful. Look on eBay and you can find them for really cheap shipped from either Hong Kong or Canada. Usually around $10 - $12 shipped. They are more expensive here.

+5 to that. i'm using them now on my tilt.
they're thick, yet flexible, have yet to show any wear from the stylus, & they haven't appeared to affect the touch sensitivity either.
It's been said by someone here that the Expert Shield protectors are just as good as the Martin Fields. He ruined one of his Martin Fields and I told him to try out ES and he said it was great.
They're a lot cheaper also.

PSP Screen protector
I'm using a Hiro PSP Screen protector (cut into size) covers 99.9% of the screen almost same thickness as with martin fields, but at a fraction of the price
It also doesn't affect screen sensitivity.

I bought an Expert Shield and am VERY happpy with it. You're dead on about the dust thing and I'll add fingerprints to that list.
I did discover is that you can remove it and wash the sticky side off with warm water and a clean finger. Then pat dry lightly with lint free cloth for eye glasses. It will it go right back on just like new!!!! I did this three times in a row for fingerprints and dust that was bugging me.
Great product!!!

I'm using them, and they are ok for the money. There are better ones out there like the others are stating. But for 5 bucks, not a bad buy at all.
Also try Boxwave's ClearTouch, It's a bit pricey but man... after 2 month with this thing stick on my screen, it didn't even get a single scratch on it, hard as a rock! Also perfect fit. It's also washable and after wash it with soap and put it back on to your screen it looks like brand new... Well worth the money.
Link here.
Someone here linked them before I bought them and they are garbage. They are a pain in the ass to put on the first one I put on didnt cover enough of the screen and anything off of your fingers stays on there and its very hard to clean you have to use water. Mircofiber cloth wasnt good enough. Within two weeks it bubbled up and I had to trash the 1st one. The 2nd one that came in the pack was too big and it was also did not fit well. Oh yea
I dont recommend them.
Lifetime Shield
Invisible Shield. Thats the one.
Lifetime shield
The invisible shield does have a different feel to it, but its nothing thats a show stopper. The company is good for its work, they have already replaced one due to the lack of a camera opening for my tytn 2.

Screen protector.

How many people use em? Got the invisible shield on but it makes the screen look horrible. Anyone else think the same?

Weird, I have my Zagg on and it looks fine. Unless of course your talking about when the screen is off.
I'm using an XtremeGuard which I got off eBay for $2.50. It is wonderful!! It had bubbles and stuff when the screen was off when I first put it on, but EVERYTHING cleared up within 2-3 days. I used a mild soapy water to put it on, so it was kinda "rainbow" looking when the screen was lit up, but all of that has since dried up. The screen is crystal clear both on and off. If you didn't know there was a screen protector on there, you would see it. You can tell by touching it, it feels a little more grippy, which I actually like. Also it hasn't intefered with the performance of the touchscreen as well, I'm 100% satisfied with it.

Mine looked terrible at first too, but after about a day, I guess the liquid fully dried and it didn't look cloudy anymore.
Bought a 3-pack from a Sprint store.
Don't use the anti-glare one. It significantly lowers the image quality.
It's akin games which use the film grain effect, except here you'd want the clarity instead of fancy effects.
Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it. I guess it only looks bad because I got a few scratches on the screen protector itself but I guess that's why you buy them in the first place. I might call to get a replacement if it gets any worse, these have a lifetime warranty.

That is exactly the reason I don't use a screen protector. They are made out of plastic and will scratch easily. The glass that is covering the LCD is made out of glass and VERY difficult to scratch. Seems like a waste of money to me. I had 3 iPhones and never had a scratch in the glass.
Did not work for me
I bought an invisi shield Saturday and they put it on my phone, I have had problems typing with it. I even tried to recalibrate the typing but it was not even able to type the first letter. Therefore, I took the front shield off and i am able to type with no problem now. Sucks.. maybe they put it on wrong because my wife's phone is working fine with it on. Life time warranty on it so Im going to take it back and have them try it again.

+1 for Anti-Glare.
I know most people do not like them because they "reduce" the colors or quality of the screen, but I like the fake that it provides a smooth surface and doesn't leave any fingerprints compared to Crystal-Clear screen protectors
I got the Zagg (actually I am on the second one, as the first came off in my pocket and got covered with lint).
I should say that Zagg is great, they sent me a new one with no questions asked and even waived the shipping, since the replacement was requested so quickly after purchase.
In any case, I am now second guessing my decision after viewing a youtube video on the scratch resistance of the screen.
Just go to youtube and search for "HTC EVO screen test". (sorry, as a new user I am unable to post the link).
Here's the link. Pretty impressive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeoAl-94bks
I've used all kinds of screen protectors for all my devices until the ZuneHD, which is supposed to have Corning Gorilla Glass, supposedly super scratch resistant. Long story short, i pulled it out of my pocket where it was by itself and it had a nice fat scratch on the surface. Brought it back to Best Buy, got another one, and swearing to never trust any claims to scratch resistance.
Using a clairvue clear on my Evo 4g, and clairvue antiglare on a tp2, and a martin fields on a tp1, all 3 are well protected and i've never been happier.

What I hate about screen protectors...

There's almost some mathematical formula of randomness with these. Buy three, all three go on badly and are wasted. Buy another three and the same can happen. There's no learning curve that really climbs - the variables are so great - dust, wrong placement, bubbles, hairs - that each attempt is individual. And yet you can get lucky and fit one perfectly.
I find the wet apply screen protectors go on just fine if you take your time. Just make sure the screen is clean, wet it and position it. You can slide them around on the screen to get it positioned and squeegee. I've never had a problem. The little air bubbles left when your done work themselves out.
So true, there is no pro when it comes to applying these protection films

Agreed with this, I got a Zagg invisible shield for my Note and it looked awful. Removed it after a day. Went on nicely though.
ArmorSuit is where it is at for the TF300T. Unfortunately for me, I got some small dust particles that got caught up when I was putting it on, but didn't notice it until after it dried. I'm starting to wonder if I'm better off just taking the protector off.
Hard to find European seller for ArmorSuit MilitaryShield for TF300T alright.
Anyone know there if there's a difference in placement of things like front camera and brightness sensor between the Pad and the Prime?
Think the screen dimensions are the same anyways.
Could just get a Prime one instead then.

there are certain tricks to do a good screen protector job (most i do, work out fine)
-(optional) for the dust: have hot shower run in your bathroom for a while, untill its damp there (it takes away the dust)
-clean the screen thoroughly
-for positioning, put the protector on the device with both plastics still on, take a few pieces of tape, tape the oposite site of the peel off strip to the device when protector is in place
-clean screen again
-peel off plastic on sticky side, then aply the protector arced (less bubbles)
-now remove bubbles with a credit card, swipe em to the closest side untill they are gone
-finally , remove tape and upper plastic
worst that can happen is a few dust speckles under it (not if u use damp bathroom trick) , positioning should be ace when taped to the side
Super cheapos from eBay for me, please. They fit perfectly and you can't tell you have one. If I screw things up while applying I can always remove the specks of dust with a piece of tape. Easy as pie indeed. I'll never waste my money again on expensive "quality" ones.

I discovered this trick a couple years ago. It's really great and more people should know it.
I do this, and take my time, and I get a perfect application every time.
I'm not sure how you do it but when i put on screen protectors I use a piece of tesa roll after I put the Protector down once to get the dust away from under the protector. Works really well...just do it inch by inch and you will be rewarded with a really invisible shield.
If you attach one side of the protector with tesa roll to the body before you remove the backside cover of it, then you even don't have to think about positioning as you can still move it around on the screen.
Hope this helped and I didn't misunderstand the topic completely...

Do you use a screen protector for your TF300?

and why?
Because
They are a pain in the ass to put on. Almost always higher friction. Slight dimming factor. And never had problems with scratched screens. So, nope.

Can just say, me too - I hate this little "blows" in this screen protector and folded with de dock there is no danger of scratches, so definitely no reason to put on one and fail
Opted not to use one as I really didn't see a need for one.

I'm extremely paranoid about scratches. I got a small one and now I use a protector! I am using the armor suit protector its absolutely fantastic!! I barely even feel that it is there I can still use my capacitive stylus.
I am looking to get a skinomi tech in the future to help protect the back from scratches too along with giving it a bit of visual flair
I use the armorsuit, no dimming of screen, durable as heck, there is a little more friction, but worth it. Why do I use it? Because it's easy to put on right the first time because it uses liquid to position. Plus the Decal Girl skin went on over it and is great.

nope, i have the dock and a soft case i keep it in either with or without the dock.
main reason is i cant find any in my city in Canada here and i cant be bothered to order online.
If i found a nice one that fits this screen in town id get it probably.
Never had a screen protector on my OG transformer, and I love how naked screen feels, kind of miss it on my gs3 lol
Yes, I have the ZAGG protector for the front and the back. I am happy that it is being protected from scratches, but it is SO much more difficult to apply than a phone because of the size, and I got fingerprints on the adhesive side.
I want to take it off, because there are two permanent bubbles, but since I paid for it, I might as well leave it. I may take it off if/when I get my dock.

No, because they can never be put on good enough for me, bubbles drive me INSANE, also I hate the friction they add.
I use a matte one to get rid of reflections. Also, it feels more like paper when writing with a stylus.

I use the Poetic CrystalClear and I honestly can't tell its there, sometimes I doubt it myself but I think it is there, maybe? (Perfect touch response, slightly less glares and perfect fit, also was _really_ easy to put on, got it right the first time and took me less than a minute, 0 bubbles left. No need to wait 24h and mess with the wet applied..)
