Anyones Sprint service down around areas in los angeles? - EVO 4G General

All day pretty much near my area where I'm currently staying over at friends in Los angeles county the service has been down for voice and text.. and i mean down literally no calls at all or text. Data is extremely slow or down as well.
Anyone else having this issue? I thought I'd post you guys here to see answers =) maybe sprint is upgrading towers around here for LTE testing to come soon? I'm not sure.. zip code 90255 and 90001.

Mine is down in the Chicago area. Three weeks now of:
1) Many dropped calls
2) Texts won't come through until you make a phone call (lots of voicemail calls lately)
3) Clock off by an hour for no reason, then switches randomly back to the correct time.
Sprint store said the towers are being worked on. I'm hoping LTE too!

Thanks for that! I'm thinking they might be working on the towers because text messages literally say "not send" ... calls don't even ring.. so many of my friends and neighbors near by are outraged lol! I'm not thankfully.. just forced my device into roaming for the time being in case of any important call or text.

Whoa maybe it is because a lot of users aren't connected right now but i just got a whooping 800 kbps on download! that is a ground breaking speed in years! even previous weeks ago or moths at 2 am i only got 130ish kbps max..

Yeah I'm in the los angeles as well and my sprint voice and text service are down...it's been out since yesterday. I thought it was the weather, but they're working on the towers right?

I'm not sure at this point if they are or not.. I was just talking to another REP and he said there is no open tickets around here and that he has marked the location. Technical Sprint Team would contact me soon. I told him how if Sprint is my main provider for service and it is down.. then he went on to flatter himself it is only the 4G that is down and that 3G and 4G share the same tower.. hahah.. funny guy
Now he said they will visit my place lol
Danny T.: Phillip, I have marked the location, soon technical team will contact you.
You: Thank you, How will they even contact me..? ironic my Sprint service is down haha.. Is there nothing it shows for you on the site about the area?
Danny T.: They will be visit the place.

They have begun work on network vision here in the LA market (including those zips you listed). Only a handful of sites have been completed so far but more will be coming soon. I do not believe it would cause any long term outages though as the sites are normally taken off line (if necessary) at a time when there's the least impact on the users.

Its a small world after all..... how ya been?
Not sure this will be the same as OKC but I saw in the sprint forums OKC was scheduled first of 2011, but Best Buy says it probably be this fall and in some places in Oklahoma 4g is being tested... i would take that with a grain of salt though.
I've heard that they are setting up the infrastructure and testing it. I'd imagine it would be sometime 2011. Again, just hearsay though.
I used to work at the sprint call center in okc that has 4g tech support (i know y have 4g tech in a place that has no 4g) they told us okc will get it in the spring where the call center is on nw expressway and council there is a 4g tower next in but they won't turn it on

As far as Tulsa goes, I turned on 4g yesterday on my epic and was able to pick up a weak signal around 7st and memorial. I guess Sprint is in the testing phase right now
I connected at 71st and Mingo. It took some scanning but I finally connected with 2 bars.
Do you think maybe the store at 71 across from the QT between Memorial and Mingo may have a small 4G tower to show it off, and you are picking that up? Or do you think they have actually started turning it on in Tulsa.
No, I called my buddy at that store and asked if 4g was officially here, he said no but it is in testing phase. I also asked of they have a 4g airave installed and he said that they did not. So welcome to beta wimax in tulsa.

Well I'm at 71 a Yale, but on a CM 6.2 with no 4g. I guess I will try out the the 4G version of it tonight.
Will post later on what I get at 71 and Yale.

There is a Sprint 4g tower on in downtown Tulsa. Signal is weak but the speed is great. Can't wait for more towers to be activated.
I connected to 4G in Stillwater tonight so it has to be real soon
Pics or it didnt happen? I got some screenies,
I was sitting at Haruno Sushi Bar at a booth inside by the Sushi Bar. On a side note they have the best Sushi in town

4G is soo FAIL
LOL about 1/8th of what I've gotten on Tmobile in the same areas on my Nexus One. But I'd still rather have Sprint because Tmobile bounces between Edge, 1G, 3G, and HSPA nonstop, without your phone ever moving. Nothing like waiting for HSPA to kick in while your waiting for a simple weather widget to refresh. I'll be curious to see what Sprint does when its finally rolled out here but I am not hopeful it will be anykind of useful. At least with Sprint I can turn the nonsense off and they are a little faster than Cricket.

But but but ...Verizon is God.
This is what I've been saying, technology isn't perfect.
No amount of money can protect you from problems.
Sprints 4G has not gone down and we have five times the amount of users. 3G works fine in most areas except his borough on NY.
Either way, tech is tech, things happen.

You know I could explain what went wrong here, but I'm slightly enjoying the I told you so feeling. Also, I'd rather wait to see it reach 2 million LTE subscribers before I mention my reasoning. Having said that, Verizon's LTE strategy is fantastic for the consumers, and their 3G/4G offering is currently better than Sprint's. To say your carrier's 3G works fine everywhere but NYC is laughable and silly. Steps were made to make both 3G/4G more enjoyable for the customers, and your patience will be rewarded.

Sprints network works fine except areas being upgraded where towers are being removed and integrated into one, we know this already, so yes it works fine in most areas believe me. The only reason I mentioned NY is because that's his area.

Sprint's network works great, except where it doesn't. Their 4G has never gone down, especially where it hasn't gone up yet.
Well, apparently I don't live in "most areas". Speeds here in Reno, Nevada range from barely tolerable to pathetic. At my house I average about 200 kbs down with a low of 87 kbs to just over 500 kbs. At work, in the middle of town, it averages a little better, around 800 kbs, but is much more erratic with lows around 100 kbs, and very rare highs of around 1600 kbs. Bottom line though, virtually all other carriers are faster than Sprint is here, by a pretty good margin. And it has been that way for about six months now. And then their is the 4g that was promised by the end of the year when I got my phone last June, lets just say I am not holding my breath. I think it would be a pretty good bet that all the other carriers will have 4g here before Sprint does.
That said, I am not necessarily a disgruntled customer. With the exception of Verizon, Sprint has the best coverage here, But Verizon's 4g probably won't get here any sooner than Sprints. ATT's phone call quality sucks, even though their 3g data speeds are at least 2-3 times faster than Sprint on Sprints best day. And Tmobile has the best speed of all, but their coverage totally sucks. So they all have their pros and cons. I'll stick it out for another year, until my current contract runs out. If Sprint doesn't get their act together by then though, I will definitely consider moving on.

I've been with Sprint since 1999 and I'm not going anywhere; I'm a stick it through with them until their network gets better. However, I doubt that Sprint has been integrating the new system into the old one for over half a year in my area. In that amount of time, you would assume that at least one tower would be upgraded by now. My 3G service has 1x speeds everywhere I go in Miami.
Maybe it's one of those things where they can't flip the switch until EVERYTHING is upgraded......I don't know. However, anytime my girl sends me a short video of my kid doing something cute, it's a 20+ minute wait to download 5 MBs if I don't have 4G coverage or WiFi. I used to brag about how fast my phone was and now I try to sneak out of any conversation that has to do with data speeds. lol
DirtyShroom is thirsty to make his employer look good. Networks go down, and you act as if any of Sprint's network has never gone down before. Guess what, it has, and it probably will again.
BTW - I have absolutely no affiliation with Verizon. Don't even have an account with them (EVO/Sprint + ATT/iPhone). What I have said in the past is that:
A) Sprint's EVDO network in NYC is pathetic right now, and most signs point to overcapacity.
B) Verizon's LTE is both faster and more usable because of it's frequency.
So it seems as if Verizon's LTE network is currently down, doesn't effect me, and by the end of the day, it probably won't effect anybody.

Actually, Sprint is in the process of converting old towers which required separate componants for 3G and WIMAX and converting them into new, smaller, all-inclusive towers so that they will be 3G/4G

this, and the first post in this thread are completely false... what are you guys smoking?
Sprint doesn't own any Wimax equipment, it belongs to Clearwire.
Clearwire will only be building out 4G Wimax sites in major cities, the suburbs will be built out by OpenRange..
so, there can never be a combined 3g/4g cell site, they will always have separate equipment for both.

Really Sprint? This is retarded. I pay $10 extra for "premium data" and I don't even have 4G in my area, let alone worth while 3G.
But thanks for the $30 credit on my $190 bill I got slapped with this month.
US Cellular customers in the area get blazing fast 3G speeds...
I would have switched but I love my Evo Shift so much
Tried the latest radio upgrade, nothing new...

WHY WOULD YOU LIE SPRINT?
Sorry, just venting a little bit. Anybody else near me getting the same crap 3G speeds?
I have the same problems with My phone. I believe it might be cm7. When I was sense I got about .60-.90 mbps upload. Now I can barely get passed .30 mbps upload and sometimes it shows .10mbps upload.
I also noticed on cm7 that i go into 1x a lot now. Places where I would usually get 3g I get 1x signal. It's kind of a pain.
edit: At first I thought the radio update did something, but it really didn't help.

I'm not sure if you meant 'Reset' or 'Restore' --- but, there is an issue if you update your data profile and then update PRL that will cause your data profile to get messed up.. I followed the steps in this thread, and now my 3G is perfect... Specifically - the portion dealing with restoring, having the phone reboot, letting it to handsfree activation, and then cancelling the PRL update.
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-tips-tricks/280082-major-solution-fix-your-slow-3g-speeds-evo4g.html
I was only getting a maximum of 90-100kbps before doing this..
If you want the essentials of that post:
Select Data Profile
Hit Menu
Select restore
Hit OK to reboot...
PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PHONE
After going through the set up process (Handsfree Activation, LET IF FINISH) you will select ok
YOU HAVE TO HIT CANCEL WHEN IT STARTS LOOKING FOR A PRL UPDATE
YOU HAVE TO HIT CANCEL WHEN IT STARTS LOOKING FOR A PRL UPDATE
Wait for the phone to finish it's thing. 3g Icon should be on, go off, then come back on.
Test speeds.

I tried all the fixes and the new radio on my Shift and I've just given up. My first month with it I used over 12 gigs of data and now I can't check the weather the signal is so poor. Flashed it back to stock and its going on ebay.

Hmmm......I have never had any problem with my shift's data only when its on 1x.....my moms shift had the 1x bug where it wouldn't connect to 3G but the ##DATA# Restore worked for her phone now the 3G works.....
Might be a cm7 bug

I change my mind in my first post. I think it might be a sprint problem with data speeds. Watch phonedogs review of the nexus s 4g, and start at 8:09. The reviewer stays around my area and I have been getting the same as you see in the review.

I contacted Sprint today and told them my thoughts were over capacity and they gave me a 50 dollar credit on this months bill, I got a 20 dollar credit last month, but all we really want is a reliable network

hey
well i talked to sprint there doing updates here so i will let you guys know if i see any changes but dont think i will so here is to hoping
I compared mine to my wife's hero, her is more than double my speed (100+ vs 39). not sure why, I will think a newer phone should be faster. anyone has any ideas?

100kbps is still horrible 3G speeds, I stayed on sprint's ass about this and my last months bill got a 140 credit and a no charge airave, but i have had this issue for months, and mine were like yours anywhere between 50-100kbps, I told them it was breech of contract and all kinds of things and that they owed me both lines off contract etf free and they offered the airave so i stayed

My experience, wife and i both had other smartphones and both had better signals which made everything liveable. Then purchased 2 shifts signal dropped from 3-4 bars all the time to 1-2 bars and dropped calls. So called Sprint told them that this was unacceptable as my wife uses hers for bussiness and we don't have a land line.2nd day Aired an AirRave to me.We also use our wireless router when at home.

T-Mobile Speed Test (unlimited International data roaming)

So I haven't seen a thread about this yet. Just want to start a thread to keep some interesting data of speeds when using your free unlimited International data roaming.
I'll start with the first screenshot of my speedtest in Taipei, Taiwan. Roaming was fine and as soon as we landed, the text came welcoming us to Taipei on T-Mobile roaming.

LOL, T-Mobile advertise this as a capped 2G speed.
Connection seems like it's always been on 3G.
Also I came over from Sprint and I do know the feeling with Sprint Data sucks ass.

same thing here, I was with sprint for over 10 years, I got fed up with the fake promises of this amazing 4g network they are building etc.
They finally got 4g here in Tucson, but they having problems with some spectrum that penetrates through buildings because of how close the border to mexico is, so we have half way decent 4g outdoors but no signal at all indoors.
And they are saying they will not be allowed to use that where I live for years to come, so its pretty worthless to be on sprint.
Here is my speedtest in Cusco, Peru. So far I done about 1.5gb of roaming on the free data.
NOVA speed for reference

Same story here! Switched to T-Mobile here in DC Metro area after not being able to connect to 4G inside the buildings on the lower floors. Also, no 4G inside my condo on the 3rd floor. It was just so incredibly annoying. The only thing I miss is a more reliable connection inside metro stations.

Please read the thread. We're sharing data info for overseas. This is for "unlimited international data".
This thread is pointless. You can connect to whatever network is available (3G, 4G... maybe even LTE) but it WILL cap your speeds to what you're seeing unless you pay for high speed data passes.
This is the same speed I got in Malaysia and Singapore. Its good for email and Whatsapp and GPS. Not good for youtube. Its better than nothing! Long live T-mobile and thank you!
