I have a friend and his touch screen just stopped working yesterday for no apparent reason, anyone have any thoughts/suggestions maybe??? I know its probably a long shot but I thought I'd at least try. Thx in advance.

If the phone is still on but only the the screen is no responding odds are that your digitizer has failed.

From what I've seen, others with similar problems have returned their Nexus 7 to the store they got it from and exchanged it for a working N7. I would recommend you do the same. If you got yours from the Play store, start an RMA. If you got it from a B&M store, exchange it.
Since you've only had your N7 a week, you shouldn't have any problems exchanging it.

It seems like it's an issue with the touchscreen itself. I have no idea how to verify or solve this issue, though. That's why I would personally exchange the N7 as defective. I would think that since your problem is clearly demonstrable, it would be easy to exchange or RMA.
But there may be a solution around that someone else has heard of. If anyone with greater knowledge of touchscreen issues wants to weigh in on this, please do.

I just started seeing this issue. At first it was only happening within apps. I thought it was issue with maybe stretching the app to a larger screen. But I started seeing it on the home screen.

There was a fix posted here somewhere for a package called surfaceflinger-fix.zip you flash in recovery. Made a huge difference on the touchscreen non responsive issue.

and when you turn off display and turn on again problem will fix
I have also experienced this. I I didn't try turning screen off then on but I rebooted then it was fine again.
I'm more inclined to think that this is a driver bug than a hardware fault

Think their could be a fault with my screen its darker at the top

Problem 2 of 2. The first problem was separation down by the usb port. The device was splitting into two. So I tried to charge it just now, and cracked the screen in the process.
Screens most definitely broken and un responsive.

Hello!
Just got my Nexus 4 and I am loving it. But my Lockscreen sometimes freezes when I hit the power on button, or it is at least unresponsive. I have to turn off the screen and turn it on again to unlock. This happens everytime the phone has been locked for a while.
Any fix for this issue or should I get my phone replaced? Seems software related

I have the same issue and wants to know the reason.
I have the same problem, and I think i have found a way to replicate the issue.
1. Turn off the screen.
2. Wait around 5 seconds.
3. Put three fingers on the screen at the same time.
4. And immediately without moving the fingers turn on the screen.
At this time the touchscreen doesn't respond or it has some kind of lag and you have to reunlock the screen to make it work again.
Can anyone test this?
Sorry for my english.

Ive been having this issue for a while, even through the most recent update. I tried the three finger thing, and it doesnt freeze it. Anyone find any fixes yet? Maybe it's an app?
Happens to me too, I thought I was the only one.

I can reproduce using this method. It's very annoying when it happens in the wild though, I was unable to unlock at all the other day, had to power off and on the device. Also wasn't able to answer a call !!!

i have the same issue too. I thought my unit was defective.
So is this a software or hardware issue?
Hi,
I seem to have the same issue. It renders my phone useless. While trying to figure out what exactly is affecting it. I found if i enable under developer option >> input >> show touches the next time this issue happens i can see that the phone screen is constantly being touched (w/o having any finger on screen).
I am also awaiting any solution for this issue.
Let's just hope that this can be corrected with software.

Hey guys, my N4 has all of a sudden stopped working correctly. My display doesn't register touch going horizontally across the middle of the screen. Especially where you adjust the brightness and sound. It really sucks and a factory reset doesn't help. Anybody heard of this? Any help offered? For what its worth, I'm unrooted with an unlocked boot loader.
