This is a copy/paste from thread I mentioned above:
DOWNGRADE
If you come from Android 2.1 and never flashed Android 2.2 you can use the fixed sbf-files method. With this method you will have a option to downgrade to you personal stock Android 2.1 via direct sbf flash.
- First download nandroid backup and normal sbf file of you favourite rom.
- build your own fixed sbf:
- depack sbf-file with MotoAndroidDepacker and delete cg31.smg and cg39.smg
- repack sbf-file (MotoAndroidDepacker)
- install nadroid backup
- flash repacked sbf-file (this one without cg31/cg39)
More information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945035
This is how you can make a fixed sbf - that's how fixed sbf looks like. If you flashed a full sbf then you can't downgrade no more.

Going from Liberty 2.0.1 to Liberty gingerbread

according to this guide:
Code:
Instructions for DROID2:
*WARNING* – You will lose everything on your phone by following the process. This wipes it all people.
*WARNING 2* – This is NOT for the DROID X. Those instructions are here.
*Note* - If you didn’t jump the gun and flash the non-rooted version and are still running something like say, Liberty ROM, all you have to do is flash the .zip file below just as you would any other ROM.
Download: Monster_2.3.2_4.5.153_updater_Rooted.zip
*Note Again* – If you have not already upgraded to Gingerbread, simply download the .zip file, flash it like you normally would a ROM, and ignore this entire process.
all I need to do is go into recovery and install that .zip is this correct? I am on Liberty 2.0.1(froyo) wanting to go to rooted gingerbread and then to liberty gingerbread. I would like to avoid using sbf if possible so I was curious if I was reading that correctly.

[Help] Bricked Phone

Hello guys, I'm having a problem with my phone. I was trying out some scripts to improve the performance of the ms2, then all of a sudden it stopped working. So I turned it off and rebooted it, that's when it never came back again.
Following that, I tried flashing a sbf file, but using the RSDlite, no file is "clickable" to start flashing. What should I do??
I was using the EndlessCM7 but now I just want it working.... Any help would do!
Thanks...
Edit: ok so after searching (a lot) the forum, I got the answer from a post by r2beta0
Get the official ROM and start with that. Flash the SBF and it should wipe everything and put you back to day one.

The RSDlite would not accept any sbf, so I had to modify the froyo sbf, renaming some file, and then it worked flawlessly
Link the r2beta0's post, so other people with your problem could unbrick their phones.
Sent from my Milestone 2 XDA App

"I don't know if this is going to help, but you could try that anyway:
- Download MotoAndroidDepacker (utility to unpack/repack SBF's)
- Choose one stock SBF (2.2 FR for example)
- Open and unpack it with the utility
- Rename CG66.smg to CG37.smg (you are going to use preinstall image as data image, both are ext3, but has different sizes. Don't know if it's going to work).
- Use utility to open folder with unpacked images and repack it
- Put phone in bootloader mode and flash the repacked SBF (rebuilt/firmware.sbf)
- Post results here"

[q] how to downgrade from official 2.3.5 to android 2.2?

im currently using u8800 2.3.5 official rom
want to downgrade back to android 2.2

pink screen is mounted shows usb
a folder named image exists there
ozgurce the developer says need to replace
the files in the image folder with android 2.2 ones
do u have the android 2.2 backup of the pinkscreen
i hate this official rom and want to go back to 2.2
CAN ANYONE PROVIDE THE ANDROID 2.2 PINKSCREEN
IMAGE FILES? PLZ TRY TO HELP
yes how to downgrade 2.3.5 (28.12.2011 release) to 2.2 ?????
Just flash B138 normally.
After reboot, problably the device will go to recovery mode and throw some errors about block devices. Do a wipe from recovery and reboot.
It looks that some guys succeeded in this downgrade while some others did not. I was one of these who failed.
I read many warnings not to try downgrading to 2.2, but I did it and... phone was bricked. Thankfully, it was replaced under a warranty.

For anyone having issues installing the 4.3.7 Verizon update

For anyone having issues installing the 4.7.3 Verizon update. Or who lost root after the update and want root back. This is what I did and it worked just fine.
-Reset your phone back to factory settings in the settings -> privacy menu or in recovery mode.
-Get RDS Lite 4.9 or newer and SBF your phone back to 2.3.3 gingerbread so you have a stock verizon 2.3.3 gingerbread install. All the software including the 2.3.3 US Verizon SBF are on XDA in the fourms.
-Root phone with superoneclick
-Install OTARootkeeper from play store. Backup root and then temp unroot in app.
-Take the OTA update from Verizon which will install just fine now
-Restore root with OTARootkeeper
Now you have a stock Verizon Droid Pro running Android 2.3.4 with root. Enjoy!
SBF Files
Where did you get the files? I searched for them and the only thread had a link that I couldnt use.
SBF flash is not necessary.
4.7.3 Put on Sd card and sew through the rekaveri. You'll get an error because of what you can not ask. I did not flash because of build.prop.
Next download 4.6.8 SBF. and parse for the manual
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13146095&postcount=3
and cast your files you want to place.
After this update will be in place. And you will not lose
Firmware files can be found here http://forum.motofan.ru/index.php?s=&showtopic=1730230&view=findpost&p=1625509

Root Defy+ Android 2.3.6

So yeah, I tried rooting my Defy+ but it failed in every try I did:
First I tried the tutorial on the CM Forum (for installing CM7) but it didn't work.
Second I tried SuperOneKlick and similar tools but all failed.
Third I searched in Google very much but only found ways with Flashing the ROM.
My problem now is:
1. I don't want to flash another ROM
2. I wan't to root my Phone for apps e.g. AdBlocker
My Versions and Numbers:
System Version: 45.0.2310.MB526.Retail.en.DE
Baseband Version: EPU93_U_00.60.03
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-ge281 b6e [email protected] #1
Build Number: 4.5.1-134_DFP-231
(dunno what you need or not)
So is there any way that I may have overseen to root my Defy+? (Without flashing a different ROM?)
just here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542956&highlight=root+231
Edit: Only way is to flash them 2 roms as you have chosen the 231 version which is the latest one with no downgrades so you have to only use that version or higher (when it comes out)
Try this stock rooted rom.Just flash it via rsd lite!
I send the download link because i cant post link directly!
maybe to add im not that advanced^^ have no idea what you are talking about
can i also directly flash CM7 via rsdlite?
ok i tried to flash those thingys but rsd lite was unable to open these things saying me invalid filetype
what are you trying to flash? if you are using the link I sent you use the CEE versions (second one) As the CN one you have to flash 3 files instead or the 2 on the CEE one.
I have flashed that may times and it always works you might have to extract the .SBF file out of the zip folder. The RSD lite I have will do it for you but not sure if the older versions do.
