my phone connects to any unencrypted open network from a router or my pc. but whenever I encrypt the network by wep and put a key on it. it fails to connect instead keeps showing the disappearing arrows that signify the phone is trying to connect how do I fix this?
turn off wpa security on your router or flash a rom which can handle it
Hey thanks for replying i have also tried t network it with my pc which does not have that security just the network key. Can you name a rom that can handle it? Even the original rom i had couldn handle it.

sorry, i don't understand very well what you just said. use your pc to adjust your router's security settings.
i don't know which - if any - roms can handle wpa security, but i spent months trying to work out the problem, then i turned wpa off and it now works. i have not bothered to turn it back on since, so i don't know if any roms work with it
Just don't use an auto-generated key but a WPA SHARED KEY (the option where you define your own wirless network password). Pay attention that you enter this password exactly as you did in the router! I tried plenty of ROMs before I was gone with a shipped version again and never had a problem with this settings! BTW: my router is a LINKSYS54GS.
Maybe it helps in future if people post their router model? At least we could locate which routers are the most common trouble makers for the WIZ ...

i read about belkins being a problem before i turned wpa off
mine is an inventel and came with the orange internet connection
hmmm the thing is i connect it with my pc since i dont have a wireless router, i dont use the infrastructure type of networking, i use the ad hoc type, but even when i took it to my friends place where he had a router and gave me the key it stil wouldnt work, and i dont want other people sneaking in on my internet, so theres no way to make a wep encrypted network work on the o2? and i put in my own key very carefully as a precaution
im surprised to find that other people have this problem as well
you'll have to read the networking forum in the general area. i read every threads first post until i found a couple which looked like they might help.
I have this problem whit my milestone 2:
when IConnect it to a working wi-fi it have no real connection.
it's new, I bought it 2 days ago.
I must to send it back for a sostitution or there is a soft way to fix this problem?
please help me!
I herd of wlan issues which some MS have. You probably have to go back to a störe and exchange ur device for another one.

ok, so the problem is an hardware problem? not a software one? I try a lot of wifi and I saw that only whit wpa-psk it's bugged (at my home I have that one...).
is there any method to understand if is an hardware problem? becouse I have buy it on expansys, and I prefer to not change the device if the new one will have the same problem.
thank you a lot!
skaburn, I have had an issue when using the router WPS, PIN or push to connect method as well. The connection was successful but no data flow so I had to manually connect and use the WPAx phrase and all was good ...
where can I entere my wpa phrase?

1. Navigate to: Settings->Wireless & Network Settings->Wi-Fi Settings
2. If you have the network SSID remembered then press and hold the entry until the popup menu appears and press forget network.
3. Press add network and enter the network SSID and press the security combobox and select the correct encryption/authorisation protocol.
4. Enter the password/passphrase and press save.
One other issue I remember was that my wifi router/cable model had the WiFi channel set to auto and it supported 13 channels. The Milestone 2 supports 1 to 11 channels so I manually set them both to 11 (can be any clear channel) just incase there was a problem with the auto-negotiation between the router and the phone.
Ok, thanks a lot, when i try I will share my result.
(Sorry for bad English)

edit:
thank you a lot! whit manual add of wifi, it doesn't work too
but whit the second way the problem is seems to be fixed!
I don't understand only one thing, i had to change the channel of peer to peer connection on 11, but the peer to peer connection is for a router? I thought that it is for a direct connection whit another device..
thank you again..
edit2: -.- connection failed! data still not pass on wifi! it seems to work, but after 5 minutes it doesn't send no more data....
Seems to be a common problem, lots of complaints on the Motorola Forums aswell... I have the same problem.
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/41656
@shellite:
yes, I saw but there is no way to fix? I found on motorola support only problem report, not fix..
To my knowledge, after much scrounging, no fix exists and Motorola will not acknowledge that there is an issue.

you need a wlantest.apk of FW you are using
Have you ever used this network with another device before? And worked it? This may be that problem.. WiFi may be protected by MAC filter. Lets say if it IS protected with this filter, you have to configure your WiFi router and add MAC adress of your phone into it. If it isn't, try another ROM or try to do something with your router.
dont have any idea about MC filter but other phones (nokia 5800,95) & also samsung wave of worth Rs.7500/- is also working with it ,my lapy is also works with it plz guys help me............. http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

this is a problem with the way your router gives ip to device
go in your router settings and reset all
then imput a new pass key
then it will work
i had problem with my ps3 haveing the same ip as my phone so when boath where online my phone no work online
a simple router reset to default and a new pass key fixed all problems
hey its my college wifi i can't edit it... is their some other way??????
If it is with what the craigboro guy said, you could use a laptop or another android device to scan the network (check the market, net scan or something) to scan the IP addresses on the network and then in advanced settings give your phone an IP that isn't being used, not ideal but hey, you're asking in the G3 section, not the g5 section, so you are bound to get general answers

8) Can't connect to my wireless network.
- Tap and hold the SSID of the network and select Forget
13) How can I make GPS work better (be more fast and precise)?
- Make a backup of your /etc/gps.conf (use a file manager to rename or copy to another place)
- Visit this thread
- Click in the link "XDA Members Click Here" at the final of the post, and search for the correct .zip for your country
- Copy the .zip to your SD Card and reboot in Bootmenu, then flash the zip via Custom Recovery

For me, Wifi and GPS don't seem to be giving problems. But again, thanks for bringing in the useful information.
not working in Brazil with Cm7 rom ported from defy
On my UK 2.2.2 android there is no /system/etc/gps.conf file. Maybe this GPS fix is only for HTC phones.
In MIUI, I have the file in
/system/etc/gps.conf
and
/etc/gps.conf

Wifi problems with 802.11 N + PEAP Authentication
Hi folks!
Here in my university we have a Network called Eduroam (www.eduroam.org , probably you've already heard about it).
The Hotspots are N capable, so my phone, if connected, shows a speed of 65 Mbps. For the authentication, we use MSCHAP v2. So far, so good...
Now to the things I experienced: @ home, where I use a 802.11g network, everything seems to be ok.
Here in the university it's not. Sometimes it needs a really long time to connect to the network, and sometimes it drops the connection just shortly after. Switching off and on again speeds up the process a lot.
But now to the worst part: Often, the connection is shown as established ('Connected'), but in reality there is no connection: No mail connection, no HTTP connection, ping doesn't go through... nothing. Even it shows it is still connected.
Now I am not sure if this issue is caused by the autentication or the N Network , but I can say two things for sure:
1. My laptop, when connected to the same network with the same parameters works fine.
2. It has been working fine up to the transition from Android 2.3.5 to 2.3.7.
I'm running cm7-20111021-NIGHTLY-Milestone2-ICS-pre_stable-v1.5 on a A953, but was also experiencing those issues on builds before that one.
I'd have loved to post this into the developement thread, because I have already seen someone describing a simmilar issue (less detailed unfortunately), but I can't due to the 10 posts minimum rule.
Best regards and thanks for that great port, Endless !

Probably you can try switching off the N network from your phone. Force it to connect through G.
This post might help you.

It basically disables n network from Milestone 2
You can give it a shot.
I delete all my wifi connections, reboot the cell and work all good..

Hi everyone,
yesterday I was it my friend and tried to connect to his access point. He has b/g AP with WPA2 password protection & DHCP enabled. But when I tried to connect it kicked me off in authetication state and tried to connect again - but without success. I tried to disable and enable wifi, deleting saved connection, but nothing of this helped me.
I'm using CM7 - does anyone have similiar or same problem - connecting to WPA2-PSK wifi? I'm using WPA at home and it works ok - I just want know if it is global problem with CM7 on Milestone 2 or just me (or just this AP) and what solutions can i try.
Thanks for suggestions.
I know it is not here but my phone is locked in airplane mode!

It always happens to me on my uncle's house. His wifi is WPA2 and has such a BIG password, but when I try to connect the phone acts as if nothing happened...
I think it's a global problem with Milestone 2, because it didn't work in any Rom, Froyo/CM7/GB/MIUI.

Dear All,
Is there any application, any scripting and anything through which i get get into the password protect WIFI or i can crack into the WIFI which is password protected..?
You can use penetrate pro or router keygen for many networks but we can't actually crack, only a computer can.
