I saw, that i have Social, Reader and Shop tasks and a few supplementary services running all the time - when i kill them, they restart automatically. Is there a way to remove them from startup & force them not to restart?
yes. you can use root explorer go to system/app and delete shop.apk, social.apk. goodluck

Freezing them with Titanium Backup or equivalent might be safer than deletion.

I'm having truble uninstalling an ap its called asphalt 5 I have gone to settings>applications>manage applications or something like that to remove the program but I still see it in my apps menu and I can still start and play the game. I need to figure this out because for some reason I am runing out of phone memory but I'm having difficulties uninstalling apps. Also I removed some other programs but my phone says I'm using 300+ mb for apps but I only see about 110mb in the manage applications thing in settings. Btw I did see the asphalt 5 application in "manage applications" and removed it. But it is still playable.

Asphalt Demo is set as a system application.
You need root access to delete it from the phone. The Sprint bloatware take up a good deal of the memory.
hi, does anyone know the root files involved so i can remove the samsung task manager, or at least permanently disable it
my problem is that my tab used to force close every time i tried to use it
so i use ATKfroyo, have it set to kill my unwanted apps on screen lock/unlock
but that stops working after a few minutes, (ATKpro does the same)
ive noticed that if i 'force stop' the samsung task manager, and providing i get no force close crashes
the ATKfroyo kill on lock/unlock keeps working for many hours
my RAM can drop to 40mb or less just from apps opening in the background when i dont need them to, and thats when i get the force close buzz.....buzz buzz buzz problems
i could even try replacing some of the samsung task manager files with the files from ATK and rename them so the device thinks its opening the samsung TK when its actually opening ATK, but im not sure how many files make the total app

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall system apps
and will that let me reinstall it if something goes wrong?
i would rather know where all the files are that make the program
so i can replace them manually with the ATK files but renamed so the device thinks its still there and runs AKT instead
anyone?

then install "root explorer" from the market, and search for the associated files of Task Manager (or other apps) and copy/paste & back up manually.
if it's a system app, it will probably be in /system/app; if it is a non-system app, it's probably in /app
if it's an odexed system, many *.apk's have *.odex; and they will not run without the *.odex file, if the system hasn't been deodexed yet
some have files associated to them in system/lib (e.g. such as SWYPE)
if you say "ATK or AKT"? do you mean APK instead?
Hi again,
I`m new to android and have now got my Wildfire rooted and running the latest Wilpuzzle rom.I`ve also got live wallpapers running, got overclocking running and even Angry Birds so thanks to everyone for the help and advice on these forums.
The last little thing that is now got me is can you permanantly delete trash. As I`ve been playing around I have quite often put things on the screen then wanted to get rid of the icon etc.
So I do a long press and the trash icon appears in the notification bar at the top then I just drag the item to the bin and it`s gone.Over the past couple of weeks I`ve done this loads of times. My question is- Is there a permanent delete option like on Windows or is it permanently deleted each time I drag it to the trash?
If the permanent delete option is there where is it?
Thanks again
you can remove the app by downloading apps like easy uninstaller or uninstaller from the market.
or you can uninstall them from menu - settings - apps - manage apps... etc
or if you're using launcher pro, open app drawer, long press an app and drag it over the trash can until it says drop to uninstall, or something like that.
For the built in widget's, I dont think there is a permanent delete option. But, for 3rd party apps, you can simply uninstall the app itself.
you can also delete any folders that have been created by discarded apps using a file explorer
Thanks for the replys,
I have a file explorer and also know how to uninstall unwanted apps, but what I want to know is,when you drop something in the trash can, is it automatically permanently deleted or is it like Windows trash can where the files or whatever are dropped into sit with the option to permanently delete or restore.
If it is where do I find it on the system to find the recently deleted files/apps etc?
It (The widget) is just removed from the home screen, that's it. Its not uninstalled or removed or anything. (Unless you use LauncherPro/ADW's Uninstall Feature from the Trash Can).
Widgets are basically "functioning" shortcuts like the shortcuts on your Windows Desktop (Eg: Windows Vista/7 Clock, Calendar Widget etc), and, the same effect occurs when you remove a widget as is the case with removing a windows shortcut, i.e., only the shortcut gets removed. The app remains untouched. You can add it later as and when desired.
Lastly, there is no concept of Recycle Bin in Android as far as I know to view recently deleted apps / files etc.

Thanks 3xeno thats exactly what I wanted to know.
When I have been using an app for more than a few minutes, when I exit it the screen goes black for 30 seconds. I thought it might have been ADW Launcher but it is doing it with the stock launcher as well. Has anyone else had this problem?

I notice this too using any launcher. try super task killer. I know devs and others say task killers are bad, but form my experience they work beautifully, as android just loads ALL apps it can into memory and then take sup cpu cycles clearing ram, loading apps and such. Just set a smany apps to "no start on boot up" and run taks killer after boot. should be fine. if you get chopiness run task killer and all should be cleared up. Be aware as anderoid will try to reload some apps, so apps wont stay closed all the time, but it improves performance, even if it reloads them.
So base don my experience i would try super task killer form the market. also try the galaxy task rom (backup data saved in apps first) (wiping data in clockwork mod does not erase sdcard data folder, so it will save your data there if apps use that folder)
Hope this helps!
Hello, so I finally have got my phone rooted with Magisk, and now I'm just curious which system/LG/MetroPCS apps are safe to remove? Thanks...
If you are on stock, pretty much any app that has a market download alternative. Browser, calendar, email, lg maps, etc. If you use calendar, do not delete the Calendar Storage app. Every calendar app needs that to function. Don't delete any LG apps that don't have icons. Those are very much part of the LG system and will break one thing or another. Your best bet is to freeze any apps you want to delete and use the phone as you learn what they do that way if you suddenly start getting force close errors you can unfreeze them. Don't go crazy freezing them all. Start with a few, but for the most part those apps that have icons and have alternatives to replace them you can freeze/uninstall. Only way to restore any you accidentally erase will likely require reflashing stock rom because a simple factory reset won't recover them. I learned that hard way uninstalling calendar storage and some other apks that ended up crippling my system.
