Was happily surprised to discover that the SAR level of both the Galaxy S2 and Note fall on the "very low" end of the scale! (on a scale which has, Very low -- Low -- Medium -- High)
Iphones generally fall under high and alot of blackberrys are also high.)
No shortage of (scientific) evidence/concerns over radiation and it's effect on our health etc... yes there is alot of conflict in opinions blah blah yes there are so many other dangers in life and i can be hit by a bus tomorrow blah blah
whether you believe/care about this (potentially your health) or not, this is most certainly a good thing in any case for us who have this phone ... and for me a good enough reason to not buy an Iphone :-D
Thank you SAMSUNG. I Hope you continue with low SAR levels!

I'm sure it's because some country in the world requires very low ratings. Personally I would like to see a little better radio performance and a medium rating. But since I stream a lot music and have the phone in my pocket, I'm sure my little swimmers don't see it that way.

WHO has decided that it is harmful and may be a cause of cancer or brain tumor. So low SAR is definitly a very good feature. Samsung has been serious about SAR. That is one of the reasons why I have been using Samsung phones only. Thanks for the post.

That's the problem. Some say it's "dangerous" and some say it's not. The last i read, it's not. But it's never bad to be cautious about these things, and don't forget that sigarettes were "healthy" 50 years ago.

I should say that the WHO errs on the side of caution quite a lot of the time, and that rating they put on mobiles was only as a 'Possible' cause, a group which also included coffee and pickled vegetables (think gherkins or whatever takes your fancy).
Many studies in Europe found no link, I can't remember where but there was a large Dutch or Danish study which took place over many years and found no significant link. And a spokesperson from Cancer Research UK also said there has been no definite link found.
It is sensible to take precautions but hopefully this will calm fears of using your mobile.
Any android phone nowadays kick Iphones ass idk why people keep comparing our awesome android devices to that crap phone. Small screen and mediocre to no customization at all come on.

yeh, it is very nice to hear that note has so low SAR, to be honest i dont care about SAR and etc but still it is nice behaviour from samsung ;D
I try to use a headset with my iPhone as much as possible for this very reason (and also because I get mild headaches when I make a phone call with my 4S over ~3 minutes).
I don't feel I make enough phone calls for this to be an issue for me, though, especially considering I make most phone calls with a headset.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/radiation-airtube-headset-iPhone-BlackBerry/dp/B004AWEI3O/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt
and also one called rf3 live (for both ears) but the 'air' part of the headphone is shorter than the air low's
ive tried both since i know someone who has them.. Bit flimsy construction but no problems with the sound and block practically 100% of the radiation going to your head they say.

read up on some rumors - iP5 will be thinner, slightly bigger edge-to-edge screen, dual core CPU, and I am sure a bunch of other cutting edge features. Apple is a respected power, can't deny that.

Still, nothing more than a dedicated blogger could do - Where are the measurements?
Wifi: maximum range and throughput over range
Cell radio: quality of GSM / UMTS reception in known good and known bad spots
GPS: TtFF cold and hot, accuracy over time, both stationary and moving; comparison to a reference standalone GPS, ...
Audio: freq response, noise floor, harmonic and non-harmonic distortion, stereo crosstalk etc.
Screen: brightness (min and max), contrast, color accuracy
Camera: see any decent digicam review (but they did have full-res shots, yay!)
I'm not saying build a testing lab, but once upon a time the difference between an amateur review and a professional one used to be the testing equipment and methodology employed.

Thinner, I don't know, it's gotten a bit ridiculous by now. The phones are getting hard to hold as it is. Same for edge-to-edge - where am I supposed to hold the thing? Even with current gen phones I manage to obscure the screen or even trigger something with my hand.
So I think we're golden!

lol. i chuckled when you said iphone killer. this thing obliterates the ip4. now ip5 is going to be a tough battle, but i think the "smarter" users will agree the sgs II will be better. From where i stand though, the only thing iphone keeps killing android is with extremely user friendly ui, especially how gorgeous apps look on the platform. Has anyone seen the dj app for ipad. i mean you cant get better than that. And secondly, the apps availability, android has maybe 50 good games, while iphone has over 500..same with regular apps.
I hope android starts focusing less on (sorry to say)useless features like live wallpapers and focuses on making the dev kit more polished like apple. Hardware wise, theres no doubt the sgs2 is a monster.

Agree + the GPU that sucks. Internal memory is easily fixable though.
Unfortunately, apple can't afford to simply "catch up" with their android competitors. They need to come up with something new to make people feel "special" just because they have an iphone. After all, Apple has always been about making you feel like you were part of a VIP club when buying their products.

Ah, Pandora has opened another box!
The Samsung Galaxy S III
(And its potential problems)
So given the history of Samsung phones, since the release of their Galaxy S + the many variations thereof, we can expect a whole bunch of things to go wrong (very wrong) with this new device. Samsung has not really proved any competency in neither quality control (QC) nor customer service (CS). In fact they have been rather disastrous in both these regards. So where does it leave us? I leaves us with a very high probability that many...many things could go bad in their new "flag-ship". (100 year Titanic anniversary?)
So I bet a beer that at least two of the following things will be broken or problematic:
8MP Camera will suffer from "pink-spot syndrome" and we will not get any camera-firmware updates that is of any improvement. Why? Because Samsung doesn't know who produces their cameras and "never knows what comes in the box". So they will put the blame on their own subsidiary company who makes (cheap copies) of the Sony camera-sensors (CMOS) and try to pass them off as their own Samsung. If indeed the camera-sensor is good they will blame Fujitsu (who will probably provide the camera processing module.)
.
Night time photography will suck, because flash is poorly designed in combination with camera, and without flash the video-mode will just not cut it in low-light areas. Auto-focus problems!
.
You will want to protect your new phone with a protective housing, since it will be neither water-proofed, nor shock protected by design. Then you will find your friends not wanting to call you because the phones advanced noise-cancellation (NC) circuitry has not been properly tuned to accommodate for a protective housing, essentially putting the circuitry in "tilt" mode, causing a wide variety of problems extending from unbelievably annoying echos for the person who calls you, or for you, or too low volume, or just generally bad sound for any or both sides of the conversation. (Who said that you actually wanna talk on your phone?). The list can go on...
.
Weird unevenly colored areas (yellow tint) on your screen.
.
Extremely poor battery life. 4 CPU cores and only god know how many other internal application processors (modem, graphics, MHL, NFC, PMIC) constantly sitting on edge trying wake up as soon as it "hears" or "sees" something, will drain battery whether Sam like it or not.
.
Poor GPS reception, because Samsung QC technicians only tried it from their perfect office, so didn't bother to tune the GPS configuration files to make them fix fast in any geographical location.
.
Will easily grease, scratch or crack screen, since not using hardened Gorilla Glass nor oleo-phobic treatment.
.
Will automatically shut-down in humid, hot (or cold) climates.
.
Will have a very buggy baseband (radio) firmware, if it is based on a new and widely-untested chip like the Intel XG-716. Causing dropped calls, poor reception and/or other data-problems. In worst case to being able to properly receive or send SMS.
.
Will still have a stock SMS sending limit of only 10 multiple-SMS's.
.
Will be very difficult to root. Was rooted by Chainfire before entering market!
.
Will not provide for unbrickable mod or booting OS from external source.
.
Will keep all internal chips and documentation secret so that none other than some corrupt Samsung Service/Company representative can repair your phone. All chips are available in the Service Manual.
.
Have poor Wifi connection, because of interfering RF circuitry that is too complicated, even for Samsung technicians to handle.
.
When having any problem at all, you will be offered to send your phone for service that may take up to 2 months for returning back in your hands. (Usually with no improvement.) The true Samsung Take-it-or-leave-it CS policy. "It's your own fault, since you didn't have to buy this phone."
.
Causing the Linux Kernel developer society a nightmare, by introducing new and poorly written hardware drivers, without providing proper specifications (because of 13), often written by inexperienced programmers.
Well that pretty much sums it up. Did I forget something? I'm sure I did, any time Samsung releases something amazing, there will be problems we cannot imagine.
Oh, I think I forgot to say that I like (some) Samsung devices...because I don't have a choice, now that not even my old Nokia is Nokia anymore.
So what can you do, to protect yourself?
BEFORE BUYING, DO THIS:
Have your shop representative put a protective cover on your phone. Then have a friend that you can call and who can call you in various noisy and silent situations.
Take pictures in many different and low-light conditions. (All cameras work great in bright conditions, but many suck in low-light without flash.) Try the low-light focus on near and far objects. Does it focus easily?
Take some pictures of a "natural" and evenly white or bright gray wall. Check pictures for "pink-spot".
Take some photos with flash and check the resulting colors.
AFTER BUYING, DO THIS:
Take many, many high-resolution pictures of the inside of your phone, and post them somewhere here on XDA, so that we can help you when your phone eventually goes dead or "funny"!
Here's Supercurio's internal summary:

Well, SGS2 will have gorilla glass 2
If i wanted a decent picture I would use a proper camera as phone cameras in general are crap?
So you bet that a camera in a phone will be bad in low light? We have a real Sherlock here!
I also bet that the camera's picture quality will not be as good as my Nikon 1's picture quality. PM me for the shipping address where you can ship the beers.
In serious terms, I think there were not any serious problems with SGS2? SGS1 had problems with GPS and crappy file system. I think my Transformer Prime has worse problem after the latest update. Web browser gets stuck at loading web sites and then comes the "Browser has stopped" dialog, and you can continue normally when the "Wait" button is clicked. It is really annoying.

I have both phones and the only true success has been the original GT-I9100, never had any problem and still take great pictures. The i9100, however, is a real piece of crap. It should never have left the production line! Camera sucks in all aspects apart from bright sunny day. And the echo problem is still annoying the hell out of everyone. SEC never fixed either of these issues. In fact they still pretend they don't exist. I didn't bother to link to any of the hundreds of threads here on XDA about these problems.

This is interesting because I'm just making some wild speculations based historical facts. And guess, what!? I really hope I'm wrong on all points.
Well thank goodness for the thousands of early adopter beta testers. There's No Way, Samsung could beta test a phone with that many people using it before release . Of course there will be issues that's what firmware updates correct .....or not.
The device is only as good is one person's expectations of it.
The more OCD you are, the more problems you will find

Man.. the galaxy sII surpasses dozens of other phones with a plethora of advantages. This is the first time I've heard that phone be described as a piece of crap.. that's just silly. Also- not sure why the OP started a thread bashing a phone that we don't even have yet and hoping he's wrong about it all. Weird.
*for the record* I don't have the issues the Op complains about, nor do my friends NOT want to call me. Everything is gravy over here.. sounds like personal problems.

Good review, the only thing I disagree about is her comment about the phone being clunky due to its thickness. It's gotten to the point where thickness is actually a positive. Not only are thinner phones compromising in the battery department, they're actually getting difficult to pick up and are uncomfortable to hold. Phones should have a bit of heft to them. Imagine using a credit card as a phone, that would be so awkward and easy to drop/break.

Agreed. Thinner the devices........more chance something else has 'gotta give.' And NOT just the battery.
Case example: I am an unapologetic apple fanboy (generally....especially their laptops). The protruding camera on the iPhone 6 is SO un-apple.......I can't help think Jobs would NEVER have ok'd it.
And yet.......since the camera improvements in the 6 seem fairly superficial....this leads me to the assertion that the ONLY reason why the camera sticks out (and thus you can't lay it flat on a table without the wobble) is because they insisted on making the phone even thinner. Despite the fact 5s was already of anorexic proportions.
Seemingly just so they could make the thinness a 'feature' to bullet point. A shame.
I was always going to get the xperia z3c anyway as soon as I heard about it as I knew early on even the normal iphone6 would be too big for my tastes and I needed the microsd. Having visited an Apple store today, (and I don't have OCD), the camera protrusion is an eye-sore and
unnecessary compromise. Just so what, they can proudly say in the keynote '6.9mm!!'. Yawn.
when its too thin its hard to hold, too. 6-7-8mm seems ok
On Superior Auto mode, our outdoors photos actually looked much crisper than those we took on the Z3 at the same time. There was more detail at the edge of each frame and there was slightly less noise present in background buildings. Colours looked a fraction richer, too, and the level of exposure felt more balanced overall. It's surprisingly given the cameras are supposedly identical.

Yeah, thinness is NOT a feature. Water proofing, dual front-facing speakers, long lasting battery life; these are all features worth touting.
Also, welcome to Android!

This is why I will never want an extremely thin phone.

they call it a "mid-Range" handset.......
"In our continuous video playback test, the Z3 Compact's 2,600mAh battery lasted an unprecedented 20 hours with the screen set to half brightness. This is the longest battery life we've seen from any phone we've ever tested, and is a full 90 minutes longer than the Z3. With so much staying power at its disposal, lighter users should easily reach Sony's claimed estimate of two days battery life before needing to recharge it.
This is phenomenal for a mid-range handset, but the phone should last even longer if you enable one of its three power saving profiles. Low-battery mode disables mobile data, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and auto-sync, while Stamina restricts hardware performance as well. Ultra Stamina mode, meanwhile, only lets you use a few basic functions, such as calls and texts."

This phone is what the Moto X should have been all along. So glad I left Verizon.

LCD performance numbers are very similar to LG G2, only a tad more blue. That's good company to be in.

New in-dept video review, from Btekt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eilKbB10ZA0
if u ask from my part it was awesome .. buying a phone in this range is awesome with such specs .... and also with a good brand name, I was saved from buying a Chinese OEM device , I don't mean they are bad they just lack a brand name...... I don't mean every big brand is good for instance Samsung, Microsoft, Nokia ..... they all have just ruined the smartphone experience
and there is a saviour for mid rangers ...... Zenfone 2 ya I admit they were a bit poor in terms of updates and their aftermaths leading to outrageous customers and unfulfilled desires but still wat does one expect at this price range .....
I have used millions of Samsung devices but there's just one reply to Samsung , DIE SAMSUNG U DONT BELONG TO MAKE ANY ANDROID DEVICES....they don't have durability within a year my grandpa's S5 started being a jerk and gave retarded sot just 4-5 hours previously it was never less than 5 - 5.5..... note edge lags like **** even opening a folder from edge side takes 4 - 5 seconds like for wat m I giving money man.... I bought a flagship not ****
from all these aspects zenfone is way better my next device after 2 years will be either the latest zenfone, moto x (latest one , obvious) , or else any CM running device (any OEM it be)
i will always recommend asus if its continue its amazing bang to buck ratio

battery life kind of sucks
Same here. Great phone. wish the touch menus light up and better battery life. no lags here. Just got my mom the red zenfone 2 64gb

I'm disappointed by no mhl/slimport, and lack of any word on an update to 5.1.1....honestly the fact that every new device announced has 5.0 is worrisome. Might bite the bullet, and get the Moro X Pure edition(after I check reviews)
Actually does anyone experience sim cards problem?
I had 2 sim cards but sometimes I am experiencing very slow connections since the newest update in July...
I am not sure if its the new update probelm or just my carriers who is doing some crazy maintence

I'm very satisfied. Everything is at least "good enough", Memory & Performance are awesom, I like the ASUS Skin, less bloatware than Samsung, Battery is like my former Device (GT-N7000, Note 1), Camera better than Galaxy S5. And for that price :good:

It is alright. I have never been a fan of the screen. The colors just aren't that great. I have been so used to an amoled screen for the past couple of years, going back to lcd was a big change. I get sim card errors sometimes. It is fast, but I just don't like it as much as the Note 3 I had before. It has the hardware, just isn't as refined software wise to keep me interested. I'm likely going to get a note 4 or try a LG g4.
For that price (the 550ml), i could not expect something better.
It is clearly not a perfect phone (low battery, not a good brightness, cameras videos are not good) but it remains in general a good phone, i do speak about the 550ml version.

Any ways never go for samsung it will lag after few months (6-8 , to be approx) they are not even durable in terms of battery life. Lg is good , but i will recommend ZTE axon pro , moto x style or OP2 .

So far I am very pleased with the ZF2. Many complain about the battery but I get a full day and then some out of it so it is fine to me. I changed the native DPI on mine so I could use five icons on the screen instead of four so I guess that is a bit of a nitpick in a way, but I really like using the native launcher and just could not stand how huge the icons were. The screen's brightness is not a big issue for me as I don't use it in direct sunlight but a dark video is hard to watch at times. The phone is fast and does everything I want so that makes me a satisfied customer.
This one's different as it wasn't charging. I have swapped my for the s7 edge as a loaner and this article says it also has the same problem. I'm quite concerned now.
A friend of mine was on a Flight where attendant announced THREE TIMES that if you have a note 7 you can't use it or charge it.

The story does not say whether the phone was charging. The phone was in use, but that doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't charging.
On a side note. Its unfortunate this happened but why would you give your child the phone knowing about the possible risk?
Is bs is the parents didn't know with the amount of publicity this has gotten.
The phone could have been charging and the kid still using it and phones can get hoy while playing a game. A lot could have happened to cause this unless the issue is just an unstable battery regardless of use/heat

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using XDA-Developers mobile app
yes I have noticed this as well. the media is running rampant trying to destroy Samsung with the launch of Crapple 7 right around the corner.
truth comes out in this case, it was a "Galaxy Core" not a Note 7.
Lewis says the family all have Samsung phones and initially said the exploding phone was a Galaxy Note 7, the device that was recalled last week after reports that some of the lithium-ion batteries exploded or caught fire.
But the boy's mother said outside their home Monday the device is a Galaxy Core, not the recalled Note 7.

Not True wasn't a Note 7 , was a Galaxy Core that burn the boy, http://phandroid.com/2016/09/13/samsung-explosion-galaxy-core-new-york/
Actually it's quite concerning that it's happening on more than one Samsung product. Might reflect an overall laziness with qualify control

Phones across all brands have had issues with batteries. It's more of a battery issue and with how thin phones are.
Most companies go to third party suppliers for the parts.

There have been over 100 reports of iPhone 6s exploding, but no recall and no news about it. It seems like this entire thing is a small issue blown way out of proportion to aid Apple's iPhone 7 sales.
As I stated in another thread. Batteries are potentially dangerous and have been a part of numerous safety recalls for numerous products for that reason. I am not overly concerned it will happen again anytime soon with Samsung. Best odds for battery safety are now with them.
It wasnt a Note 7, as per this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote...ld_boy_in_brooklyn_not_burned_by_a_note7_but/
But guys, please take all the precautions. I am not charging my phone till 100%, no overnight charging...
Anything with these type of batteries can explode if it over heats. Playing video games and possibly charging at the same time is just a recipe for disaster regardless of the phone or device maker.
Hell put a can of soup on the stove unopened to heat up and leave it there. It will eventually explode

If that were true, it would be a reckless design choice for the phone to allow playing video games while charging.

You tell me, i dont play video games. Is it restricted to charge while playing a video game on a cell phone? Maybe it is and i dont know about it.
Can any phone distinguish video game play and not allow you to charge?

Either it works and is safe, or it's unsafe and blocked from happening. So in either case, it's not a "recipe for disaster" to try to do it. No one would design a phone in such a way that an app could make it catch fire under circumstances that the phone permits (and that there isn't even any warning about).

It can certainly distinguish heavy load, heavy battery drain, high temperature, etc.

Samsung admits these were their batteries. Chinese Note 7's got chinese sourced battery that is now being sourced for all Note 7's. Samsung batteries were also in many of the hoverboards that caught fire. Samsung said they were knock offs. Now I'm thinking otherwise.

In the first month of sales? Samsung has admitted that it is a design flaw in the battery that might allow the positive and negative to contact inside the battery. That is what causes them to flare up or explode.

They did not say it was a design flaw, they said it was a manufacturing error, not the same thing.

Still didn't answer me. Is there a phone that will stop a video or shut down if temp gets too high?
Its not a design per say, its a consequence of someone abusing their phone. Of course this was not the case with the note 7 but any phone can explode if the user abuses the device.
A phone can give you a warning of heat but i could be wrong. It wont stop what you are doing or shut down.
And im aware it can distinguish those things.
