Seems to be an old Quarx build but does not specify for which kind of defy (Defy green, Defy Red or Defy+) neither which kernel it uses.
I would suggest to wipe data, cache and dalvic-cache from recovery and try again.
If you upgraded from Froyo to CM9 GB version the problem is that you have tho flash the kernel too.
Please follow this post since it is updated and you will find further support.

thanks alot mate i tried what you said but sadly it didnt work i apprciate your help though

[Q] May I install a custom ROM over this firmware?

Hi folks
Yesterday I soft-bricked my Defy+
After a long and careful session of cursing every saint and patron I could think of, I managed to re-flash the whole thing ( mostly, thanks to this forum, so THANK YOU! )
Problem is, now I'm stuck with stock ROM, and from what I've heard since I cannot downgrade I can't install a custom ROM either
Before I proceed to try anyway and probably soft-brick again, can you tell me if there's anything I can do to remove my ****ty stock ROM?
I was using MIUI and it was totally awesome ( even if that's why I soft-bricked. ), so going back to MIUI would be perfect, trying CM would be pretty good as well ( but no CM9, I use my camera ), even MS2ginger which is basically semi stock would be fine, as long as I remove the stock.
My system version : 45.0.1320.MB526.O2.en.DE
Android Version : 2.3.6
Kernel version : 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e
Build number : 4.5.1-134_DFP-132
Thanks in advance!
Try this

Install cm72-111213.0943-NIGHTLY-Defy+ instead and install Camera.apk and overlay.omap.so from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20399252&postcount=14580

wipe data factory and cache partition and
install fresh Stock ROM for defy
then u know wht to do
@Leonardo
Thanks man, I'm going to try in the next days - I'm out for New year's even xD
Is this CM7, right? So Camera works, not like CM9.. If the battery not fully charging is the only problem I'm definitely going to install Cyan, Stock Rom just plainly sucks.
@Illumanati
uhm.. what do you mean? that's what I did to recover my soft bricked Defy, I already mount a Stock ROM, why should I wipe and re-install it?
Yes, i think the camera must work, in a red lense defy works replacing Camera.apk and overlay.omap.so, so i think in defy+ too!
PS: Has your defy+ a red lense??

looking at ms2ginger thread it seems pretty straight forward to install this rom.
just make sure you download the correct ms2ginger 2.1 file for defy+. wipe everything and then use nandroid restore method to restore system and data, and advanced restore to restore boot, devtree and recovery. reboot and you're done.
from what i've read, miui doesn't work with gb kernel. so unless some devs come up with new roms or nandroid backup that does, you might be out of luck for now.

Nightly still has battery issues on the Defy+ aint it?
But when I was on 2,3,4 miui worked, I still had GB kernel right? XD it doesn't work on 2.3.6, I tried, it goes bootloop, but unless I am misunderstanding something it's not strictly about the gb kernel

I wish I knew .___. it sucks to be stuck with Moto stock ( whoa, it almost rhymes )
Maybe flashing 2.3.4 Kernel from CM9 via CWM MIUI works!
I'm going to try to flash MS2ginger 2.1 over 2.3.6, and if it goes I'll try the 3.0 as well
wish me luck! I'll post everything will happen, so other ppl in my situation can benefit
p.s. after a lot of searching on chinese MIUI forum and stuff, and after consequential blood tears over the poorly translated english of Google translator, I can officially say latest MIUI releases run on 2.3.4 Kernel
So Froyo is NOT required, and 2.3.6 is NOT supported as we speak

Very good, MS2ginger 2.1 totally works even on 2.3.6, the firmware of doom xD
If anyone on the 3d answers me, I'm going to try to upgrade to 3.0

[Q] [q] cm9/ics/gapps - defy+ 2.3.6 kernal

[Q] hello sir,
Do own Defy+2.3.6 (ryt now using MS2Ginger 3 by walter79 ), want to use CM9/ICS, downloaded zip CM9-NIGHTLY-120112-Defy+.zip & CM9 kernel. kindly suggest proper installation procedure and info abt the ics gapps versions which one to use. i dont want to use other kernal rather than 2.3.6 can i flash CM9 on stock rom
waiting for ur humble replies ☻thanks in advance☻
God bless you All.
Why don't you want to use the Froyo kernel? I wouldn't use this nightly. You can't even phone with it! If you have BL6, flash the BL6-SBF with Froyo-kernel.
Don't use the flashlight until you flashed the CM7-kernel, you could burn it with the Chinese kernel of this SBF.
Then root the phone with the latest SuperOneClick and (after backup) follow my instructions here. Use the latest CM9-zip, ICS-Google-apps and the CM7-kernel(NOT the CM9-kernel) instead of the zips in that post. If you want to have the Motorola-Bootlogo back, also flash the attached Red_M_Logo.zip, or use my CM9-Bootlogo.zip. Flash the CM9-Music.zip if you want to use the new CM9 music app (it's very good, i can recommend it).
If you have BL7, i would wait until eppy makes a build for the Defy+ kernel.
thanks for your replies,
please let me know checking battery version ( bl5,bl6,bl7 ),my defy mfg. date is dec 2011 , details on battery HF5X, b052r984-1001, model L-L-L- DC111109.
and CM9 GB kernel is available so why not to use it, hope u clear my mind.

WHAT VERSION HAVE YOU FLASHED ?
I mean which build are you using with Defy+ ?
i am using stock 2.3.6 and i tried
stock/cm 7.2 nightly.
stock/ics latest builds
works well but no network on second booted rom doesnt get any network ( no EMIE )

Did you try using basebandswitcher? Just to search for a frequency similar to your stock baseband? I think you did because default ms2ginger baseband definitely isn't what you seem to be running on stock 2.3.6...
Oh, and btdubs I think Mister Ypsilon is right about using froyo kernel builds for CM9. Your nightly doesn't seem to be too stable.
*EDIT
Oh and veeranna don't forget, BL version (BL5/6/7) is not your battery version. It's the version of the bootloader, and it is very important when it comes to downgradeability.
search it up, I don't do a very good job of explaining bootloader stuff.
Its awesome but lil buggy
I did it! Installed Froyo SBF, rooted, 2nd init, then CM9 for Defy, CM7 kernel, slept at 5A.M :O and bingo there was a pretty stable ICS but without camera! After playing around with it for few hours.. Tested NFS Shift, Angry Birds and everything was smooth as butter except that there was no Camera due to which I restored it back using a full SBF flash and my Nandroid backup
Can be used if you don't need a camera..!
I have a Defy+ flashed with stock 2.3.6 SBF en.asia
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20097916&postcount=3
Check this it is working fine. Tested on my moto after a full fresh Defy+ 2.3.6 SBF flash.
There are more stable roms built by quarx and epsylon3 in the defy development thread. Camera works and camcorder works for some users. These devs are geniuses.

There are many variants of CM9 ROM however, all of them are not stable yet (They have their own bugs).
You may visit the following link with the easier tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100
However, first check your lens color... if it is RED then you may use the GB kernel CM9... if it is Green then use Froyo kernel CM9 as you Camera will not work if you flash your Green color lens with GB kernel ROM.

Try rebooting the phone if that helps..... if not then do a data/cache wipe from latest recovery and then reboot!!
make sure you have also flashed the kernel itself......

Yes, that is the problem. If you have a green lense defy flash froyo kernel, with red lense u can use anyone. Flash the kernel from recovery, the same way u flashed the rom.

Give more details like the SBF you are using (base kernel) whether it is froyo or GB. As ArielitoARG mentioned flashing Kernel should solve the prob. Also do a dalvik wipe

[Q] Need help for Multiboot on GB kernel

:Hey guys,
I'm in trouble with multiboot and tried some ways but failed. So I need your help!
My main system is MS2 2.3.4, BL6, GB kernel. And I want CM9 defyplus to be the 2nd system.
First I tried m11kkaa's multiboot v0.7 but couldn't launch CM9, it stunned with black screen. Then I found multiboot can't work on GB kernel after that. So I searched solution and found this View attachment multiboot_v0.5.5_fix.zip,it came from http://bbs.mfunz.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=408756, and could work on GB kernel. With this i could launch CM9 finally, but it came out another question, the encryption unsuccessful and couldn't go on.
After reading the changelog of m11kkaa's multiboot I thought maybe the v0.6.1 can work properly. So I tried to contact with the guy who did modification on it for help but failed.
I think the attachment maybe useful to m11kkaa for developing multiboot on gb kernel, but i cant reply his thread for i'm new.
Can someone help for letting m11kkaa know here maybe have the solution of multiboot with gb? I'm very thankful!
My defy plus is bl7.. So stock gb kernel.. And multiboot worked fine.. Just don't flash any kernel.. I didn't have any problem..

Actually i got touch with the guy from mfunz.com finally, and with his help i got a fixed v0.6.1, then i made it.
The only thing which different from my 1st try is when stunned as black screen i kept waiting, for about 3 or 5 Minutes the screen turned on at last. Then i got into desktop without encryption unsuccessful.
So maybe i should wait longer at the first try? maybe the fixed version is unnecessary?
Anyway, thanks for your reply. let me know the multiboot can work with gb kernel at least.
But i swear i saw m11kkaa'reply in his thread saying that it's not support for gb kernel.
And, what's mean of 'Greenbreadmod' in the changelog?
I used v0.6.1.. Not the fixed one.. I didn't have any problems.. Tried cm7 ms2ginger and cm9 on multiboot and all worked fine.. what image files are you using?? did you flash a kernel while installing ms2ginger??

Answer : How to custom Kernel ´Defy+ JB Quarx

Everything for testing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote this for maybe less confusion
Works with my Defy - red lense Bayer cam - on Defy+(gingerbread Kernel) Jelly Bean Quarx 24.8 Rom
I´ve
1. Flash test_2ndboot_6.10.zip from http://quarx2k.ru/ or my 2ndboot_06.10.zp from attached dropbox (search for 2ndInit recovery if you dont have and root your defy)
2. Boot into Recovery
3. Set 2ndboot as default
4. Go to tools/adb daemon and klick it and then reboot
If you want to go back to stock gb kernel flash stock kernel -like gb-234-451-134-signed.zip from dopbox i´ve attached
Remember everything is for Test the custom kernel
OT - Multiboot is ok with CM7 but akku is always 100%
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4fg71wuehyibzzx/oanepGgaRR
BIGNOTE: Green lens users who flashed redlens builds please dont try using flash, you will end up burning it like me and many others
Big thanks to our great DEV´s Quarx as porter :good: , Walter for fixing :good: and MS2 Dev czechop who made this possibile :good:
Great works men !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Defy red lens with defy + build gb kernel
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
I have done it in such manner
1. Prepared on SD card:
- CM10 ROM 24/09 for MB526,
- gapps for JB
- Qkernel 2ndboot_06.10.zip (with improved 2ndboot.ko)
2. Done factory reset and viped caches
3. Installed CM10 and gapps in normal manner
4. Flashed Qkernel
5. Went to bootmenu and choosed 2nd-boot (there was no chance to set it as default... i think, because phone immediately reboots)
And achieved "half success". All is working but with extremely lags... Was said so after first bootup system suppose to be laggy and needs to wait some time on sleep state with WiFi switched off. I was waiting whole night.
So now I want to know, if my procedure is right.
Nobody mentions gapps during instali of ROM - i suppose it's so trivial so nobody count it on...
Another problem - is there need of factory reset or cache wipe?
After installing Qkernel i went to boot menu to set 2nd-boot as default, but when i choose 2nd-boot phone reboots and I don't know what now with this setting up deafult 2nd-boot...
I am trying to fond any reason of system lagginess. Maybe something was done wrong. What's your opinion? To change ROM build? Or something else...

And no Deep-Sleep in about 12 hours
Anyone else with this problems?
---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:49 AM ----------
Now Deep-Sleep is ok. Dont know why .... But ... Quarx said in the xda-developer thread,
that with no usb-cable and with wifi disabled the defy should go 10-15 sec. in deep-sleep.
Before i have had usb-cable on or wifi enabled. Maybe that has been the reason.
After 3 hours 14 % battery drain ... not good ...
Quarx edited a new Rom today.
But after getting more and more slow reactions from the defy+ i flashed the 24.09 version.
All tips didn't really work in a good way.
And I need my defy+ functionabel this days.
But next time again ...
And today again a new kernel for update as *.zip ...
quarx2k.ru/cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+)/update_for_11.10_v2.zip
13.10 Kernel update:fix wifi tether(reboot), reduce battery drain, compiled with linaro 4.5, fix charge only mode, cleanup unused drivers.
