Is ICS (CM9) so much better than CM7 ?
Is it worthwile to upgrade ?
It's amazing: it activated the second CPU core on my Defy .
Seriously now, I like it more than CM7: the UI is more polished and there is now a sense of unity, the system already seems snappier, better battery life, etc.
Of course, being still in development there are some issues, mainly videocamera-related and the HWA is still not working. Plus a few more quirks here and there, but it's stable enough for daily use.
Give it a try yourself, it's worth it. I'm using 06.04 by Epsylon3 with Froyo kernel and green lens.

If you are already on CM7 you don't need to flash the kernel (if you use the same one with CM9, that is - if you are now using Froyo, flash a Froyo CM9 build) . After step 2 wipe also Cache and Dalvik cache (it's better to wipe them before and after flashing, to prevent errors). The rest is okay.

What kind of Defy do you have? Defy (green or red lens?) or Defy+?
What kernel are you using with CM7? Froyo or Gingerbread kernel?
defy with red lens. And I upgraded from eclair to froyo so it must be the froyo kernel I use with CM7.

Yes, that looks like the Froyo kernel.
This is the latest build of CM9 for the Froyo kernel, by Epsylon3 - 120406. I'm using it and for me it seems stable enough.
You can flash that nightly, don't worry about the kernel.
this one works also for the red lens ? And is the camera working alright or same as in CM7 ? And what is the HWA ?
Yes, since you have a Defy with Bayer module (red lens) and a Froyo kernel you can use that build. Regarding the camera, you can take pictures, panorama mode still crashes and video seems to work in some cases (it's still in development - CM9 isn't even in the Beta stage now).
HWA stands for Hardware Acceleration - it's needed for Flash in the browser (and for Chrome to work, as an example) and to have a more fluid and prettier user interface (with shading, antialiasing, etc).
I think I'm going to wait a little till everything works like in CM7.

Yes you can. Do a Nandroid full backup before flashing CM9.
In case you want to go back, just restore the nandroid backup and the boot img (in advanced restore).
I did it a month ago and everything was ok. Anyway I think you will stay using ICS after trying it, I am using Quarx's 03/05 and is really good, just the HWA problem and barcode scanners, google goolgles and apps like them are not working right. camera and video recording are working fine as well.
DEFY (BAYER module lens) - ICS Quarx's 03/05 froyo kernel.
I installed the 1604 CM9 version and everything seems to work ! Only i don't see how to move apps to the sd card ? The tab to do that is not there anymore !
Anybody an idea how ?

Here I found on a Spain forum two custom roms.
I will explain how to install them and install the custom recovery.

Both Roms have OC kernels with speeds of 780MHz for ZAD and 729 for CM7, and a lot of programs were deleted for faster response, but both are GOOD and stable. I have tried it both.

I notice both these roms the call volume is a fair bit quieter than my original australian version.
Mucked about with audiofilter.csv .... couldn't get it any louder.
Which is a bummer really as everything else is great - I need it fairly loud as I work in a noisy area.
Anyone got any ideas on how to make it as loud as the stock version?

This rom is not that good, it's really buggy,runs slow true the screens,and if you put a custom launcher then its way to buggy.
I'm a to release a rom based on Yoigo original rom with oc kernet that run very fast an stable. IM'm testing it now to see if every thing is working.
The rom will be clena and fast, withe the accent to speed and stability. Ext an swap included. It runs Angry Birs 2 time faster than the iphone 3gs.

yes i know i tested it all, for a week each and so far zad is the best,but... The GGR that I'm working on, it will be even better, the ROM will be posted as soon as is properly tested!

it has the same OC kernel as the ZAD Rom but it has ext/swap and few other tweaks, must say that Zad did a good work with OC the kernel but has few leaks in the rom itself.

Hey nims. I'm facing issues... I restored from cwm5. And it says sd-ext format fail. So I ignored it and rebooted my phone. Roms looking great but I'm having Market force close issues... Isit releated to the sd-ext issue?

Thanks a lot nims11 for your efforts! Does this drain battery? Since the original 7.2 by Axel003 was not friendly with my battery. Hence the question.

Flashed the V2 via Ivan recovery after 4 wipes and system format ( starting from ics 404029 baseband).
At first boot it appear a popup in lithuanian : deja, telefonas sustojo ( Unfortunately, the phone stopped )
if I click ok, it disappears and reappears instantly. It does not allow the use of the phone.

Yes its me it wasnt a fake but because i cant explain it to everyone pm me if you want proof. Im just trying t get the flame off me since pika will leave this forum and it needs devs.
For phone error just replace Phone.apk from Ivan's cm10 release. Staca has messed up a little bit, but it's easy to fix

Tried to change the phone.apk wth the one from original ivan rom, but after the phone app, there are other app that crash during the first boot, i can ignore some of those, but when also google account manager crash i can't ignore it.
I get stuck at the "Google and Location" screen.

1)Open OTA Updater when there is a notification for OTA
2)Download the OTA package
3)Tick Wipe Cache
4)Wait for reboot to cwm

For real now...this ****ing rom was one of the most dificult to complete...
I had 1.0 working and i do the stupidest think to start making changes over the working zip so i ruin it...
i flash it over 30 times and allways it stuck on bootanimation...not only stuck...but the bootanimation it self stuck....im changing apk per apk now and im hopping this will be the last flash i will make!!!

No i dont sleep at all and i make this mistake...anyway it was some ****ing libs from the ****ing samsung interface...

Fixed uploading....im on 20+% and notice that the root explorer i put gives FC i will fix it but not now...just to know you need a proper root explorer!!

check the build.prop ... lcd.density=200 or smthng not 240 may cause fail of capability in market.also check model & other stuff where need to be Huawei U8800pro written in

I always use 200 lcd without any problems..i check the model name brand...maybe this time is lcd...if it fixes the problem tell me

Need a rooted phone with CWMcustom(not stok) instaled
Install method:
1] Download the Rom file from the link provided
2] Place it in the root of your SD card
3] Go to CWM or any other custom recovery
4] Wipe Data/Factory Reset
5] Wipe Dalvilk cache
6] Select "Install .zip from SD card" and select the file
7] Select "YES"
8] Reboot system (It will take 2-3 minutes to boot so don't worry)
For screenshots, press the screenshots button from the top
Dont forget to do a backup of your previous working rom(just in case )
phone waranty wil be losted so you do it on your risk

Wow! Cannot wait to try it! I will flash it as soon as possible even if its late in the night!
Edit: So I installed the rom. It works really fast, just as fast as the MIUI rom and is very pretty. I have used the MIUI rom since the very first day vaserbanix has ported it, as it is a very reliable rom. But it seems that this port can also be as good as the MIUI rom. I haven't found any bug yet on panoramic rom, everything works as expected, which is really promising. I believe that there is no auto-brightness, but then again, it might be my problem that I do not find it in the settings.
Great work as always, vaserbanix! It was a really awesome surprise to see a new rom this evening!

Edit 2: It seems that it doesn't have root access, even though SuperSU and BusyBox are installed. I will re-root it with Framaroot to see if it gets rooted this way.
Edit 3: Yes it has been rooted with Framaroot using the Boromir exploit. All is well and good, i have installed Xposed on the phone successfully. We will now see how much does the battery last with this excellent port.

I have found a small bug. The Youtube app, after update, doesn't work. The sound works, but the video is just a picture, it won't play properly. Maybe if I uninstall the google apps and flash them again will work? Can I uninstall them and install the gapps you provided on your lewa os rom? Or is there a simpler solution to fix the youtube app?

you can try
but i use that gaaps on leva and it doesnt work after update
maybe another gaaps 4.2.2 more recently will work, search on "goagal" [emoji1]
make a backup first

Not really, I played with the rom

oki tested this rom for a few hours...i havent found any bug...but status bar could use a little bit more work, it kinda look bad ...miui v5 still the best rm , and im waiting for stable lewa os thanks vaserbanix
