include UPDATE.APP
- Prepare a formatted Micro SD card which at least has 512MB available space. Make sure your handset is powered off and then insert the MICRO SD card into the handset.
- Make a “dload” directory on SD card root directory
- Copy the “Step 1\ dload\UPDATE.APP” to SD card.
- Long press volume up + volume down + power button on the handset to startup you device until device into upgrade model, the handset will upgrade and shutdown automatically.
- After upgrade success , Restart the handset.
- It will reboot few times.
- Check the Build number is 100R001C00B518G001 . You can see it in “Settings”->”About Phone”..

[Q] First time rooting ... is this the right way ?

Hey guys
Just a quick yes/no answer
I have a HTC HERO gsm... its running with the newest HTC update...
To root I shall do this right? :
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
3. Download a ROM (suggestions ?)
4. ROM manager -> Install ROM from SDCard
Done ??

I'll try this ROM
Floyo 1.1.8
but the rest ?..
Floyo is great! FroydVillain is also good (but imo a little bit bloated). You could always try piecing your own device together from great pieces of work created by various people around XDA (this tends to be what the ROM packagers do, but they put them together in nice neat packages that do a lot of the work for you).
However, for a first rom, Floyo is a great choice!
Zeb
and the rest i listed is correctly ?
And one more question...
Will this rom install wipe my SD-Card ???
No, but if you choose to wipe SD Card Or EXT- Partition than it will !
Okay thanks
Then I'll properly have a rooted hero with android 2.2 at the end of this day
First time Boot
I have rooted now...
How long time should the FLOYO boot screen be there ?
its just goes round and round... and then blink some times...
is this normal ???

Yea, this can take a very long time. Leave it, but if it takes longer than about 30 minutes then I would pull the battery and reboot.
thanks.
How do I boot into recovery if I need that ?
When powering on the phone, push and hold the Power and Home buttons until recovery boots.
Okay, thanks againg
New ROM

just Wipe everything .. its okay if you dont wipe App2sd Because you going from 1.1.8 to 1.1.9 but its good to wipe everything .. because it affects your ROM & Speed
Hello, its my first time of rooting and installing a custom rom.
I have followed what B4Me has done as far as
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
Ive then used rom manager to partition my sd card
512mb ext size
and 32mb swap size.
Im planning on following Zebwen guide
The Perfect Hero Setup (How to set up your Hero with granular control)
Once ive downloaded all the parts what part of the SD card do i put them in?
When i mount the phone to the computer and open the sd card i have a one folder called rosie_scroll.
And then can i use Rom manager to flash and install the new rom?
Oh and whats the easiest way to completely wipe the phone?
cheers for any help, or a point in the right direction.

If you are using clockwork recovery you can put the zip files anywhere you want on the SD card. I have a folder named roms and I place them all in there.
You can wipe the device through recovery also. When people say "full wipe" they mean to wipe nand, battery stats, rotation, ext... basically all of the wipe options. This will leave your phone with only the recovery mate on it and it will leave the storage area of your SD card intact too.
Once you have done all of this you can go ahead and flash the roms as outlined in the other thread.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
then put new rom on sd-card (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
turn phone off
turn phone on WHILE holding down the HOME button, till a recovery screens appers.
in here, select first wipe all
then install .zip from sd-card
select the rom (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
it will then flash, and then you just WAIT and WAIT...
if like mine nothing happens after 40min
pull the battery, and restart the phone, DONT flash again.. just reboot it...
then It should start up after some tries
Spot on, thanks very much for the help.
Is it also advisable to do a nandroid backup?
Or is that not needed with me using the flash clockworkmod recovery in ROM Manager?

[Q] Problem with sd card/back to 2.1?/themes?

Hey guys!
I have updated my gt540 from original 2.1 (without fastboot) to 2.3.2 (cyanogen mod 7.0.0 with all stuff that was needed). Since update from 1.6 to 2.1 and then to 2.3.2 I have problems with my sd card. It's Kingston 16gb micro sdhc card. I often get messages "Sd card unexpectedly removed" and then "mounting" immediately after turning on screen. The problem is, that (I think) it happens this removal happens sometimes during preparing card for android and it has made my sd card useless (needed to reformat it, losing all data). This is getting annoying, because of my data and 7gb of music I need to copy every time it's broken, and it happens once-twice every month. I checked slot for sd and put a piece of paper to push card further. Didn't work. So my first question: is it because of android or hardware? Or maybe sd card is too big for this phone?
And another question: is it possible to "revert" my phone to original 2.1 without fastboot?(To make phone look not altered by me [guarantee]) (Of course by 'revert' I mean installing new rom from lg).
I'm little tired with this 2.3.2, it's sometimes rebooting without reason and this particular rom has many apps I don't need.
Also will themes, that are posted here (for 2.1) work with fabric 2.1?
And if not, could you show me a clean rom which will work fast? Also, working radio is appreciated.
Clean ROM
Well... Here's a clean ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182804
Do you want fastboot after flashing the Stock 2.1 ROM?
I had similar problems with card on earlier versions of 2.3.x. I would recommend trying SwiftDroid, it has Android 2.3.5 and some tweaks for SD cards. Since installing that ROM I hadn't a single issue with storage.
Size of the card shouldn't be a matter, because GT540 can use up to 32 GB.
Clean ROMs
Clean ROMs doesn't always mean it's faster. I could be at some times. You could mod CM7 to bypass the speed of a clean ROM. Swiftdroid is not a clean ROM unlike AOSP Froyo which is "Pure Android". I've heard that AOSP Froyo has better battery performance than Swiftdroid, but I'm not sure :/

I'll give froyo a try and then, if problem persists I'd want to flash it to stock 2.1 without fastboot and maybe I'll give it to service.
After I flash it to 2.2 you posted what should I do to get rid of fastboot? Just run lg update which will do everything?
ed: Wait, is fastboot just an application for windows and it's by default on every device and I got it wrong with clockwork mod?
Fastboot
Fastboot is used on a device from a computer. You can't use fastboot without a device with fastboot. There's no fastboot on the LG GT540's stock ROM. You need to flash a Fastboot ROM to use fastboot from your computer. Clockwork Recoverymod is a modification to your device that can enable you to flash and backup your ROMs without the need of a computer.

Do you mean that the 'Phone' app can't read your SD card.
Isn't everything used by the 'Phone' application on the Stock 2.1 ROM from the internal memory?
Yes, the phone does not detect the SDcard.
I can not install applications on the card as if it were not for a SDcard.
Dismount
You can take out your SD card and put it back in. See if that does anything.

Physical problem
It could be a physical problem, you should go to the place you bought it from and tell them to fix it. You could try re-flashing a ROM and see what happens.

Froyo to Gingerbread, update failed

Hi, i tried to update from android 2.2.2 to 2.3.5 but i got a problem... i put the "dload" folder into my 16GB sdcard and press both volym keys while pressing the power button. Its unpacking and everything but when it changes to "installing" i get a message that the "update failed".
How do i fix this?
Things i have tried: Formatted sdcard and put "dload" folder into it
Downloaded an other gingerbread update
Factory reset and then tried update
Start the update from the internal sdcard
Start the update without the battery inserted and USB connected
Please help me!
Dload on root of your sd card. After that you must press both Vol + and - with Power key to boot on Pink Screen.

Had the same issue
from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 ok but then nothing !!
Problem was my Motherboard of the phone
could go from 2.2.1 up to 2.2.2 and that was it
It even erased my IMEI number
Luckily it was under warranty
So they replaced my motherboard and now all is ok again

I had the same problem. So, I will point 2 things:
1. It may be a slow card. Try to add the dload folder in the internal card.
2. In case you use the B512, you need to put the UPDATE.APP and UPDATE_G.APP in the dload folder at the same time.

A Custom ROM will always work !!
But you will and cannot upgrade with the Original Releases by HUAWEI
( please check if you still have your IMEI )
I had the same trouble as you did
And if you still have warranty then send it back !!
PS :
I tried fast MicroSD cards and slow 2GB 4GB 8GB and 16GB no luck at all
Internal memory same issues
With Battery or without still no luck
If original update fails while using sdcard try to copy dload folder into internal disk then unmount the sdcard and try to update again.
If your imei isnt nulled %99 it should update.
Btw please consider backing your imei before doing any update with 5iromtoolbox.

Cyanomod 9 4.0.3

Hey, got a question, ive got a HD2 with ICS Cyanomod 9 4.0.3 Kernel 2.6.32.15 tytung, i want to reset it, but the old owner of this Phone has removed the sd-card with the backup. Ive bought a new sd card, now the question is, can i download the Cyanomod 9 4.0.4 Rom and put it on the sd card to restore/ backup the new version. Or should I install everything new ?
Thank you !
Greetings =)
Define 'reset'. If you mean you want to factory reset "android", you can go ahead and "Factory reset" it from Privacy (settings). Or alternatively, you can do so by accessing clockworkmod.
No, as long as he's using Magldr/clk, you can just resize the partitions and install any new rom (or even an upgrade to the same rom), you do not need to reinstall everything.

[Q] My poor huawei u8800 update trying..

I was not using for 1 year, 3 days ago i tried to update it from 2.3.5. I searched some roms and could not decide which one was for me, only i wanted was long battery. I started to install aurora with cwm but now after boorting, it shows huawei logo and then going into black screen.
And everything was deleted. I had made circle battery, and partionaded sdcard and memory to increase memory card capacity.
Now, when i connect to pc, i cant see the driver info. I installed adb drivers but it gave errors.
I dont know what to do and which rom to update...
Please help me to solve this.
How do you update to Aurora?
Can you go to CWM recovery? And bootloader (pink screen)?
Did you format data, system, cache before udpdate to any custom rom?
btw you can boot on Aurora with partitioned disk but try with default partition just to be sure. My advice is downgrade to stock rom then root, change recovery and then update to any custom rom.

There is your problem. You were supposed to flash aurora 5.0 experimental zip file first. After that you have to flash the update 20 zip file (without wiping).
So, have you tried going into cwm recovery > mounts and storage > mount USB storage. Then connect the phone to your computer

Yes, you have to make sure you have upgraded to official 2.3.5. After that, flash Aurora v5 Experimental. Then flash update 20 on top without wiping.
It would be easier if you get a MicroSD card Reader.
