Hi,
I have an orange spv m3100 unlocked to virgin (t-mobile). I was under the impression that the service led (constant, flashing, green) could be customised somehow to reflect events like new voicemail, missed call, new text message etc. Start / Settings / Sounds and Notifications / Notifications seems to back up this theory but all I ever get is a constantly flashing green light all the time other than when charging. Then, the light is solid amber.
I've witnessed an unlocked m700 do what I'd like, which is to change the colour of the led under the circumstances outlined above. I've tried nueLED without success and was wondering if there is a simple way to achieve what I'd like. Obviously a free solution would be preferable, but I'd consider paying as this is an important feature for me.
Thanks.
I honestly don't know if its possible, could be a registry edit or then again it may be something you can't play around with... NueLED lets you change the LEDs colour that flashes for different functions but I don't believe it lets you change the timing...
Sorry...
In which case I wonder why the phone gives me the option to "flash light" when e.g. I get a voice mail or a text. Surely this refers to changing the properties of the LED ?
not sure
I might be missing what your asking, but I have the official wm6 att rom on my phone and it switches to yellow flashing when I have a text/missed call etc.....
which rom are you using?
I'm running CRC's rom but it would be a pretty standard function I would think.
Apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but are you setting the events up?
On mine, I set the events I want to see the flashing light for in
Settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications
Then I need to choose the event (EG: Phone: Missed Call) and choose the various settings.
IIRC none of them had the setting for 'Flash light for' set to on when I first flashed the ROM.

I'm kind of interested in giving WM6 a go - could you provide a link ?

No apology necessary, I'm a super noob at all this smartphone malarkey.
But...I've set this up for all the notifications I require and still no joy.
Am currently trialling a combination of led killer and phonealarm apps to solve this. Appears to work reasonably well, but sledgehammers and nuts spring to mind.
I think.... is not posible
Is too much settings for the led! hahahaha but it would be interesant to shut off the hang on and call led buttons off cause it makes me sense it tooks much battery... dont you think so...?
I've noticed that the notification light for new emails and the like doesn't blink as frequently as the g1. Is there anyway to to reduce the time gap between blinks?
+1. You have to be staring at it otherwise you miss the blink.
lol +2 I catch myself stopping in my tracks and waiting a good 6 seconds to see if there's going to be a blink.
If you use the new CM build + Trackball SMS, the notification light will continue flashing every second until you activate the phone
The worst is when I "think" I see a blink in the corner of my eye and then I have to debate whether I should expend the energy to wake up my phone and check for a new message. Most of the time I hallucinate and think I saw a blink when really I didn't.

From what I gather from your post, is that this alpha build doesn't play nice with what is current built into the phone. Is this a color changing thing, or a frequency thing? Would it be more feasible to write a program that just changes the frequency of the blinking?
[App] TrackballFlashRate
Ok you can change the flash rate from 1-9seconds, no colour changes take place. As the Stock ROM Notification system does not issue any period/rate changes this should work without problems.
It will also load your setting on phone reboot.

It should work for any notification where the trackball flashes until acknowledged.

Sweet. Please add to CyanogenMod.
Thanks a bunch lilHermit.
Thanks a lot for this mod!
However, it seems to be a little unreliable as sometimes it just stops working.
Also, if I reboot it will always stop to work and I will have to kill both SU and the mod itself and then restart the app for it to come back to life.
Any plans on further improving this mod or making it more reliable? Would really love to use this as the default for notifications.
Using Cyanogen Beta 4.
I dont know if this is the right place to put this so move the thread willingly.
I was wondering if there is any way to get the Trackball Light notifications and the Trackball wake mod working in froyo. I know the source hasnt been released but maybe it is still possible... maybe
Patience my young grasshopper
Paul from Modaco says that he'll get right on it as soon as the source is released. He himself wants it quite badly (follow him on his Twitter if you want to know ASAP when it's released).

Then how do you enable them? We're you able to enable them? They don't work on my phone. Its back to the old white pulse every 5 seconds for everything.
hmm i have "Light" checked in google voice, ebuddy, and Gmail doesnt have an option in their app but i have "Pulse notification lights" enabled in the default menu.
Im guessing its up the app developer to select the color notification light.
Yep, really missing trackball wake.
As for the color notifications, they just seem to work here out of the box...
I dont think you need to open a new thread for this topic. Everyone waiting for it, cant you learn how to wait? Dont just ask for something, learn how to understand something. At least understand the situation, source is not release yet. So be patient!
DL screenmode from the app market and set it to screen lock off. Trackball wake up should work. Just found out about this yesterday lol

nice! just have to make sure you remember to turn the screen off when you're not using it...
I think trackball is much more useful. I got so used to it by now that its really annoying to use the unlock button at the top. Also its annoying that the Email light and the SMS light are both white....
Sitting by for further development i guess haha
Since HandcentSMS & ChompSMS no longer work - I've reverted back to 'SMS Popup' and the stock messaging app.
SMS Popup has 'LED colour' in the notification settings - so you can set to red, just like CM...

Umm ...
I bought LockBot Pro for Froyo for switching on with trackball, and it works great
(as long as you install or move it to internal memory)
The ChompSMS beta works great on Froyo too, and it makes the LED flash Green for me.

why? phone will sleep in 1 min anyway.. with or without screenlock..
never really understood who needs that locking feature.. doesnt the screen only respond to the fingers?
im using app called No lock. it removes that sliding locking AND enables trackballwake on froyo.. at least worked for me..

Handcent already releeased 3.0 that works with froyo. Been using it with no problems for a day now.
Most lock screen apps will allow trackball wake. Lock Bot works as well
There is an app on the market called no lock that let's you wake up your phone with trackball.
Hancent and ChompSMS both work now, and allow custom colors for your trackball alerts.
Google HAS enabeld the color trackball notif for the nexus one. See link below for use:
developer.android.com/intl/fr/reference/android/app/Notification. html
Now anny app can use those notifications, no need to be root. You can now just start having some fun!!!
I've noticed some of my trackballs notifications are different colors now but has anyone found a way to speed up the blinking?
When the G2 first came out, I saw owners asking if they could get the LED (showing power/charging status) working as a notification LED. Fair enough, I thought, I'm sure someone will get that working.
However, when I got my DZ, I found in the settings (under "Display"), a section on "Notification flash", subtitled "Flash LED light for notifications". Then under that section you can turn on or off "Missed Call", "SMS/MMS", "Email", etc. Mine are all ticked, but when I get an SMS the LED doesn't flash.
In the PDF manual, the section on Settings->Display doesn't mention anything about this.
Does this work for anyone else ?
EDIT - Mine does work after all ! It's the trackpad LED that flashes. See post #21 in this thread
the option in the setting reffers to the trackpad light doesn't it?

I didn't think so, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, nothing seems to flash, neither the trackpad nor the power LED.
Same here, all ticket, but nothing happens !!
It works here, i can remember pad glowing on/off slowly. Also when got mail, the green led is blinking iirc. I will try to observe this more now if it works in all cases...

I have no notification sound on new mail either. It does vibrate but nog sound.
All boxes are ticked (vibrate and sound) in the mail options...
U can use the LED for notifications when you install a program like sms pop up.
Standard the light notifications are set to use the track pad
Use the app LED me know , does exactly what you need it to do and more !!

Try the "LED me know" app from the Market, it's working great for me - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=851220
It works on desire Z in both modes normal and compatibility.
I find it strange I don't see "Touchpad" until I enable Compatibility mode, I was expecting to see more options in normal, less in compatibility, as the name suggests.
At first I thought my LED was not flashing when I got an SMS, but i've realise its the trackpad surrounding light that flashes. Theres a long delay between flashes which is probably why i didnt notice it at first.

Its faulty then, send it back pal. When you receive an sms, the 1st 'pulse' of the light is when you get your vibration, then every 10 seconds ish after that.
I have no problems with this either however is kind of weird.
When I get mail, the led that is located at the top of the telephone (the one that changes color when charging from red to green when is fully charged) flashes.
However if it is a sms or miss called the one that flashed is the trackpad.
Is this suppose to be like this?
I think it's the same for me. Also, from what I've noticed, the upper LED will flash indefinitely until the email notification is dismissed, while the trackpad ring for SMS will only flash for a few minutes, not until I actually read the SMS.
Don't remember what the notification is for missed calls, I'll have to test more. I'd like to have that ring flash whenever I have an unread notification, and keep doing so until I dismiss the notification... The way it's now, also using the upper LED, seems inconsistent.
I've enabled pulsing light in notifications but for some reason light flow us still not working.

maybe it needs root, some phones do. could also just be that it's not marshmallow optimized yet? are you rooted and if so, have you checked the "root" box in settings? mine wasn't working either and it's the straw that broke the proverbial back of my camel and caused me to give up on not rooting my phone and trying to go vanilla. I just knew that if i was having problems this early i wasn't going to be able to go long term without it.
Light Flow worked out of the box for me, I just installed the app... gave it permission to view my notifications and it worked.
Be sure pulse notification light is enabled in settings > sound & notifications.
What color light you trying to use? I noticed some of the choices in light flow don't work on my led. Try a different color maybe.

This is the most common reason I see for LF not working for people. Make sure you do this (as the app tells you to do).
Light manager works far better than light flow i have the paid version of both

Might not apply, but make sure to NOT follow the tutorial for Light Flow on the Nexus 6.
You still need to uncheck "Run in foreground" in the Persistent Icon menu.
Then under Device Settings and Root, ONLY check the following:
Root Mode
Show LED While Screen on (this might not need to be checked)
Nexus 5 force LED reset
I think that's it.

I had a back up of Light Flow from my Nexus 6 so i just left it the same, but the biggest change was the "LED Mixer" or whatever the setting was called in each notification. Removing that, and just selecting the color and blink rate fixed the problem for me.

Enabling the LED Mixer did break Light Flow, which is only caused if you follow the Nexus 6 tutorial. So if people are saying it works out of the box, then great.

Yup, it does. The only things you need to do are the ones it pops up and tells you about... which for me, was reminding me to give it access to see my notifications.
I've been using Light Flow since it was released, so I typically start fresh on each new device to report any issues before I import my notifications backup.
Edit: Well, and turn on the LED in Settings for the device.

I usually use the provided LED settings in ROMs since Light Flow doesn't give you LED options for every app (Tweet Caster for example).

Yeah, I am sure it doesn't support every single app in existence. I usually run into an unsupported app once a year or so and the dev always adds it very quickly upon request.
