I also Know nothing about this
Most likely another app interfering. Do you have any SMS notification apps or anything else that affects notification services for something installed?
I don't think so. I think facebook and ads but that about it.
Are you sure gmail is running? Go into manage applications look for gmail and see if the force stop box is greyed out. If it is gmail isn't running
Have you got gmail checked for syncing under Accounts and Settings?
I know that ie ILWT has an option to install a version of Gmail app that should have something different about notifications,it may be your problem, try to search it...

You can have a try on clearing the cache of the gmail app (Settings -> Apps -> ...)

I second this. Did you just turn notifications on in the gmail app? You need to go into android settings, accounts & sync, click on your email address, then make sure gmail is checked.

You may want to search on google for a modified gmail app with something about notification or just check synching as they said...

So, I logged in with my GMail account upon loading the phone for the first time. Well I wanted to use the nifty Sense email widget and it asked me to log in again so I did. Well I am getting dual notifications of emails now and I cannot figure out how to remove the second entry of my GMail. I input my company email info and it went under Settings > Account. When I look there, a Google account is listed and when i try to remove it is says you must reset the phone to remove this account. How can I unload the second instance of GMail from the Mail app and leave the original account alone?
Also, is there a way to switch the App Drawer button with the Phone button?
Thanks
to get gmail out of the Mail app, open the mail app, then menu -> account list and pick your gmail account, then menu -> settings -> delete account.
Can't help on the second front tho, good luck!
if you dont want the 2x notifications, you dont need to delete the Gmail account from the stock app (witch is automatic if you are signed into google)just turn off all the notifications in the stock google mail app.

I feel pretty retarded, I noticed that right after I posted this. I looked a couple times and for some reason didnt see it, thanks.
I hardly use my phone as a phone so i want to set priority to the Apps I guess, stupid phone button on a phone, who woulda thought...
I had the same thing but I just went to settings in the HTC Mail app and turned off notifications then swapped the mail app on the home screen with the gmail app since I like the gmail one better. That way I just get the gmail notifications which I like better and I can still use the HTC Mail widget, although I'm still undecided on whether I'll keep the widget or not.
If someone already asked the question, I sincerely apologize.
Anyway, is there a way to hide certain labels (and its contents) on Gmail when using the NC?
I went into the gmail settings and check-off "Show in IMAP" but those labels are still shown. Don't know if I missed anything thing or would it be possible/doable at all?
Thanks
If you're using the Gmail app, it might be worth noting that it does not use IMAP. If you want to use IMAP, try the Email app.
Thanks for letting me know that, honestly, w/o you telling me, I still keep playing around try to find the way.
And yes, I'm using Gmail app.
Yeah, the Gmail app uses some proprietary protocol to communicate with Google.
I just poked around a bit and found: Gmail > Menu > Settings > my gmail address > Sync inboxes and labels
Geez, I've been using this app for almost 6 months and don't know about this.
Thanks, m8
However, by default, the Inbox set to sync w/i the last 4 days, even every other label set to "Sync none" but as long as it stays in the Inbox, it will be shown anyway, unless on Gmail account (from PC) we must set to MOVE mails out of Inbox when arrived, and even if it's the case, we don't know we got mails if using the NC.
Ah, yep, there seems to be no way to exclude labels; you could only include them.
For some reason the Gmail and Xoom email apps will not sync with all my Gmail contacts. Some contacts don't show. All are available through the Gmail website interface.
Any suggestions?

Are you sure you haven't got a filter active in the contacts app on your Xoom? By filter, I mean "View only contacts with email", "View only contacts with a phone number" etc.

Thanks! I'm lucky I spotted this thread! My gmail stopped auto syncing yesterday too, have Google maybe changed something? Anyway, I deleted my gmail data and everything works now.
Hi folks,
Hopefully will have my nexus 7 soon - am i right in assuming i can activate it using the same gmail address i have on my phone? If so.. i dont really want my emails coming to the 7 as the tablet is probably going to be for family use.. can you just delete the gmail or or remove the email account or something? I suppose I could always just set up a new gmail address and use that.
Thanks,
Michael
Just set it up not to refresh automatically. Easy-peasy
You can tell it not to sync gmail under "accounts and sync" in settings.

Sync, that's what I meant... why did I say refresh?!? But yeah, just turn off the sync and you are set.
Try freezeing or disabling the gmail app from the apps list or root it and uninstall gmail app

When I receive an e-mail on my Nexus and delete it the same e-mail isn't deleted from Gmail when I access it through my desktop, it also comes up as unread even though i have read and deleted it through the Gmail app on my Nexus.
What mail app are you using? Gmail ? The Stock Mail Client?
Both have sync settings in them.

Using the stock Gmail app. I've checked in the settings and it is all set to sync so not sure what's going on.
When using the other stock e-mail app for my other e-mail accounts they sync fine.
That happens to me in k9 on my phone. I like Gmail better on my n7. Make sure you look in settings under your account and check that manage labels is set to sync the number of days you have it set for. And that sync is set for Gmail in general settings.
