4.0.4 OTA for Nexus S 4G! - Nexus S General

The 4.0.4 OTA for ns4g is finally here! I just got the ota notification a couple minutes back by clearing data for Google services framework and going to the dialer and typing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* If you prefer the update to be flashed in stock recovery, here is the link from OFFICIAL Google servers: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo4g/TAMkDR3z.zip to be flashed from stock 2.3.7
Have fun!

WOOHOO!!
Yup I got mine upgraded to ICS via OTA today.
All seems good but it seems a little slower then my previous
stock GB 2.3.7. I was using launcher pro with GB so it is
still my launcher after the upgrade does any one recommend
I should try the original launcher which came with ICS or stick
to Launcher pro??

Nova launcher!

I still use go launcher ex, but I'm going to check out apex and nova. What especially do you like about them? I like go launcher because of the go widgets and also the sweet animations it adds to my phone haha.

I will check APEX out soon.

for me, apex has been the best performing, full featured, free launcher on ics. I don't mind buying apostle & supporting devs, but nova began getting laggy on my ns4g

Got me some samich!

i was on stock rooted rom and was checking for updates every minute so i decided to flash back to stock with one click stock and as soon as i went to system update, it was there downloading. I think you have to hide root or just be completely stock for the OTA. Just remember to do the updates because you start at 2.3.4 and you need to be at 2.3.7!!

I don't think you HAVE to be on 2.3.7. I unrooted my phone and was on 2.3.4 for about 5 mins then I automatically got the notification to upgrade to 4.0.4. I did and everything is working as it should.

anybody know if the phone has to be activated to get the ota update?
my contract phone is still virgin
and sits on a shelf
i use a used rooted one i bought as my phone...
i put my original 2.3.7 on wifi and forced checkin
both ways but got no response
thot i'd leave it on for a while and see
thnx...

I have a i9020T, not 4G, but yesterday I tried the "google framework" method and it works!!!
The ICS made my phone a entire new phone X_X
I´m just little bit concerned about the battery, but it is too soon to comment.

What does clearing the google services framework data do to your phone (i.e. what data am I losing?). I just want to make sure my impatience doesn't cause any future pain.

Used it for 2 days. The only bug I get is randomly I can't access text messages. It requires a reboot.

Yea I love this ROM but I guess its not compatible with Ripple Lock Screen yet or something. When I use it my screen takes like 6 seconds to unlock, really strange as this was not happening with 2.2.1.
Other than that, PERFECT

Yup I did a fresh install. I have both the ripple lock and the agile lock (sense 3.0) and they both do the same. I found out that they ado work but to I have to use the volume to show unlock (weird) If I hit the power button nothing happens at all.
Been using it for about an hour now...so far so good. No problems and as fast and lite as I remember.
Gonna stick with it as my normal runner if no issues creep up.

To be honest with you I only tried CM7 for about an hour. I just didnt like the look and layout, plus it seems like it comes with so much more things installed (bloat to me). During that hour it did not feel any faster nor smoother than Oxygen. Been using Oxygen since 2.2.1 till now and I have NEVER got a reboot or freeze. Check it out man, you wont be dissapointed.

Ok, I'll try that tomorrow or this weekend as i'm off.
but I figured (and hope) it fails to work in stock ATT factory settings like how it came to me on day one, so ATT will replace it.
if my phone just doesn't like working the gps with roms, that'll really suck.
I did look at the sticky, but didn't see anything about locking it back and unrooting

CM7 broke my GPS. I figured out though if you download GPS Status in the Android market and go to tools than Magellan GPS state it will lock on your coordinates. Than just open the GPS program of your choice. Hope it works for you.

I had both. Liquid smooth 3.1 was ok and I used it for a while, but my battery life was horrible and the 3G kept dropping. 3.2 wouldn't load data or wifi at all. miui was great until I tried to use the data to actually work with Pandora or my amazon cloud account, just couldn;t keep connected. Now I's using stock GB, rooted, with GO Launcher ex. Works great.
Wow! That's awesome! But I saw that ad notification once you booted, it was the star with the orange center. What do those come from? If its an app I need to uninstall them.

So...How Do You Like the 4.0.4 OTA on Your VZW Xoom?

Thread title says it all. What do you like? What do you hate?
For me, I'm generally very happy with it. I love the speed and responsiveness as compared to Honeycomb. I love the ICS user interface as well. It isn't all that different from Honeycomb, granted, but it's the little things. I love the page transition effect on the app drawer, the Roboto font is much more readable, and I love being able to swipe away notifications. Honestly, the notification swipe is one of the only things I truly missed about running CyanogenMod in years past. Did I mention I love being able to run Chrome finally?!
As for things I don't like...mainly aesthetics. I'm annoyed that it didn't come with the default ICS "Phase Beam" live wallpaper, but it's alright. I just ganked it from a deodexed stock Galaxy Nexus ROM and it installed fine on the Xoom. Ditto for the "Adara" notification sound.
How about you?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Meh so far. To me battery is worse, 3g signal seems worse, pulse lags just as much.
Need to root and go to an OC'd ics rom.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Pulse lag is most likely the app. At first, I actually thought battery life was better but now that a week has gone by, it actually seems the same for me as it was on Honeycomb...and for me, the new radio seems better, though admittedly I live in a 4G market so I'm not sure how the 3G reception is vs. Honeycomb.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Radio is definitely better for me. Batt life seems marginally better, too, though I'm back on EOS nightly since they have the new radios... def improved batt, with all the addtl features and smoothness EOS brings.

Stock browser crashes all the time if I request desktop version of websites, or if I use google image search desktop version and open more than 4 tabs.
Otherwise, runs good, better 4g connection, and I am a little more than pissed Verizon didnt include SMS/MMS with the ICS upgrade.
I still haven't gotten it. Wth?

I just installed this app called Docktor, which cancels the launching of an app every time your dock your Xoom, since it bugged me too!
Instead it just gives you a little pop-up so that your default is overridden.
Hope this helps; it certainly got rid of my annoyances
I eventually came back to stock because I wanted to be able to watch google play movies. Plus the app I Ned to use no longer required root to work. I am enjoying the ota quite a bit and have noticed my battery life extended quite a bit from EOS 2.0

Hi there,
I recently purchased my nexus 7. I used to have an XDA account from years ago.
Basically, tonight I installed the AOSP ROM released for the nexus 7 on rootzwiki forums and I found that it had the normal launcher so it seemed like a jelly bean ROM with a white theme to it. Since then I discovered I was able to download and install Google Home and that enabled me to use the new UI with the transparent status bar and nav bar. So far I like it a lot. Its quite stable with a few bugs and it will get better.
And a video on YouTube of the ROM
