[Q] Droid Pro CM9 Help - Droid Pro General

I am a total noob when it comes to phones. I am tech savvy, so i will understand what you tell me to do lol. I bought a droid pro off ebay that will be arriving soon and I was planning on installing this rom
droidforums(dot)net/forum/droid-pro-roms/198354-cm9-ics-droid-pro.html
I have no idea how I would do this though. If someone could tell me what to do it would be greatly appreciated. I also would like to know if this rom works well (especiall battery wise, and of course besides the camera), and if not what other roms to consider.

Droid x compared to other phones "In relations to hacking and modding"

Im just curious if anyone can give me any insite on how you like modding the dx? I'm from t-mobile "my touch slide" and I love modding and stuff. I've done light research and it seems there is not much offered for this phone. Could anyone explain that to me for a reason? Anyone give me any insite about this phone?
I just ordered a new plan with verizon and I can always send the phone back but it looks soooo sweet with all of the features but I'm more a guy that likes to change his phone. thanks for any help
Look around that is what this forum is for. Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=691, that is all custom stuff for the phone. You will so much if you just start looking and reading. Many of the questions you have will have already been answered. I have only have my phone a few weeks and have already tried alot of stuff. Have fun.
Simple explanation - the Droid X (along with Droid 2, Pro, and 2 Global) have a locked bootloader. Because of this, we can't install custom kernals. Therefore we are stuck using Motorola's Blur kernal. Hopefully the bootloader will be cracked soon, then we can see ROMs such as Cyanogen Mod come to be.
But just because we don't have a cracked bootloader doesn't mean we can't have fun. We're still rooted, and we can install roms, we can overclock (although not as good as if we had custom kernels), dozens of themes, etc.
rooted vs unlock bootloader
Since the question is already set.
Can someone explain if I'm right or wrong?
I think that someone had unlocked the "bootloader"
but with the new Motorola official update froyo 2.2.1
I believe it is locked again the Bootloader.
So maybe I totally misunderstand it but changing the Kernel only make some kind of performance improvement (sometimes this improvements are only notice for the expert people, not to regular people who don't get his phone to the extreme of performance).
So if it is actually "rooted" the DroidX, it means that I can only change themes and put&take off some apps and that is, or what else?
I guess time ago I used the sentence "Flash a ROM" when I actually replace/change the system file or kernel, and use the word Theme/Mod when only change some UI and apps, so to "Rooted" is not as flashing a ROM?
I'm correct or something more deep is missing in my idea??
Sorry but everybody start being a noob (in Android) before get the knowledge.
Thanks in advance Sa6r0s0 :thumbright:

Buying a modified HTC Desire HD

Hi all,
I am a new when it comes to HTC smart phones, but im trying to get one and im switching from an iphone to a modified HTC Desire HD and I have some questions.
The phone im buying is modified and it has Sense 3.0 (3D) and it has some kind of software that allows overclocking it up to 1.8 mhz. Physically is in good conditions and it comes with 8GB of sd card.
I am conceded if the modifications made affect the phone performance and hardware and I want to know if i can restore to its original software or something better. And please if you could also give me any advice as what to check when i buy in that phone to make sure its everything OK.
I would really appreciate every comment and help you can give me.
Thank you.
Best
You'll have a choice of many different software types (roms) to run and you'll have to try different ones to see what you prefer. Returning it to a stock rom is really easy, just follow the instructions in the development thread. Hardware wise it's similar to the iphone 4 but you have way more freedom in software and customizations.
I hope this helps and good luck.

Dude dont worry by the looks of it the phone was in good hands coz it was rooted and had custom ROm in it .
Also as said earlier you will have lots of choice in ROMs, functions etc and you always have the option of going back to stock.
PS- everybody comes to XDA to get anything but Stock.
Just my 2 cents.
Your lucky to get a rooted dhd for sale most of the dhd you buy are stock updated and are hard to root.

About to buy a flashed X5 - can I trust this ROM?

Hi guys
I'm about to buy a flashed X5 for about 150€.
I have to say that im a complete noob (like the registration video told me ) in all these things and the x5 would be my first Android Phone ever, but nvertheless Im really excited about all this modding and flashing and whatever you people do with the phones. I just want to make sure the bought phone wont die within one week because of some mistakes the seller made while having fun eventually flashing it wrong.
Its said to be flashed with the MUI 2.3.7 and overclocked to 1,2GHz (is that secure for the processor?)
Also the description says it has "7 Launcher" installed - this actually doesnt tell me a single thing, could someone kindly explain what it is and what it does?
Thats all the information I got about the current state of the phone. Would you say that its a well-done combination, or is there some potential of the whole thing being nothing but a mess?
Many thanks to you!

That's a second hand phone? In Portugal, a new one costs 149€ :S
Well the seller says the phone has not been used at all, he just flashed it and put everything back
Anyways - could anyone help me out - should I buy the phone or does it all sounds too messed up already, what do you think
I would just check the price and spec of new phones in the same price bracket. This is an older phone now and I would not be surprised if you could pick it up for a similar price new with some looking.
That said, as long as it is all working, it should be ok. Price is similar to what I just paid for mine on a new years special. Launcher 7 will be gone when he wipes the phone data to sell it to you so you can choose to install it later if you want the windows phone 7 look.
I would just ask if it is still 2.6.32 kernel based (froyo rom) or if it has been upgraded to a 2.6.35 kernel base (official gingerbread). Either is fine, but it will just help you when it comes to installing roms later.
150€ is a normal price for a second handed phone here in Slovenia aswell. I might suggest, if you can get Samsung Galaxy S for that price, do it. I had Ideos X5 for 7 months, tried all ROMs I could find, but when I got my hands on Galaxy S, well...I switched to Galaxy S. The only major thing between them is that Ideos X5 has LED emitter. The battery seems to last longer on Galaxy S with stock ROM or custom in comparison with Ideos X5 stock and custom ROMs. Galaxy S has AMOLED display, which has a bit less DPI (it is 2mm longer, wider), but way better contrast with pictures/videos. In general it is smoother.
To answer your question, if the phone appears not to be damaged to you physically, you have nothing to worry about.

I'm new to Android (from the more user friendly iPhone garden) and have just gotten a Lenovo A3300-T tabletvia China as well.
After spending hours Googling and trying to make it useful I'm pretty much at a loss and ready to give up, but before I do, has anyone managed to either get Google Play to work on this model tablet or replace the firmware with something useful? (ie., that does have Googleplay included).
Cheers,

If anyone ever figures this out I'd love to hear back. Pretty much given up on Android for now but using this POS as a basic book reader until I get an iPhone 6 plus from work.
Suprised at how low quality the screen is though, makes my ancient iPod Touch look positively modern :crying:

Kyocer Hydro Life Android Development?

Please forgive me if I am in the wrong place. I am trying to figure out where I should post my questions. First off is does anyone know if Kit Kat will be coming to Metro PCS Hydro life any time soon. I have heard that Kyocera has already released an update to Metro. I had a kernel update not too long ago.
So is the the place to ask for android development on the Kyocera Hydro Life? If not, where? Also if there is no interest in developing for a $50-$30 water resistant and impact resistant phone with a quad core and 1.5 gb ram and a qHD screen and an 8gb rom space and expandable 32gb sd card and I have no clue as to why??? I understand this is no Nexus 6 but it is a cool budget phone and the stock software is rather poor. It works but really I would love just a stock kit kat or lolipop on this phone. A custom kernel and rom could really make this thing fly for the cost. I think as a dev it is really an engineering challenge to make a stock device with some strengths and limitations really show its potential. SO please some dev somewhere try to help unlock the bootloader and give us the freedom to really use our phone!
My second question as a total newb to android development is with all the tutorials and reading it is a lot of information so if I was to try and attempt to unlock the bootloader and develop a recovery in a very easy to understand way I would love some help. know there are guides but I have serious add issues and to try and sift through I will simply get lost. I have had so much help from the XDA community and reaped so many benefits I figure it is my time to try to give back but it would be really helpful for me to get a clue on where to begin and go from there! You can pm me or post here if that is o.k. and maybe others who may be interested could try too. At first I think a custom recovery and unlocking the bootloader would be as far as I would like to go so I do not get to ahead of myself.
So I thank you to anyone who can either help me learn what I need to get the bootloader unlocked and write a custom recovery or ideally a experienced Dev who could take up the cause. I am grateful for any help on this!! Thanks!
Robert
Also a Hydro Life Enthusiast!
Hello Robbbzilla,
Thank you for posting that question, I also have a Kyocera Hydro Life, which over not so much time went down in value and now is discontinued on the network I used (metropcs). Which in and of itself, baffles me because it is probably the Best budget friendly phone I have ever had. I enjoy this phone so much that instead of upgrading to the next best thing, I have bought 3 of these off of people on Craigslist instead. Well worth it in my book. Any how, I am on my 4th one now and it's not because they always break or freeze up, or become sluggish or for any other phone problem, its because this particular phone has been stolen 3 times from me, and lost once!
On this particular phone (which I am using now) I decided I'd try the whole root idea which worked fantastic, however, I am still looking for a custom ROM and Kernel.
So my question to you is, Did you ever figure this out? Or did Anyone help you out with finding one?
I know this post was from a little while ago but would REALLY Appreciate ANY insight you or anyone else may have.
Again, thank you for such a clear, and well articulated question!
Keona
