I'm having an issue with wi-fi. I'm running Andromadus Audacity 2. Yesterday I ran into an issue where my phone was randomly rebooting. I decided to reflash the rom and when I did so I could no longer connect to Wi-Fi. I can turn Wi-Fi on but it will immediately turn back off. In settings it will only say turning wi-fi on and hang up there.
I don't think that the issue is the router since my wife's G2 and other devices we have in the house still work fine on wi-fi.
Also it's not the rom because I have superwiped and reinstalled, then tried installing cm7, and ilwt. The issue persists on each rom. I have superwiped each time before installing.
I am really at a loss for what to do, I didn't change any settings on the phone and regardless, I don't know what I could have changed that would have carried over through flashing a new rom. I would appreciate any ideas on what to do.
ETA - I have changed the radio and the kernel and still no luck.

When you say off do you mean it was absent?
When I got to /etc/wifi/ there is a file named wpa_supplicant.conf, it is the only file in the folder
the text file says:
update_config=1
ctrl_interface=wlan0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

Sorry my English is not as great as I wished it would be, this is what happens when I try to use "slang". When I say off I mean not correct. That is the correct file "wpa_supplicant.conf"
/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf --> needs rw-r--r--
/system/bin/wpa_supplicant --> needs rwxr-xr-x
I just checked my files and they are both owned by root and all works well so I guess its not an issue that wifi does not own them.

Not sure if this helps but this is what's under my /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file
update_config=1
ctrl_interface=eth0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1
Notice my ctrl_interface=eth0 (thats a zero) I'd test that out see if it fixes it, if not then I'd download another rom and extract both /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and /system/bin/wpa_supplicant files from it and replace yours. Again verify permissions are correct.

Hey I'm on lunch now, in that file it says for ctrl_interface=wlan0. I am using es file explorer, it won't let me change it there but I think I read somewhere I can create a text file saying what I want it to and place it in the folder. Not sure if that will work.
As for the other roms, wifi doesn't work on any rom that I use.

You can replace the file using a terminal emulator here are the steps
Open terminal emulator and log in as super user by typing the following
su
Make the System Partition have read/write access by typing the following
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Now you can modify the file using es file explorer
When complete make the system partition read only by doing the following
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
You can also copy and replace the file using adb, not sure how familiar you are with that but the above should work.

Hmmm, I went into terminal emulator and did just as you said. This is what it says after I pasted in what you wrote to give me read/write access:
Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory
After I did that it still won't let me change that file.
Sorry you are correct that command only works in adb do this instead of the above command
mount -o remount,rw /system
then when you are done do this instead of the other read only command
mount -o remount,r /system

Thanks I will try it, but I'm becoming more convinced this is a hardware issue.
I was on the phone today and the phone froze and I had to pull the battery. When I restarted the phone Wi-Fi was working for the first time in a week. While it was working I checked that file and it said the same exact thing. The phone then froze again (I think it was my fault because in the excitement of having Wi-Fi again I tried to update all of my apps and other things I can't do on the crappy 2g data I have at home) when I turned it back on Wi-Fi was no longer working.
So now I'm thinking that this has to be hardware. I will give your method a try.
Yea I think you are correct especially since you tried different roms. If you have warranty just unroot it and return it else keep posting here about the status and a will find a work around eventually

Well I finally switched back to ilwt and my wifi isn't working all of the time but it has worked for a few hours each day since I flashed it. Whereas on andromadus it didn't work at all for two months. Still haven't figured out what happened but at least I get to keep my G2. Although I'll probably move on the first time they put the note on sale later this year. Thanks aeliizondo for trying to help me!

I am running custom rom Rooted 2.1 v0.3.
Ever since flashing to the custom rom, when i try to push a file, such as:
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
I get the error:
Failed to copy.... Read-only file system.
I didn't have this error before flashing to the rom. Does this have something to do with superuser whitelist?
I have tired:
mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
and it didn't work and I tired:
adb remount
winch returned:
Operation not permitted.
This is ticking me off since I didn't have this problem until flashing the rom.
EDIT: Now if I try:
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media,
I get:
Permission denied.
This is crazy.
I need help also. Rooting for first time and trying to get recovery.img on and keep getting read only errors. Tried remount to no avail. Help please

I had the same problem. From what I could tell, I had the wrong ADB driver somehow. So I downloaded the drivers from the HTC website and went to device manager (Win7) and updated the driver software which fixed the problem. But I think i just lucked out when i stumbled onto that, I feel a blind retard with epilepsy trying to draw a circle on an etch-a-sketch when I'm doing things like rooting. But, it couldn't hurt to try it.

I think the proper permissions were not set for this ROM. Hopefully jcase can modify the file and re-upload the ROM =)
at least that's what I've gathered... someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong
edit: I looked at the script file and it seems like rw permissions are set properly???
jcase - any insight?

I've searched and can't seem to find a way to solve the issue.
I'm trying to install a metamorph to make the engadget widget transparent and I need to movie the apk from /data/app to /system/app (according to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6319426&postcount=102)
In doing so I've received the cross-device link error.
I've tried these sets of commands:
(note: I am typing the below commands from memory, I got them by searching and I typed them word for word even if the commands below may be incorrect)
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock5 /data
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mv /data/app/name.of.apk /system/app
HTML:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mv /data/app/name.of.apk /system/app
I've even tried using root explorer and while it shows a progress bar and says it's moving the apk, nothing happens.
I've tried rebooting the phone and the issue still persists.
Can anyone help? Thanks!
Go into /data/data and /data/dalvik-cache and delete all files affiliated with that apk and reboot, the move a copy of the apk file to /system/app, fix permissions and reboot.
let me know if this works.. i'm curious. i had to resort to
Code:
cat /data/app/name.of.app.apk > /system/app
to get it to work. i read somewhere that mv doesn't sit well on android 2.1. cat worked fine, but maybe i didn't realize if mv required the data & dalvik-cache to be wiped.

Try putting the apk file directly on the c: drive, go into adb shell, do command: mount /system, then command: exit, the command: adb push c:\name of app.apk /system/app
That works for sure, but I'm still left wondering why I can't move a file from one directory to another on the device.

I need to uninstall swype and reinstall it. Ive tried over writing it with the default apk but its not removing a theme I installed with metamorph. If I can uninstall it, a fresh install should fix it.
I just dont know how to remove it
I don't know if you want to go to this extreme, but I did. I fudged up the phone real good by removing and installing stuff. I finally got fed up and flashed it back to stock and applied root again. This time I'll keep my fingers out of it. I hated touchwiz in the beginning, but now it's kinda growing on me. I've never had an iphone but the home and drawer remind me of iphone wannabe. It's okay for now.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
There a tool over at sdx-developers that can remove that when root explorer can't. I forget the name of it. There's also a pay app in the market that I think is called root manager that can successfully remove crap too. I didn't have much luck putting the general swype 1.61 in. It refused to install. That's when I think I just flashed it back to factory image. A full reset/wipe wouldn't fix it either.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I had to do this a few days ago for similar reasons. This is what I did:
First, you have to open your browser or other app with a text field. Select the text field then long press the text field again and switch the input method to the stock android kb.
Next, you have to make sure /system is mounted as r/w. The early versions of the the rooting scripts did not remount correctly but the newer ones supposedly fix it. I just looked in the initial rooting .bat file (on the PC) for the remount command and used adb to remount /system.
You can test if it's remounted correctly by renaming Swype.apk to Swype.bak with Root Explorer then going up a level and back to /system/app. If it's not mounted correctly it will show as Swype.apk again. If it shows as Swype.bak still, then you just have to copy the original Swype.apk to /system/app and then switch input method back to Swype!

yea its mounting in r-r, thats def my problem, cant change swype.apk with root explorer
so i need to re-root?
I don't know what's causing it but root explorer doesn't seem to work properly on the phone (not sdcard) filesystem in the system app folder. It's stuck in rw mode. People have said different things why but I forgot. I did noobnl's latest flash and it's still not working right. His script is removing the old root and my phone doesn't have that on there. I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe I should look for another root file manager.

I don't know if re-rooting will fix it or not. You could try. Here's the exact steps I took using adb from the PC:
Code:
adb shell
su
ls /system/app/S* (just shows Swype.apk is in fact in /system/app)
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
mv /system/app/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.bak
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk is now Swype.bak)
cp /sdcard/download/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.apk (or replace first argument with path of the good Swype.apk on your phone)
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk and Swype.bak are both there)
reboot (reboots the phone, dunno if its really necessary)

any ideas how to del that file? :]
Hope this is the right place to post this.
My Atrix is rooted stock 1.83 .
I'm trying to "adb push" some OGG files to "/system/media/audio/" to add-to and replace some of the existing system sounds, especially that bloody annoying keypress (typewriter) sound, but I'm getting the following error (which makes sense):
Read-only file system
Tried using Root Explorer, same issue...again makes sense since its mounted as Read only on boot.
I tried booting into recovery mode, but I can't access the phone via ADB at all, even with USB Debug enabled. I also tried "adb remount" command, no luck either. I get an error "operation not permitted".
So, does anyone know the correct sequence of commands I need in ADB to remount the Atrix /system folder as RW??
What I have been doing is using adb push to the /sdcard then using adb shell then su then
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/stl5 /system
Then cp /sdcard/whatever /system/media

EDIT: im at my computer now so I can write this easier to understand, lol
Lets say the file you want to change is called whatever.ogg
Code:
adb push whatever.ogg /sdcard/whatever.ogg
adb shell
su
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/stl5 /system
cp /sdcard/whatever.ogg /system/media/audio/notifications
when you access root explorer, does it let you know that it has been granted supervisor privilages? Does it give you the option to change from read to write? what did you use to root? I had to run the original Aroot three times before if finally gave me root.
You're the best, worked perfectly Can't believe that hideous typewriter sound is gone, it only took me 1.5 years as an Android user to finaly say enough is enough. Whomever thought it was a good idea to mimic the sound of an 1800's typewriter on a 21st century device needs to be fired.
Thanks again.

Factory mode is enabled
do this:
you must be rooted.
using root explorer or file explorer or what else,
open file "factorymode" in efs/factoryApp directory, it probabely says "off", change to "on" (yes "on" is the correct setting to turn it off), then save
reboot
