Beta Testing is Now Open to EVERYONE - Kindle Fire General

If you go to my website (in signature) you can now access beta testing! I have opened it as my weebly pro account expired and it was expensive :/. So you can head over there and get v1.2 BETA for your kindle! Under members, no testers exist as everyone can be a tester and report bugs and/or issues they have. Also, I have a question: Should I include kernel 3.0 in the next release of my rom? I'm thinking of making 2 builds, 1 with 3.0 Kernel, and 1 with the current kernel. I say this because the current kernel, yes has no hardware acceleration; but kernel 3.0 has A LOT more bugs. Please post your opinion here and I will be sure to consider! Thank you for all of my donors who got me where I am. Donations are appreciated as I can pump builds for devices faster, especially as now I support FOUR devices.
Thanks again,
~ BiteBlaze via XDA Developers

I would suggest going with your two build idea since you have a great opportunity to be on the ground floor of this new kernel as it is a turning point in Kindle Fire roms. Also, hi, lol, sorry I went dark for awhile there, got crazy busy in classes and I wasn't able to do much more than post on the forums, my apologies.

The two versions idea sounds good, it'll be fun to try out

I second the 2 kernels idea.
Btw what is the change log for 1.2? I tried looking but couldn't find it. Is it significantly better than 1.1 or just marginally? I am on 1.1 and having this urge to beta test 1.2 but 1.1 has been so good so far and don't wish to leave this one
To flash or not to flash?

Changelog (beta does not have all of this yet): New features on v1.2
1. New Soft Keys (stock soft keys are now blue and reflective)
2. New Lockscreen color (has a blue glow)
3. Flashable Mods (for soft keys and other things)
4. Updated Apps
5. Integrated Google Apps (single flash rom!)
6. Better CPU app
7. Graphic Improvements
8. Bug Fixes
9. Modified build.prop
10. Few other minor things
ETA: now - 4/17
v1.2 is going to be groundbreaking in the progress of ReloadedROMâ„¢
Cheers.

yes try kernel 3.0.
if nothing else it will be fun testing.
thanks
steve

I would be happy to test your builds I ran the first two you put out They seemed fine to me although I am a little leary on kernel 3.0 as it is still pretty buggy closer but buggy nontheless. Im not knocking hashcode hes doing an awsome job with his kernel development and will probably change the kindle as we know it exspecially related to hwa issues of cm9. Anyway wouldnt mind doing a flash or two what you have done has been stable so far

Running smooth on 1.2, looks like kernel might have some progress soon, then maybe another beta with the new 3.0?

Hey guys.
I've been using ics on my kindle for a few months now. And the only thing missing to improve on it is hardware acceleration.
Would the new kernel fix it? Is it the same one that hashcode is working on?
Thanks!

yes & yes

I'm far from being an authority on this matter, as I am NEW to the Kindle Fire and flashing ROM's, but I like the idea of offering two builds with the different Kernels.
The best way to get a stable Kernel is to have as many people as possible using it IMHO, so this would be a good way since you have one of the more popular CM9 ROM's out there.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you for ur efforts Biteblaze. When do u expect the ROM based on the new kernel?

Totally appreciate the effort on this rom - definitely my fav.
Has anyone tired 1.2 with hashcode's 3.0 kernel yet?

Is there a way to go back to the grey soft keys in v1.2?
And great work! First time for me that Google Play downloaded my v1.1 apps automatically upon first boot.

BiteBlaze! Awesome work on the KF! just started mucking around with my second KF and your rom is by far the best one I have loaded to date! 2 builds also sounds like a great idea. hopefully it won't turn into a real mess for you to support though.
Keep up the great work and I sent you a donation as well!
Seriously great work here!
THANKS!

[Q] Rom choice, help!

I am due to receive my device in the coming days and I already know the ins-and -outs of the flashing process.
What I can't decide on is whether I should flash the VegaComb 3.2 build 8.1 rom which is honeycomb (what I originally wanted) or whether to flash the Corvus 5 rom with honeycomb theme which allows me to overclock and use as a USB host device.
Anyone willing to help? as of yet I haven't had a chance to try either of these roms personally,
many thanks
Im using vegacomb love its smoothness and layout but its really self preference you have to decide what you wil use the vega for then look at wat rom will suit your needs either way welcome
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thanks, wondered whether vegacomb was fast enough for intensive use
Mind you I could flash both and keep a nandroid backup of each, thanks for the help
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Vegacomb is more than fast enough far everyday use. I am sure the usb host will be added in future updates. You could always get a dock if the host mode is a must. I will never go back to a froyo based rom. Froyo is for phones and it shows!!
For me Vegacomb is a must for the vega. Hats off to TeamNewCo, they have done a fantastic job.
Take it easy.
Hi there, I'm a long time Lurker on these forums but just thought I would put my two pennethworth in! I just got my Vega on Wednesday and after some messing about/research I followed a YouTube vid and flashed to Vegacomb and all I can say is WOW. It does so much more than the stock, the games work well and the films I've watched at work have been spot on. It also looks very smooth and has upset some of the Apple fanboys who think they own the rights to this stuff (NOT!). No complaints from me with this lot.
Also a big thanks to all those who are putting so much into developing it!

New to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 / What ROM do you recommend?

I just purchased the Galaxy Tab and want to get it rooted with a custom ROM. I'm not new to this, just new to tablets. Does anyone recommend any certain ROM? And if so, what's good/better about it? I don't mind the stock look but I know it can get faster and smoother. If you also wouldn't mind sharing your setups and screenshots that would be helpful.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
tried several roms and my immediate impression is that your actual Tablet model dictates how much choice you have -- the wifi only model has more options available but doesn't enable the 3G or 4G functionality necessary for those Tablets.
HC3.1 is your key: latest stock firmware is KI2 with KI1 overlap (KI1 pda/csc, KI2 modem) check either sammobile or use Check Fus 2.0 -- most developers are just in the process of porting their roms from the older KME structure and/or just getting a Tablet and determining their time commitment to develop a rom for the Tablet as well as their existing phone.
I suspect that a month from now the landscape will be a lot clearer.
Again, custom kernels are restricted to the one from Pershoot (again, check and use the 7500 or 7510 variant as appropriate) as the source from KI1 and KI2 is still so new.
The 10.1 is newly released in several markets: seems the development of programs is still at an early and vibrant stage.

I prefer rooted stock with pershoots kernel. In all its touchwiz glory
try overcome series. It is good and fast.
I tried some ROM´s as well and for me the best allrounder was Paris V5 especially a good support in thread.
Foreword to the developers - I think you do a fantastic work, given the circumstances, with no source code available - but I want to be sincere and share my own experience.
After trying ALL available ROM's (first time a month ago and this week for the second time) I concluded that the rooted stock TW (KME) is the best one. I know it doesn't have all the customization and tweaks found on other ROM's (which are of personal taste), but is by far the most stable and smooth ROM you can have on your GT7510.
The current ROM's have many bugs (you can see how frequently they are updated) and they really don't add much performance, if at all.
FC's, color problems, freezing, reboots and lags are some of the problems I experienced with all custom ROM's. The stock ROM is a product that passed a far stricter QA process, so it will certainly have less bugs like these.
I am sure many users in this forum will disagree with me, but this is my real experience.
And, just to be clear - YES! I love my GT7510! It is one of the best tablets today, if not the best!

Why is there no source code? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of Android?

There's only 4 custom ROMs, and only 2 are regularly updated. There's also an "extreme" stock ROM. I think you could try all three in about a week, and come up with your own opinion.
Welcome.
I've got paris v.4 (now v.5), and it's great.

Google didn't release the source code for Honeycomb because they didn't want it ported to smartphones.
Now, with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich, we expect the release of the source code, because this is the convergence version between smartphones and tablets.
And this is good news, because yesterday one Italian operator confirmed that the GT 10.1 will receive this upgrade.
And then we will really see how wonderfully capable are the developers in this forum.
In paris V5 all day. +1 added to everyone that recommended it already.
I really like In Paris. I am currently on Bindroid, also fast and smooth and I love the themed status bar.

Good feedback here but neglects the other side of the story that the other custom rom are not just about customizations or themes i have tangible benefits in responsiveness and video playback, connectivity to adhoc networks etc so as commented it does not take long to try these out for yourself

While I agree with corvus, not all of us have a ton of time to flash a ****load of ROMs. I love to play with my Xoom, but I also have a life (work, school, cat, girlfriend. and the last two get jealous if i play with my xoom more than them). But anyway. If you wanna choose a good ROM, read their respective forums. I can tell you the two oldest (read:most time invested) dev's here for the Xoom are Tiamat (TeamEOS) and Team Rogue. From what I've learned in my time at this forum (Ive had my Xoom since they came out), they seem to have the most experience with Xoom-specific problems. I'm presonally on Steady's CM9 Kang. It's important to note that he's now the official maintainer for the Xoom branch of CM9. TeamEOS has done great work, and it should be fun to play around with their Cornerstone builds. I haven't messed with them, so I can't speak to its efficacy.
I've also noticed that since the release of the Galaxy Nexus, the ROM scene here has seen a large growth as of late. I can't speak to the quality of these "bleed-thru" ROMs, but I'm sure they're fine. Seems kinda reverse-engineered to work on our Xooms though. I'm no expert!
TLDR: Try CM9! It should have a bunch of mods and go-fast pretties. If you don't like it, try out TeamEOS offerings. Donate to whichever you find suits your needs best.
Another 'best of'...
It all depends on what you want. If its glitz with additional functionality - team eos or cm9 kang.
I personally use Razorblades AOSP build. Its straightforward - no glitches - overclockable if you desire, and found it had no visual glitches or funky sleep issues. No glitz - but I want a ROM that provides a stockish experience with additional features that all come together well.
Bugless Beast is fantastic too. I just prefer a more stockish tablet experience.
I used CM9 the day it came out but recently switched to CNA. I vote CNA for sure, very reliable and customizable.

I'm happy as can be with EOS wingray nightlies...I'm on build #84 and it's super stable and functional. I oc to 1.6 ghz without a glitch. I've played with Cornerstone, but actually prefer plain EOS ICS and use Overskreen and Stickit for that same multitasking experience...just less buggy and demanding.
As an developer I prefer Team Rouges (unofficial) CM9 Release.
You have ADB in the developer settings and many more handy options.
Be careful on the WIFi-only (Wingray) Release. Since 15/03 The ROM crashes when you don't have a sd-card in. This is a serious problem. But the ROM is great!!!
Edit
It crashes every time when the tablet goes into standby mode AND no SD-card is in.
Eos is the bestest packing the most winz. I'm not biased or anything. Really.
I have EOS, CM9 and AOKP. I found the best is AOKP, currently running AOKP Milestone 4. If you are interested go to http://www.forum.aokp.co

If u truly want the best rom out there for thr xoom go with either the 1.0.0 from EOS or the EOS nightlies hands down
I know my name doesn't carry much clout in here, but having gone through EOS 1.0.0 / Unofficial CM9 / Codename Android 1.5.5 in the past month I really like the newest Codename Android.
Mostly waiting for there to be an official CM9 release. Then I'll jump ship to that.
Of course I run all my roms with Team Tiamats AOSP 3.0.5 kernel (w/ GPU OC)
My Xoom runs beautifully.
I have wifi only xoom and have used team eos with overclocked gpu. Its very stable no only had 2 crash's since i'v had it and that was the browser so would not put it down to the firmware at all all the hardware is supported fine and works well. I think eos is clean and tidy and with dev tools zips you'll have alot to play with.
i've testet all roms out there...
the best release would be eos with trebuchet from cm9,
or rouges cm9 with tiamat kernel...
I also just can from EOS 1.0 to Codename Android 1.5.5 and like it a lot. Both are great roms, but I just like the customization of Codename a little better.

Love the bugless beast rom. I've tried most of the others and came back to bugless because it is so reliable. And the USB extension is working without an app. Concerning the bugless nightly downloads, all you have to do is stroll down until you see wingray downloads and click-on.

I have this phone back in my hands yet again, got my mum a new phone since she hates Android. I may or may not decide to continue this series, I probably will since I'm going to start doing so on the Moto G. If there is anyone left with this phone at all that would like to see a ROM review or a ROM in action, leave a reply on the thread and I'll see what I can do. Happy watching!
-Nov. 7 2015 update-
What I'm going to do instead of like my previous recordings, I'm going to flash a ROM and use it for one week with casual use, then try and upload it the following Sunday/Monday. It might not be on a weekly basis, but I will post whenever I have a new video up. I also don't know how much I will use it on a daily basis since it's not my primary phone, but I will try to do light web browsing, occasional light gaming, and social media while also tweaking some settings and customizing it depending on the features of the rom.

I loved Slim's roms. I've tested some on the SGS and we had only one once on the Vision but it was good!
Would love to have SlimKat on Vision... Omni ROM look promising too but the promises of the new cyankat are impressive!
Because I am testing out demkantor's build of TWRP recovery, I will not have a video up just yet because of a bug I stumbled upon. I will however turn this from a Friday-only, I guess mini-series is the best way to explain it, into probably twice a week or so. I'll have either CyanKat or Flinny's CM11 up around Monday/Tuesday.
*Edit*
Since the person behind CyanKat is working on an update, I'm gonna postpone my video for that and focus on some other Sense and MIUI roms until it's updated. Once it is, I'll get a video on it up for you guys.
Aw come on, there's plenty of ROMs that work with my 90% working twrp, there's always my 90% working cyanmobile ROM

hope to see some new videos soon!
PS, added your great work above the ROM list FOUND HERE

New video coming up today/tomorrow after I get some rest since I just got off night shift. So, yeah. xD
I might revive this since I've been contemplating doing it with the Moto G as well, I edited the first post. Why not do both in case there are people out there still with the phone?

I can try to build it. I don't have a HDX 8.9, I have an HD 2, so I can't test it. And I'm awful at building ROMS :silly: but I can try, and I know how.

Just an observation regarding my experience with my (7") HDX, to date. And I'm all for a CM or AOSP custom ROM. Like some other folks, I got the Kindle Hdx to have a good hardware platform at a good price - I can live without an Amazon OS!
I'm not a developer, just a tinkerer -- 'tho I've had a fair amount of experience playing with various ROMs -- on Motorola devices and now on my new Kindle HDX -- with a BIG THANKS to HashCode for his ongoing work with SafeStrap!
My current "ROM of choice" -- and the one that works best (and most stable) for me is Cpasjuste's aosp-4.2.2-thor-0 (ver. 0) first published in the HDX Android Development forum on January 12th. (Note: ]NOT his 4.2.2-1 published Jan. 24)
BTW: Another BIG THANKS to Cpasjuste for all his work, too! and thanks to all contributors!
I have tried all the thor-gapps roms available to date -- but the AOSP 4.2.2-0 works best for me. PS: I only use Kindle reader and that works on all roms if you use the older version that LinearEquation links to in different forums. If you use a lot of Amazon services -- well that's what the Amazon OS is for!
PS: for the few users who have commented on Google Maps not rendering properly on any of the Amazon based or thor-gapps roms -- it works perfectly on the aosp 4.2.2-0 rom that I mention above.

So is there any downside? Random crashes? Reboots? Anything?
@Mineturtle I'd be happy to test ish for you. What do u need?
Cpasjuste's AOSP ROM for thor has differing issues by release. Release 0 has rendering issues in which almost all games, youtube, and music were unbearable to use/broken. Release 1 has some rendering issues still, but youtube and music work. However, release 1 also has the quirk that no system dialog boxes actually render on screen. You can touch them, but you can't see them. It's weird and kind of frustrating, but do-able.

Hi guys,
I come to request your help to get CyanogenMod 10.1 to work on the HDX 8.9.
Reading the cyanogen wiki, I get a booting ROM with logcat but no more (I get the pretty cyanogen logo sometimes ...)
I hope some of you can help with their knowledges in order to get a working CM on our beautiful tablet
I attached the current logcat, and you can find a git repo with device files here : https://github.com/ptiwee/android_device_amazon_apollo
There is for sure huge mistakes/leaks, so don't hesitate to help.
Thanks

Looking at the logs it seems your primary problem is with the opengles drivers/libraries as it can't init opengles.

There is a thread about a bounty to unlock the boot loader. I think that's our best course of action. An unlocked boot loader gives us so many options. The bounty is for the 7 inch HDX but the hardware is almost identical I would be surprised if it didn't work for both. If we get the bounty high enough we could recruit some low level programmers to our cause.
This is my 69th post... hehe... I'm such a little kid at heart

The bootloader is locked down pretty tightly. I do not think it'll ever be unlocked.
Root is possible on previous updates and may be possible soon on 14.3.2.2
But that's probably all we'll get

Would work on safe strap if we ever get root. My 16 gig is full as it is though... safe strap made the available memory show too small
