Cant Get into Recovery (Just Black Screen..) - Nexus S General

Hello, I flashed my Nexus S since I had it and so far I didnt have any Problems
Today I wanted to try out a new ROM cause since I flashed the last Kernel
I got Random Reboots etc..
But now I cant get into Recovery - It just goes to a black screen, forever..
I flashed a new Recovery via ROM MANGER - Didnt change...
Also I flashed Recovery via ADB - Didnt change
My Rom works Okay, i get Random Reboots and Freezes,
Some APPS generally Dont work like Youtube and other Video Players (worked well before Kernel Flash)
and I also can't download anything from the Market (Download error...)
What should i do now? HELP
(sry for bad grammar)

Sounds like your backlight doesnt light up in recovery mode. Thats a common problem with the new stock recovery. The recovery you flashed seems to be not sticking and may be overwritten by the stock one. The reboots and app problems seem to be caused by the kernel. There are some problems with bigmen and video apps. Please give more information about what you flashed. Also, check PM.

ok, i somehow fixed it.
I wiped data/cache via fastboot and then intstalled another Recovery with Rom mangager - everything works fine now.
thread can be closed - thx

Okay, then pls ignore my pm ;-)

Same for me 1 years ago. I fixed li ke u...

Nexus One "continuously reboots to "X" screen."

Hi everybody!
I'm trying to buy a used Nexus One, good price, but the owner claims that the phone "continuously reboots to "X" screen." but that IT can be fixed flashing the rom.
Is it true?
I'm reading on the internet that having the nexus one loop rebooting is a somehow common problem, and people got it fixed flashing the rom, or by moving some shifted pins on the battery. Do you guys think it's something reparable? Everybody that had this issue solved it? Or I risk that the phone is actually broken, and I might be buying a phone that I will not be able to use?
Thanks!
fastboot
just check for fastboot. the rest is easy cheeze.
how much is a good deal ?
unlocked $300 (cad)
What should I check? Instruct me plz, I never had a nexus one or even a Droid phone before ... (coming from 2 years old HTC cruise, with WM 6.5 with an XDA rom ....)
If I meet the guy, how to I check that hes not selling me a bricked nexus lol ?
Installing a new rom will fix it

are you 100% ?
I dont mind working on it, I just want to make sure that it is reparable via software/roms.
ppl plz tell yours, im just about calling this guy, really dont wanna waste $300
what is its restarts so much, that I cant flash the rom or something? there's no way that that could be the case, right?
sold ... goddamit lol But I'll get one one way or another
I was having this happen to me a lot. I moved in to a new place with no cable or internet yet, so my N1 was under extremely heavy use. And when it was warm, it would get both the touch screen problem and the random reboots.
I was using pershoots 2.35 Kernal. I went back to the stock kernal and the phone has since been running a lot cooler. Zero reboots, touch screen responds correctly. I take the stock kernal stability over an OC kernal any day.
It's a kernel issue that can most likely be fixed by flashing a new
ROM/Kernel, however there is always a small chance that it is triggered by faulty hardware.
My Nexus had this Problem Was unfixable by software. Hardware defect. I wouldn't buy.
Still waiting for my swap unit
i had a friend with a similar problem. He rooted the phone with the 1-click root app from the market, he then installed ROM manager from the market and try to flash Cyanogen mod ROM, afterward the phone went black. The only thing happen to the phone now is the X screen and its keep boot loop. I tried went to fastboot, works fine, then I tried to go to Recovery but it restart right afterward!!!
Now how am I suppose to wipe, or flash new rom without getting into the recovery? I got to fastboot and plugged in the USB cable and tried to ran terminal but it was unsucessful. I tried to copy some new files to the phone via adb command but keep getting the error "BootMagic failed".
Any help?

Even though solved, something to keep in mind: Its probably a ROM (or kernel issue as they said), but I had a revolving X due to a bad battery too.
it can be solved

[Q] Problems with GT540 roms

Hello, I recently have bought gt540. Everything was fine, but then I thought about upgrading android. I upgraded it and the problems started. With Andriod 2.1 my started to have various programs' crashes, so I installed france orange rom v20c for fastboot, flashed recovery and etc. Now the thing is my phone has crashes on custom roms too. even on Utopia and full froyo rom by MikeGapinski. Sometimes my phone don't even boot up at all, then ai took of the battery and turn it on once again. Sometimes when it boots up there is no crashes but there s some apps , too. For example sometimes market dissapperas. What can cause this problem? I know it can be because of kernel. I want to hear possible ways to solve this problem. Maybe it would help if I install stock 1.6 rom via KDZ updater and then install custom rom? And one more thing it won't boot up with v20c (or v20b) it stucks at android screen.
Thank you all in advance.
You cant go back to 1.6 now.....don't try to you will brick your cell.

I turned phone i booted up, everything looks works, expect, the market sometimes crashes ( because it loads up very slowly) and other thing programs won't install i tried Angry birds, and some other games ( which don't require for multi-touch) an i tried install some apps (quick settings, google maps) and they won't install, too. Although programs and games were downloaded successfully. Any ideas? After unsuccessful installing it says that package is wrong.

did you do a factory reset ?
After factory I got to the starting point, it hardly boot ups, if boot ups there are crashes. Could this be caused by that my phone as I suspect was not from baltic region and i installed update for Lithuania's location?
hmm that does no matter i live in Asia and i used the European version
I knew that it doesn't matter (on lg p500) but I thought:'Maybe there is a difference on gt540' So what could it be? Could this be because of bad fastboot.exe? I really don't know if the fastboot.exe witch i have is good ( it does the job, but maybe there are bugs in it)
I tried install Synergy rom (for old recovery) it started fine but it says it can't find xbin/cksum, this is the only rom which installs from recovery normally ( others jus t takes 5s... this one is copying files normally) So can anyone provide me rom for old recovery ? or maybe new fastboot.exe would be fine, too.
P.S.now i'm using CWM recovery v2.5.1.8

But not all of roms I've tried installed correctly, some of them installs in 5-10s, others won't install, because there is some kind of error and how i end up with recovery saying : aborted.

It didn't work. I installed v20c france (orange) it seems to work, but sometimes it could be not stable (for example crash or rebooting). Maybe this related to cpu? Maybe it is overheating or smoething?
I think its not a problem with the cpu. The cpu runs with stock configs.
Try to flash the 2.1 + fastboot and then flash a 2.3 rom.

I mananged to install swift droid 2.3 from 2.1 (stock france orange rom) And there are some problems. I go to the market pick up game, it starts downloading it, after it finishes downloading, I get error :'downlaoding was unsuccessful, please try again'. I somehow installed Ninja chicken, and after all tuts in the game, you should be transferred and play, but that doesn't happen, I get that game turned off by itself. So what the problem? Is it really not cpu? Maybe something with cache?
hmmm ok er wipe data cache and try again?
I'm getting error abou downlaoding progrms... dunno why. Does my phone really don't support angry birds ?
EDIT: I am able to paly ninja chicken. Mostly this error is on the apps whick are larger than 8MB or something.

[Q] Wiping didn't work, messed up restore - now can't boot into TWRP

First time flashing CM, and I may have messed up.
I rooted, installed TWRP, everything went perfect. I made a backup, and then tried to do a factory wipe. The wipe ended with the messages "unable to mount /system", "... /cache" and another one. I still tried to flash, and it just immediately got stuck, nothing happened. I rebooted, and everything worked fine. It was the Samsung stock image and all my apps were still there. I'm assuming it just didn't wipe at all.
I then went full retard mode, and tried to do a restore. I wanted to be sure my phone wouldn't fail on me in the recent future because some random stuff may have been partially wiped or something. Feel free to tell me I have the IQ of a chimp.
This completely messed things up, as it just got stuck at "Restoring System...". Eventually I restarted it with the power button. Now it can't boot normally, it can't boot into recovery mode, which just leaves download mode.
Any way I can fix this and subsequently install CM properly? I'm using TWRP 2.6.3.0. I've been told it's recommended to use 2.5, as the other version may have some issues (including not being able to recognize partitions). Only download mode still seems to work, so maybe there's a way to flash my phone back into the living world?
Versions:
Team Win Recovery Project 2.6.3.0
CyanogenMod 10.1.3 (RC2 jfltexx)
Thanks!
No idea really but maybe try to flash default rom/recovery etc with odin?
I've had this problem. Seeing as you only have download mode you have to flash a stock Rom and start again. Recoveries for our phone are still I development. Use official CMW to install CM, using links in Op.

I got the Samsung stock ROM of july, flashed it using download mode, and everything was back! I then rooted it again, and installed CMW (see versions below). I went into recovery, and tried to do a backup. It told me it failed: "Error while making a backup image of /data!". I then wondered if it may have been due to a lack of storage (which could very well be, as that was the issue before and the old backup by Teamwin was probably still on it somewhere), so I rebooted my phone. That's when it just failed and kept showing the Samsung logo at boot. I tried flashing my ROM again, again the logo. Then I did a factory reset using the regular recovery (cache and data reset), which fixed it. Now all my apps and data are gone, but that's no problem.
I'm back at the unrooted Samsung stock image now. Any ideas what I did wrong? These were the versions I used:
CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505
i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2(0611)
Odin3 v3.07
I did nothing more than root, install CMW, try a backup and then it all went to ****. I'm surprised a backup can even do that.
Mmm I'm not too familiar with the internal workings of backups. Perhaps something was corrupted during flashing? Glad to hear that you have got your phone working again. There is an updated version of CMW somewhere in the original development thread.

i've had the exact same issue.
I did go back to stock firmware and recovery, rerooted(chainfire) and installed the latest CWM 6.0.3.6.
Then, i did download Jamals Google play 4.3 rom, placed it on my SDcard and did follow the instructions. Works like a charm, and i've got noe clue what happened to my phone. however, it works now.

I tried CMW 6.0.3.6 and the Google Play 4.3 ROM as you said, and it works perfectly! I didn't try a backup this time, as it didn't exactly have anything to back up anymore.
Finally my precious vanilla Android again, I missed it since I switched from my Galaxy Nexus to my S4. Thanks a lot guys!
Edit: I do seem to be having one issue. Quite frequently after it's booted, and I enter the SIM pin, the message "Unlocking SIM card..." stays there indefinitely. I can use the phone but the message covers everything up. This doesn't always happen, but quite often. I've read some ROMs can't handle SIM lock, like CM. This is a Google Play edition, however. Is it normal that this doesn't work?
I can seem to fix it by holding the power button, and choosing "Unlock SIM" from the menu. I guess it's not that bad as I don't often reboot my phone.

When it freezes on that first reboot, try a battery pull and see if it will boot. If it doesn't, try another battery pull.
Mine actually did that a few times too (freeze on the SAMSUNG screen after first reboot).

i have a question i had 2.0 working great.
i have tryed to update to 3.0 multible times.
i went from stock md5 right to 3.0 and have issues with the phone rebooting it works ok but once restarted it will not start back up. i also cant get wifi to work.
i have even downgraded to twrp 5.0.2.
i have flashed my phone back to stock md5, than root than wipe everthing than 3.0 and same issues.
i flashed back to stock md5, than root than stock md9 than wipe than 3.0 still issues
i flashed to rooted and odexed md9 wipe than 3.0 still issues.
i have download both direct and torrent and still stumped why the phone freezes after it reboots and no wifi at all after installation.
anyone have any clues?

So i got my phone replaced and installed the software on it and im no longer having the issue i stated above but i do have a new issue with the call recording. I installed it through the aroma installer and then used update me to install it manually like i was reading in the thread. Everytime I try to make a call (with out even pressing the record button) the screen goes black and there is some call recording icon in the left hand side of the status bar. soon after this i get an error that says com.android.phone has stopped. I have tried to reinstall stock with out call recording but it keeps doing it as if the call recording is there. Am i forced to reset and reinstall the rom?
You might want to give Highway55's MF9 ROM a shot. It has the wifi hot spot mod *and* the status bar toggle already built in. I wrote lengthy post on 9/26 detailing my experience with Highway55 along with the simple steps I took to implement the additional mods that I wanted (including call recording).

I think the FreeGS4 ROM has its own AGAT custom kernel. So I don't think you want to do that...

I loved the built in ad-blocker, but noticed it interfered with hulu plus, watch ESPN, and sometimes xfinity player. I've since removed the ad blocker, but was wondering if there was a work around so that I could keep the ad blocker, but have it not block ads for these apps? Or is there a way to get these apps to work with the ad-blocker in place?

[Q] Stuck on LG logo

I recently purchased a lg g2, the korean variant f320s, it was running kitkat with a lot of bloatware on top. I successfully rooted the phone and after that i found a cwm recovery installer for this version of the phone and i hooked up the phone and ran the installer on my pc, it finished installing and the phone rebooted into the custom recovery which was in chinese i went into a menu option and then pressed the back button on the screen and the phone instantly rebooted and got stuck at lg boot logo. Is there anyway to fix this? i have tried wiping cache, dalvik and factory reset from the recovery that i can access(chinese or something) but to no avail. I can access the download mode but my pc does'nt recognize the phone and this step is crucial for i guess installing the stock rom through lg flash tools. The phone however is recognized when im in recovery and i plug it in but it only shows as a drive that is faded out and entering it shows nothing. please help me i just got it two days ago

You are a legend!! Device back up and running.
Okay so I installed that same rom you did but the home/back/menu buttons weren't working so not wanting to muck around, I did some quick searching (which I should have done before >.<) and worked out how to get the Cloudy roms working on a korean device.
You need "Philz cloudy f320 recovery", the kitkat baseband and the rom. LINK
1 - Install the new recovery from zip and then boot back into recovery after this. You will now be greeted with philz recovery which is awesome.
2 - From here, proceed to install the rom as noted on the rom page.
This process worked for me for the Cloudy G3 V1.3 rom.
Thanks a lot for your help!! happy to return the favour! But i am hoping the above info already does that. :victory:

Good to know you got it working again i still cant figure out why this problem occurred in the first place why did the phone brick from the recovery when the recovery was working fiblne after? Also i can just get the new recovery over the one already on the phone without removing the previous one right? Thanks for the info im gonna try out the cloudy roms soon
I have no idea.. something to do with that chinese recovery I am guessing.. There are still a few issues I am going to address but for now my phone is 95% working.
The only issue is that if I try go into download mode, it still doesn't go to the second screen (All i get is the small blue dots). Bit of a pain because that's something nice to fall back on if you ever need to.
I'll search around and try and figure these out in the next week or two, but I am happy with what I have for the moment.
Yep, you literally install the new recovery over your current one and then you can restart phone back into your rom and then reboot back into recovery using an app or the button method.
