Well I flashed the ICS rom and all is well, I used the advanced stock kernel with CWM. Now today I have had no signal all day yet by battery has drained like you wouldnt believe. Yesterday I went all day and loads of juice left but I had signal today i had no signal and had my battery eaten ?
weird ?
Did you follow the whole procedure? looking at baseband, kernel and ICS Rom? If not please check it and redo the procedure.
Yes I did doh

Hi!
I have the "same" issue like yours. It's starting with battery drain and the end of no baseband version and can't get signal too.

Like I said it's not the signal issues it's the battery drain while I have no signal

Thats normal behavior... The phone will try to caught a signal at any coat hence the phone doesn't go to sleep and the heavy battery drain shows... Specially if you set the phone to 3G only and have no reception

the exact same thing happened to me too. there is something up with the new baseband, i see that my android-system has high usage ... the sony's ics roms' android system goes into a loop while trying to do syncs cuz of the baseband. try baseband .66

yeah, but the signal/reception was there. both my wifi and 3g were disconnected when i woke up while the cell signal was at 4 bars.
plus turning the 3g and the wifi off and back on fixed the issue. sony has had baseband problems with their ICS beta s well that baseband 66 fixed for me (all the other ones were causing sync-loops causing high android-system usage).
So the battery drain may be caused by baseband 70?
I have this problem and the GSM data transfer is measured by single digit Kbyte.
Once GSM data is off, battery stop dropping.
I have to depend on wifi until something turns up.
the current Nordic ICS FW was built for BB 70, hence it has BB libs in the rom. If your phone doesn't have BB 70 then you have a mismatch and all sorts of strangeness may occur.
either flash BB70 FW or flash the correct BB libs for your current BB.
I have problems with BB 70 too. My phone after a couple of hours, or after rebooting, says that the SIM card is Invalid.
If I flash BB 64 with its libs, then I hav signal but still the messaje "Invalid Sim card".
it's BB 70 the faulty one

This is a polite request that the wonderful chefs in this forum please look at the extreme battery drain issues that were brought up here... It appears that trying to run any custom rom on the softbank version of the device creates a huge drain.
I can run stock rom with custom kernels perfectly, so maybe there are just a few files that needed to be tweaked/removed from custom roms to prevent this drain.
Thank you for the time and hopefully there is a simple fix for this!
I am in Oki using a SoftBank 001HT as well and had the same problem till my phone took a swim and I got a new one. Softbank said they repaired it but I had a totally new serial number, the only part I got back from my original phone was the sim/sd card cover.
With my original phone Current Widget was reporting a -150ma drain in standby when everyone else was reporting -3ma. The only way I could get a -3ma drain was to have the phone in airplane mode. I am currently running CyanogenMod 7 with my new phone and now i get -3ma drain in standby with data on, wifi on, bluetooth on, and data sync on just like everyone else.
Try following the steps in this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080 And if that doesn't work try getting a new phone from softbank.

you just answered the question
by turning on airplane mode, you disable all radio functions. your battery drain stops so it's radio related.
try flashing different radios and see which one is the best for you.
I tried several radios and roms and still had -150ma drain with the old phone. I am using one of the same radios and roms that gave me -150ma drain on the old phone with my new phone and now I only have -3ma drain in standby.
My drain figures are just averages.

Thank you for clarifying that, cause i am on my 5th radio and none drain less than about 140ma unless in airplane mode.
So it must be something deeper than the radio.img...maybe a file in the ROM that wont let the radio ever go idle.
If someone could look at the files from a softbank japan ROM and compare them against the files of these other ROMs, we may be able to figure out the drain issue.
If anyone has any other ideas...please chime in!
Just for reference my stock ROM(the one that has no drain issues) is 1.35.762.2 CL277010
Just to clarify I am currently running CyanogenMod 7.0.0 stable release and radio 26.04.02.17 on my SoftBank branded 001HT with only -3ma in standby. I also ran it with radio 26.08.03.07 but my gps kept loosing lock. It was my old 001HT that had the -150ma drain problem.
The root and flash procedures I used were the ones on the on the Cyanogen Wiki page. I don't know if that makes any difference.

Looks like Softbank received a faulty batch of phones because I am having the same issues. Tried every rom/radio combo, but everything fails. ~150ma battery drain. The battery drain issue is getting rather annoying and I think I am going to do what you did and return the pos to softbank to get it fixed.
Did you root your old unit before returning it? If you did, did you unroot it before you went to the softbank shop?

It was rooted, Radio S-off, ENG S-off, Recovery Flashed, running one of the LeeDroid versons (even with -150ma drain with the screen off this rom gave me 6-7 hours vs. 3-4 CM7 was giving me), and I don't remeber what radio but it wasn't stock.
I was drunk at a bar when I knocked it in to the sink behind the bar and by the time I noticed, it was dead. I dried it with a hair dryer when I got home but it would not turn on so after I turned it in to SoftBank I dont think they could tell it was hacked or even cared since it was covered by the insurance.
I think hacking only voids the warrenty not damage protection insurance. Technicly if you brick your phone hacking it you damaged the phone and I assume the insurance would cover that. I only had to pay something like Y8500 and wait 2 weeks for them to "repair" it. They didn't repair anything, just gave me a new phone with a new serial number without the sim/sd cover and gave me my old cover back.
When I got my new phone the 1st thing I did was test it with current widget with the stock rom but the value was 0ma all the time. I went ahead and flashed it because 6-7 hours with LeeDroid was better then the stock rom and to my suprise i was getting the -3ma drain everyone was talking about so I flashed CM7 and still had -3ma standby drain. I thought it was SoftBanks network causing the problem at 1st, not the phone.
I don't think softbank users should assume that its a bad batch of DesireHD's just yet and try to get new phones. It could be other reasons and they should try the troubleshooting steps in the 2nd post 1st and try different rom and radio combinations and if they have tried EVERYTHING, then talk to softbank. I will post part of my 1st and 2nd serial numbers up when i get home and maybe they can be compaired or something then mabe we can confirm a bad batch.
I tried CM7 the last couple of days (which is very nice) and I didn't have any battery drain issues. That was my first Android Custom rom here in Japan on the Desire HD. I'm now playing with RCMix HD (also very nice) and I'll see how the battery lasts on that. I've not changed or installed any radios at this point. Are you sure you are using the correct APN etc?
(It can cost you a lot of money if you are not and your data bill is charged differently.)
On a second note: I really love this Touch Input keyboard in RCMix HD, and I'm not sure if the audio was better in CM7. If you try them out - please give me your opinions.
This is a double post reply.. I wanted to be clear that battery drain wasn't a problem with CM7 and I haven't changed or touched my radio. I'll see how RCMix HD holds up..
I am using Spike CM 7 right now. I like it a lot, but I'm only getting about 6-7 hours out of my phone now too. I need to figure out how to slow down the battery drain because it is super inconvenient to charge my phone twice per day.
My first phones serial number was:
HT0B6RX0**** <---- was BOUGHT 12/2010
Second phone was:
HT12JRXA**** <--- was MADE 03/2011
I am using CyanogenMod 7 and these are all the radios I have tried:
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 <--- Similar to stock radio
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF <--- Similar to stock radio
12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M <--- Poor battery life
12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 <--- Similar to stock radio
12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M <--- Great battery life but GPS did not stay locked
12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 <--- GPS did not stay locked
The ones that I say are similar to stock are similar in battery drain and performance. 26.08.03.07 is the only one that showed much improved battery life but the GPS would not stay locked.
26.08.03.07 would give me 3-5ma 90% of the time with 60ma spikes 5% and up to 200ma the last 5%.
Stock and the other similar radios would give 3-5ma 50% and 150-200ma the other 50%.
Others my get different results. I am going back to 26.08.03.07 and check to see if the battery drain is as good as the 1st time I used it and to see if there is something I can do to keep my GPS locked.
OK, I have a little promising news as far as the battery drain! I flashed inspired saga v 1.0.1 made for the inspire 4g and I was getting a drain of 3ma with Wifi on and 1ma with it off(while screen is off)! The extreme downfall though was that a lot of programs were force closing, messaging and phone were broke, and cellular data wasn't working either.
So it looks like we may be able to use the inspire 4g roms as a base to see if we can get a working GB rom on our "mystery" softbank phones
Hope this helps!!

Got my dhd back from softbank the other day. I initially asked them to have a look at it because of the horrible battery drain, and possibly replace it but no dice. They said everything was fine with the battery (well of course, the battery isn`t the culprit in this case) but they did end up replacing the camera and the proximity sensor.
Still trying to figure out the battery life issue though. I tried the saga rom but the battery life isnt too great with that either. Maybe its due to the radio working properly with the new rom?
Did anyone try the new softbank ruu? Wondering how the battery life is with the new rom...
Do you have a link for it. I would love to test it.

You can grab it from this thread:

Make sure you have radio s-off before flashing though. Flashing the ruu will replace everything including recovery and bootloader so you will need s-off to downgrade again, if you need to, using and older ruu.

Hey, isn't BUJV9 UK branded Vodafone firmware? I would like to know if the firmware has any Vodafone branding or apps if I install this firmware.
Thanks.
Its vodafone. The only added app i could see is a '360 update' app, for OTA updates i think. Easy enough to remove. And no branding. I installed Brotuck's rom on top anyway.
No Android OS bug you say.. I might have to check it out!

hm interesting..
I might try to flash it tonight.
Can I still use CF-root JVO for this firmware too?
Please share your experience with android OS battery drain!

Like has been said, the only 'branding' is a Vodafone 360 app.
I'm using the phone heavily and getting at least 16 hours out of it.
Gaming, GPS, WiFi and listening to music over Bluetooth. No battery drain as yet.
The one thing I'm doing different from when I was on JVO is that the phone is unrooted.
I'll root soon and see if any issues pop up.
Ok...I had left my phone on the table for about 20 minutes. Wifi was activated, but screen was off.
Looked at battery stats and saw that Android OS was on 29% where it had previously been 4% earlier in the day.
The last apps I had run were music player (over Bluetooth), and MyTracks.
Seems it's not quite fixed, but it seems better than JVO.

KC1 works well if the reception is poor and you have to use other network's signal and not Bell's. I've had JVO on 850 come up as network not available in locations KC1 had no problem connecting in. And if you're like me skiing or hiking in the backcountry, not having a signal is an option not worth having.
Good informative thread, by the way.
Browser scrolling is still only a few pages at a time and not end to end scrolling like Froyo.
Android OS issue I had may have been due to leaving WiFi selected because it hasn't happened again in normal phone use.
Battery life is generally good.
Thanks.

Draining like hell. Can't even last for a day due to radio issue . The issue is there in .283 & .42.
i've not seen a fw that had great battery life...
on cm041, miui the drain was there as well....
what is wrong here....
Slightly off topic: I'm getting about 8-10 hours with pretty heavy usage on CM7.1.0.1. When I leave it on standby, I have about 10% drain after about 8-9 hours of standby, with the occasional time check.
And back to topic, thanks for having the generic SG ROM here, I might go back to this as I have some issues with Wi-Fi tethering on CM7.
Just to add on, i had previously used the .283 version, battery was good. Then i started to root and unlock bootloader, and installed the doomlord v12 for .283, battery drain about 10-15% overnight in 6hrs. Days back, I had flashed the SG ROM .042, the battery was good again, averaging 3% overnight. Its proven to be good.
3% drain overnight is impressive. Which kernel are you using? Stock .0.42?

Same experience as me. But I turn off the data connectivity at night.
As far I used (I used almost all the versions, I guess) the .368 firmware is the best of battery usage. I usually get 24-26 hrs of usage (I would say pretty heavy, with all guns up... [BT, WiFi, GPS]) out of it, compared to this .42 firmware, I can't cross 15 hrs mark!!!
But from what I experimented, I understand that it's the baseband that is giving problem. I notice that there are many users from SG here and specially from SingTel, if you guys observe closely, the network coverage is poor with this firmware compared to the previous .145 firmware. So I'm planning to flash back the old baseband on to the new firmware and give a try whether the battery life improves together with the network coverage.
How do I know which firmware I am using?
Ok, I am on .0.42 world generic now. Let me monitor and revert.
Sent from my LT15i
I'm on stock kernel, and i'm using Juice defender Ultimate, let it auto manage my battery-drain stuffs, so i need no worry on forgetting to switch off any batt drain functions. I"m not sure if the SETCPU profiles works, I just enable the profile when screen off I set to 245MHz max 122MHz min. Mine is M1 set.
Kinda tired of flashing custom rom/kernel.. there's always some problem with the features, i.e. 0 batt, wifi cannot connect, batt drain etc etc.. stick to stock for the moment.. Root hp is good enough to play with some stuffs for the moment. Especially ad free.
Personally I don't like any programs that turns off my data to save the battery. It defects the purpose of having data plan moreover, you miss the updates (I've tried lot of applications like Juice defender and I experience the same issue...missing the updates, even the Whatsapp messages are not delivered to you on time).
Now I've flashed the old baseband (from UK .368 firmware) on to the latest firmware (.42 SG) for testing to see how is the battery drainage
I have also many problems with signal in places where i hadn`t before . And I'm from SPAIN with 4.0.2.A.0.42, even recommended to put it in airplane mode
In 4.0.2.A.0.58 update Are they fixed ?
Yes, using the lt15i rom and at certain spots, the signal will reset every hr or so. I am in canada with rogers

Im on .58 still having this problem !
Is this doomkernel faulty? Im using doom kernel
I should note I use LT15a, you should state your model. I'm using doomkernel v15 with no issue, stock ROM otherwise.
I got problem with my Neo too since I update to .42. Not the biggest issue but I notice in the battery graph much more time without a signal than before. Stock ROM and Kernel here.
thats what i say.
anybody has the same problem
I dont know if its same as you guys but my bars are always fulklk cause I have very good signal in my area but if I go battery usage and click on the graph it shows my signal as orangy colour which means signal is crap. Normally its always green. I only noticied this since .42
Exactly the same men
Yes i'm also facing the same issue of signal drop and reception getting refreshed every time after update. Since i'm on 3G 24/7 I have also noticed that the phone gets bit heated up every time in standby also causing the battery drain fast.
Try the .368 baseband (-36) with the latest firmware. The reception issue will disappear. I'm using it for quite sometime and it's pretty stable and neat.

* Just listening to TuneIn radio during the night as I fall asleep (a tiny 32kbit stream) = 6 hours batterylife on fresh charge. My old SGS2 was still playing radio when I woke up. The SGS4 dies during the night. (even though SGS2 had 1650mAh, and SGS4 has 2600mAh. WTF.)
* Browsing internet using Dolphin and max brightness = roughly 10 hours total, with roughly 3h30m screen time
* some browsing, some poweramp, mostly deep sleep = roughly 20 hours total
* mobile data OFF = 6 hours screen time (which is why mobile data is probably the culprit in my specific case)
I recently installed BBB, and this is what I found on a fresh charge cycle, after about 2,5 hours of using mobile data (screen OFF) and from 100% is now just 85%. again, SCREEN OFF and mobile data has eaten up 15% in 2.5 hours. Ive been downloading stuff, screen on total 5m)
msm_hsic_host (29%)
fast_dormancy (21%)
powermanagementservice (11%)
Ive noticed these three are mostly in the top when using my phone normally during a day.
My phone is 6 days old. Its on the 9th cycle or something like this.
I tried Stock MF8 rom + MF8 kernel (Battery King and Omega)
I also tried GE kernel ausdim, aswell as stock.
I recently upgraded rom to Wanamlites MGA + Adam kernel and I see alot of general improvements as to battery and heating.
Although I am still far from satisfied.
I tried disabling Fast Dormancy using Gokhanmoral app for the S3, but that did not change anything at all. FD still at about 15%+ as it was yesterday with FD Enabled.
My Carrier is 3(SE) which DoES support Fast Dormancy 8.
any advice on the issues, especially the first wakelock which I cant seem to find anything on?!
I found on Nexus 4 this issue but not SGS4.
Sorry to say but I think we will have to wait for a fix from google.. seems the problem is with jelly bean..
I have tried almost all custom roms and using the latest firmware.... but no use..media server still eats too much battery.. there is hardly any deep sleep...
Yea there maybe a few tweaks you may apply using 3rd party softwares to optimize battery at the existing inefficient level....

Thanks
But this thread is about mobile data not the media server issue present here
I have plenty of deep sleep too.
msm_hsic_host seems to be connected to the modem somehow. Try flashing a different modem.

Did try with both MF8 and MGA.
Could the non-hlos.bin ("wifi fix") have anything to do with it? Cus I flashed that one too so it matched my rom and modem (MGA)

I'm using MGA ROM with Deodexed and Zipaligned apps by DjeMBeY and KT kernel with recommended settings, at night I enable Flight Mode and it only dropped 2% battery in 10 hours

You could try using the default modem that it came with the phone and see if msm_hsic_host still exists

Yes with flight mode i also get excellent battery.
Thanks I'll try the stock 3(Se) modem from may like it was when I got phone.
Think it was MEA or something.
Just realized MGA is also for my region and carrier same as MEA do I doubt it will be different but I'll try later.
Another thing is, could bad reception be a battery drain too?
Cus I've been on holiday past week and connection is between 3g, h+ and no data constantly. Also GSM is constantly no bars to 2 bars.
Could this constant change and bad reception be reason for the msm_hsic_host wakelock?

Bad reception signal will cause using more battery as it's trying to search for signal
maybe you have Fast Dormancy not set correctly to your mobile operator?
