Simple [Guide ] shoot 720p video with front facing camera - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

It seems pointless for some of us to shoot 720p videos with front camera , but I've found a way to do it [Htc one x was announced to be the first to do so ]
1. Download Camera ICS from market (it is free )
2. Adjust the front camera to 720p settings and enjoy

Well, sounds too easy....how an app can transform a vga camera? I think that it's a hardware issue and not a software one...Please correct me if I'm missing something.

I haven't tried the app but it seems more likely that it is just resizing and saving the video in 720p resolution.

Well, yes. That's the most logical explanation. Totally missed it! Thanks for pointing that out!

No zoom.
CONFIRMED that trying to pinch-to-zoom has no affect.
Leave it to samsung. Go get a nexus 1

it has nothing to do with Sammy, its a google thing, The zoom in the N1 was just Digital zoom, meaning that it just zoomed in on the image

But really, who wants ****ty digital zoom anyway. If you wanted a nice camera on your phone, you should have bought a Nokia NSeries or something man. TO OP: Don't let that be a deal-breaker for you... I'm sure there will be custom ROMs around in given time that supports zoom and 720p video recording. Hope this helps.
Digital zoom on a fixed lens = crappy pixelated pics
I know the gingerbread roms for evo have zoom. But theyre custom. Thought it was in gingerbread though

There's an old Chinese proverb:
Man who requires digital zoom,
is an ignoramus.
Zoom with your feet.

I have the Galaxy S and just upgraded to CM7 nightly's which gives me a similar cam to the Nexus S. I've confirmed with a friend, and there's no zoom on his Nexus S.
I was surprised to find out, that there is no Zoom on the camera any more, as the Galaxy S (stock samsung) camera application supported zoom via the Volume Buttons.
For those saying "oh it's just digital and not optical zoom" is irrelevant. It allows me to take my crappy pixelated photo with out having to crop later before sending. The quality on the camera is sh!t anyways.
I'd personally like optical zoom and it seems like a standard reasonable feature these days.

You have to understand that the Nexus S is meant to be a developer phone so it lacks certain features that can be later added by the developers in the XDA forums.

Developer phone or not it still cost the same as the galaxy s yet they didn't add alot of stuff shouldn't the phone be cheaper guess not more I think about this its just dumb Google is really droppin the ball. No tv-out no 720p recording no sdcard no zoom no codecs only thing that's better is the form factor and updates from Google I guess but that's the price I pay for lord Google to give updates rant off I guess

How to improve camera quality?

Hello, i am going to buy Atrix. But camera takes pictrures ugly quality. Is there any way to improve quality? Compression? What´s about Droid 3 camera app?
I don't know about Droid 3 camera but, I'm using the camera app from MIUI as main one and for even better shots I use HDR Camera+ from the market. Try HDR Camera (not +) first to see if you like it, the + version has a lot more settings and uses flash as well.
Camera Zoom FX works a lot better, you can find it on the market.

Ya well Yikes Atrix Camera
Ya there are software options but the camera just isn't that great to start with. But the rest of the phone is amazing thanks to the development community.
using neutrino's rom atm and you can deff. notice the difference with this one or stock camera, I think it's the MIUI one
so the different cameras apps actually affect the quality of the pictures themselves huh? i thought they were there for effects, stabilization, etc.
i use miui camera aswell..just perfect !

Yeah its the same camera no matter what app/apk you use.
Only thing you can do to improve the camera quality is up the Mega pixels to 5 if you only had it on 3 for some reason. Other than that, totally placebo effect.

pictures with a HDR app look a lot better as you effectively increase the dynamic range of the camera

Not really I took two identical pictures one with MIUI Camera and one with Default CM7 camera, you can definitely tell a difference. While the sensor remains the same different apps will process pictures differently.
The camera in neutrino rom is good, but you loose the front one. Still Atrix just doesn't have the megapixels.

Is there a ICS ROM with a Camera like in GB??

Hi,
I tried a lot of roms since i have my HD2 (just love it)
I really like the way ics looks and feels but i dont like the camera cause the camcorder has lower resolution.
Is their a ICS Rom with a Camera which can do 800x480 in recording and 4MP Widescreen Photos??
Thx for the help in advance
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda app-developers app
so it can only take 640x450?
Well at the moment i am using a GB rom where i can do great 800x480 videos but in the IC S roms i've tested so far i only got 640x480.....
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda app-developers app
I'm not 100 % sure, but i think there is a fix for ICS which enables the camcorder to record 720p video.
I'll dig up the link and post here.
As for 4 MP shots, just crop the image
i think this is it

My N4 doesn't have that auto focus ring like in camera mode or if i tap a subject on video ,. nor if i get closer to the subject. Maybe it's fixed focused in video mode. sigh...

In stock rom AF in video works. You cannot touch focus(it takes a photo instead which I can't seem to disable). But it definitely works as though in stock rom. Don't know about CM

[REQ] G2-optimized GoogleCamera

Hey folks!
The recently published new camera app from Google has some nice features. Unfortunately, as many other camera apps for the G2, this camera app lacks in picture quality in comparison to the G2 stock camera and its derivatives...
I'm not a developer but I thought that maybe it would be possible to modify the GoogleCamere to shoot better pictures using our beloved G2...
What do you think?
Bye, Spatz

Why not just use one of the posted g2 camera mods? They're already optimized.

Because,
1. most of them are only updated for stock roms and
2. the don't have those nice new functions like focus control, that the new GoogleCamera offers...
The camera mods change more than just the camera app.
I find the Google camera just as good as far as basic photo quality.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Most of the optimisations in the camera of OEM phones is in the app, but many are in the Kernel. Without both you will never get the same level of quality.
Porting them over is just not possible since its not just about settings, but also drivers and often you will not get the benefit of the drivers without the OEM app.
I wouldn't mind only a mod to select 16:9 for pictures instead of only 4:3 formats.
