In call headset equalization - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I have searched and read a lot of posts on headset volume, but am still confused.
My understanding is that the in-call headset sound can be adjusted by the volume rocker, but otherwise changing the sound (e.g. bass boost, treble boost) is not possible without changing system files or the kernel.
In other words, tools like DSP Manager and Volume+ cannot affect the in-call headset equalization. They only impact media playback.
Is this understanding correct?
On a related note, I read in an XDA forum for another android phone that DSP Manager and Volume+ should not be on the same phone at the same time, i.e. if you want to try Volume+, you should remove DSP Manager first. Can anyone clarify for the HD2?

You understand it.
About DSP and Volume+ at the same time, it is possible but will probably give you static, distortion or Force closes.
So yes if you want to try Volume+ you should remove DSP Manager first.

Yes, upon first launch of volume plus, there is a message that clearly explains the issues when using both. I personally love volume plus

Graphic equalizer

I listen to the internet radio through the loudspeaker, never with earphones. Consequently I can't use the audiobooster so I was wondering, is there a standalone graphic equalizer that will work without having headphones attached? I use Wunder Radio.
Also, as a secondary issue, the volume control is a problem. I have to use the up/down volume control on the side of the handset but this means that when I lower the radio volume (even the lowest setting is way too loud), my system volume is then on super-quiet setting after I've closed my radio....and I don't hear my text alerts etc.
Is there a way to adjust the volume in apps without adjusting the phone volume settings?
I'm not sure about the graphic equalizer but you can sort your sound issue by going to Settings>Sound & Display and switching the Single volume setting to off. That will allow you to change system sounds (including the volume of your radio software) without affecting the ring volume.
Use SRS WOW. Search it.

Sorry for the stupid question, but which application do you use for internet radio? Thanks, and happy holidays!

It is precisely the system volume which is my problem, this governs text alert notifications amongst other things. Once you have set system volume levels in the sounds menu, they should stay 'set'. I don't like this ability to adjust them using the volume control on the side of the handset - that should be reserved solely for in-call volume adjustments and application volume adjustments.

Adjust A2DP Volume from phone?

Did a search, but "A2DP Volume" returns mainly headset reccomendations etc.
Just got a Altec lansing T515. Bargain at just £15 inc p+p!
Paired up fine with the HD2 and seems to work great so far (for the price).
My only dissapointment is that the volume controls on the phone do nothing to the volume of the headset/speakers.
I was really planning on getting some good use out of this wireless audio through a better amp and speakers but would really need to be able to use the HD2 as a remote control (Inc volume control).
Is there an app/utility/reg hack that will let me adjust the A2DP volume directly on the HD2???
Any and all advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
try it with windows media player and not the htc sense music player
Thanks mate, tried that.... same deal (almost).
When I adjust the volume inside WMP it still does nothing to the volume of the speaker/headset BUT when I press the mute button or lower the vol to 0% the sound on the BT Speaker DOES mute.
Also at one point I did get some funky 'pairing' problem where the wireless volume was changing using the HD2 volume rocker but the sound quality was terrible. Not sure what happened but I switched off/on bluetooth and when the devices paired again - the sound was back to good quality but the volume no longer worked.
Can anyone please confirm that I should be able to control the volume using the HD2 on ANY A2DP headset/speaker?
I'm currently using EnergyRom Maxsense 23xx 24th July.
Might switch to the 21July 23121 CHT ROM instead to see if that changes things.
But can anyone first please confirm that this SHOULD be working? or let me know of a regHack /cab/app I need to use or apply to get this 'remote volume' working?
Anyone help on this ^^^ please?
Same problem here with expensive Sony headset and reasonably priced JVC. Report it to HTC as a fault. No fix yet afaik
hmm well im getting my jaybird sportsband in a few days through mail, ill report in on if they work or not
This problem i have with all my bluetooth headsets ( i have had 3 ) and also have with the altec lansing soundblade (a bluetooth speaker - really cool)
the problem is that the volume control in software only effects the audio drive,a but A2D2 driver is on a different path so not affected.
For me has not been a problem because volume is always outputted at max via A2D2 and then i use volume control on the headsets or the speaker to reduce as required.
But i see if you have a headset without volume control then this can be a major problem.
Only method i did find to adjust volume via software was install SRSwow and in the options it is having 2 gain settings, input and output. Adjusting these does affect A2D2 volume.
I know its not a fix but it is a work around that may be usefull untill someone has a better option for you
Thanks very much for your input peeps!
rumpleforeskin: (Funniest name Ive seen all week lol)
Sounds like its not just a problem with my headset/speaker (or headset / ROM combo).
Ive got volume controls (which do work) On the headset adapter and on the speaker, but I REALLY want/need to be able to control volume remotely as I was planning to link the adapter to an amp without a remote control.
Looks like SRSWow might be the solution for now....I'll give it a try and report back tonight.
Thanks again for all your help chaps.
I actually fear this could be a demonstration the output audio is hardware wired and not software driven, thus meaning full incall recording will never be possible.

doubt it man, on the iphone 3gs on 3.0 u couldnt switch the volume of the headset through the phone but now with the 4.0 software u can , so its just a case of misssing software.
I use tcpmp and I can control the volume from the software while using my BT headsets (peltor)

Tried this ^^^, Works great for everything, thanks!
Only slight problem is a ~4 second lag between adjusting the volume and the change in actual volume.
Dont suppose there is any tweak to remedy this??
Thanks again for the help.

[Q] Any app to increase the volume?

Well, sometimes there are some podcasts whose volume is quite low and quite dificult listen to them. One solution would be to increase the volume by pc, but I'm triyin to find an easier solution through the mobile.
I saw some aplications like volume booster, but any of them worked in our U8800. That is why I want to ask you if any of you know how to fix it.
THX!
Volume + should be working. Ret4rt includes it in hes rom.
Sent from my Derp using XDA Herp
I'm using dsp manager from cyanogenmod. its quite good.you can use app named 'equailizer' if have non rooted mobile.
Volume+ tested and doesn't work the volume increase (I use the rooted 2.3 stock Rom)
About DSP Manager it just let control de volume, but doesn't increase it, does it?
earphone sound volume is increased a bit can't say about speaker volume.

[Q] Bluetooth volume boost?

Can any kernels or apps allow me to boost bluetooth volume for music? I recently bought a set of bluetooth headphones. They're the Creative Labs WP-350s, which are awesome by the way, but are lacking in loudness.

Volume + by Meltus in Play allows increasing volume in bluetoot settings. Use it myself and it work well for me.
Thanks for replying. I tried the free version but it seems to actually be louder without the volume amplification. Is the paid version any better?

I use the paid version and it works well for me. Try it and if you don`t like it refund it within 15 munutes.
Just tried with and without volume boost and the difference in volume is clearly noticable. Also go into settings/sound/music effects and chose Volume+ as default.

I tried it with the boost on and off but it's definitely louder with it off. It might not be working right because I have Nexuslouder installed. I'll remove it and try the paid version of Volume+ and see if that makes a difference.

Is there away to make the volume for Media louder? Aux & headphones aren't loud.

Headphones and AUX isn't getting loud enough. In the car I must blast full volume to even to get a decent sound but it won't ever get loud! It sucks! Is there a way to fix this?
There's a magisk module that increases the max volume for aux/bluetooth playback. Pretty sure it's just a build.prop setting, so would need root at the very least. Otherwise there are alternative 'sound processors' like viper4android which exist as magisk or xposed modules, that allow further tweaking for gain and loudness.
Dolby Atmos (Universal) from coolstardevil

I will give you the app that allows you to have great sound, with extreme volume. You must flash this with TWRP or a custom recovery
Download the Dolby Atmos zip here
When you open the app turn on Volume Leveler, you will see the difference
Otherwise if you don't have a custom recovery there is a couple app on the play store that will help you out but I find alot of distortion in the music with these apps activated

Cmon... don't post direct downloads on xda - link to the project page. Developers put a lot of work into what they give us for free, the least you can do is point users to a thread where they can see what they are downloading as well as look for support when things go wrong. You arent helping out anyone when you just blindly say 'download and flash this' - best case scenario you get inundatedwith countless pm's, worst case you help some idiot break their phone.

To the OP, a side note.. every time you plug in an aux cord or headset, android automatically lowers its media volume to a 'safe level'. So every time you plug it in, you will need to manually increase the volume after acknowledging a warning about that very same thing. Can't be avoided without hacking a change, either via an xposed module like gravity box or a custom rom.
That said, the media volume/impedance leaves much to be desired.. which is why many turn to atmos or viper4android, which level out volumes and add gain - they butcher the actual audio quality, at the expense of increased perceived loudness. But lets be honest - very few that care about loudness worry about fidelity (I'm one of the few)

Uhm I'm going to look around the build.prop. I found away you can edit build.prop without rooting.

I'll try it out see what happens.
EDIT: Works awesome!!! It even has 100x better sounds now at a lot higher levels. So crisp, cleaner bass, better mids.
Thanks given guys - installed on my H1611 too after reading this thread . It does install into the system partition for anyone wondering.

Beware that your notification volume may be higher than what you are expecting with notification volume set to the lowest audible level when Dolby Atmos is on/enabled. Fortunately Dolby Atmos has an off switch. And watch out if you turn the Volume Leveler on
Edit: Oh and call volume is tweaked with the "Volume Leveler" so be careful!!!
I would avoid turning Volume Leveler on until first observing the effects on volumes with just Dolby Atmos on, then test with Surround Virtualizer on, then with Dialogue Enhancer on. Only turn Volume Leveler on if you don't get enough volume with the other settings on.
