New user here, I'd just like to say Hi. I'm usually on the Moto Droid forums. Just got my Nexus S 4g today and I LOVE it.
Rooted running CM7 Nightlies.
I just had a few questions
I understand this phone cant do 720p. Is there a hack that can?
Does RenderFX help battery life? if so, which setting?
What are some roms/kernels you suggest?
Also, ill be working on some Themes for the Nexus S, (I'm a theme designer).
I usually make themes that make the phone look like another phone (iPhone, x10, Atrix 4G)
I'd also like to thank XDA for providing such an active user-base.
Think of a theme and ill try to make it, Thanks
Best battery life rom I found was oxygen. I thought I was going crazy because the battery life was so good. Its great plus you can download voodoo and it has netarchy kernel. Plus its aosp more than stock. Miui is most beautiful theme rich rom but battery life sucks. Cm7 was OK for me just kind of buggy. So I stuck with oxygen. Oh and nope...no camera hacks yet. No HD video or zoom. Sorry.
Hope this helps

No problem. I've had time to play with it and those were my results. Check out "zedomax" channel on YouTube he just got a ns4g so he'll start reviewing Roms shortly

Another question, does this phone require Cell service for GPS?

That's one thing I'm completely unsure of I know I've been in the middle of a call and all of a sudden it announces a turn ahead. Turn data off (settings then wireless and networks and then mobile data click off) and try to get a direction

I got mine on Friday! There will never be 720p video as its a hardware limitation. In order to fit the nfc chip, Google opted to use a smaller camera without an HD encoder.

For my TASTE, I like decks 1.3d since I had the least amount of issues with, none really. The kernel I have had the best luck with is Matr1x 6.0 cfs. I like the fact that it has voodoo if needed, bln and bld now. Since I updated to 6.0 I have had no lockups or reboots period. I don't change the speed or volting just the govenor (sp). They are smooth together. But for what its worth phones might not like the same thing as another.
I have tried just about every rom on xda for the ns4g.
Decks
Miui
Ice and fire
Stock rooted
Oyxgen
Kings
But I don't want to try cm7 as to battery life when I get well over 12hrs of use daily and no nightlys cause it seems like something is always broke. No offense to either or anyone, just what I prefer.

Used stock kernel wiped dalvik and data 3 times it didn't work so I restored my backup and tried again and still nothinh
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Maybe try again with a different kernel. I wipe cache once, factory reset once and write dalvik 3 times. Install decks 1.3D with matr1x 6.0.

I'm gonna try matrix but I'm kinda in a bind. I need stock nexus s 4g kernel. I flashed netarchy and backed it up then when I went to delete my miui backup I accidentally deleted my completely stock (besides super user) backup and now I have no stock kernel.

I was wondering if there are any good solutions out there to using the lapdock with CM7 or 9? I use it for note taking and have done full linux etc. but really all I need it for is note taking. CM7 just shows a portrait view of your phone when plugged in right? If it was landscape that would be great since then I could use Evernote's android app or something.
Anyone got any good solutions to using the lapdock with CM7?
P.S. I know just using a Blur ROM is a solution.

No, there isn't any solution at the moment. I doubt that we will even see webtop in cm7/9.
o I wish the would just upgrade to ics officially! I just got a atrix 4g and a lapdock

Ya I bought the phone specifically to use the lapdock so I stick to blur roms.

Well at least ics us coming but I'm worried by the time its out I will be switching carriers and they won't support the atrix because of different band they run on.

landscape HDMI mirror works now in the newest CM7 and CM9 ROMs, just FYI.
This is how I used to roll with MIUI.

I had both. Liquid smooth 3.1 was ok and I used it for a while, but my battery life was horrible and the 3G kept dropping. 3.2 wouldn't load data or wifi at all. miui was great until I tried to use the data to actually work with Pandora or my amazon cloud account, just couldn;t keep connected. Now I's using stock GB, rooted, with GO Launcher ex. Works great.
Wow! That's awesome! But I saw that ad notification once you booted, it was the star with the orange center. What do those come from? If its an app I need to uninstall them.

Thread title says it all. What do you like? What do you hate?
For me, I'm generally very happy with it. I love the speed and responsiveness as compared to Honeycomb. I love the ICS user interface as well. It isn't all that different from Honeycomb, granted, but it's the little things. I love the page transition effect on the app drawer, the Roboto font is much more readable, and I love being able to swipe away notifications. Honestly, the notification swipe is one of the only things I truly missed about running CyanogenMod in years past. Did I mention I love being able to run Chrome finally?!
As for things I don't like...mainly aesthetics. I'm annoyed that it didn't come with the default ICS "Phase Beam" live wallpaper, but it's alright. I just ganked it from a deodexed stock Galaxy Nexus ROM and it installed fine on the Xoom. Ditto for the "Adara" notification sound.
How about you?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Meh so far. To me battery is worse, 3g signal seems worse, pulse lags just as much.
Need to root and go to an OC'd ics rom.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Pulse lag is most likely the app. At first, I actually thought battery life was better but now that a week has gone by, it actually seems the same for me as it was on Honeycomb...and for me, the new radio seems better, though admittedly I live in a 4G market so I'm not sure how the 3G reception is vs. Honeycomb.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Radio is definitely better for me. Batt life seems marginally better, too, though I'm back on EOS nightly since they have the new radios... def improved batt, with all the addtl features and smoothness EOS brings.
I wish it didn't try to launch an app every time I put it in a dock. There are dock controls in Settings on my Galaxy Nexus but not this?

Stock browser crashes all the time if I request desktop version of websites, or if I use google image search desktop version and open more than 4 tabs.
Otherwise, runs good, better 4g connection, and I am a little more than pissed Verizon didnt include SMS/MMS with the ICS upgrade.
I still haven't gotten it. Wth?

I just installed this app called Docktor, which cancels the launching of an app every time your dock your Xoom, since it bugged me too!
Instead it just gives you a little pop-up so that your default is overridden.
Hope this helps; it certainly got rid of my annoyances
I eventually came back to stock because I wanted to be able to watch google play movies. Plus the app I Ned to use no longer required root to work. I am enjoying the ota quite a bit and have noticed my battery life extended quite a bit from EOS 2.0

I am liking my stock xoom way more than I thought. Honestly with ice cream sandwich I am needing less and less to try out new roms. And with stock I am getting better battery life than with EOS or cm9. Please don't think I am taking anything away from those two groups of developers. They have my upmost respect.

You have to be running Android 3.2.6 HLK75H in order to update to 4.0.4. It's odd that you didn't get an update to 3.2.4 or 3.2.6...Is your boot loader unlocked? Do you have a custom recovery installed?

I was on CM9 but completely restored my Xoom to stock because non of the 4.0 custom roms would work with my Xoom. Its like no matter what rom I was on something hardware related would always malfunction. As of now it is locked and back to stock but aprently stuck at 3.2.2.

Just to make sure, you ARE using a Verizon 4G LTE Xoom and not a Verizon 3G CDMA or non-Verizon model right?
Since the DX is pretty old now are there any dev's still making new ROMS for this device? Also what are you currently running ROM/Kernel wise?
Developers are very active with the Droid X.
On mine, I am running MIUI v4.

I've tried most of the ICS ROMs for the Droid X. I really like them, but my battery life isn't as good as stock with them. Of course the 2 year old battery is about done for anyways. I'm stock .605 rooted right now. It's my fall back, safe ROM.
Running cm9 with the cm9 kernel works like a charm!

Once the source code is released, developers will probably start work on porting it.
My guess is it shouldn't be incredibly difficult for them, since it's just an incremental update.
