I heard that the new Sense in the Desire HD will have a built in Ebook reader, based on Kobo technology.
Does anyone happen to know (unlikely I realise, unless they have a preview version of the DHD or DZ) whether such a reader app allows reading of user's own .epub format files, or whether it is locked into content from the Kobo ebook store?
I would be surprised if it wasn't possible, as it seems a similar idea to playing DRM and non-DRM mp3.
I realise I could still install Aldiko or Laputa or one of the other existing 3rd party apps, but the few screenshots of the reader app I have seen with a cover flow type view look much better than these.

Got my DHD last saterday. The ereader that came with the phone has no possibility to read your own epub-books. So the first app I installed was the Aldiko ereader which lets you read your own epub's. Next to that it has a lot of options which you can set to your own preference.
Can you uninstall the Kobo-app? Or is every app that is orginaly on the device locked?
I just purchased a book on google books. but im only able to read it using the stock books app that i had to redownload after i flashed the Bonsai rom. So i would like to know how i can read google ebooks using the EBOOK app that came with touchwiz.
I think its
- Open Ebook
- Menu
- Add a store
I use Cool Reader to view most of my eBooks because it is the most compatible reader I could find (I have a mutt library). It is also easy to navigate and read, unlike apps like Mantano which have tiny useless buttons all over the place. I don't use Adilko because it forces the user to import books into its library, effectively requiring double the space for eBooks: space for my hand-sorted eBook library, and space for its own library. I use BeamReader to view my PDFs because it's the only app I've found that has a text wrap feature. I haven't picked out a comic viewer yet.
I am looking for a browser that can open all non-PDF books in Cool Reader, PDFs in BeamReader, and comics in a comic viewer. I have tried using Root Explorer to open books, but it only works with BeamReader for PDFs. I think it opens .txt files in its own reader.
Is there any single file browser I can use to open all of my eBooks? I'm open to both free and paid options.
Have you tried "Rhythm Software File Manager"?
I use it to open every existing format.
Just remember to associate file extensions with the right apps.
I'm sure it works for CR (html, txt, chm), ezPDF (pdf), ebooka pdf (djvu) opera (htm, html, mht), Documents To Go 3.0 (doc, ppt) and so on..

I just installed it, and I love it. It opens all my files perfectly, it has a great interface, and it even has root r/w support. Thanks for the recommendation!
I have done the search but all I see are people talking about using their Google Play app to view magazines bought from the Google Play store. I have several magazines in PDF format that I would like to read on my Nexus 7. The problem is I have no idea where to view/read them.
I downloaded one of my free magazines from Google play (Esquire) and it looks great, but the problem is I cannot see/find it on the device when I us Airdroid to check the files on my Nexus 7.
So I uploaded a personal PDF file (magazine) to where I thought the SD card/Android/Data/Com.Google.apps.magazines/files but no dice.
Does anyone have a suggestion on if Google magazines allows you to view personal files or if not what app is best for viewing magazine PDFs?
Thanks.
Play Books can only access content from the Play Store. Other content cannot be sideloaded into it. For .pdf try Mantano, Aldiko, ezPDF, or Adobe Reader.
I prefer Mantano.
I downloaded the Kindle App since if im going to download a book, it will probably be from amazon. If you have the app downloaded, you can plug your Nexus 7 into the computer, and put the .pdf files into the folder that says kindle. Then they will show up in your kindle library, along with any other books or magazines you download from amazon
Google should rethink openness of google play
Google definitely needs to rethink their strategy involving 3rd party purchased material. if i have a magazine or book that i want to read on my nexus 7, i shouldn't have to download someone else's app to read it. I now have to go download the kindle app. That promotes amazon and takes away from google books business. We can upload mp3s to google music, why not magazines or books?
Even apple has a built in PDF reader and PDF book shelf in iBooks for your third party PDF's so I'm thinking it's very possible that eventually google will incorporate that feature.

Yes. I downloaded a few .pdf magazines to check them out.
I used a downloaded file explorer to navigate to them on the storage 'card' and opened them that way.
I have installed the kindle app but can not see the kindle folder ! where will it be ?
ok now it shows up

With Kvisoft PDF to flash magazine maker, readers can read PDF magazine in a different way: flash flip pages with flipping animation. No app is needed to install on mobile Nexus. Just convert PDF magazine to flash and upload it, then it can be viewed online on NEXUS anywhere and anytime.
PDF is too easy to copy. That is not suitable for protecting copyright. Publishers and digital magazine maker should think about a safe method to publish e-magazine. SWF flash magazine helps to protect copyright and enable better reading experience.
Moon+reader does just about every file format including PDF. It also easily integrates with drop box and Google drive. After trying all other reader programs I find moon to be the most versatile and really easy to use.

well, after several tries, finally I decide to use XFlip pro software to create view personal files or if not what app is best for viewing magazine PDFs on any mobile devices.
ezPDF Reader
I personally use ezPDF Reader for viewing magazines. I like the flipping effect. Also, Adobe Reader is pretty good and fast.
With all the screen real estate on the Nexus 10 I was looking for a nice clean widget to display my books like the widget similar to google books. I have quite a few books I already own and Google books does not allow you to upload them into the service. Any suggestion for a decent Ebook widget/reader that can accomplish this?
Thanks for any input.
