i am quite ready with the rom. only thing is i have this problem.

I think I know what the problem is, you need to have mkbootimg... Here it is, put it in /bin and then rerun the repack script

I hope there's nothing wrong with it... to repacked the files, I put all the files from your both zip files in one folder, then run repack-bootimg.pl script over boot.img-kernel as argument, is this correct?
yes man thanks. i will give you credits in the rom section.

I guess yes, the script, if I'm not wrong, only formats partitions and copies the ROM files to the appropriate locations and sets permissions... try using it, or post the ROM here and I'm sure someone can work it out if it doesn't work...
Cheers

i will release it in a couple of minutes. so when the script is not working, someone other can fix it
have i also to replace the updater-binary?
I don't think that's needed, the binary I assume is the same for different ROMs, only the script changes... but I would to be sure good luck!

I'm sorry to have to open another thread just for this, but I was waiting for zephyr1988 to update his files for aurora 4.1a. As he didn't do it yet, here it is
I had posted these in the other thread, but the files are now outdated and there was some confusion regarding the kernel inside the zip. These files, fix this, because I updated the kernel and services.jar for Aurora 4.1a.
Please, to understand what this does, read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710233
Notes:
- This is only for those with Aurora 4.1 + 4.1a update. For other versions, there will be auto-reboots, especially with the gallery, so, if don't have the latest aurora version, don't install this.
To install, flash both zips in recovery. Boot takes a little longer, but believe it, it's worth it

Sorry if this question was already answered.
What are the changes in the boot.img?
dzo already added support to run init.d scripts already in kernel of the versions 4.1+, correct?
Why you need to add it to your zip?
Another question, what does the OOM_Priority_Charger_Aurora_4.1a.zip?
Couldn't flash OOM_Priority_Charger_Aurora_4.1a.zip through recovery, says installation aborted..

It's the same one that's in update 4.1a, I kept it because there was a boot.img in the original script, I don't know if removing it would lead to the script not working...

It's working here, I tried it again just now... what CWM are you using? You can also just extract the services.jar that's inside the zip, and copy it to /system/framework, replace the default and set permissions like the default and reboot.

If I already have the 4.1 or 4.1a installed I already have the boot.img in my phone and It already have the support for init.d. So I think you do not need to add it to your zip.
That is creating problems only.
This is just a comment to improve your work and correct me if I'm wrong. I'll appreciate.

It doesn't create any problem at all, because I didn't modify the 4.1a kernel in any way, it's the same that it's in dzo's 4.1aupdate zip.
On the other hand, removing it could cause problems with the updater script in this flashable zip, that's why I kept it in my flashable zip. You are not forced to install this zip if you don't want, but I can guarantee the boot.img is the same that's in dzo update, there's nothing bad coming from flashing it.

Hello fjsferreira,
Thanks for updating the zip, I was away for a week with no access to a PC.
I have updated the original thread with 4.1a OOM priority charger and a init.d zip that does not mess with the boot.img now that dzo has included it in his ROM, so it should be compatible with newer versions.
I ve read the threads but still dont know what is OOM priority charger or any charger and init.d . Can someone explain it to m?

These are scripts that run at boot time to change memory management so that you always have a good amount of memory available. The package also contains some scripts to fine tune screen sensitivity, sdcard and CPU performance, those require editing the script files to uncomment some lines. Read the instructions on the other thread to fine out how to use this.

Boot.img is not kernel.. its usually said like that.. but its a file containing kernel+ramdisk.. so you can extract boot.img using a perl script file or by other methods like kitchens, etc... zImage is actually kernel which can't be opened after compilation afaik..

Hello Moto
I've just downloaded Verizon Jelly Bean 4.1.1 by "Firmware Team".
Just to play with it a little, extract apks and test them on Galaxy SII Skyrocket.
The thing is i'm having a hard time opening system.img.
Now i've tried LinuxReader, Unyaffs and ext2explore/read but none of these can open it, they all say that it's an unrecognized image.
Do you guys know how to properly open a stock moto System.img?

Google for a tool called simg2img (I used the python script that appears in get first few results, there should be other versions as well). That will unpack the image into a plain ext4 image that you can mount with any Linux pc (I recommend using a virtual machine if you have windows or mac).
Happy hacking!

aslomagic, did you try this with the firmware lingowistico is talking about? I also tried before to unpack system.img from this package, and system.img.ext4 from ICS package, and another ICS soft for XT897, and all of them give "Bad magic" error in simg2img. All of those softs are published by the same "Firmware Team" - maybe that's the case? I also tried dsixda kitchen (which also uses simg2img, but anyway...) and it also didn't work. Might be also some custom Motorola's approach to system.img....
Could you possibly help? Thanks.

Well, I know for a fact that those images are packed ext4, but I haven't tried specifically with that one.
Now that you mention, I think I remember signed images (like those ones) have some additional header, maybe that needs to be removed with an hex editor, or with dd of you like
If I get a chance, I'll try and report back...

Ok, I tried, and yes, it complains it cannot find the magic (again, I'm using the python script). I modified the script to look for the magic value in the first 50Mb of the file, and if it finds it, it starts unpacking from there. Python scripts are very easy to play with
It seems to work for me, but I don't have a linux vm handy to see if it mounts correctly (I'm currently on a mac). micx_pl, can you give it a try and let me know?
I had to zip the file even though it's very small because the forum won't let me upload a .py file... who knows, just unzip it.

You're welcome to try ... my guess is that it could be made to work if the image was an official, originally signed image that was unpacked by the script above or equivalent, but if you want to modify it, re-pack it and re-attach the signature, most likely the signature won't match the content. But I may be wrong, so if somebody is willing to try, best of luck to you
If your goal is just to create a packed image, but not necessarily signed (needs bootloader unlock), then I'd say it's definitely possible, search around here.

i'm sure you're right about the signature not working on a modified image; it was just wishful thinking. the idea of course would be to inject superuser.apk and su, which wouldn't be necessary on a bootloader unlocked device.
for bootloader unlocked devices though, the ability to repack a modified image does give you another way to build custom roms. here's the code to unpack and repack images with simg2img.py and make_ext4fs:
Code:
mkdir system
./simg2img.py system.img.ext4 system.raw
sudo mount -t ext4 -o loop system.raw system/
#make changes, then:
wc -c system.raw #lists size in bytes of system.raw
sudo make_ext4fs -s -l 1234567890 -a system system.img system/ #where 1234567890 is output from wc -c
sudo umount system
rm -rf system
i've used this proecess with samsung system images, should work for moto images now too (bootloader unlocked, of course)
Yep, it's a good cheat sheet reference
Besides, on razr m and hd at least, you can also use this with safestrap without unlocking the bootloader.

Yes, that's what I mean, more or less. You don't need safestrap to just mount it (use the terminal and "mount"), but you can use it to boot from it and try it.
I did this to try the Telstra image that pjcons dumped, which is pre-rooted and not signed (there it's no official signed image to date), and with a few tricks it worked without me having to unlock the bootloader.

Hello XDA guyz, I am here looking for a system.tar file required to build custom ROMS.
Download the apk below and follow instructions and please give me that .tar file..
Instructions :
1. Getting system folder
(NOTE - YOU MUST BE ROOTED FOR THIS MEDHOD)
This is universal method and can be done easily using terminal emulator.
For this simply download Terminal Emulator from Android Market.
we need freshly flashed device here. OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE LOT OF JUNK FILES.
Open it and type:
su
tar -c system/* >> sdcard/system.tar
This will copy all your /system folder to your SDcard with name System.tar
This will take some time to finish so be patient.
After it's done you should have a tar file in your /sdcard named system.tar
now please submit it to me.. Thanks a lot in advance

Why do you need that? Files should be next to the .imgs when build finishes

I thought it was useful if I have just image files. But that's not so important because after 4 hours syncing sources my internet disconnected so I'm a bit angry now. So all over again...

i suspect the proprietary binaries are culprit here.try comparing the kernel size of android and B2G. this may give idea.
or else try what all binaries are pulled in B2G and are they same as Android ?
i didn't faced any issues in Nexus 4. code sync + build + flash in single attempt.
