Well since binary upped the Nordic lt18 rom,I have been in two minds if to use or not, from what posts I have read there seems to be more negatives than positives.
Was the great ics update that big a deal or will the lt15 be better got us arc users.
The more posts I see the more hesitant I have become. At least there is away to root which is good for those with locked bootloader. Which was always a worry
To sum up I think I will wait for sony to release ics via seus or PC companion.
waiting is no hard thing when your phone is all modded up and running with no lag, games respond, wifi works as well as bluethooth.
So unless people can tell Me differently this arc user its staying on gb.

can't judge now, I have LT15i and flashed LT18i ICS ROM.
video camera recording is laggy, touch is horrible, maybe that because it's not for LT15i.
Hey Bro.....People are trying roms built for other models thats why they are having problems....Go ahead but only through PC companion...thats what I gonna do...when it will come to my country..

Just noticed your post I'm on LT15i and I have no problem with the ICS update at all. Everything works perfectly well. Just so I'm not going ahead of myself I've been using it for the past week now.

IMHO I think that if you have a LT15i probably better to wait about a week or so and flash a custom ICS rom like Acronium ICS , JJ ICS or KA ones.
They are lighter and more optimized than stock for LT18i but still have some bugs at the moment.
Seems like LT15i users who flashed the LT18i stock ICS are experiencing mixed results depending on what apps they have.
adielee,
I haven't experienced any problem being an LT15i user with any of the ICS custom roms. Maybe I'm just fortunate. I'm running multitude of application from Go SMS Pro, Touchpal, MIUI Music 2.3.9, QuickPic, PicsArt, Facebook, Google+, Gmail, K9, Box, SD Maid, Titanium Backup Pro and what not.
Might just be a bad flash for some.
After few days with ICS on my Arc, I have a feeling that GB is good enough for Arc. I never felt Arc was laggy with GB but with ICS, it shows when launching dialer.
Some advantages I noticed with ICS
1. Dialer now has smart dialing
2. You can reject call with SMS which I used to use a lot when I had WinMo 6.5
3. If you assign high resolution images to google contacts on phone, they get saved unlike on GB where you need to save a phone contact.
4. Gmail looks little better.
Besides those, it hardly matters if it's GB or ICS. With GB arc is much much smoother. I plan to go back to GB after a week more of trying out ICS to see if there are any more advantages with ICS on Arc.
Hey!
I noticed the exact same thing until I decided to get them fixed... I'm running a custom launcher "APEX" works like a charm and it's smooth hardly any memory usage. You may also want to reduce the number of background process decreased it to 2 and makes a world of difference.
Dialer situation noticed that the stock dialer took average 5 to 10 seconds in delay. I got it replaced with a different dialer and reduced the delay to a mere 1second now.
You can't really compared ICS and GB... that would be like comparing Oranges and Apples... You should also experiment with the different roms / kernel combo. You might find something better suits your needs.
If you take a look at my signature that what I'm currently on this week. Preparing to try something else at the end of the week.
Cheers.

I agree with the first three points. I'm going this weekend back to GB. I think android 4.0 is to heavy for the arc s. And personally I don't believe those who said the update is smooth like butter.
I have tried some roms but OR hdmi isn't working or something else isn't working.
So NO, I personally don't think ICS is worth it for our phones.
It still seems as if most who update to ics who have arc are not 100% happy.
some are going back to gb after a week, think the promise/thought of ics got the forum in a real frenzy
...but now there seems to be doubts if it really is the next best thing.
sent from something,somewhere,sometime ago
It's not the next best thing it's a ploy to keep Sony users happy. Phones are either going to run well with ics or they aren't people have a good idea about weather ics will run well or not and in this case it doesn't. It was only meant to have gingerbread that's just the way it is.flash custom Rom for ics it's the only way of getting it right.

wait a month and a half and see the ICS for the LT15, its way better than the rest that fits for the LT18.

Hi all first post on this forum. Its a shame i cant post in "XPERIA X10 Android Development" as i don't have a post count of 10 "But i understand why that is" i would have liked to post thanks and report bugs in his thread for this rom.
Anyways just wanted to say thanks to jerpelea for all his work on Gingerbread 2.3.3 this rom is outstanding bar a coupe of random reboots.
This rom will be even better when he works out the Camera Photo/Video Issues anyway i got a couple of screen shots of it working on my X10i with a little but of theme tweaking.
Thanks again for all your hard work MacDaddyIRC Out.
Even i'm on post 2 so cant post in development.
Thanks a million for the CM!!
I 2nd that foreveralone. Alot better than the stock SE 2.1 i can't w8 for a Android 3.0 port for x10

i would like to say thanks but there is an update from SE that they are bringing out the 2.3.3 gingerbread on the x10 either at the end of Q2 or start of Q3 of the year.
The point is, with the SE update we will able to use the CM mod completely using the SE kernal. Also, compared with the stock rom, the CM rom is more optimized for performance.
Or if the devs here can write a 2.3.3 kernal before SE does...that would be amazing =D

Just in case. Its a free 6 month trial so it was free and my email got hacked and im not sure how so better to be safe than sorry.
Kaspersky is much better and its protection is better than other Mobile Av
At the end of the day I use these and test these roms and all have crashed or failed in one way or another and I'm not saying they should not be used but a stock rom is more reliable and safer to use. If there is a better rom then theres then I will use it. But I'm not risking bricking my phone for a rom that is not reliable from all bugs.

So, at the moment I have a Desire running CM7, and I LOVE it, I simply can't ask for more. However, upgrade day arrived today and I called Orange and ordered an S2. Read a few reviews of it beforehand and the specs just blow me away.
Any one have any useful advice from going to a Desire to a Galaxy?

I'd disagree when I flashed to 2.3.4 I could almost see the battery go down as I used it and instantly flashed back to 2.3.3
However a lot of people are getting better battery life so maybe you might be lucky but personally speaking stick to stock first see how you get on and then flash a new rom.
The official 2.3.4 should be out this month
2.3.4 is not a Samsung release only a leaked test rom .
Personally i would learn before flashing and be able to recover to stock/original firmware for warranty purposes .

Went from a Desire to the SGS2 and haven't looked back since. I think it's a great move. In contrast to what you read above, I'd recommend to stay stock for a while. Learn a little about touchwiz. TW is just as smooth, maybe even smoother, than CM7 on the Desire, believe me. There is really no advice to give, they are both great devices, but you will love the SGS2.

Upgrade to a custom rom, they are muuuch better, keeping in mind the warranty problems and such. I´m running a custom 2.3.4 and it´s perfect.
How about the issue on gaming? Does 2.3.4 got better game support?

There currently couple of ICS Roms now in our forum (MIUI, Virtuous, CM9, and CG). But my question is, I am a real beginner when it comes to phone system devs, so, when I tried all the newest version of each ICS Roms, I do not feel any major differences. The camera does not work, same issues with crashing, slowness, and etc. I am not complaining about the issues and bugs, but I am wondering what's the difference between each rom? Are there any major difference? And what are we expecting next for the rom? Camera?

OK first of all MIUI ICS is much different then the other ics roms there is more customization in a much easier way and a whole different experience even thought they come from the same source I believe. Now when is comes down to the difference between virtuous and CM9 is the mods and other stuff that you won't notice I personally like virtuous it looks more professional with the mods such as the setting toggle in the notification bar its just me. CG is more of a stock experience so you won't see any mods just pure stock experience. That's the major changes I see and with the bugs I don't really know but there all being worked on with pretty much Feb so if camera doesn't work with one it won't work with the other just give him time I'm sure its coming very soon

This is where I get partially confused, i was running MIUIce Cream Sandwich (ICS v4.0.1) and have had NO issues whatsoever, the camera works, video recording works, and it is fast as all get out (3200-3300 quad consistent o/c to 1.5GHz). I was trying (and failing thus far) to find the camera framework, and hardware ID information from this ROM and inject it into one of the new ICS ROMs we have available.
what all would i need to pull from MIUIce cream sandwich in order to get a working camera in any of the other ICS roms? i know at least i would need to pull the camera .so files from system/lib, but is there any other completely necessary files that should be pulled to get this to work?
im really hoping that a dev stumbles across this and could point me in the right direction, because the camera CAN work, and i have a feeling i am really close to getting it to work, but i don't have the know how (quite yet) of the more experienced devs here.
i really wish it was as easy as my GS4G was when GB ROM leaks started surfacing, that was a 5 minute fix once the right tools came along lol

foxxx50h, were you running the now discontinued Galnet Miui release? If so, I know what you mean. Since I was using that and it was great. The only serious glitch was that the market place crashed whenever you tried to preview the pics.
If you want something like that, Dark_Sys released a newer version, but it reads a GB code and not ICS. And it's quite good and stable. Everything works too. Super great on battery.

Then you can buy a Gnex or wait I know I'm starting to envy the Gnex. I'm just waiting for the HTC Ville which (Should) be unveiled at MWC towards the end of this month..It should be an absolute BEAST
i've been using creamed glacier since december as a daily. two main issues on it are the camera and low mic volume - though that comes and goes.
quattro was a mess for me. once booted the setup routine would crash out and widgets would constantly crash the launcher no matter what i tried.
testing out cm9 right now. big problem is that launcher (NOVA even) crashes a lot. otherwise call volume is great. runs decent. one great thing there is that it actually contacts google and restores apps. plus i received an email from google congratulating me on my purchase of a galaxy nexus

I have seen a lot of talk lately with people comparing the ICS development ROM's to Task 14.. I have been swapping back and forth almost daily between AOKP #23 and Task 14 Slim so here are my thoughts..
1st of all both are awesome ROM's that offer plusses and minuses depending on what each individual wants and needs.. These observations are based on MY wants and needs so opinions will vary.. The fact that Task 14, a HC 3.2 ROM even gets mentioned / compared to an ICS ROM speaks volumes about how good it is..
Things I like about AOKP #23:
--Browser hardware acceleration
--No screenshot soft key (I loathe that thing)
--ROM Control
--Ability to set # of homescreens
--Swipe to dismiss
Things I like about Task 14:
--Rock solid and stable
--Camera works for video chat
--Just as fast as ICS in many areas and faster in some
--Mini widgets
--Several awesome themes available
The AOKP is actually pretty stable for the most part and Roman and team have done an awesome job on it but remember it's a beta so there is issues and bugs at the time of this posting.. Task 14 is super rock solid and its really only limited by HC 3.2..
I honestly can't decide which I like better.. They both ROCK! I guess that's why I change between them daily..
A few AOKP issues I have is with apps and the screen.. Words with friends is a good example of this.. Also, the screen gets a little glitchy at times when viewing online images.. Nothing major and by no means a put down on AOKP...
I have had zero issues on Task 14 that are not widespread HC 3.2 related..
If you can live without the camera and are willing to experience a few minor bugs here and there then the AOKP may be for you.. If however you want rock solid with zero bugs, a working camera and a system that is just as fast then Task 14 may be for you..
These are MY thoughts and comparison of 2 kick a$$ ROM's... Thoughts and replies are welcome but please don't turn this thread into a pi$$ing match...
You're just asking for a pissing match. I'll just watch... for now...:sly:

I hope not since they are both awesome ROM's...
I've tried ics, very fast and smooth without touchwiz is a godsend. There is only one 3g ics rom so I have not tried romanb's yet. 3g is a big deal to me. Other thing with isc is no proper USB/mass storage support. It does not show all files that I've downloaded from net except whatever files I transferred to tab. Camera is another big issue for me, or lack of. Video does not work also from the rom I tried. Some apps on market not supported also so cant update. That's my summary of isc. HC3.2 on the other hand is improving. I have not tried Task as again no 3g. I'm a big fan of Alterbridge and his Overcome roms. Been using his rom since the original Tab. His latest 2.3.0 soup up with pershoot kernel is more than great for me. ISC is great but for my daily usage, its not ready yet.

Good comparsion between the two. Personally, I use Task14 with b00sted's ICS theme. No ICS can compare to it right now, but once the camera issue is solved, ICS will be boss.
All us Task fans are hoping for a Task ICS ROM soon.
BTW, good thread OP.

He is comparing what is available today. The OP is well aware that ICS is in development but he is looking for a daily driver and was looking for others opinions on what we use.
Until ICS is official there is no way to do a 1 for 1 comparison.

Easy you try them both and yes ics is alpha but thats what is available now and is the point of this thread. I came to the same conclusion as the OP after using both kang versions. the arguably incremental improvement in smoothness does not outweigh the full functionality goodness of galaxytask
Adding Visidon even gives me face unlock features and with camera ics+ i get the camera panorama functionality on my galaxy task rom

Even though it is supposed to be alpha (since the Camera mainly does not work and there are also some minor bugs), it is quite stable for daily use as I myself use it and the best part is there are some amazing customisation options ..... literally mind blowing!
Thanks for the review. Still haven't custom rom'd it up yet.
When does the official ics come out?
i have found that the battery in the latest ICS kangs (not the one on XDA as that doesnt get updated! but the one on rootzwiki) is by far lots better than any HC.
So indeed for an alpha release ICS is looking very good compare to an already establish HC rom.
So I can only imagine how good ICS will be when SS releases it...hopefully in April..
bit OT interesting that there are no leaks yet from samfirmware!

Oh and btw Samsung Ics is a piece of crap. Slow as **** and worse than Gb. Cm9 is the best way to enjoy Ics...

You're right... I'm using AOKP ROMs even if there are these bugs like broken MTP. There still better then the stock crap
I saw that pocketnow (website) also made a video on a S II running the official ICS. But after a few minutes, I got bored. Whenever I will flash my first ICS ROM, I will make it look like stock ICS. Samsung really shouldn't have kept the same old touchwiz...

I know where you're coming from, but I think Samsung would get a lot more grief if they fundamentally changed the launcher as part of the ICS upgrade.
Which makes more sense: keep the launcher the same and annoy a relatively small number of geeks (who have the knowledge required to install a replacement launcher anyway) or change the launcher and annoy the much larger group of "regular" users who treat the device as a tool rather than as a toy?
Your right but i think they should keep the look and feel of tw but add some more options to it. So that tw by itself is more customizable and so there is even no need for new and old users to search an alternative
Have been running ICS for a while now.. and it just slow down my device.. Offical ICS = ****
Thanks for the video!
