I've tried stock froyo and stock gb and apex 2.0 rc4 and liberty 2.0 and my camera and video camera don't work. Video camera just freezes and camera just opens and immediately closes. The camera is working on apex 2.0 rc4 but just the camera. I have no clue why its happening. I've done factory resets multiple times too. Can anyone help me.

Camera Not Working
I have the first Droid X that came out and the camera never worked that great. I recommend downloading the Camera Mod from Xperia play. It works great for me and its free. I believe the developer is Sebastian Goscik. It locks up every now and then but not on every usage like the regular camera does.

Just what I needed. I actually only need the camera and camcorder and GPS. I just wanna use this phone to record video and take pics. I duct taped my razr to the front of my mtn bike for video taking but i don't wanna break it so i wanna use my dx now. This is the video from my razr and now I plan to use my x instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgpK...DvjVQa1PpcFOihnJ-GwEJZRS-8c9opYGZewCyRMkJdPA=

You definitely need to SBF.
SBFing and flashing any up-to-date rom should fix your problems.
Try MIUI, Vortex, or CyanogenMod 7.

Since you seem to be carrying this camera problem with you no matter what you do I wonder about your flash process a little heres what I do maybe overkill but works for me. In CWM I first do a factory reset, clear cache partition, under advanced wipe dalvik, under mounts and storage I format data, system and cache then flash chosen rom and gapps some also recommend wipe cache and dalvik after flash try the link I provided above for your rom and there are some bug fixes for the camera that you can flash as well. Like I said this could be overkill but it provides a good clean surface for your new system and limits the chances of fc's or conflicts. Note: after formatting system do not accidently reboot until you have flashed the new one because you will have no system on your phone and will have to sbf!!!
Always pull your battery and do a factory restore after the first boot of a newly sbfed phone. Good luck

Very interesting your card was preventing write capabilities of your camera to your card causing it to force close makes sense.

Does updatimg the system mean updating the kernal? Iv tried some research n I dont understand the benift, aLso, to update the kernal do u just install the zip under bootlaoder?
Have you messed with the DCIM folder on your SD card? Such as opened it and accidenctly sorted by date or size? I did that once and my cam wouldn't save a pic...let a lone even open the app. So I hooked my phone to computer and ascended the date from old to newest. meaning the newest pic was at the bottom of the folder. unhooked and rebooted phone and all was fine... just my two...
Hi everyone I need help, I am not a noon to flashing etc. However my camera and camcorder have suddenly stopped working, everytime I open either one it just freezes at a backscreen. Have you concluded that the fix was leaving your phone off over night? I have the same issue and have tried a few different rom's none of which have fixed it. I was at the point of returning the phone to be repaired.
I guess I'm really asking, did you do anything else? Remove some software, try a specific rom?
It happened to my camera...but that might be due to the fact that the plastic cover in front of the lens has broken orf and the actual camera unit has taken quite a beating! Works now, I went for a run and when I came back it was perfect
Maybe the running jolted it back into position? Try the same thing xD
Could be that you need to go back to stock and make it like it came from the factory. I wonder if overclocking can damage the camera unit?
I just full wiped and went back on the stock rom, turned my phone off and woke up in the morning and the camera was working switched back to other roms and it was working on all of them.. Hopefullly this will work

if you have changed rom and the problem persists chances are it's hardware related. I have seen a dhd with similar problems, aswell as wifi problems and it was due to overheating. If you took out the battery it would work for a few hours but then it would do the same

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? I've flashed my phone plenty of times and this is the first time this has happened...it's frustrating
I've posted on this months ago and I guess no one else found a soultion....atleast not in this thread...but from what i've been hearing from other people with the mt49 it could be a problem since the shipment of the phone. I was told from someone else with the same phone that they had the same issue and it turned out that his phone just had a defective camera =/. But now I have a Sensation 4g. I just wanted to put that info out there. If you're still using the MT4G and have warranty on it I suggest you just send it back to get fixed. Thats what I did and it came back working perfectly. Yes it was time consuming but cheaper then buying a new phone at the time. I still have my MT and use it when im working long hours and my sensation dies
So yesterday I accidentally dropped my phone in milk. I picked got my phone out of it almost immediately, and dried it off. I didn't really think much of it, because everything was still working properly. Today, I tried to use my camera, but when I hit the camera button, the camera app FC'd. I reopened it and I got an error saying "Can't connect to camera". I thought maybe something happened in the ROM, so I restored a backup from about 2 weeks ago, and I got the same message.
Currently, I've got the phone in rice, just in case. Is it possible that the milk is what is causing this? If so, is there any chance that I can fix the camera without sending it in? (I don't have insurance)
The only thing that's keeping me from thinking that the milk is what's causing this, is the fact that everything else is working normally on the phone. I've called people, texted, games, everything is working fine, but the camera.
I'm running Zips most recent build, and my backup was IceColdSandwich. In a few hours when I take my phone out, I'll try a GB rom, but for now, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Yea, MOST of the time, but NOT always, you can go into the phones settings, then into Applications, select the 'All' tab, and find the Camera on the list. Clear the cache, also clear data...that usually works. If not, maybe fix permissions? I always try those methods. But I don't care for ICS so I don't know if its the same as 3.5.....but try that.

Ya it definitely sounds like you nuked a critical component of the camera. Definitely lucky it didn't fry any of the other parts. If you've tried doing a factory reset and completely wiping your disks, don't think there's anything else you can do other than sending it in or attempting to fix it yourself which would require quite a bit of skill and probably some soldering expertise.
I'm using the same rom as you and the same thing happened to me at one point. I managed to fix it though by clearing camera cache, disabling and re-enabling it, and then clearing the dalvik cache and fixing permissions just for kicks. One or all of those things fixed it for me. Try that maybe?

Alright. I'll try it haha. I've been given new hope because the flashlight is working now, so I'm hoping the camera might start working again.
One question though, what do you mean by disabling it and re-enabling it?
When you go to clear the app cache you'll see a button next to the force stop option that says disable. From my understanding its basically like turning off the drivers for the camera. When you re-enable it (same button btw) you reactivate the drivers and it will communicate with the camera again hopefully.
If I'm wrong about any of that someone can correct me. But it still worked to fix my problem anyways

Alright, I'll try to find that. The website that I'm ordering the camera from apparently sends step by step instructions.
I guess that's one thing I enjoy about iPhones. They come apart and can be repaired very easily haha
Hope?
Okay, so I randomly tried opening the camera again today, and to my surprise, the app didn't force close or give me the message saying it couldn't connect. Nothing was appearing though, so I didn't think much of it. Then I remembered in Zips build you had to turn force preview on, so I did. Nothing happened, but I tried to take a picture, and the screen turned green with a weird little brownish area in the middle.
I'll upload a picture of it later if anyone wants and thinks maybe they can help me figure it out a little more.
The fact that it's working all of the sudden makes me think it might just randomly go back to normal. However, it might not.
But the fact that the camera is actually turning on now, that means that if anythings broken, its the camera itself, right? Not the hardware around it?
Hmm, upload a picture. My camera started taking those glitchy looking photos before it died on me. If you hadn't mentioned the green and brown detail I would have forgotten.
I'm not saying I can give any more suggestions than I already did but if you're getting the same problem I had then maybe you can categorize this back in the realm of software issues. Better than a hardware failure at least...

So, the MyTouch 4G has shown several camera issues; from a black screen to FCing when opening the app. It seemed to be like an update issue to the newest GB but even stock phones that hadn't been updated were also having issues. If anyone has anymore info on this subject please reply here or PM me. I am very interested in this issue as I have a coworker witht the same problem. It has also been shown to reoccur after people think they have "fixed" it with a factory reset or such.
Hello one and all. I'm sure plenty of you have used Rongsang's cm7 and maybe even his cm9. All of the work done here is done by him. I am simply applying gradual fixes. And organizing it.
