Build.prop - Blade General

Hi, I downloaded and install optimize from new provision optimize tool (automatically adding tweeks ) but it screwed my 2g and 3g connection so here's the question. I want to delete modified build.prop and restore the backedup one (the apply did it before optimization). I'm noob in this, so can I just delete the modified one and rename the original back up? Is it OK? Thanks
Swyped from my ZTE Blade

Yes u can. Just delete build.prop and rename ur backup which is usually build.prop.bak to build.prop.

OK I tried to delete it but it said It can't be deleted. Tried renaming but action cannot be done ... I'm using es file explorer.
Oh and permissions for it are rw-r-r
Swyped from my ZTE Blade

Use root explorer. Mount R/W.

if u r using es go to setting and allow root access and superuser access or its something like that delete the modified build.prop first and then remove the .bak from the backuped one and reboot.
or simply use root explorer as kartik said

Ok ive done it in different way. I reinstalled the tool that screwed it and remove the JiT compiler option from it and installed the optimization again and reboot. Working ok now. Thnx for help guys

system notifications

I see my system notifications are stored in /system/media/notifications but even with root Im not able to drop a new file withing this directory. I would like to do this because Handcent doesnt give me the option to select a different directory.
Any suggestions on either dropping a new sound file in the /system/media dir or using a custom sound file for Handcent?
Thanks
You should be able to put something in /sdcard/media/notifications
You have to mount system with root explorer, ADB, etc. It's read only by default.

I've tried a root file manager without success. Is it possible to change the directory permissions using ADB?

If you use root explorer, there is a little button in the upper right that toggles read write permissions.
Sweet
For the next person, I can confirm this does work, you just need to make sure the permissions are correctly set on each file and the phone (or SMS) app needs to be restarted to take effect.
Thanks everyone.
P.S. I hope you guys get a commission!

Unable To Rename/delete File In Root

I've tried to delete/rename a file in system/media, although it shows as removed, it shows back up when I come back to system/media . I am using Root Explorer.
Did you mount system as read/write first?

Sure did.
Sorry, had to ask. I would suggest that you first check the permissions of the file you are trying to edit. If that doesn't work, uninstall root explorer, clear its cache and try again.
If the file only reverts back to its original state after a reboot then you may not be able to fix it short of decompiling/rewriting/recompiling whatever program(s) deal with whatever particular file you are trying to edit. Kind of like when you delete your battery stats. When you reboot, the system checks to see if its there and rewrites it when necessary.
It would be helpful to know what file you are trying to edit and why.

Excuse my ignorance, I'll try to explain. I tried to make a bootanimation.zip, placed it in system/media, but it would not load. I tried to change name to keep it until I figured what I did wrong , in the process it did not rename as .zip, just the name I gave the file. I tried as you suggested, deleted cleared cache on Root Explorer and re-installed, did not work.

Deleted Google Talk.

So I was reading on how to change my name on Google Talk and someone suggested removing the app and installing it again.
After I used a ROM Toolbox Pro to uninstall talk, downloaded an apk to install it again and its not working !
Sorry for being a noob, but how do I get it back?

download es file ex file explorer and move it with root to /system/app, then it should install itself....
Maybe you could attach it on your post here (the apk) cause u need it

One additional step, when you move the APK to /system/app make sure that you set the permissions properly. System apps need to be rw-r--r-- (644).
And reboot after setting the permissions. The app should be there.
can't acces the gtalk
after all process
can't login

Changing permissions?

First, you have to be rooted. Second, you need a root file manager installed such as Root Explorer (paid app worth every penny) or ES File Explorer (free, but I never used it) and there are others. Navigate to the system file you want to change permissions on, allow read/write access, long-press the file, choose permissions. rwx, means to put checkmarks in read, write, execute for Owner, and check Read for Group and Others.
Thanks for the info...

[Q] ES file explorer or TitaniumBackup can not delete system apps

Hello,
i9500, Stock MJ8, rooted
I just updated to 4.3 MJ8 and want to get rid of some additional system apps.
I run into 2 problems:
1) If I use ES file explorer (Root enabled), I can access the files, but the delete operation fails because "read-only file system", although I can see that read and write is enabled for root. Permissions for the folder are "rwx r-x r-x", the file permissions are "rw- r-- r--". Actually, it shows me that I have read and write permissions on both folder and file but I have no idea how to change them, if necessary.
2) Instead, if I want to delete those system apps with Titanium Backup Pro, I (or better TitaniumBackup) simply does not find them. One example is the system app "InteractiveTutorial.apk". If i enable all filter criteria, TB just does not display, although I can see that it is in the /system/app- folder. This is valid for many other system apps. A support question to TB was not answered.
I checked the search within XDA, but I either get 2900 results or none. TB-website and EStrongs website also didnt help me.
Does anybody of you have a helping hand for me, please?
Kind regards
Your going to need root explorer for that

I know. But root explorer is better and easier when it comes to deleting system apps. I don't think u can delete system apps from es file explorer.

Used another explorer and succeeded. Strange thing: It worked with the old version of ES file explorer but not with the newer 3.x.
Thanks for your help, guys.
