Hey guys ,
My motorola defy has stopped working .
The motherboard crashed.
Can any one tell me what will be cost of a new motherboard and where to find it.
and if i take it to serivce centre will they be able to tell if it was rooted or not.as it is still in warranty.
I dont have much of a idea about phones but there is a few things to consider, whether it would make a difference I am not sure as its rooted or not.
If you have altered the hardware IE overclocked the CPU or any part of the phone I say that if they found out its rooted and overclocked then its your fault.
If it is a hardware issue then just rooting a device (if this is all you done) should not affect the hardware or put extra strain on it. But I guess they can say the warranty is void from it, even if it did not contribute to the problem.
Are you really sure its the motherboard? As I say not to sure about phone but have built and repaired many PC's and laptops. Some times it is not what you think it could be something totally different.
i took my defy to service centre near me they were not able to make it run after trying every thing ..
So they said all they could do is to replace the motherboard as they were not authorised to change any thing on the motherboard but as a whole ..
so i have given to them for know but the question is that will they be able to access the internal memory now .
if yes then they might discover as i was overclocking it but only till 1 ghz .which never can crash defy's processor and motherboard(i guess)

maybe MB crashed by overclocking, overclocking heated the MB.
i dont remember my defy getting heated up so badly that mb would crash so fast.
but as far as i remember last time the processor was working fine as i was able to run recoveries from there and only problem was with usb(which would allow the defy to charge but not detected by defy) and then some how the performance deteriorated so much that the processor even stopped working.
but what i am looking for is can they access my internal memory??

Hi all,
I have the following issue, my Touch HD won't turn on anymore. I have tried a few tips and tricks that I found on the forum but non worked, so the only option I have now is to send my Touch HD to HTC for repair.
My Touch HD has a costum HardSPL, I can't flash it back to stock because the phone won't turn on anymore.
Will HTC check this if the mobo is the problem?
Or is there a way to flash to stock without turning on the phone?
I don't think there is a way of undoing the customization without powering on, or taking it apart and changing the mobo.
If its truely bricked though how would they know what was on it if they'll have to change the mobo before it powers on anyway?
Thanks for your reply.
Are the rom chips part of the mobo? in that case it might be my way out...
I just want to know how far HTC would go to check for "user-error".
Has anybody been in the situation?
Haven't been in that situation.
All i can speculate is that if the phone is dead because of some sort of defect or damage on the motherboard, then I don't think that HTC are going to catch you out on having a cooked rom, I don't think their RMA dept would take the time needed to run the flash on a new board, and you'd just be successful with the warranty if thats the caste.
If the phone is bad due to something other then the main board then chances are they may reject warranty and expect you to pay to have it fixed, again though, I dont know for sure, this is all just speculation.
oh and yes, the mainboard houses the cpu, ram, gps, wifi, internal flash (rom), even the card reader and sim reader, although there are technically two parts of the mainboard, the part with the flash is the part with the cpu and ram, so i daresay if theres no life in the phone at all (and you've tried another battery or direct off the charger and still get no power) then chances are its that board.
the power button however, is attached to the top flex PCB, so if here is where your problem lies, then your mainboard may not be at fault.
My htc doesnt turn on or work or charge unless i make it really cold like putting it in the fridge or freezer for a couple of mins, then it turns on by putting in battery and sticking in usb (because my buttons have snapped the flex cable) anyways it turns on and i have this russian rom flashed by previous owner, i managed to sync it with active-sync and i clicked explore it has wierd folder names like "?????" i click delete but windows doesnt let me because it says the filename should not contain "?". Then after a couple of mins maybe 2mins the phone switches off then vibrates 7 times then sometimes loads at htc splash screen?
and to make it work again ill have to make it cold again???
some details
Its a T-Mobile Version
The phone doesnt get hot?
its running windows mobile 6.5 daltt roms
and i updated the radio to Leo_Radio_15.40.50.07U_2.12.50.02_2
I think your battery is missed up, you need to replace it with a new one. try ebay.
as for the files with weird names, if they were located in your sdcard try to run checkdisk or scandisk from your computer to fix those errors.
you might want to reflash you windows rom and format your sdcard after this to prevent it from happening again, but don't forget to backup first!
Thanks for the reply!
Thanks for the reply by the way i havent got a sd card in the phone and i really dont think its the battery problem as it charges it up fine?
i was thinking i need a new motherboard as cpu is overheating but im not sure thats why im asking!
My HD2 acted like that (needed to put in fridge to work). Sent it for repairs and they replaced the motherboard.
Cheers
Yes mainboard CPU BGA issue probably.
you might find spares on this site or try buying one with a broken screen & you will have mainboard & button parts you need plus other parts can be sold on to recover costs ...

Ohh well i dint really want too spend money...

would that work??
can you also tell me where i could find a motherboard thats working in the uk and could you give link please
thanks.
Please ive got no phone
ive got no phone!
please i really need help, dont leave me.........
The thread on solving the over heating problems is a thread on how to make a different heat sink for the HD2. And also heating the processor up to maybe solve the issues of the balling of the processor as the processor itself can not be removed without making the rest of the main board unusable. But the process that you must go through in that thread is not just for your average Joe to do. If you mess up you will be forced to replace the main board. So my advice to you if you are not skilled at such technical repair work is to just buy another mainboard or a HD2 you can harvest the mainboard from, oh and it needs to be a mainboard for the T-Mobile version too as that is what you have.
I have a personal theoory about why the freezer trick works. First is the obvious thing that it cools down the CPU and NAND chip and allows it to operate for a short period until it warms up again. The second is that cold makes matter shrink slightly, those causing a CPU that has lost some of the connections to the balls under it that make contact to the mainboard to temporally become reconnected.
newbie guide please
Okay I think for my last resort I'm going to do the guide in the thread but can somebody PLEASE make a super easy newbie tutorial on how to do it (I know it will take time but please),without the expensive equipment that I don't have. Could I use a lighter or a candle or what about the oven or a hair dryer anything that would be at home please.
Oh yeah who ever provides the information that works I will donate money to you! Only if it works (yes I do want my mother board back)
Too Late

I have similar problem. What did you do that killed it?
Hello everyone, im just so damn happy with my droid pro with CM7.. its just sweet... buuuuuuuuut........
Well my sifi signal is too low, i dont know what is this, i have tested in everyway that its not a software malfunction or anything firmware related, so today i went to my local repair guys, and they tried to put an extention on the antenna ( or so they told me).. but it didnt helped.. after that they told me that one module in the mainboard that boosts the signal may be damaged and that they couldnt change it cause the part isnt sold as a spare part.
What can i do, please im begging you i dont want to get rid of the phone just cause of this..
Any suggestions?
Oh and before anyone tells me to send it to motorola.. well they told me they dont take care of this device anymore, and if they do they would have to change the whole mainboard and that costs the same as the phone itself.
PLEASE HELP....
Was it poor before changing to CM7? If it is a component issue, there's nothing you can do about it short of replacing the mainboard (maybe get a used Pro on eBay, they're around $30-40). My Pro has pretty poor WiFi performance relative to my other devices (laptops/KFHD).
Can someone help me, i went to a service center of phone's [not samsung service center]
i let them change my charging pin.
and when i go home my camera does not work anymore!
even the sensor does not work!
so i went back so the service center, they told me they will just text me if THEY got a new board.
they told me that they will replace the board for free.
question is how come my camera didn't work and sensor?
either
they broke a connection to the board
they replaced things with wrong parts
or
you are using wrong/buggy firmware/rom
if you have reflashed stock rom via odin then its a hardware fault
Probably a hardware fault coz messing up with hardware isn't easily fixable.Always go to your phone's manufacturer service center as they know much more than any of the local service centers out there.
thank's guys! i think this is a hardware problem. i reflashed stock rom and still nothing. i watched the tech guy changed my charging pin
the way he uses the heater is wrong, it is too close to the board, and i think the board got damaged.
problem is they are still not texting me
i can use my phone on daily basis, im not shooting any camera with this 2mp camera and sensor is only used for calling right?
hmm im planning to send my phone to samsung service center, should i take it there?

sensors can also be used for things like gps and accelerometer to get the position of the phone
If they were any good, they should of done like I do with laptop/pc repairs, a full pre and post report so if something isnt working you know if it was working beforehand and who is to blame - sounds like this company will just take your money and not take responsibiility - If they have an office/shop go there and demand a refund although it maybe hard to prove responsibility after leaving the shop if they want to argue about it.
Best thing is to take it to a known trusted dealer

Hello. I want to start off and say that even tho i used a lot of phones Samsung fits me bets. With that in mind i want to tell the story of my broken s4 i9505. I bought it new and used it about 2 years until i got and iphone 5s. The phone remaind in a drawer with the intention of selling some time but forgot about it, then i used the phone once a week or so paired with moto 360 because iphone could not connect and used the watch only for time .(bluetooth worked fine remember this). Anyway i decided to sell it and i had all my apps and accounts in there so i thought the fastest way was to factory reset it and make it fresh so i can sell it (rom was not stock at the moment, i have no ideea what rom it was). I sold it to a friend that told me he wanted to pair something with it thru bluetooth and bluetooth didnt work...i sayd that it wasnt possible because all i did was a factory reset and that couldn't damage anything. Things got worse as the phone was charging very very slow and if it got over 90% baterry would not respond to anything (red led at 90% and got to green when full but still no response from phone) and the only thing to do is to remove battery. Then i took the phone back, got it a new battery but that didn't changed anything, took it to some repairs shops that didn't ever hear about this problem, i had it chance the software but that didn't do anything. The problem i suspect it is and i saw a few other posts online was the bluetooth module would stop working for some reason and do this to the phone. Currently i don't know what to do with it and i don't want to sell it just for part for 50 euros or so. Also i read that the bluetooth module can't really be changed as a spare part because it's part of the motherboard and that means almost all the phone. Phone is in mint condition, i didn't damage it before the sell , the buyer didn't damage it or messed with the rom...Another thing i noticed is that in settings under bluetooth address says unavailable. Can someone please help me ? I can provide more information about serials and stuff if needed. Also wi-fi doesn't work now.
Mine also show unavailable under Bluetooth address, but it works.
Are you currently on the stock rom?
Yes is stock. Android version 5.0.1 I9505XXUHOJ2. If i toggle bluetooth on says starting bluetooth then after 5 seconds it disables. I guess the problem is from hardware not software. So fast battery drain is not normal something is using a lot of energy.
As far as I know, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules are in the same physical chip, therefore something might be physically broken. Here's a clip I came across while trying to fix my phone's Wi-Fi and I think it's exactly what might fix yours. (Should be very cheap to do too.) I think basically what he's doing is putting some flux on the board then reflowing it with the hot air gun.
Before taking that step, be sure to exhaust the possible software fixes. I'm not sure, but updating the bootloader and modem MIGHT fix it.
My wi-fi started working again it just took a while but the bluetooth does exactly the same as in the clip so maybe that's the problem. I don't understand why does so glue over it make it work...also for me it's hard to turn the phone off because the screen goes black but the blue led still stays on and the only way to turn it off completly is to take out battery. Maybe this will solve the battery problem aswell ?
