Delete apps iOS,miui,go launcher? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a tweek or a custom ics launcher which will enable deleting applications by long pressing on an application like iOS or miui? I know go launcher has this feature but I really like the stock launcher. I know there is also ics theme for go launcher but I wasn't that impressed with it to be honest.

Using other launchers eg launcher pro

Hi, I'm pretty new to the android world, and I know dhd runs on sense, so what would running something like launcherpro do? Is sense removed or is it just running in the background? Oh and must I root? sorry if I sound so noob :X

launcher pro is excellent, the best and smoothest android launcher, but has an initial learning curve
It doesn't need root, you can install it and make it the default launcher then restart your phone, once you do the sense launcher will not be loaded neither will the widgets.
but the framework of sense like gallery and mail for example will still be there, which is really a good thing since they are a lot better than stock android apps
No need to root and sense will still be there if you uninstall Launcher Pro..
You may want to look at my thread which is useful, it gives you custom icons and 100's of docks to use..
Its in the apps and themes forum..
I couldn't be without the scrollable dock now..
Ooo! Thanks basically, I install launcher pro, restart phone, and get a 'blank' home page?
What does launcher pro replace then, the 7 home screens? Does the keyboard change?
Will running launcherpro mean more artery consumption? And what do you mean by dock? Oh and, apps, accoubts, calendars all that still remain the same.right? I'll try to search for your thread thanks!
I love this forum thanks so much for bringing this new android user so much advice xD much is appreciated

LauncherPro is a great launcher.
Unlike Sense UI where it drains lots of battery power.
so if i just use it, without rooting, will battery life be drained very dramatically? sense UI doesnt suck battery in the background right?
Linked contacts all those will be gone i presume? if i use launcher pro
Okay, I just downloaded launcherpro free, any way for me to get more widgets, like a clock?

Your best bet is to go to applications in settings then find htc sense. Click on it and select force stop, that will clear the defaults. Then press your home button and tick always choose this option and click on launcher pro. No reboot required

thanks~ now fiddling around with launcher pro, but is there any guide to make my notification bar like the stock one, which is white? or any tips on getting widgets?
I thought beautiful widgets had loads of widgets -_- i bought, and didnt know only is weather. too late to refund ~_~
oh does using launcher pro increase the battery usage? because is the htc sense UI some how running in the background?
I love launcher pro, but I keep getting prompts to set my default home when I use widgetlocker
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Using launcher pro has approximately doubled my battery life. I was getting only 2 - 6 hours out of a charge before now 5 - 12. All the things that were burning juice like maps sync, freindstream just dont run constantly anymore.

Notification bar - switch back to HTC Sense, find a theme which has a white top bar, switch to that theme in HTC Sense and then go back to your launcher. You will still get the status bar at the top and lock screen according to your HTC Sense theme settings.
Widgets - well, i think best would be for you to look at this forum :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=527
and especially these two themes :

To your other questions - alternative launchers replace just your home, that means the main screens + application list. The rest still runs like if you had HTC Sense home.

Select your home in settings of WidgetLocker (Settings>Behavior>Select System Home or HomeHelper's Launcher, depends if you use HomeHelper or not).

TouchWiz on the G2...

Now, no hating the OP for such a dubious question. I have grown to liking the TouchWiz launcher when I was using my Vibrant. Snce I 'upgraded' to a HTC G2, I was wondering if the TouchWiz launcher can be ported to the G2?

Re: Launcher
I prefer to use nova launcher, trebuchet now is unable to uninstall apps using the drag and drop method. Nova is faster in my instance and able to run through the widget screens without lag

+1 Apex Launcher is smooth, and it also has all of Nova's Features and More. (Plus it's free )
I use the Nova launcher. Pretty close to ICS as I see it but the cube animation is a lot like golauncher which I use on my tablet.
I use the trebuchet, its the smoothest so far compared to all others
Been giving apex a go an its my new fave
IceColdGlacier®
I've been using nova but apex has such good reviews from what I've seen I'm downloading it now

I use ADW Launcher EX. I don't like the look of stock launcher and ADW don't have any issues on ICS.

I prefer Trebuchet launcher. Its very smooth
Apex is my new favorite. I just love all the options I get and it's really stable on my Glacier running IceColdInsomnia 6.2.1.

+1 to add, enabling the wallpaper hack bypasses any bugs with static wallpapers. No static wallpaper scrolling? ADW. Plus full settings backup and desktop configuration backup to SD card for us flash addicts.

Since I am content running the Black Ice rom, I decided to use the zeam launcher that comes with it. I had to force myself to stop using GO Launcher, because i felt it was useless to change roms, if i was just going to put the same Launcher over it.

I tried them all. At first I liked Nova but then switched to the default 'launcher' however after updating to zips 3.11, the default launcher no longer exists.

Semi-Transparent/Transparent application menu while keeping original launcher

Is it possible to make the applications menu semi-transparent/transparent while keeping the original launcher? I don't like it when I press the app drawer and the app menu turns the background black.
Its something like this(in the attachments) but I also want it to be completely transparent.
If you get an alternate launcher from the Play Store like Nova or Apex, I believe there is an option in the settings to adjust the opacity of the app drawer. I don't think there is a way to do this with the stock launcher, though.

I hope to keep the stock launcher because I want to keep it original while doing some mods to it to make it look better
Unless you somehow mod the stock launcher and change the background transparency then no you can't do it. I use Nova launcher and my app drawer is semi transparent. Nova is much better than the stock launcher IMO. Maybe talk to a dev and see if they can help you out with the mod if you wanna keep everything stock.

What is a launcher?

Hi guys, can you explain what a launcher is. If I add or use a launcher what happens to my stock launcher? Is it running in the background, use more battery? Will it keep my app arrangement in stock saved while I use a new launcher? Thanks for all the help I've been using stock ever since I used a Nexus.
Sent from my Paranoid Nexus 4
A launcher launches apps, app drawer, home screens, etc. If you install another launcher, you will be prompted which you want to use, stock or the one you downloaded. Not sure if the stock runs in the background, but i believe your set up will be the same if you delete your new launcher. Download one and try: for example, there's nova, adw, apex, etc.

A launcher is where you find your home screens, widgets, apps, etc. If you download and install a third party launcher such as Apex or Nova your stock launcher is still there. It doesn't change unless you change it. You can do whatever you want with the third party launcher and it won't mess with your stock launcher setup. They are completely separate. It won't use more battery. It doesn't really run in the background. Sheen you first install the new launcher and press the home button a prompt for which launcher to use will come up. You can select the such launcher or the new one. You can also chose to use the option you pick just once, in case you want to test it out and go back and forth between launchers, or always if you decide you like the new launcher more.

I personally use Apex, but many people like Nova launcher. Those are the two titans. But there's a dozens of different launchers that offer different features and UI experiences.

I've used adw, long ago, but now i've been using nova and enjoying it over stock.
I prefer apex. Apex and nova are pretty similar. Go launcher is nice because of all the theme packs but has a lot of extra add on programming I don't care for like there own app store. Adw I've never really used
