[POLL] Phone or Tablet Keyboard? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Well I am reviewing the Note currently, and I just installed Swiftkey X 3.0 Beta, and it told me that I might like to try the tablet version instead. Now the only difference between the two is how the keyboard handles landscape mode. Device keeps the keyboard together, while the tablet version spreads it apart.
My question is, which do you guy prefer? I'm actually using the device version more than the tablet version in landscape. Mainly because I have no problem with reaching the middle of the screen. But what about you guys?

Tired both I prefer the phone version of swift. Using it on 240DPI.

I have used Tablet mode for Swiftkey virtually since I got the phone. Make sure that you tweak the row height settings to get the right balance though as unfortunately even in landscape i find keyboards generally take up too much room.
The screen on the Note is so big that it is nigh on impossible to get across it quickly using Swype. No probs in portrait doing this but as a result SwiftKey offers the best balance overall.
Download the Swiftkey trial and give it a shot!
PS: If you are reviewing it give the one I did a once over...

I have been using the tablet version since the beginning and I am quite satisfied (I use it mainly in greek and french languages) . There's one feature I miss though, namely the ARROW KEYS, that seem to be available in the phone version.

I'm running my Note @ 320dpi and therefore i use a phone keyboard (was stock ICS keyboard, now i'm on SwiftKey Beta 3) but that's mainly because i'm using a phone UI and not a tablet UI
If you're using 213dpi or below then it makes sense to use a tablet keyboard (Thumb Keyboard etc.)

Swiftkey beta for tablets is out - pure awesome

It's posted elsewhere on here but please do yourself a favor and go sign up for the Swiftkey beta (or called VIP) to access it. It's downright awesome. Apart from a standard layout they offer a thumb keyboard that works very very well. There are a bunch of customizable options and the UI/design is very honeycombish so it blends right in. I'm using it now and while it takes a little while to get used to using a thumb keyboard it's much more comfortable when you're holding the tablet.
I'm loving it.
It's okay, but the actual Thumb Keyboard app has a much nicer layout imo. Hopefully SwiftKey will listen on their forums.

Ive actually got a newer version than the one in the VIP but thats becauser of a specific issue i pointed out in the beta program. Its ok but the text prediction on the version on my Droid is WAY better. I disabled prediction on my Xoom, still get suggestions though.
I saw this on Android Central a while ago, looks pretty nice. I'll check it out when I can.
Tried out Swiftkey on my Xoom, and the thumb layout keys are way to small for me. Thumb Keyboard is still much easier for me to type with--I'm up to about 40 words a minute with it, and can't get anywhere near that with Swiftkey.

That's the feedback we all gave in the official alpha Google group, too much black space, too small of keys. They've already addressed issues for us. I hated Thumb Keyboard, uninstalled it before the 15 minutes were up. SwiftKey's text prediction is just great, Thumb Keyboard can suck it.
both are great but at the end of the day I found myself going back to thumb keyboard
Thumbing it....
Maybe it's me but I find the regular keyboard or SwiftKey easier to type as in like on a real keyboard. It's just too damn awkward typing with my thumbs all the time. I do like the Tron look of SwiftKey though.

Another vote here for Thumb Keyboard. I first bought it for my DX, and really liked it there; I had high hopes for it on the Xoom, and I was not disappointed. This should have been the keyboard that shipped with the Xoom. If the standard Xoom keyboard was my only choice, I would have returned the Xoom after one day. I believe that for SwiftKey to even a prayer they need to split the portrait mode keyboard the way Thumb Keyboard is. I've got big hands, and the stretch to type in portrait (my default orientation) is too much for me.
I was using thumb keyboard until this beta came out. I think I agree about button size, they need to be a little bigger. Aside from that, it's great.
One thing I like is that SwiftKey still shows text prediction and spell check with a bluetooth keyboard connected. That was lacking with the stock and thumb keyboards.

You all now that Swiftkey for tablets has a thumb keyboard built in right? Are you saying you don't like that or were you not aware? The default is qwerty but there is an excellent thumb keyboard built in which is what I use. It's better than Thumb Keyboard IMHO.

It seems far too small for me, cool looking as it may be.
Swiftkey confirmed for awesome. In response to a query last night about general availability for HC, they sent me a beta invite.
Maybe not so exclusive, but I thought it was a nice touch.
Still getting used to it, but I think what I like best is how the "tron" theme fits in with the rest of the stock HC theme.
Also... make it create sentences from scratch! Type a word then just start hitting space. Hilarious
Is there a newer version that came out in the last 2days?

(Q) looking for a better keyboard than stock

I don't like the gingerbread stock keyboard, what's the best keyboard app to delete

I absolutely love SwiftKey...
I like Jonasl's modded HTC keyboard. It's basically the HTC keyboard with every additional option and feature you can possibly think of. There's even an online kitchen for you to customize every color, font, and symbol of the keys if you want to make your own, custom themed one. Btw, it says 2.2/Froyo but it works perfectly on Gingerbread.

Thanks I will try out jonasl modded keyboard... swift key freezes on me

FlexT9
was free on amazon the other day. I like it over swiftkey because it isn't as intrusive. Lot of flexibility and easy to use. speech to text works VERY well.
I'm gonna go with my personal preference (not best) Swype
Personally, I really like Better Keyboard. I've been using it for the past couple of years and it's never caused any problems. There are a bunch of skins out there for it, but the thing I especially like is you can change the height of the keys. I tend to make the keys around 80% of normal height so I can maximize the viewable screen size.

Alternative Keyboards To Stock Samsung

Hi guys,
So if you've used the Stock Samsung Keyboard, I'm guessing you have worked out it's even worse than the iOS keyboard, actually no it's not that bad, but still. It's missing key features and for some reason on each reboot of the phone it seems to forget words I've told it to remember. Coming from a One X, this keyboard is extremely hard to adopt, as the Sense keyboard is absolutely beautiful.
Does anyone know any good, free, alternative keyboards that I could use, maybe even a Sense keyboard? To date I have used the following keyboards, and hate them!:
AOSP Gingerbread
AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich
GO Keyboard (HATED THIS!!)
I can't think of any alternative, however if you guys take the time to make some suggestions I would really really appreciate it! I don't mind installing applications that aren't in the Play Store, I just reeaaaaaly want something better than this!
Thanks guys, you da bomb
I use Ice Cream Sandwich Keyboard by johntanmi
I used to use Smart Keyboard PRO when I was on my GS2 with Gingerbread.
I actually found the Sense keyboard very hard to use and have always been a fan of the iOS keyboard. I really wish there was a ripoff for it for Android that came close. I can use an iOS keyboard on a 3.5" screen as well as I use the ICS keyboard on my 4.8" GS3 screen.
I highly recommend SwiftKey X. It's excellent.
There is a free version of SwiftKeyX, though I would honestly suggest buying it, and eventually Swiftkey3 when it comes out of beta. I don't have an S3 (yet), so I don't know the compatibility it'll have with the phone, but unless you're looking for something similar to Swype, Swiftkey is the way to go.

Or even better, the SwiftKey 3 beta.
Was using ics keyboard donation version for a while but siwftkey keyboard blows it out of the water.
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
I'm also a +1 for Swiftkey 3 beta (using it now on my Galaxy Nexus)
here's the link (download at bottom of the page):
http://www.swiftkey.net/swiftkey-3-beta-smart-space-ui-themes
I've used SwiftkeyX before (and personally wasnt a huge fan), but I find the changes in Swiftkey 3 have been amazing so far. Especially the new themes, Swiftkey 3 makes the whole thing look much more professional.
Tinker around with the Swiftkey3 settings (I like setting the spacebar action to complete the current word)
I only have a few issues (which im sure they'll work out in the future) - such as their voice input (its not like ICS keyboard where it will dynamically populate your words as you speak , but instead will LIST out options of what it thinks you said)
anyways - Swiftkey3 ! DO IT
I have tried over 10 different keyboards and I keep coming back to Swiftkey. The auto-correction and prediction algorithm is second-to-none. It also handles up to 3 languages simultaneously, so it makes it simple to type in multiple languages (in my case, English and Portuguese). The beta also looks very promising, so it will keep getting better.
Thanks for the replies guys! I'm going to try SwiftKey X and SwiftKey 3, means a lot to me the replies I have had. Support on this seems to be buzzing a hella lot more than over on the One X forums
+ 1000 with SwiftKey... it's just the best! You won't be disappointed of wasting some bucks on it!

What i really love about Swiftkey X is that this keyboard learns my "typing habits" from my SMS, gmail, facebook or twitter. The text prediction become almost perfect.
On the GS3 (coming from a HTC Desire), i tried the samsung keyboard, and installed Swiftkey again after 5 minutes of hating this stock keyboard.
Yeah, I must recommend SwiftKey also, the beta is amazing, I type almost as fast as I do on my desktop... Sometimes it feels impossible to mistype lol. It reads my mind :s

I can recommend slideit keyboard. I used it on my sgs2 and now on the s3. Try it, you may like it

I've tried just about everything but I keep coming back to FlexT9. I wish I didn't as it's uglier than everything else IMO, but in terms of functionality and usability I can't find anything that beats it.
You might try out Thumb Keyboard. I wrote this especially for devices with large screens. Besides a standard layout it has split layouts for landscape and portrait. Although I'm pretty objective when it comes to keyboards, I still find myself typing the most fast on this one.
+ for the SwiftKey. Really really nice, both in visual terms and functionality.
swiftkey X (first app i bought ^^) very nice and useful keyboard
Better keyboard 8. On the S2 gingerbread keyboard.

If you get a stylus and screen protector, I would recommend swype. That setup rules.

Slightly off-topic: are they not the same?

[Q] Favorite "swipe" style keyboard for the N4?

My wife and I both have Nexus 4s. I love mine, basically top to bottom, but she's not a fan of the keyboard. She really liked both the keyboard and it's accompanying voice input keyboard on her old T-Mobile MyTouch 4G. (HTC phone.)
Now, she does generally like the voice input on the stock N4 keyboard, but does NOT like the swipe keyboard. It doesn't do as well for her at giving suggested words as she types, and it can be harder to get the word she actually wants.
Now, I installed the Swype beta for her, but while she likes that KEYBOARD just fine, the voice input sucks for her.
The most important thing for my wife with her phone is that she can easily use a good swipe style keyboard AND use the voice input effectively.
Any advice on what to try?
I've tried loads, nothing comes close in terms of accuracy to Swype
I am user of Swiftkey from year at least and now with addition of Flow you shld give it a try.
I dont use flow lot but it can work normal way too and great prediction since its learning since year.
I tried Flow, bought SwiftKey agrees ago, the swiping is nowhere near as good as Swype
What's wrong with the stock one? I've found it to be very accurate and voice input is great. From what I've heard (but not actual experience) swiftkey is the best. If you last tried it ages ago, maybe you should buy it again (or get the trial if there is one) and check it out.
I prefer SwiftKey as it can learn and predict my words. i mix english and my native language using SwiftKey and the prediction is awesome. but it need time to learn. :good:
Swiftkey
In my opinion of messing with different options available including the one built into Android, Swiftkey is the best.
One of the best features in my opinion is the built in prediction engine that just gets better. It just learns, recognizes and applies as you flow across the screen
SwiftKey user here as well. Very good keyboard

[Q] What's your favorite custom keyboard?

Hey everyone, I was wondering for those of you who use a different keyboard other than LG's gay keyboard what is your favorite keyboard? I have been using Go Keyboard it's the only one I like so far.
I used swype on my old phone but using the gay keyboard for now. It isn't as intuitive as swype but handles my needs.
SwiftKey all the way!
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Swiftkey, although I've never used the predictive function so it's pretty much the same as swype or vanilla to me.
Yup, I used Swiftkey since it launched in beta and loved it. I never thought I'd ever use anything else, but I have found the stock LG/"gay" keyboard to be quite functional. It has a dedicated number row so I don't have to switch between numbers and alphabet (like I did on Swiftkey). It also comes with some great emojis that works with iOS so I don't have to download anything extra, like I did with Swiftkey. The swype feature has been almost 100% accurate for me, so has the voice dictation. It also tries to predict my next words, though that's not as good as Swiftkey.
The choice is yours to make, but I've been sold.
I love swype! I've used it for years! I'm coming around to SwiftKey with all of the new features they've been adding, but I love the swiping function and swype still has the edge for that particular feature in my opinion.
I can't live without SwiftKey. I've given others a chance in the past but always end up coming back.
Just leave this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482026 here
I am probably on the short list but I like the stock keyboard. I do not care for swype, and I have tried SwiftKey and I did not care for that. I like the numbers on the top of the main keyboard. Like many people I too have hit the Home key on the bottom, and then have to go back into where I was, but I still keep the stock keyboard.
I actually prefer smart keyboard pro. With the Droid X skin installed. It rocks and has 100's of options!

Fleksy
Fleksy is amazing. Best feature is the invisible typing and the fact that I don't have to be looking at the keyboard
I like Google's, its nice and simple, it just got updated with KitKat, sideload it from here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...0-from-android-4-4-with-space-aware-gestures/
Sywpe. Used the stock one for a week or so just for fun, but went back to Swype, my favorite.

Thanks. Just tried this keyboard and it's amazing. Just what I have been looking for.
has anyone noticed google's keyboard is slightly more spaced out then on say a nexus? a lot more blank area too
Swiftkey Flow. I like how you can make it smaller for one handed use.
I used SwiftKey as well but since moving to this device I personally love the LG keyboard... works great and had emoji built in

I would love to use the Google keyboard, but the ONE thing that I need is to be able to adjust the long press time to get the secondary character. Whenever I have a few numbers to type I long press for a short time to get the number, the default long press time is way too long to be convenient IMO.
This one reason is why I continue to use SwiftKey.
