Okay its already been confirmed that the desire HD will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich soon. Here is the thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488915 . I came across a article on cnet that possible dates for HTC's Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G which is June 16th. Here is the article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...-for-t-mobile-devices-revealed/?tag=txt;title . So what I think is that if those phone are receiving the wonderful ICS at that time, So should Desire HD. Now this is all based on theory but We are that much closer.
If this thread is a waste of time feel free to say so, cause I'm new at this. The last thing I need is a bad rep. BUT LIKE I SAID THIS IS ALL THEORY. NOT OFFICIAL
I bid farewell and I love this community.
I'm confused. Are you saying we will get the update the same time as the Sensaation on the 16th June?
What i mean is that a number of HTC devices are receiving ICS soon. In theory like I said, since a bundle of devices are getting ICS, so should Desire HD. I'm not saying that we will be getting it at the same time but HTC seems to be giving ICS around that time. So we might be getting ICS very soon. ALL THIS IS THEORY LIKE I SAID. :3
I doubt HTC are in Any Rush, The Phone has had It's day, even the development is dead on it, and many people are moving on to Newer phones, But it will probably be June or July time.

Reading the cnet link that you have shared, i think they are pertaining to those devices that aare locked (branded) with T-Mobile. Unbranded/unlocked devices always receive the updates first than the branded ones. So if the target dates are right and your theory is also correct, I would say that the unbranded devices will be recieving the updates a month or weeks earlier than june 16..

Well from all the comments shown, the predictions are pointed towards this summer. Summer is just a blink away, I'm sure it will come soon. Cause HTC is all about customer satisfaction. HOHOHOHOHOHOH
I also think it will come in the next weeks, HTC's last act for our tremendous DHD.
Hope they want to cross that task from their ToDo early...
While I certainly wish they bring out a official ICS port, I doubt it. Why would they bother? Everyone that would be dissapointed by missing official support already is.
Our Device is close to 18 months old and they are releasing new flagship devices right now.

Hi All,
Seem HTC has come out and annouced that the Legend will be getting an update in Q3.
pocket-lint.com/news/33997/htc-handsets-froyo-q3-update
looking forward!!!
finally! tks 4 the info
Wicked! Looking forward to an official release and to when it gets rooted.
This has just made my day, fantastic news!
wooooo!!, suppose it will take a bit longer for vodafone to release it though?
I'll be able to renew my contract by November so October is too late for me to enjoy Froyo.
the best part is Q3 technically starts tomorrow.. sooo the update could actually come anytime after tomorrow
looks like the 2 weeks thing is actually starting to pan out
what is Q3 ?
posted again here too:

well conventionally this would around July so , lets say it should be available by end of July, but I guess its up to them.
Still, it's great to have it officially confirmed - finally! The sexiest phone on the market will get even better. Can't wait for app2sd. Yahoo!
3rd quarter of the year, you do the math
Sent from my HTC Legend
Well...if according to the earlier news item when HTC announced that "the Desire will have the update in 2 weeks", then technically the Froyo update will be available this Sunday ... here's me hoping for a nice surprise this weekend!! *fingers crossed*
Also for the person who asked above Q3 means the third quarter of the year, which is the months of July, August and September. So its very possible that we may well see an update for our legend this weekend or early next week.
Can't wait! but does anyone know how to make flash 10.1 work on it when we get froyo?
Wooooot!
This is such good news!! Can't WAIT for Froyo!!!!!
i do hope it is really true, but i would not hold my breath waiting for the update in the next 2 weeks, one quarter is 3 months and it might be available by the end of August. im really looking forward for the update but i wont get my hopes up. hopefully we get it asap though.

Ok you need to breathe buddy, it's just been announced it will most probably take a month before it will be available on HTC as they need to incorporate Sense to it.
well if you recall the desire made the jump from 2.1 to 2.2 pretty soon after the 2.2 announcement, considering the DHD is the new flagship phone id imagine a very similar situation if not there is always custom roms
Wonder if cyanogen will publish it before htc that will be sweet
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The DHD will most likely be the first HTC handset to receive the update. However, how long this takes is anyone's guess. Then your carrier will modify the update, unless of course you got a stock unbranded DHD.
My money is on Cyanogen, real money. If CM releases 2.3 before HTC I'll donate again.

Nope, the roms can't be made until the source code is released or another device gets it to be ported over.
Roms can be made from the sdk but don't turn out very well to say the least.
I expect an announcement soon from HTC, i doubt they will let their flagship higher specs phone fall short against their direct competitor, classic desire was the first device to get froyo after the nexus
I'm betting on it being out around Christmas time,
Probably in 2 weeks we'll start to get them trickling out...
I hope that dhd will get it as soon as possible, but wouldn't be surprised if Samsung s get's it first considering cooperation of Google with them on new G phone.

Unfortunately the N1 was pretty much the same as the Desire. And was built by HTC. Now the situation is a little bit different having Google cooperating with the plastic-toy manufacturer . Then again I doubt Galaxy S will get 2.3 sooner than the DHD, because they got to 2.2 about a month ago.

Sadly there is no news.
HTC have not released a statement saying if they will release Gingerbread for the DHD.
Obviously, with the DHD being their flagship handset, in Europe at least, an update should be due. Probably 2 months away though, HTC have to pollute it with Sense, carriers have to bloat & brand it. The Nexus One has yet to receive it, and there is no carrier branding.
If you really can't wait that long, install CM7.
Thanks for the info mate.
Well that's what I was thinking , being a flagship handset you would think they would try and get it out to compete fully with nexus s.
I am thinking about it however last time I rooted the h boot failed , ain't tried since.
Would like to keep to HTC as this is the second one iv had but the amount of problems iv had with this phone combined with slow up date times make it hard to not move to a I5 in the summer when its released.

. If you is not a problem, would I could tell what is new in the use made CM7. It may sound stupid but one thing is what it says and the other is how it behaves in the use of ROM.
I am interested in particular video, how much fps is in full use?
Sorry I really don't know what you mean. Could you try to explain?
Someone really needs to Sticky a thread like this to stop everyone asking this
This is my first Motorola phone and I actually hopped to ATT for the Atrix and so far, I really dont have anything bad to say.
Now that my intro is done... anyone have any insight when MOTO/ATT will push Gingerbread to the Atrix?
I'm hoping summer... what does everyone else think?
edit: when I poll for winter, its winter at the end of this year, not right now....
So far we're speculating for fall...
Hopefully with the attention that MOTO has with the Atrix and the Xoom, maybe they'll hire some extra engineers to push something by summer...
look at Milestone, they still on 2.1.
so I guess we won't get 2.3 until 2012
I really hope they upgrade directly to Ice Cream in winter, skipping Gingerbread. Ah well, hope springs eternal, as they say...
Crap in one hand and wait on gingerbread in the other, see which one gets full first.
It is bs the phone should not have been released without gingerbread.
They are already developing ginger bread. Look in dev forum. Someone had a dev dump if ginger bread at some point

Since the Atrix is a flagship dual-core, I think we'lll see it sooner rather than later. Especially since we have a Gingerbread dump in the dev forum already... that's some nice signs for a spring/summer update.
Its really interesting seeing the wide range of dates when people think we'll get it.
I would really like to see the update soon, but it doesn't look likely. It is more likely I will end up with the Galaxy S2 / iphone 5 or some new HTC phone before we see an update.
It’s always a pleasure to be the bearer of good news, especially when it comes to sharing with people what we know about an impending arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich on their Android devices. But before we do, we just want to make sure you know that this hasn’t been fully confirmed yet by Verizon. With that in mind, owners of Motorola Droid RAZR may want to mark down June 12 on their calendar, as that’s the date that Verizon apparently will roll out the ICS update for the two Droids.
According to internal sources quoted by CNET, the OTA update to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for both Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx will be pushed out on June 12. While there were plans to bring it out earlier, there was an issue with the server that was supposed to deliver the update — hopefully that’s been dealt with now.
The June 12 date certainly still falls in line with what Motorola has written on its website, where the ICS upgrade roll out for Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx is expected to start in Q2 2012. In this case, the end of the second quarter more like. As always, we’ll let you know once we have more details. Feel free to share with our readers if you have some information or heard otherwise about the ICS update for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR Maxx.

What's up with all these threads on ICS for non-Atrix phones?
Motorola said Q2 for the Droid RAZR. Q2 is almost at an end. If that's any indication of future performance, ICS for the Atrix may not come until closer to Q4.
Maybe this is great new for us. That update might have something usefull for our devs. Of course, not drivers, but maybe our very first Blur ICS Rom. plus Webtop 3.0 (Tablet ICS). Idk, maybe im too positive Lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola decides to push it back in late Q4.

I wouldn't be surprised if at&t blocks it all together to try to get people to buy there already ics enabled phones. Or if they dont have a selection to block it so people will hold out for the next newest thing they'll get.
I'm hoping we'll see the soak test at the end of July and OTA by August just like last year's Gingerbread update.

I still think late Q3/early Q4. IMO the carriers will be more to blame getting their bloat on there. Then again all it really takes is one carrier worldwide, and CM9 will truly be in full effect.
I could care less about stock anyway. Once CM pulls out what it needs, I'll be wiping my phone for some CM9 goodness...

The European Atrix is not very likely going to get ICS - back in February they first marked it as coming in Q3 and then set it back to Evaluation & Planning.
So I wouldn´t be suprised if they cancel the Update for North America. See, the Atrix is 1.5 years old and although it still can be regarded as "High End", there are other, newer phones from Motorola in the pipeline. Call me glass-half-empty, I´m just realistic. Motorola, like any other company, has to make profit and shelling out money for an update for an outdated device (yes, it can be considered as such since there is already an Atrix 2) is just a service.
I still hope to see my Atrix rocking fully functional ICS, but I wouldn´t be suprised if it never happened.
Just my 2 cents

I hear what your saying, but I think the update is more of a public relations move. Our phone was only 8 months old when ics came out. There was lots of negative feedback towards moto for the response time about ics. If they dropped support on a flagship phone they would lose customers indefinitely.

This makes little sense.
If a customer sees that their device is "old" compared to others, and realizes that the issue is lack of support from Moto, the response will be to buy another brand of phone.
On the scale of things, it is not a big effort for Moto to release for other devices based on the same platform. I would imagine the true engineering effort is almost nothing, and the bottleneck is just getting it thorugh QA.
I would be very surprised to not see an AtrixG4 released in August.

I love my Atrix, and don't see any other device, for now, to replace to. However, I really doubt if I will buy another Moto device, with the only excepsion of a Moto-made Nexus. Moto's policy of locking the bootloaders, along with a very questionable updating history probably burned Moto's future for me, which is quite a shame since I really love their building quality and simple-and-non-cloned designs.
