Ultimate flashers - Blade General

Hi, i found this in the general android thread. Im just wondering if anyone tried this and if its safe...
Heres the link to thread with videos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622008

Why do you want these tool? The Blade have already his own tool like TPT or some recovery
Send from my ZTE Blade!

A tpt seems easier, just put the files on your sd card & do the 3 button grip. Don't even need a computer, never mind any lame windows software.

[FIX] New Vega Flash Updater Not Working For You?

Hi all
The new vega flash updater only works if the model in the buid.prop has not been edited. So i you have installed my rom-add on, or other roms the chances are it will not work. To solve i have made a update.zip for those who do not have root. Or edit the build.prop and make sure the "model" just has "vega" in the title.
See post below to edit build.prop manually.
Surprisingly, the app called "SGS Tools" will allow you to modify the build.prop file in your Vega.
Thanks, i did not know you could edit it on the vega.
It has to be something with "Advent Vega" for me. I could be so easy thx ganja for the awesome research!!

Hi there,
I would recommend flashing the stock v1.09 firmware, that has flash as default. It is available from the advent website. Pauls r8 is based from the v1.08 firmware that does not included flash (paul added it). There are some newer ways of getting the market and Gapps on v1.09
As for my update.zip its easy. Just transfer the update.zip to you sdcard on the vega. Then navigate to settings/software tool/software update from there just navigate to the update.zip and click it. The device will reboot, and you will get a "out of a box android" a progress bar will appear for around 5 secs and install the parts.
O_G
Thanks ,
How do i Just transfer the update.zip to you sdcard on the vega ?
Do i download your update.zip file to my pc and save in a new folder and then connect vega to my pc via usb cable then follow on with your instructions ie,
Then navigate to settings/software tool/software update from there just navigate to the update.zip and click it. The device will reboot, and you will get a "out of a box android" a progress bar will appear for around 5 secs and install the parts.
Regarding flashing the stock v1.09 firmware from the advent website would that
remove all of pauls r8 Rom that ive already downloaded onto my vega ?
Thanks,

For your first question, yes you can download it to your pc and then transfer it. The vega has some problems downloading some file types. You can use a app like download all files from the market. Then you can download it directly to the vega, and then run the software tool. Both ways work fine.
Flashing the v1.09 firmware will essentially return your device to factory settings. No trace from r8 or installed apps will remain. Once you get v1.09 up and running you can use the application backup in software tool to save your apps. Do not try this with your current set up and restoring to v1.09, you might well be left with a mess.
Hope that sorts it for you
Im sorry you say
You can use a app like download all files from the market
what do you mean ?
You said

there would nt be any apps left if i'd flashed the stock v1.09 firmware from the advent website would there ?
I am very new to this whole process ........... there should be a step by step guide somewhere .
Thanks

Firstly, just stick with the first plan and just download it to your pc then transfer it by usb. Thats nice and easy.
secondly, i meant use then applications backup after you have installed all your apps to v1.09. Then if you have any future problems you can reflash v1.09 and use your backup to put your apps back.
There is a guide in my rom add-on thread located in the vega android development.
downloading....thanks
I'll try and find your guide in the rom add-on thread located in the vega android development
thankyou for trying to help me.

Come on.... Just plug your vega into your pc with the supplied usb cable. Allow the usb connection on the vega. A new drive will show up on your pc. Copy the update zip over. This will work if you have installed the usb drivers from the advent website. Again this is covered in my rom add-on thread.
Sorry come on ......... yeh sure ....... you once didnt know either.
your to unspecific with your instructions .
Does the vega have to be in recovery mode to do this ?
Allow the usb connection on the vega ........... where do we do this ?
maybe you should make a video
thanks for trying to help but unspecifics are no help to beginners .
Thanks

I am always very patient with new users, as you say we were all new at some point. I try to help and give simple easy to follow instructions. Just the info you asked about is in the instructions you get with the vega. I try to help but some times you have to help yourself.
And dont forget the search button is your friend.
I asked for specific instructions and you didnt provide them and so i remained confused ,you didnt say much at all in a concise fully explainable way , ie, do this do this and do this etc ......... i asked on here because i believed i would be given simple detailed specific guidance .

And you have got it. I like how people ask for detailed guides which they're not wanting to follow. Kinda makes you unwilling to try your luck at doing them.

Recovery

Hi Guys,
OK, so the note at the bottom obviously didn't explain well enough that this is Stockwells Recovery, he made this, not me.
Sorry for any confusion caused
Just putting this here rather than sifting through the 38 page thread
Installing recovery.img
You can download the image http://www.apksmash.com/x5/recovery.img
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY HAPPEN TO YOUR DEVICE
First thing to do is turn off the phone then hold power and BOTH volume buttons
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/vbp.jpg
That will bring up this purple screen
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/purple1.jpg
Next plug in your USB and you will be able to access it as a mass storage device
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/massstorage.JPG
The next step is simply rename your recovery.img (for later access if needed) then put in the new one (found at http://www.apksmash.com/x5/recovery.img).
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/image.JPG
Next turn off the phone (I’ve found that battery pulling is the only way out of recovery mode).
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/battpull.jpg
Then put the battery back in and while the phone is still OFF, plug in the USB. This will show the Huawei screen and boot in to recovery
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/recov.jpg
Easy enough to do Good luck and have fun!
I also have this in .doc form at http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/Recovery guide.doc
All of this would not be possible with Stockwell!
He's been a brilliant help since Day 1 of the X5
very useful
thanks
Stockwell may prefer to create a topic for which he can post a "sticky" at the start of the topic that he can update with the latest image as it becomes available.
I'll try to suggest this in a PM to Stockwell.

[Q] Rooting the GT 10.1 via a Mac??

So I've poured over the potentially relevant threads and I haven't found anything about how to go about rooting the Tab on a Mac. I've rooted a Xoom on a Mac before, which was no problem using adb, but does adb recognize the Tab as a device (given the lack of Mac file reading compatibility otherwise) or is there another trick I'll need to know? Obviously at some point I'd need the new Kies for Mac, but is this all I'll need in order for adb to work? The only guides I've seen pertain to rooting through a PC, which is no help to me unfortunately. I don't have my Tab yet, but I was hoping to get a feel for what lies ahead once it arrives.

IT WAS A DEVELOPMENT (ROOTING) QUESTION, not a general question, so now its in a less appropriate place, but whatever
Anybody?
Regardless if it was a rooting question. Development forums are for development releases like kernels, roms, mod instructions. Questions are asked in the General forum.
As for your question:
In order to get a reliable root you must install CWM. In order to flash CWM you must use nvflash which is a windows command line tool. So there is currently no way to do this from a mac. TBH there may never be a way to do this from mac. I would suggest getting a copy of windows and use bootcamp as I have.

Well at this point I do have Parallels, so I'm guessing I should be able to use that as my means of installing CWM, as per the instructions found in the thread in the development section, yes?
Correct. But! I've tried this stuff before from parallels with limited to no success. You need to boot from windows(bootcamp). So that windows has full control of your hardware. I've never been able to get paralleled windows to see things right for this kind of stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14866263&postcount=2
That is the guide that you want to follow. Once your are done flashing CWM you can then just drop the busybox and root zips on your SD card like you normally would with your mac and flash with CWM.

Yeah but in order to do this wouldn't I have to have a copy of a Windows CD (which I have no access to)? And obviously I'm not about to drop $$$ on a damn Winblows CD just to be able to root. This seriously sucks.
Now I do have access to my work PC, which runs XP. Might you have a rough estimate on how long the steps in that guide would take, should I decide to try doing it here at the office?? I could of course get the files, drivers, etc all set up in advance, so take that part out of the equation. Just wondering on how long in terms of installing CWM; once I have that I can root at home later that night.
...and actually, once I get CWM installed on the 10.1 I should really have no need to connect to it for adb (or at least very very rarely) in the future, correct? I mean it seems like the main hump to get over for a Mac owner is to just get a custom recovery on the 10.1, and after that everything else is just all about flashing (from recovery that is). Would that be a fair statement??
It seriously took me like 10-15 min to run through the steps from none root to CMW, Busybox, and root. I did it at my desk at work eating lunch on my bootcamp Win7 x64.

Blade upgrade gen2 but not with T-mob or modaco

Hello!I have a teeny tiny problem. My phone was originally a gen 1,at least i think because i can only use 160 mbs of space.I am not really new to android but now i am beat a bit.So my problem is that i read about this tpt method to reflash it so i can use the full space provided within the phone, however i also read on some sites that if i upgraded with the exe method from gen 1 to gen 2 i cant safely use the tpt method. So can someone serve me with some advice?
I have the european blade, have bought it in july 2011 in hungary and my provider is telenor,it had 2.1 so i downloaded the telenor upgrade for it to 2.2,do all the rules apply to my phone that apply to the modaco or t-mobile upgrades or did telenor do something different?Any comment would be appreciated.
Doesn't matter how you do the upgrade, TPT will always work.
It's the opposite of what agpoli just said.
If you used an official Android 2.2 update then you can't use my 'gen1-to-gen2' tpts. Wont cause any harm to try, but they just wont do anything.
The tpts are for gen1 phones, they leave the part that does the tpt as gen1 & upgrade everything needed for gen2 roms.
Official gen2 updates change the way that the phone handles tpt flashes, you'd need a gen2 tpt with all the files packed into an "image.bin" file to tpt, rather than all the files extracted as they were on gen1. You also lose 15mb of space compared to my unofficial gen2 update.
You'd have to use a hacked version of an official updater to get my partition layout.
I think Amphoras has produced some gen2 image.bin tpts that can repartition your phone & give you more space for apps (just 15mb less space than mine, because they're full gen2).
Your best option is just to repartition your sdcard & create an ext3 partition for your apps (that can be done in clockworkmod), then use s2e (on cm7) or darktremor data2ext. Then you can install as much as you like & don't have to worry about your internal memory.
Thanks wbaw for correcting me, I wanted to wrote repartition not TPT.
Only one thing I don't understand. A hungarian Blade user is asking things about his/her phone on a forum which is written in english. We have a great community on a hungarian website, the ZTE Blade topic is past over 115.000 comments now. Every single piece of information can be found at there with a little search or just reading through the first post. You can even find out how to repartition a Blade if it's Gen2. Interesting though, maybe he/she just wants to practice his/her english
Maybe they just want to ask an expert?
You're better off repartitioning your sd card than your phone, it's safer, easier & will give you more room to install apps. If you used an official upgrade then you're gen2 & can use gen2 roms.
Thanks for all the replies guys I am a he actually and the main reason i asked in this forum is because i didnt know that there is a full-fledged hungarian forum about android(but am interested now,so can you link it to me via pm or in here agpoli?) and also i found the topics and comments here very helpful while i used my kaiser with android.
So for the replies,if i understand correctly i can use gen2 tpt-s to give me better phone storage,do anyone of you know about this app called tpt helper? It gives options to download tpt-s,tpt-s with roms(i think atleast) and also gives tips for flashing them onto the phone.
I used my kaiser with repartitioned sd card but it was a bit slow for my taste, mainly i think because i could only get ahold of a 4 gig class4 microsd card. Are there any apps that could do this data on sdcard with the official rom?
Yeah I know about TPT Helper . If you used the official update, then you want to pick the stock gen 2 option when you first start the app (or from the menu if you've started it before). This should give you the option to use a few different TPT layouts all called something like "Gen 2 v1a". Most just repartition your phone, but the MMHMP one will also install the Moldovan Mile High Mountain Pie rom as well. You can choose your own layout if you pick the create your own tpt option. None of those ones contain a rom. To create one with your own layout, your phone needs to be rooted first so it can build the image.bin.

[Info]NVflash and ADB

Hi guys.
First off i want to say thanks to the guys who have made up these tutorials as its in no way my work.
Theres some great tools available for us now but sometimes just getting an understanding of what to do or where to get the files you need isnt so obvious......so this is why ive done this. Report it for removal if its surplus to requirement etc etc.
What this is - I got frustrated etc when trying to help fix a TF a few days ago. I had never used ADB, never knew how to set it up and always wondered where to type the commands some of the guys on here talk about. Although i had Nv flashed my TF it had been a long time so needless to say i got a bit pissed off with that aswell. So..........ive found the first site i used for NVflash with a video guide & ive found a tutorial on how to set up ADB to make life a little easier.
It also shows what "apx" looks like and how to update the driver, how to access "apx" mode.
Note: the nv flash guide is for sbk1 only but im sure the sbk2 owners will get a better understanding of what files they are meant to be clicking on when required
If any info is wrong or anyone wants to update with different info then please do so...........try and keep the language simple and maybe do a quick guide as it always helps.
NVflash Guide using Roaches Prime Rom (Honeycomb) but you can use the stock I.C.S NVflash files found in the developer section (download.bat or simply "download" as its named)
NVflash tutorial with video and all files required for sbk1
I.c.s stock files here Stock ics / full restore /NO ROOT etc
For Sbk2 - look for the Peri tool or Easy flasher tools and read up on Wheelie (Nvflash tools)
ADB guide as follows although i have to say i havent tried editing the path as mines looks totally different but if someone could confirm that this guide is correct then id appreciate it or if they would like to post up an alternate guide.
Windows ADB install guide
Read all info and be confident before you attempt anything / DO NOT proceed if you are not 100% - Anything you do is at your OWN risk
I now have a stock ics nvflash folder set up on my laptop incase i need to rma and i have the honeycomb nvflash folder set up just incase i want to start over. Apx drivers are in.....so good to go in an emergency.
As for ADB im going to get a little more advice from one of our experienced members before i change anything in the laptop!!
Thanks to Roach, Rayman, Bumblebee and everyone involved in the guides etc etc
If this helped hit the Thanks - if you want to donate then donate to guys that have made the new flashing tools, Roach or another dev - Not Me!
***Yes i see the Root guide thats pinned but felt this would be easier to find when searching the forum titles & now that Nvflash is available for sbk2.***
