I have done a little looking around and came up with nothing so I thought I would post. Where are the sleep settings in CM7 for the wifi? I haven't found anything yet, and the wifi goes off when the screen turns off. Is there anyway I can set it so that wifi stays on all the time? I want to be able to get google talk notifications and email notifications all of the time, without having to wake up the kindle to get them.
in Wi-Fi settings, hit menu than advanced settings. its technically on by default, but it does drop off randomly on occasion

Thanks for the reply. I couldnt find those settings for the life of me. Mine was set to sleep the wifi when screen is off. It was set that way by default. Im going to see how the battery drain is when set to always on.

Does anyone know how to disable this feature? Every time my screen goes blank, and I turn it back on, I have this icon in the top left hand corner with a red x through it saying "turn wifi off". I want my wifi to come back on when I unlock the device, but I forced to turn it off then back on. Extremely annoying...
I may be wrong but check in the settings/applications/ manage applications and you can delete it from there. I think its called wifi status.

Just go into wifi settings and pres menu and go into advanced and set the sleep policy to "never". It saves a lot of battery. That way it doesn't disconnect when the screen goes off, nd then you'll only see it when you really have no wifi

You want your Wi-Fi connection to be available when you unlock your screen. From your Home screen:
Hit the Menu button & then go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings
Hit the Menu button (again) and select Advanced
Set the Wi-Fi sleep policy to Never
That stops the Wi-Fi radio from sleeping when the screen is turned off. This will likely solve your issue.
tried that. still there looking me in the face mocking me.... lol
What kernel are you using? Apparently this is an issue with Xtreme kernel.
may very well be. It was happening in 1.1, and now I have 1.2 (xtreme kernel) on syndicate rom.

You can remove wifi status using these steps. I do it every flash.

This is a known bug with xtreme kernel. The wifi goes to sleep with the screen off even with it set to never. Semi sporadic, and worse on 1.0.2 than 1.0.1 in my experience.
Can you recommend an app or a mod which control wifi connection when the screen is off? I notice that if I enable wifi, I got 20% battery drop per a day, but I got 2% drop if I disabled wifi. Still, I like to have wifi on when I am using it, and clicking several time to enable wifi is quite irritating (relatively). So I thought there might be a good resolution to handle this my lazy problem.
I searched it on android market, and can find several. Can you recommend any one which will work well with NookTouch? I appreciate your inputs.
Same problem pal. But I also can't fix wifi not reconnecting when nook is up from sleep state issue. Suggestions?
I use the power widget that comes with ADW. I can turn WiFi on and off from my home screen with one tap.
Is it possible for it to be done automatically? Like on my smartphone? When wifi is turned on and my nook goes to sleep mode then when it wakes up wifi is off, in "disconnected" state.
I use the program Llama. It lets you set up all sorts of conditional changes for phones (similar to Tasker).
On my nook, I have one event trigger. When wifi turns on, Llama delays for 5 minutes, then turns wifi off.
It isn't exactly the same as turning off wifi when the screen turns off, but it helps me save battery. I currently have it send a notification to let me know it is turning off wifi, so I have the option to keep wifi on if I so choose.
Edit: Llama does have an event trigger for Screen Off, but I couldn't get it to work. Maybe the Nook doesn't turn off the screen in the way standard android phones do, so the trigger doesn't run.
Edit 2: I just realized you wanted one that turns wifi off when turning the screen of, then reconnects when turning the screen on. If Llama correctly detects the screen off/on triggers, you could set up two events, one to turn wifi off and one to turn it back on. I haven't gotten it to work, so maybe Llama isn't going to work for your particular needs.

The NST is so heavily customized by B&N that you cannot rely on the "usual" events being triggered.
They only did what was necessary to save enough power and get the device to work and I don't blame them for that.
I'm pretty sure there's an event triggered that can be used for this particular task tho, if I get some spare time I might dig into it.
Well, I'm the impression, that my nook does that. I mean, when in sleeping mode - the WIFI is OFF. But when I awake the NOOK, wifi turns ON by it self and connect to internet. What I suspect, you might have the problem that other users experienced (including me) ... that you will have to change one file. Read more about it here.
I hope, this will help you.
Thx for all help !

In TorimuNooter I fixed the battery drain, pop on over to the TorimuNooter thread. The latest version (Ver 0.3) was just uploaded today!

Seems many having various wifi issues and also seems not a lot of fixes. So here goes.
Running EOS JB, and Morfic kernal. I want the wifi to shut down when ever I close my case / or when the screen goes blank (i.e. sleep). I'm sure there a various levels of sleep, but read on:
Setting in advanced to shut wifi down when sleeping, it does. BUT, it wakes up every few minutes. This has to kill the battery. I've turned off every updating I can find but that does not help. When it is asleep, it should stay asleep!
I installed Llama - I use this on my Maxx with perfection. I set the advanced settings wifi to stay on always - then set up Llama to turn it off when screen goes blank, and then back on again when screen comes on. Works perfectly! No through the night updates. BUT - when I'm USING the device, I'll lose wifi completely for no apparent reason!!! I look at Llama event log, no entries there. It is just shutting off. I have to cycle the toggle off then on again for it to restart.
So I removed Llama - it's back to "working" but still updating constantly.
Any one have any ideas on how to control this beast?
Can llama put your tab in airplane mode instead of switching WiFi off? Might be worth a try if so. I use tasker to do a very similar thing...puts tab in airplane mode 2 mins after screen off and cancels it on screen unlock.

that is another option I hadn't thought of. I've gone into advanced settings and told the wifi to stay on ALWAYS - and I'm using Llama/screen to see if works. So far so good. The problem I'm trying to solve now it seems, is keeping it on when awake. I like the airplane option an an alternative. I'll update as I go along here.
Thank you!
I'm running AOKP and when j turn my screen off the Wi-Fi turns off after a while and normally I wouldn't care except that when I am at work I have to go accept terms and condition every time it turns back on and its annoying is there any way to stop that

Settings wifi options advanced keep wifi on during sleep
I have the same problem ... but in advance wifi it's already allways keep wifi on ...
this disconennection won't happen if the music player is playing or the phone is charging...
Any idea?

Weird, it's acting like it's set to only stay on when charging.
While downloading or streaming the wifi will use wake lock to keep the device from sleeping and turning it off.
Are you on a custom rom by any chance? My best bet would be to switch back and forth between the settings a bit and do a reboot maybe, that's all I got
Last night I installed a few toggle widgets. First for auto rotation then for sound profiles then the Bluetooth one and in the end for Wi-Fi.
However after installing the Wi-Fi widget.. I noticed Wi-Fi would turn itself on without even asking my permission. This I noticed when I woke up today morning and saw an unexpected amount of battery drain. I immediately checked and the Wi-Fi was on. I remember correctly that I had switched it off in night (which comes under my daily habits after hitting the bed). Anyhow I immediately got rid of that widget by uninstalling but issue still persists.
Can anyone suggest anything to stop phone from turning Wi-Fi on itself?
Below is the app and my Wi-Fi's advance settings.

By the way.. I must add.. My phone is totally stock. And I I have had no problems with any of the apps prior to installation of this widget.

Sometimes apps like this can be a little flaky. I have HD widgets that I use to turn on my wifi and it can misbehave also. I have compensated by having a app that turns the wifi off at a particular time of day. You can also set it to turn wifi off when the screen is off. Other than that I would suggest looking for a widget that works better. There is a ton out there.
It was my bad that I downloaded this widget. I don't want to download some app to ''manage'' Wi-Fi setting off. I want to make it how it was prior this widget installation... Turning on and of myself. Is there any way.... Without the help of another app or widget

I think i need to change KEEP WIFI ON DURING SLEEP option to Never.
Can anyone attach a snapshot of his advance settings in wifi option? Like i have attached above
I believe it's the "battery guru" app you have installed... that's primarily what it does, keep you on Wi-Fi as much as possible

Emmmm.. You sure?
Because it started last night after I installed that widget. It "never" happened before that. :s
Can u post ut advance settings page's screenshot? Just need to match settings.
Pretty sure... it was happened to me, I noticed it after the learning mode was completely

So far I think this was the cause.. Snapdragon BatteryGuru.
Go to the settings in BatteryGuru and turn OFF the "Manage Wi-Fi" option. It's been an hour I have turned it off and wifi hasn't turned itself on. Therefore, I believe this option was causing wifi to show up.
I remember a friend of mine turned this option ON (the same day when I installed that wifi toggle). I just realized that after reading QUIETLYloud's post. Thanks a bunch mate.
This will help people in future.
