I've never used it but why not try es file explorer? It claims to have a root explorer included.

I need flash able zip...some roms does not include any file manager.. like aokp

You could always download one from the market.
Or use 7-zip to open another ROM.zip, system/app and pull it out. Then use 7-zip again to unzip AOKP, put the file manager into system/app, rezip it and then flash it.
File managers are freely available. Is there a reason why you can't get one from the market. No SIM or WIFI access, maybe?

thank you
OP-thank you.
Many timse now I have flashed on the run. Some times I am on limited data or in a no coverage area. And then the times I don't want to install gapps.... yes... this is very useful.
@woodrube- thanks for the tip on the 7zip trick... I don't know why but I never thought about that. I extract stuff like that all the time... I feel stupid not thinking of that. That will be most use full next time I pan fry bacon. thank you. :highfive:

Xplore is a pretty good file manager. Its user interface us really great for copying files and stuff

The easiest way is to open a rom zip file with 7zip and simply drag your favorite file manager to to /system/app/ folder.
Or you can use this premade flashable zip file and put in your own apks to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572962

i found this quite helpful. i use wifi to connect to the market and having a file explorer from the get-go helps me enter my wifi credentials through a text file vs having to manually enter ridiculously complicated passwords by hand. not to mention my google account credentials. thanks

does this works on every phone?

Nope, just on Android phones

i was looking every where for this. hope works. ty

big thanks.worked perfect on my s advance (aicp rom,4.4)

Download: T-Mobile MMS/GPRS settings extended rom

I remember when I got my 8125 and I had hell trying to figure out how to get the MMS settings and GPRS/EDGE settings up and running and properly configured. I also see at least two of these Tmobile data settings threads a week. So I decided to make a thread posting the custom Tmobile MMS/GPRS/EDGE extended rom that I created when trying to figure it out for myself.
It also helps if you flash your rom a lot like me
Just install the rom, hard reset and let the auto install run or you can go into the extended rom through file explorer and run autorun.exe.
(for those who don't know)
included in the extended rom is magic button, and battery status. two apps that i just adore.
your welcome! in advance for all the no0bs who need this.

mods you might want to make this a sticky for at least a week

I like 7zip. its free, opensource. I wish more people would use it rather then craking winzip, winrar. I perfer to use the 7z format for personal compression of files. it compresses much better than zip or rar.

File Download

How do i get it to download all file types, i tried downloading a zip file and it came up with this file is not supported , i have it rooted and have a file manager, it may be simple but i am new to android
do you mean download through a browser?
if you long press the link doesn't it give you an option to save it ?
zip support is built in I think, certainly astro handles them easily.
personally I tend to use xscope-gl (1.6 version) to grab files now as it supports pretty much anything.

Download a program called androzip its safe and it works awesome.
Use another browser as I found the default Android browser wouldnt let me download zip,rar or apk files. Dolphin is a tweaked android browser, which works great. I think you can download an HD version...which might suit the 5" screen better. Check it out before you buy
Dolphin hd trailer:

I wasnt as descriptive I should have been. If you download androzip it makes zip recongizable for download and it will open them as well. Also if you need to send any file over gmail you go through androzip. Open it go to the file tap on it and choose send, no zipping required.
Thanks for all the replys guys downloaded android zip and another browser and all is well thanks
Hello chaps, what browser would you guys recommend for android?

After installing new rom(s) we should install a file manager. Is there any way to install one by default, in order to reach the apk files at sdcard. (Any other solution is also appreciated.)

Srsly, delete it yourself before mods do and more member rage because you're simply not abled to use any of the 239087 fileexplorers from the market/preinstalled ones in almost every rom.

google for file manager apk and download it from the web
Thank you all for your nice (!) answers. I am aware of downloading an app from the market or can google for it too. What I have asked was to preinstall one in order not to loose time everytime for searching android market. If there is one preinstalled, why can I not see it? Where is the so called "file manager" hidden? If you answer it I will delete my thread and shoot myself to Pluton
Okay guys be nice... This is the kind of thing I hate when I log in first thing in the morning... A new guy getting his ass ripped apart for asking a question just because you don't like the question or because it's posted in the wrong forum... It's not necessary and it only depreciates the quality of the site...
Not ALL ROMs come with a file manager so it is a legitimate request. Albeit I wouldn't have opened a new thread in Development just to ask for it.
Adao File Manager is a good free file manager that can/should be included in EVERY ROM. I concur that chefs probably should include this since it's very small size-wise and is extremely functional.
That being said, it is entirely the chef's choice.
Now... This thread is located in the wrong section so I'm going to close it but I'm not going to delete it.

Xperia X10 not recognizing APKs as APKs ?

I was in another thread trying to figure out how to install xRecovery and I'm starting to think that the problem is that my phone isn't recognizing the apks as apks. Has anyone else had this problem? It only recognizes the xRecovery file as a .zip and so I can't use the installer to install it.
Why you don't just use flashtool to root and install xRecovery? That's much easier.
bro why dont you try renaming the .zip to .apk it works!try it!

I was hoping to not have to mess around with something else but I guess I will give flashtool a shot
you can always use Manual method,
just extract and copy these three files (busybox, chargemon, xrecovery.tar) from xrecovery.zip or xrecovery.apk to your Phone/system/bin directory, using root explorer (with r,w, rights)

You had to change to name of the .zip to .apk with a file manager on your phone. Maybe you had a setting turned on on your pc that prevents from displaying file extension.

i tried that and that didn't work. now i'm starting to think something is up with how my computer handles these .zip files though...now i'm trying to download install the .ftf file from this thread and when i put that file directly into the firmware folder in flashtool it doesn't recognize it as a .ftf file (and its listed as a .zip file when i download it)...this is frustrating the bajeezus out of me

ya know what, i'm not even sure right now since i've done so much ish to this dang phone in the past day lol i did figure out that i had to change the settings in windows to not hide the extensions of known file types so that i could change the .zip to .apk. Since I had already installed xRecovery I don't know if that would have solved the problem but I'm assuming it would have. Thanks for your help everyone!

Script to remove bloatware

I figured this would be a good time to learn instead of always relaying on the devs. Does anyone know how to create a script to remove bloatware that is flashable in recovery or executable in terminal?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370164
I know it's not gonna be the same as the note3, but it gives you an idea as how others have done it.
And this one is an aroma package, so it cannot be simply edited. This is more of an example for how to proceed.

I've been searching around but I can't find a system that work. There's a rom on the Sprint Note 3 forum and the Dev posted a super simple script to run in terminal using
mount -o rw,remout /system
rm /system/app/Accuweatherphone2013.apk
reboot.
to execute in terminal sh/ sdcard/*filename*.sh (file has to be on root of internal memory)
for whatever reason it's not working,
Try making a flashable zip to delete a specific app you don't want and see if that works. If it does then that should be the direction to take.
It should work... should.

As I was implying before, there is another way besides scripts in a terminal emulator...
Make a zip you can flash in safestrap. I've made you one that you can expand on.
This zip will remove a font apk file. I chose this in particular, because it's benign and won't mess up any functionality of anyone's system.
Here is the file I chose to delete:
View attachment 2460606
Using Notepad++ (available free, just google notepad plus plus) I put together this updater-script:
View attachment 2460610
Then created a zip using 7zip (also available free, use google again).
Booted into safestrap recovery and installed it.
Rebooted system and file is now gone:
View attachment 2460614
The highlighted section inside updater-script would need to have a line in it for each apk you want to delete. If it has an .odex file associated with it, you need to also include a line to delete that as well.
Try it out!

I remember that mikeyxda, he had the brilliant instant wake feature on his rom!!! I figured out how to run it using a zip. I think I would prefer that method so I don't have to run terminal every time I flash a rom. Thanks for looking out though, I will also create a script for terminal in case any one wants it.
Ah ... gotcha. I just remembered he had some kind of debloat
