Lost dialer app - Continuum General

I too have lost my phone app as two other have in [ROM]Debellare[EC09] starting on page 9. Mine disappeared when I was running a game and the phone dead locked. I am running pattielipp's EC09 Deodexed & DeBloated. I rolled back to clean d17 then let the ota updates get me to EC09. The dialertabactivity.apk is still in the system folder but, is not installed. Phone.apk is installed. I tried to fix it by rebooting to recovery, going to advanced, and wiping the dalvik-cache, no luck. I then copied the app to the sd card and deleted it from /system/app/. I then clear the caches again and rebooted. I then moved the app from the sd card to the /system/app folder, again cleared the caches and rebooted only to get no where... anyone got any ideas? I figure I'll end up re-flashing the rom once I get a chance.

The same thing happened to me, I just installed Go Dialer/Contacts EX, because I've been too busy to do anything at all lately

Partial Fix
I was able to Odin this file and get it working again.

I forget who made it, but not me. Anyway, now how do I get it back in the dock?
--press Applications

Then drag to dock...but it is not in apps anymore.

If you're using TW, go to the app drawer, hit the menu softkey, select edit, and then click and drag the Phone icon into the dock. The max number of dock items is 4, so if there's already 4, just take out whatever you don't want there and then drag the Phone one in. Hit the menu softkey, select save, and you should be good.

Apps
How do I also get it in the apps. I guess it doesn't matter.
Thanks

Well, if you have it in the dock, you don't really need it in the app drawer because even when the app drawer is open, you can always see the dock and whatever is on it. Haha
Glad I could help!

Fixed it
I found A fix. I took the EC09Debinged.tar.gz file and extracted it to a folder. Next I used magiciso to open the factoryfs.rfs and extracted the dialertabactivity.apk file. I deleted the one on the phone. rebooted recovery and used adb to push the file. Cleared the caches and it was back when I rebooted. I then added it back to the dock and it's like it never happened.

That works. I'll pass this on to Pat so he can patch it into debellare and repost. In the mean time, I would advise that any users who are having this issue, do the same as you have done.

There is the link to magic iso, if anyone needs it

Mine just went out. Gonna charge and push

Why?
Why does it just go out after some amount of time?

well this is interesting! at least i feel better in knowing it isn't dependent on debellare. and to make it better my other rom has the fix?
Everything going on is interesting! the dialer disappearing, double not able to flash anything, others having issues flashing debellare, bricking logans phone???
I guess it isn't that much but still is interesting!

some more info
Something I noticed while poking around today was that in the case of my phone the dialertabactivity.apk file size is different from the one in EC09Debinged.tar.gz. The one from the EC09Debinged.tar.gz is 755.86k, while the one I pulled from the phone is 650.91k. I also took a look inside the apk files and noticed the dates were different on several files. The defective file has an cert.rsa file dated jun 10 2009. The working file has an cert.rsa dated jun 22 2011 which seemed to match the other files in the system/app folder. Is anyone else seeing the same thing on their phones?

For those who need desktop in the browser...

I was looking at the galaxy tab section and saw a thread regarding useragents. As many of you know the old about:debug trick doesn't work on the latest 2.2 roms. Well some listed that about:useragent worked on his tab. So I got curious and tried it and guess what? It works!! A popup comes up when you type it that lets you choose between a whole hunch of useragents. Try it for yourself,

Confirmed this totally works with Hulu. What you need to do is uninstall flash player that you get from the marked with root explorer or whatever method you use and then install the flash_fixed from the link below and then set the useragent to desktop and it'll work.

I renamed the file to install_flash_player.apk and copied it to my sd card, then using root explorer I uninstalled the existing file from /system/app and copied the renamed .apk over and installed it in /system/app. Then I opened a browser window and just did the about:useragent trick, then went to hulu.com and clicked on the first video. It took about 30 seconds to load over 3g, but it started playing the video. Like they said in the previous posts, it doesn't stick, so you're probably going to have to do it every time you want to go to a site that normally blocks mobile useragents, but it does work.

That's exactly what I did. I even rebooted after uninstalling install_flash_player.apk and moving the new fixed_flash.apk (renamed to install_flash_player.apk). I then applied the desktop useragent and to my dismay it told me that I needed flash above 10.0.32.

The only other way I've gotten it to work in the past was by adding it to the zip file of the rom I'm using and reflashing - open the bionix/macnut (or whatever zip file), delete the install_flash_player.apk file, then copy the hacked .apk that's been renamed install_flash_player.apk to the zip and flash. Now that I think about it though, I did have some trouble doing this on the bionix 2.2 rom before the flash update, and I've been running macnut R10 for the past few days so it may depend on what rom you're on.

Gallery Problems

The picture folders take forever to load when I open gallery, does anyone else get this? seems slow creating previews of the pictures
i have the same issue
I went back to di18 and that problem was no more

only remedy I found was back out of the gallery, and re-enter it. It loads normal speed then
I had success a while back deleting all of my thumbnails, early on, in fixing this problem. (Thumbnails are regenerated upon launching after this). Id also check that u have the latest version of the galley that we're using. Check out the development section, and most of the roms there have that version that I haven't had probs with. I don't know what you're running (dk28.. cw3 ext4..?) If so, I'm usng the version in the Truly Epic rom, and also have used Quantum rom's.
Btw, I have a TON of image files on my sd. If you have certain directories that u don't want to appear in the gallery, u can manage them with a .nomedia file. Ask if u have questions about it.

Exactly delete your android folder on the root of your sd card. It still re generate on the next boot and your gallery will be fixed.

Just rename the folder to x.nomedia?
I just put a bunch of stuff on my phone in different folders, but photosafe and videosafe need licenses to hide things so this would be a good thing to hide them from my less-tech savvy gf and allow me to actually take the security lock off lol

hehe - in response to the first part:
no - don't rename the folder to that. basically, the .nomedia is a file the GOES into a directory that you don't want the media scanner to scan.
The .nomedia file basically says, "move along! nothin to see here!".
So, a .nomedia file would have to be in EACH of the directories you don't want to show up. Keep in mind.. this won't hide them, and in regards to ur gf... a .nomedia file won't have any affect on the history that a media player might keep... so keep that in mind
To create the nomedia file, you can either find one on your sd somewhere, and copy it (pasting into desired folders)
or
open Notepad on ur computer, save the blank file as "nomedia.txt"
Copy it to your SD, in Astro, rename it to .nomedia (with no extension). and you're set.

File transfer/system folder mod trouble

I'm running EB01 2.6 sc. Have been trying to add shut down animation but my phone won't let me modify system folder. I've flashed back to stock and used a different method for root access and tried several different file managers. Whenever I try to make a change, it tells me the folder was created successfully or the move was successful but no changes actually happen. Does anyone have any ideas?

It worked!!! Thanks a ton.......such a weird problem...why would only that particular file manager work???
Then again........maybe it's not entirely fixed. I'm now allowed to add system folders. I wasn't before. But I don't see a "move" option anywhere, to move shutdown.ogg (or whatever I'm trying to move) I only see Copy and Cut. When I choose one of those, it says "Prepare to Copy" (or Cut), but never actually does so.
Just rename the original to shutdown.ogg.old or oldshutdown.ogg . I remember that it says preparing to copy and it actually will copy the file/folder so all you have to do is navigate to the right folder and hit the clipboard icon to paste.

It can't install automatically without your permission (shouldn't).
My suggestion to get the update is Odin back to 100% full stock image. Then you can take whatever OTA is at your hearts desire. Then you know everything is so fresh, so clean :good:

That's what I'm going to do. I hear a lot of interesting things about 4.4.2 - how it breaks SD Card access etc... I am VERY happy with 4.3 with the rom I've chosen and will happily await a Clean Rom 4.4 before I even think about 4.4.
I have 4.4.2 on my Nexus 7 2013 tablet and it's good - hopefully it'll mean even better battery life. Pretty happy with the 2x battery life increase after I've rooted. Here's to hoping for more in 4.4.2.
Fyi - googled and I can't find anything about 4.4 coming to Note 3 via Verizon. Back when I had Droid 1 and HTC Thunderbolt us rooters got ICS way before it came out to the carriers. lol.
OP, do you have a link?
I disabled both Knox and the OTA update in MJE by using a root file explorer (Solid Explorer) and changing file permissions to 0000 ("---------") of a couple .apk/.odex files in /system/app (followed by rebooting) :
ContainerAgent{.apk,.odex}
ContainerEventsRelayManager{.apk,.odex}
KLMSAgent{.apk,.odex}
KnoxAgent{.apk,.odex}
KnoxAttestationAgent{.apk,.odex}
KnoxStore{.apk,.odex}
SDM{.apk,.odex}
FWUpgrade{.apk,.odex}
LocalFOTA.apk
This allows them to be restored at any time by chmod'ing them back to mode 0644 ("-rw-r--r--"). I suppose this is similar to "freezing" in TiBu. The first group are Knox-related and last three are involved in the OTA, but it might be sufficient to only disable the SDM{.apk,.odex} files.
cheers

Rename them to .bak files.
If I move the file to my sd card would that do the same thing as disabling them? Would it mess up my OS not to have it in my system file.
I do not see how to rename any file? Please explain the process of renaming.

I haven't used root explorer, but I know that both Solid Explorer and ES File Manager have a way to change the file permissions mode - usually by press-and-hold on the file name, and then select "Properties" or some such from the pop-up menu.
You can also rename them if you want as suggested above (but obviously don't delete the {.apk | .odex} suffix so you won't get the two of them confused) - for instance Foo.apk -> Foo.apk.bak and Foo.odex -> Foo.odex.bak
[Edit] Also: Some root-aware file explorers make you manually remount /system in rw mode before you do anything, and some take care of it for you. If your permission changes / renaming operations fail, it's because of that. (Solid explorer just does it for you).

Usually there is a menu in your file explorer which is brought up by long-pressing on an individual file name. I would recommend you leave the files in place and either rename them or make them unreadable (mode 0000) - moving them to the SD card and back will destroy the SElinux extended attributes of the files (if any). Then a couple months from now you won't need to remember where they are. They won't do any harm just sitting there.
Do I take out work apk and put in bak instead?
Got it thanks

If you have root you can download fx file manager and the root add on from the play store or a similar root file manager. This will allow you to rename the files you need. You can move or delete them if you want. All the custom ROMs remove them without issue. Another option would be to purchase Titanium Backup Pro and freeze the apps with that. That is my preferred method with a stock rooted rom because all you have to do is unfreeze them and then unroot to take the OTA. With that in mind I would heed the advice of others and stay away from KitKat until a root method is confirmed if you value having root access.
Edit @bftb0 beat me to the answer when I was typing...
Just changed it and the app became a blank. When I put back the app and took away the bak the app did not appear again it is still a blank what do I do to get it back in system tray. Right now it is a blank page?

There will be plenty of lemmings that rush to the sea, afraid that they are going to miss something by not downloading an update on day one.
So, wait a week or two to see if any of them make it back to shore with their root privileges still intact. Their pain will be your gain. You'll also have the benefit of reading review articles on-line that will tell you if there is anything compelling in the update; my guess is that your phone already works quite well.

Extremely confusing and vague language "changed it", "the app became a blank". also "system tray" and "put back". Huh?
Don't use pronouns such as "it". Nobody knows which "it" you are talking about.
It is possible that your file browser needs to "refresh" it's listing after a file name change. Sometimes file managers have an explicit "refresh" in their menu, or in other cases, you just visit a different folder in the file manger and then return back to (e.g.) /system/app folder to get the refresh to occur.
Hopefully all you are doing is manipulating file names.
Titanium will not work with Note 3. It actually semi bricked my phone. I was told not to Install it. The app whose name I changed then changed back is still there the original icon is just not there. I think everything is OK but got nervous not seeing the icom
I think the icon just disappeared. I first changed the name as you suggested adding bak. The icon disappeared but it showed a blank page icon.Then I wanted to make sure I could put it back so I removed the bak. After I removed the bak then rebooted. The icon never appeared again? When I open file manager and look at it the symbol is a question mark.

I learned my lesson on my last phone. It was a S3 with an unlocked bootloader. I HAD to get the update despite the warnings not to. Within 10 minutes after that I tripped knox trying to get root and the wifi stopped working. That mistake cost me $400.00 for the phone N3 I have now. Verizon was "kind" enough to give me $300.00 off any new phone despite my mistake. No more going down that road for me. Yes, I am quite happy with this phone, even with the locked bootloader.

Trust me it works fine and won't brick your phone if you use it properly. At worst you would have to Odin back to stock if you deleted important files by mistake.
I don't think anything is wrong with the system. It is OK to have a ? mark instead of the icon right?

[Q] Auto-Rotate no longer works

I am on 4.4.2, rooted, goldeneye26 rom.
I am an idiot, I backed up everything with TB, but before I got around to copying it to my computer, I formated my sdcard because it was having issues
I removed some bloatware and now my phone does not rotate anymore. The issue seems to be tied to the samsung hub being removed
I found this thread, but for a different device, I tried the idea mentioned, getting a file from the rom's zip and moving it to the device, but it did not work for me. ( I was able to move it by getting write permission )

There is a post later on in there that has a download to a zip file...the zip file contains a library file like in the first link, but also has a META-INF folder with a couple files, I could not find this folder on my phone, could this be something I clash with safestrap since it is a zip?

No one? Figure I'll at least try one bump in the hopes that someone who might have an idea might see it.

The META-inf will not be on your phone. In it is what tells the zip file what to do. It is flashable on your phone but I don't know of it will work or not.

It did not work, guess I'll look into manual rotation options, hopefully I can find something. Don't feel like reflashing my rom
I had the same problem before and goldeneye used to have a rotation fix in the add ons section that fixed it I still have the zip on my phone if you need it.
