battery life

Anybody heard anything yet about what the battery life is supposed to be like with this phone? I know when I came from the TP to the hero my increase in battery life was like night and day. I am wondering since this has a fast processor and more memory if the battery life will be less than the hero. It just seems to be a waste to have a phone with these kind of features only to be crippled by low battery life. I hope it isn't.

It is more than likely be less than the hero, it has the same size battery mah wise as the hero but the voltage req will probally be slightly higher, so that will mean larger physical size. As far as run time, 4g sucks more juice than 3G, snapdragon at full speed 1ghz sucks more down than the 528 MHz in the hero and the bigger physical screen will also need more power than the smaller hero screen, they both use LCD as apposed to amoled which is amazingly good on your battery. They could and probaly should have went with amoled in my opinion.
I can only speculate but the stock 1500mah battery will probally see an 3600 mah extended battery from seidio about 3-4 months after release, about double the physical size of stock battery and extended back protruding 2-3 mm from the back of the current thickness. The evo is a rather thin phone comparatively so that shouldn't effect it. They usually run around 60-70 usd.
I will definitely be getting one if what I believe is correct, but the only potential problem will be the kickstand, I'm currious as how hay are going to overcome that obstacle. My guess is you will have to sacrifice it like some other phones like the palm pre extended battery that made you get rid of the touchstone functionality. They are good at molding compatible plastic moldings, and great at the batteries themselves, but not so good at engineering anything else into it.

i am going to have to agree with the post above...
same battery cap as the Hero, but with everything bigger and needing more power to function...guessing there will be a lot of people that will be complaining about the battery life (including me!).
I think HTC needs to reconsider this before they release this phone to the market. I am sure they can put 1800-2000mah battery in there.
since we are comparing HERO and EVO... and that we know they will have the same kind of screen...
The Hero's screen is very tough and scratch resistant. I have seen and tested the durability of the screen and I love it!!!
Will the EVO's screen have they same awesome tough screen??

yes it should, the hd2 has the same screen, and it's basically a hardware clone of that phone, very nice and tough. HTC has done very wise in going with the tempered glass, costs more, but definitely worth the added cost.
I heard the moto droid has an even tougher screen with their "gorilla glass" technology. I haven't seen one first hand so I can't compare, but after 2 face first drops from waist height with no screen protector, the hero's screen is as nice as the day I got it. I'm hopeing I can say the same for the evo once I get it, but I'm fairly confident it will.

hd2 extended battery actually gave it the kick stand. I imagine the an evo extended battery will have one too.
I wonder if it will stand up on its own in the portrait orientation like my Mogul does (it has sort of a foot). Doesn't look like it from the pictures.

No, but it does look like the kickstand might work with EVO in portrait or landscape orientation. We won't know for sure until we can get our hands on it.

Hero Battery life is crap.
On my Hero, I get about 3/4 a day's worth of battery... but that might because I am running rooted 2.1 on the device that is not optimized for my phone, but as long as the phone can get me through one full day on the device, I will be fine.

Lol, people act amazed every time they see this done to a glass screen, and it makes me wonder just what they're being taught in science class these days. Glass is harder than the metal your keys are made from so of course it won't scratch. Same thing with razor blades and pretty much any other metal they throw it at in videos like these. What they don't show you is that sand will still tear your screen a new arsehole. Unless you live somewhere absolutely devoid of sand, this phone is still going to need a protector or a slip case.

I've never had problems with my screen getting scratched without a protector. Back on topic though I'm a little worried about the evo's battery life. I get great life on my hero but with all the added goodies I know the evo will get far less. Fortunately I'm rarely without a power source so unless it's totally horrible I'll deal with it.

Evo without 4G?
I live in an area without WiMax (for now), so do you guys think that if I don't have the WiMax radio on it will get at least a days worth of battery?

I read the Touch Pro 2 Battery will work on the EVO anyone know if that's true? I don't remember if numbers of it but I am wanting to say 1400 and i have an extra one that's less..

The EVO uses a RHOD160 1500mAH battery... The battery commonly found in the TP2, I believe.

Not having WiMax or having WiMax will have no significant impact on battery life at all. I have no idea what your phone use habits are so it would be hard to say if you'd get a day out of it or not.

Technically speaking, if you were to turn the WiMAX antennas off, you would increase battery life. The Evo offers the ability to connect to 4G and if not, then 3G... OR... Just 3G, thus turning the WiMAX antennas off.
Will this increase it significantly? Can't really tell you much yet.

If you turned your 4G radio off your 3G radio would take over and I don't see a significant improvement there, now if you turned all data radios off you would definitely see an improvement but at what cost? You'd basically be carrying around a phone with no data capabilities.

I am not sure about the battery. I thought the touch pro 2 battery was the one that works in the hero. It would be surprising to find the hero battery working in the EVO although I would not complain.

you can specify what type of connection in the stock image of sprint android devices. You can tell it 1x or evdo or auto, I would venture to guess they will have a similar option to disable 4g in areas it's not available in.

I think that turning the 4g radio off in areas with no 4g rather then leave it on would help battery life, thus it wouldn't be looking for a 4g network all the time

My one that came with the phone says RHOD160 1500 MAH . The generic one says 1400 mAh 3.7 V. And under the ID number it says HTC with numbers and letters. So will 1400 not work? Reason I am asking is one extra battery is all I will really need. I have this cradle that charges the extra battery now while my Touch Pro 2 is in the cradle/ But my friend is getting the same phone switching from a BB Tour. I said oh I don't need 2 extra batteries I'll give you one of mine which of course was going to be the generic one. But then I thought about buying back my phone to Sprint when I get the EVO which is 82 bucks. Almost as much as selling it for a 100.. So I don't know what to do yet..

This is the battery life I got on Sprint's new Evo 2600mah extended battery with medium use. This was taken with 5% left on the battery.

Have you found a cover for the Evo with the extended back.

Seido makes a case but its really pricey.

No I have not found a case.
The battery is not something I would want to use on a daily basis but for traveling or if your going to be without a charger for an extended period of time it will be nice.

I always keep a backup battery in my wallet, heh. I bought the 1800mAh battery from htcexpress that is said to last longer than the original, and you don't need another back.

I have the 3500 battery (for about 6 weeks now) and I don't notice the bigger back. It actually makes the phone feel better in my hand. The extra battery life is great. I don't use any kind of case or screen protector anymore. The phoneis doing just fine.

Same here, I was skeptical at first, but I like being able to actually use my phone. The extra bulk isn't bad.

what's the highest mAh i can get with stock back cover.

i believe 2200, but not sure... i know there is an 1800....

1800 for sure any more and the battery manufacturer might start stretching the truth about the actual mah especially if its a china battery.

I have an 1800mah chinese battery... I'd say its about 1% better than the factory evo battery. Blah

Stop complaining about a bigger back if u havent actually felt it IN HAND. Bigger battery back feels GREAT and makes the phone more manly. As adam carolla would say "in 50 years we'll all be chicks"! (no to mention the black on white on black looks sooooo sweet on my white evo!

I switched back to my standard battery today and it was at 50% about a 1/3 through the day.

Yeah, the Sprint extended battery is great. It's a Li-Polymer.

Li-Polymer would be horrible with a device that requires much charging...

Time to replace my stock evo battery ?

Its been a year since i got this phone and the poor battery has had nothing but heavy usage the the entire time. Im wondering how after 500+ charges a evi battery should be holding up and what the life span of it is till its time to replace after heavy usage and on quite a few ocvasions more than one full charge per day.. Old age is a ***** haha. Thanks guys

Unless you notice it's not holding a charge like it used to, heating up a lot, or swelling up, I'd say it's still perfectly fine.

First 75% or so just drops fast. 75% through 25% so so and the last 25% holds strong like the whole 100% used to. I wasnt sure if it because miks rom and heavier usage from 3.0 though?

U got the point there. U made up my mind. I hear u cant get one thats 2000mah that fits under the stock hood? I havent found one online, any suggestions?

Yea I wouldn't mind finding that battery too. I really don't want to make my phone thicker with the big extended battery.
We're comin from a pure power source.

Usually batteries typically should last a year (or longer) but when I used to work at tmo I found that they start to lose full charge at around 8 months; im only speaking for HTC batteries based on my exp w/ their devices. If you can get another one id say go for it.

just got my extended battery with the oversized back. So far its great. I keep the extra smaller one in the case. Pretty sure I can go all day now and do pretty much whatever I want. The back case actually fit tighter than the original

If you don't feel like waiting, there are 4 easy steps to verify battery capacity:
1. Acquire hammer.
2. Smash phone.
3. Read battery specs.
4. Weep.

i was looking forward to that phone, until i read that. i have 2000mah batteries for my evo, and they don't last. i have 4 of them and i use 2 a day. i was so excited that the evo lte looked awesome and had all the features i wanted, until i read that. i'll be looking elsewhere now. it really ****ing sucks that they would do this. if anything, i'll wait until somebody takes it apart to see if its soldered in and possible to swap out... i'll just throw a case over the back and keep it unscrewed if its an easy swap, but otherwise i'll pass... i'm not around chargers enough to justify not being able to swap a battery. might as well get an iphone, it'll at least last longer.

The One X has a smaller battery then the EVO 4g LTE. That should give you an idea of how well the battery life is going to be.

Yeah from what I read on their battery stats thread they're getting like 8-9 hours on average with what I think was a 1600mah.

Most phones have button combinations that will take care of this issue. if I remember Right there is also a combination for the evo as well. No battery pull necessary.

Press and hold volume up, down, and power at he same time. It takes 5 or 6 seconds. You can even get to hboot if you press volume down after it shuts off the screen.

Sealed Battery
I just canceled my upgrade. Swapping out the battery is important to me. And what happens after a year when the battery just doesn't hold a charge very well. I'm disappointed with HTC and we have 4 EVOs in our house. I'll have to see what else is available now. Samsung???

It may only be the need to open the phone, and remove a flex cable, peal the battery out, it may or may not be soldered in, or in a clip. Its very simple, and with ICS and the S4 in the EVO LTE, I am not worried at all, but that's because I also fix phones all day lately.

What LTE are you talking about? Like the 4G we were supposed to get? LOL

You never know!! Gotta think positive man! And actually, I had Wimax on launch day in STL. But LTE will take longer for me this time around. I only used 4g a few times at the start(20mb/s in class), but never really even attempted to use it after the first few months as I didn't get great 4g at my place, though I probably haven't tried in about a year...

honestly, if they just put a 4000mAh in it, I wouldn't mind if it weren't replaceable. And I seriously doubt with the kind of perfomance/specs its gonna have, anyone would really mind the extra thickness either. Not to mention heft (cough, durability).

It's not how big the tank K is but how much less is sippped from the tank
Nexus 5 so battery is 75% if G2
But battery life on nexus 5 is far less than 75 percentage of G2 albeit having a smaller screen

it looks promising but i would take this article with a grain of salt. I want to see a article or a video with alot of apps and features turned on this reviewed. i believe that would be a real battery review

Still, LG hasn't outed official talk, standby, browsing and video playback times yet, so we can only guesstimate the battery life of the G3 to be pretty good, based on some tangential proof from improvised battery tests that are popping up.
First off, a prototype version of the phone has been put through its paces, and the phone lasted six and a half hours of video playback on a charge, as you can see from the screens on the right. That might seem average, but the test has been done at the screen's*maximumbrightness, which*LG officially pegs at 430 nits, instead of the usual 150 or 200 nits, so the result from standardized routines like our own battery test, are likely to be much higher.*
Also so the test was at basically 2× brightness of a normal screen. ... so at lower brightness it should do very well

Thanks to the removable battery I couldn't care less about battery life you can always take one or even two with you and go through half a week without ever needing to charge your phone good job LG :good:

Is it really nice to always have a secondary batt and most time having to turn off phone then replace. I quite don't like that and I don't see that very cute at all. Maybe it's how I feel but that for me just seems not right.

I would totally have taken a 3500mAh stuck battery like in G2(not impossible to remove after some years) instead of 3000mAh removable.

Of course they did, but they are catering to the people who are stuck in the old days when smartphones didnt last as long and batteries died much faster. Sure batteries degrade still, but if they hold longer between the charges and with more improvment it would be years between needing to change it. LG did the right thing with G2, but people arent smart enough to see it, so LG had to go back to the old ways to win the heart of the stuck.
